About listing

Why stay in an overpriced cookie-cutter hotel room in a so-called boutique hotel when you can live the life: 'la vie boheme'? Enjoy this one-of-a-kind 650-sq.ft. studio outfitted with all the modern conveniences, steps from the vibrant life of the East Village with its clubs, shops, bars, and restaurants, yet situated in a quiet building insulated from noise and bright lights. You will have easy access to everything in Manhattan (two bus lines stop at the corner and a subway station a few blocks away) and live in a real neighborhood with students, artists, and young families. Full kitchen, TV/DVD player, computer/printer with Internet access, towels, sheets provided. Booking process: The availability calendar shows only the dates which have been solidly booked or otherwise unavailable. We receive many requests for overlapping dates and have given up on the 'first-refusal' system, where we keep a list and give each person a chance to look over the offer separately. Instead, we have switched to a 'first come-first served' system whereby the first completed contract and payment received gets the apartment. If you are in a hurry, use the 'Book It Now' button--our calendar is up-to-the-minute in accuracy. Contract and payment details: The contract outlines our responsibilities to one another and the payment scheme. In general: You send a $300.00 (reservation/damage deposit) to secure your reservation (may need to be combined with other payments if your dates are close). At 60 days before your arrival, send 50% of the rental plus a $95.00 one-time cleaning charge. 14 days before your arrival, you will send the other 50%. The damage deposit is refundable within 5 days after you've checked out and left everything in good order. About us: This is more than just a line of business for us--hospitality is an integral part of who we are. The studio is in an owner-occupied building, so you're not dealing with a faceless management agency with music on hold. We aspire to offer you the kind of experience we would give to our own family and friends in New York, where you enjoy the comforts of your own home while in one of the world's greatest cities and will want to return again and again.

I usually travel to NYC 2-3 times a year and I have to say that this place is just amazing. Location is perfect. The block is quiet and there are great restaurants and shops just around the corner. And it's just walk away from LES and Soho. And the subway is very close as well. I stayed in this apartment for three weeks and I have no complaints. The owners are super nice and helpful. Everything in this apartment works perfectly. I had hard time leaving this apartment because I enjoyed it so much. I will definately rent from Thom again. I highly recomment this property! Thom, thank you so much making my stay so fantastic and easy. 30 August 2011 - 09:25:12

We had a wonderful time in NYC ... part due to great weather and fun activities, and part due to our place. It's super close to a large park by the river (with bike/running trail along the river, tennis courts, etc.) and easy to get to bus, subway, etc. We walked nearly every day to Union Square and bought fresh Farmer's Market food for picnic lunches. A bike store (with great rental bikes) is also nearby. The place itself has everything you'd want. The bathroom has a full supply of everything, from shampoo to soap. The kitchen, too, had a quite of bit of "leftover" goodies from prior renters (coffee, sugar and much more). Bed was super comfie, and it was very large for a loft/apartment. Thom, too, was extremely patient and a great host -- answering every question quickly and thoroughly via email prior to our stay. We were fortunate enough to meet him as well. The only down side was that there was no patio/porch (or so we thought). However, we worked around it ... we unlocked the "side" door, brought two chairs out there, and had our coffee in the morning and wine in the evening. A great benefit was watching the folks who live in the neighborhood walk by (many with dogs), and a number stopped to chat with us, too. One, in fact, mentioned the garden next door and that the neighbors get together socially and informally there (and you could probably get a key to the garden area from Thom and use it too). We'll definitely stay there again! 20 September 2011 - 15:04:25

Our stay made us feel so... cool! The studio is extremely clean, well equipped, and very spacious! It was great luxury, and a peace harbor for the both of us. Very well located in cool East Village, near restaurants, shopping and the subway (14th st. and 1st ave.) The owner is a superfriendly guy, who will help you with anything you desire. You can even listen to vinyl records! We want to go back right away!. 11 November 2011 - 21:33:55

My son and his fiance were coming East from SanFrancisco for business meetings and wanted to stay downtown, away from the hustle of midtown congestion. I found them this wonderful apartment on VRBO, which I have used when I visited him in CA. The photos and description of this very spacious loft were exactly what we saw upon arrival. It was perfect. The owner was extremely helpful in providing parking information, local restaurants, and mass transit information. The apartment provided them with everything they would need for the week, even umbrellas in case of rain! They will definitely return to this great find when they come to NY in the future. I would absolutely recommend this property to friends. 31 March 2012 - 17:31:56

We stayed in this great apt for 6 nights. Booking and check-in are seamless. Thom is increadibly responsive. The location is in a quiet neighborhood with mostly foot traffic. It is close to lots of bars and restaurants. We had no problem getting cabs on both cross streets. The bed is very comfortable and the apt has a large bathroom and full kitchen. There is also an iron, ironing board and large fan which is I really appreciated. I will definitely stay here again. 26 June 2012 - 02:51:28

We spent a week at this apartment and everything was just perfect! Great location, close to transportation and so many great places in the neighborhood. The apartment is spacious, clean and very well-equipped. We had one small issue with the cable TV and Thom, the owner, took care of it right away. The black-out curtains really help with reducing the noise and light and we slept great on the comfortable bed each night. So much better than staying in a tiny hotel room! I highly recommend this apartment and hope to return on our next trip. 24 September 2012 - 16:15:54

I have to say that the pictures really dont do this apartment justice, it's vast on the inside and decorated extremely tastefuly. NYC is a great town to explore but it was great to know that you would be going back to, or waking up in, such a nice home away from home. The location couldn't be better, within hopping distance of the bus lines and it's certainly withing walking distance of subway stops. But it's also very close to some of the best bars and restaurants in the city, and some of those are the best in the world. Thom was the perfect host, I've never stayed anywhere where the host has been so helpful. He was able to help with any questions or suggestions and obviously treats this as a labour of love rather than just a business. I'm certainly done with hotels and next time I return to NYC, Thom's apartment will be my very first choice. 23 January 2013 - 17:31:01

