About listing

In a secluded secret garden, this outstandingly elegant garden house has all you could desire for a London holiday. Free fibre-optic wifi 160 mbps. Washer-dryer. Furnished with fine Georgian antique furniture, it is a very unique and personal space. This small flat is completely private and self contained. It is however attached to a studio which my daughter and I use occasionally as an art studio. Check in is normally from 3.30 pm and check out by 11.00am. You can arrive, by arrangement, from midday to leave your bags or sit in the garden whilst the cleaner prepares the apartment. Close to the centre and transport links. A wonderful romantic location for a holiday. The bedroom is spacious enough to include a sofa, all overlooking the tranquillity of the garden and pond. The kitchen is filled with unusual details, and includes a dining area to seat five. The paved area by the pond has exclusive use, but the main grassed area is shared with the main house, although it is very rare for anyone to use it. The lower floor of the main house has it's own private patio area, screened by plants from your view. This flat shares the access through the garden door. The small flat is very luxurious, with a high quality king sized bed (US queen size, 5 foot wide), and charming antique furniture. We are only 4 or 5 minutes walk from the Caledonian Road tube on the Piccadilly line. This is by far the most convenient underground line for access to the major museums and galleries of London and a direct line to Heathrow Airport (one hour). Here's a little chart: 2 stops to Russell square: British Museum. 4 stops to Covent Garden: National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery, Somerset House (Courtauld Gallery), Sir John Soane Museum, Theatre area. 6 stops to Piccadilly Circus: Royal Academy. Shopping in Bond Street etc.. 7 stops to Green Park: Spencer House, Princess Diana's family's 18th c House (quite amazing, only open Sunday afternoons, so book in advance). The Ritz hotel for tea, and across Green Park to Buckingham Palace. 10 stops to South Kensington: V&A, Science, and Natural History Museum. Hyde park. However for Tate Modern, or Britain, you have to change lines. It takes about 2 minutes per stop. There's also a bus stop 200 metres from the flat. There are many local restaurants, and bars. The nearest is Shillibeers, about 200 metres away, and great for informal eating, drinking and dancing. Here is a quote from a review posted a few years ago when the property was last used as a holiday location: “A Country idyll in London - near perfect.” 'What a great place- I can't recommend enough! We could hardly bear to leave. We booked Hartham Road for a birthday weekend for my partner. We had wanted to take a cottage in the country but one of our friends had to be in London so we thought we would try and find a piece of the country in London. So what a bit of luck to find an an extraordinary artists studio converted, by a labour of love, into a cottage built in a C-Shape around a delightful Arcadian garden [complete with pond, folly and sculpture]. The house has a wonderful cosy back bedroom, clean and well appointed bathroom, an eat in kitchen [with great china] and a lovely window seat . It is also incredibly peaceful. Sat in the studio or garden you would have no clue you were five minutes from Caledonian Road Tube. It would be the ideal balm to a day seeing the sites in London G and T's on the terrace, cosy dinner in the kitchen and drift away in the bedroom. It is one of those places so good you only want to recommend to your really good friends - so shh- don't tell anyone unless they are really special.'

We had a month in Andy's lovely place while builders were in our flat. It was the perfect retreat. A lovely, green, quiet oasis in such a central part of London. Comfortable and well equipped. And Andy was the perfect host - easy going, thoughtful and there when you need him. I am already recommending the flat to friends and relatives who want somewhere really special to stay in London. 18 July 2016 - 09:47:00
  2. This is a wonderful oasis in the heart of London. A quiet street only minutes from the buzzing kings cross area. The garden is traditional English country garden with a twist, delightful stone seats, quiet, tranquil. The apartment is comfortable and extremely beautiful! Highly recommend! 17 July 2016 - 19:51:00

I stumbled on this amazing property by chance for my partners 60th birthday weekend and was not disappointed.Andy made the whole booking process easy and the directions couldn't have been simpler with very easy access to the Caledonian tube station.Everything was as described and the garden was romantic and peaceful. The property was clean and well maintained with very good WIFI! Andy was always at the end of the phone if we needed him and when we arrived he was there to greet us and offer us a cup of tea!We loved this place and will be returning, as there was so much of London we didn't manage to do and this is the perfect base for you to do it from.Thank you Andy and see you next year .Rowena Moore 08 November 2016 - 14:44:35

If you like art, antiques, and delightfully eclectic/bohemian style combined with modern appliances in the kitchen and a really comfy bed---this is the place. I stayed solo, but it would be great for two. The garden is magical, just perfect for quiet meditation. The short walk to the Tube is fine if you do not have too much luggage; and there are two markets open late with good selections of fresh food, beer and wine. 24 June 2015 - 17:55:40

We stayed for 6 nights in this lovely flat and loved it all. The flat has been done with such care and imagination and the garden is glorious. We were fortunate in that the weather was fantastic so we were able to eat outside, but there is plenty of room inside too. It is very well equipped and Andy his family were responsive and extremely helpful. The position is good amidst lovely leafy London streets, and easy for the tube, but its so nice we found we didn't want to go out much. 14 July 2015 - 10:32:32