Lovely welcome, excellent location, totally recommended. I dig walking so the East Village was perfect for me, was able to walk everywhere, Central Park, Brooklyn, Times Square, Blue Note, Hotel Chantelle, many, many cocktail bars, pizza places, record (vinyl) shops in the East Village. 13 March 2013 - 17:38:25

My girlfriend and I stayed in this apartment during our 8 day vacation in NYC and I must say that we were floored by the cleanliness, general layout and all the amenities of this apt. The location is key here, the surrounding neighborhood (East Village) has so much to offer as far as nightlife, dining and cool/funky shops. Kudos to Thom, Luz and Ricardo for making this apt such a wonderful place to stay. We will be staying here again on our next visit and will be recommending it to all of our friends and family. Good work guys! 10 June 2013 - 23:09:25

This ground floor studio is exactly as advertised and more. So spacious and comfortable. A huge open room with high ceilings. We stayed here for the month of October and it was like a home away from home. Thom has thoughtfully provided everything a visitor could possible need, from a printer to a yoga mat. The galley kitchen is well stocked with a full sized refrigerator and dishwasher. Full sized bathroom with a good tub and shower. When you stay somewhere for more than a few days, its important to be able to put away your things. This place has tons of storage: a big closet, chest of drawers, bathroom cabinets etc. The neighborhood is terrific. The street itself is quiet but only a block away from all the restaurants, bars and clubs that make the E Village exciting. Weve walked to comedy shows, poetry slams, music venues and wonderful meals. Very close to a bus that takes you to the metro and gets you anywhere in the city fairly quickly. We havent had any problems but Thom has been very responsive to questions. In short, we loved it. My only (small) disappointment is the absence of windows. The entire front wall is glass but because its ground floor, the glass is frosted. Theres nowhere to look outside. Fortunately the studio is so huge, light and airy its not a problem. 31 October 2017 - 15:52:00

Our trip to New York City was a wonderful experience. The apartment was just as advertised and as displayed in pics. Close to the subway, shops, Times Square. We joined our 2 adult children for 4 nights and days. Initially we had had found on VRBO a bigger apartment however due to a flood we couldn't stay there. We were worried about being in one big room. In fact, it worked out better - like one big pyjama party - The pullout beds were comfortable and cozy. Staying in this neighbourhood apartment, was like being a NY resident. So fun! Thank you. 25 November 2014 - 04:32:06

My husband & I really enjoyed this place. It's clean, quiet, spacious and comfortable. We found everything we need in the tidy kitchen. It's located on the ground floor so getting our luggage in was no hassle at all. The landlord was super organized and gave us such helpful directions that made our week-long stay in NYC so much more enjoyable. 23 June 2015 - 02:26:59

This was our third time staying at this loft and it was perfect again. Spacious, well-equipped and in a great neighborhood. If you are looking for a great place outside of the touristy areas but still very easy to get around, then this is the place for you! 17 September 2015 - 14:52:31

This was our 1st stay at the property. We enjoyed how spacious the apartment was for the four of us staying together. The apartment was so clean and had everything we needed including a full kitchen, cable tv and wifi. It was also conveniently located in a quiet neighborhood that had street parking available for our vehicle. I definitely would recommend to friends. 27 September 2015 - 14:55:26

Our group of 4 females stayed at Thoms apartment for 6 nights and it is just as in the photos, very well kept and really spacious for a studio apartment. Bed was really comfortable, even the blow up mattress was. The subway is just a few blocks away or take the bus at the end of the street which transfers to a subway station on the same ticket. A couple of stops further on the bus and youre at Union Square. Easy to get around and in a quiet and safe neighborhood. Restaurants/cafes 2 blocks away, supermarket and grocery store at the end of the street. Must try Westerville caf for brunch. Thom and his brother were very prompt at answering any queries and the deposit was returned soon after we left. Highly recommended if you want to live like a New Yorker in Manhattan and not be amongst the hustle and bustle of Times Square but still close enough to be able to take the subway to attractions. 28 September 2015 - 22:49:41

perfect home base in east village/alphabet city. close to great restaurants like Bob White counter and gruppo, coffee shops with hidden bars (the roost, blind barber), and shops like westside market and ABC beer co. thomas is super responsive and accommodating and the loft is equipped with everything you need for a home away from home. we brought along our 16 month old and she had the time of her life. we'd definitely stay here again! 03 October 2015 - 18:36:12

My experience is on par with the rest of the glowing reviews. Communication for getting things set up was stellar. Thom is a very thorough and a nice person. I was a solo traveler and felt very safe here. The place is huge especially by hotel standards. The bathroom is big and spotless upon arrival. The little kitchen is perfect for making your own breakfast before heading out. The block is quiet compared to other properties I've stayed at in the East Village - there is not much retail and no restaurants which makes for a good nights sleep. I can't say enough positive things about the neighborhood. You have everything you need in a 3-4 block walk. Subway is close at 14th Street and 1st Ave. I would stay here again without reservation. Thank you, Thom! 28 April 2016 - 18:58:02

I have stayed in this location four times and will continue to return. It is a perfect spot when in NYC. This beautiful apt is always spotlessly clean. Thom is a thoughtful host and responsive as needed. This neighborhood is conveniently located with easy access to restaurants, bars, coffee bars, dry cleaners and the L Train. I like nearby Tompkins Square Park summer or winter. I am a happy repeat visitor! 05 November 2015 - 00:26:51