The house is really beautiful and furnished in a really charmy way. It is 5 min far from caledonian underground station where you can find three small supermarkets open till 11pm. It is therefore a very convenient house too. Wi-fi is perfectly working with a very good and fast band. We had a great time in this house. 16 August 2015 - 09:26:33

One week in London for business and leisure, this beautiful and quiet garden apartment was the perfect place to come back and relax in. Convenient short term parking in the street and public transports close by. Very helpful and friendly owner with a great sense of creativity. 22 November 2015 - 14:53:18

Everything about this charming little flat worked out perfectly for me. The location is ideal being so close to the Caledonian Street Underground station - which is just three or four stops from Central London and truly an easy walk at pretty much any time of day or night. The entrance through the garden gate is just fun! Upon entering you feel like you've stepped into a secret garden and I was there in March! Once everything is in bloom, it will be even more delightful. The flat was immaculate and is filled with fascinating bits of art and all the creature comforts. The bed truly is very comfortable, the Wi-fi and TV function very well, the bathroom is spacious and the kitchen very efficient. Every detail has been attended to down to the fresh flowers and a welcoming bottle of wine. Frankly, it's the sort of place I'd like to keep to myself! I will return very soon. Andrew the owner was very helpful and attentive to all my inquiries and made sure he or his daughter was accessible for anything that may have come up during my stay. Enjoy!! 17 March 2016 - 04:06:00

Lovely garden apt. Comfortable and welcoming after a day of sightseeing and enjoying all the city has to offer. Convenient to the Picadilly line. 22 June 2016 - 18:31:00

I felt like I lived in London, with access to all that it has to offer, but a peaceful distance from the hubbub of the center of the city. At the same time, it was unbelievably easy to get everywhere I wanted to go because of easy access to the Piccadilly line and several bus lines. With the French doors to the garden, I felt as if I were living in the garden, which is my ideal vacation! The cottage has everything one could want, including a spacious kitchen and a soothing bathtub. And it is decorated in a way that is aesthetically pleasing and homey without too much of the feeling of living in someone else's house. The property was VERY well-maintained and exceptionally clean. My interactions with the owner were delightful and helpful. I have already recommended this property to several friends and rebooked for another visit in a few months time. 13 May 2016 - 13:53:00

We spent a week at this lovely apartment that is full of antiques and original artwork. The garden is beautiful, full of flowers, trellised roses, a fountain, and interesting architectural artifacts. We found returning to the property so refreshing after a day full of sightseeing! We had dinner and drinks at the nearby pub one night. The neighborhood is quiet and mostly residential but there were lots more dining options within one or two tube stops in either direction. The tube station is only a 5 minute walk away, on the Piccadilly line, so very convenient to get to most of London's sites. We really enjoyed our stay here! 12 June 2017 - 19:20:00

We had a fantastic week in London staying in this flat. It was very easy to get to the Underground on the Piccadilly line. The flat was very comfortable, great kitchen, full bathroom and there were flowers and a cake there to welcome us. Communication with Mr. Williams was easy and he was very quick to respond to any request. I would highly recommend this Home Away. 18 October 2017 - 14:53:00

Hi my wife and I stayed at the garden flat for a week in early June and really enjoyed our stay. It was so nice to relax and look at the garden and watch the birds and look at the beautiful flowers and fountain. It was a short walk to the closest tube station and everything we wanted to see in London was convenient to get to. We had a minor problem while there that Andrews lovely daughter Camilla rectified and she bought us a lovely cake just because she felt bad. It was such a nice gesture. We would highly recommend this property to anyone wanting to see London while on vacation. 02 July 2016 - 15:10:18

I would highly recommend this property to anyone that would like to have a comfortable, safe and cozy place to stay. The flat had every amenity one would need and the owner is a delight to work with. He was prompt with his replies if I had any questions and as a single traveller for most of my stay I couldn't have asked for anything more. Access to the Tube was a very short walk and this particular Tube line was so central I really did not require any other lines to get me to central sights and museums. I would highly recommend this flat for any season of the year and hope to return again. it was perfect! 22 November 2016 - 22:33:38

First off I have to say that Andy was a wonderful host, very accommodating and responsive. The cottage was so cozy, clean and fully stocked. The location is very quiet and safe, not a lot of restaurants etc in the immediate area but only a five minute walk to the tube with King's Cross one stop away that has every restaurant, bar and shop you can imagine. As a single woman traveling alone I'd much prefer the safe and quiet neighborhood to stay in. LOVED my stay here and would highly recommend it to a single person or couple. 25 February 2017 - 15:39:00

Although this was advertised as an apartment suitable for two people we were assisted by Andy who provided a small bed for our granddaughter as we were looking after her for the school holidays. We discovered that the shower did not have a very good water pressure, and the paths could be slippery in wet weather, but the studio apartment had all we needed for cooking and washing for the extended period of our stay. 15 September 2017 - 15:36:00
