About listing

This is the home for the couple that wants to feel like they are a million miles away in total privacy yet close to everything. Please know that this home can be rented with the 6 bedroom/6 bath 'Blackthorne' (Home Away 338956. VRBO 323070) for a total of 7 bedroom 7 baths. The cabin enjoys absolute privacy as it is located at the very end of a not-a-through street on 2 private acres that feel like 1000 acres as you are surrounded by National Park. The home is located in the easy-to-get-to flat area of Point Reyes (not way back up some long, winding road) yet elevated in the treetops, making it very sunny and bright with panoramic views of the National Park. Though you feel like you are a million miles away, you are conveniently only 1 mile from downtown Point Reyes with it’s fine dining and shops, 2 miles from the village of Inverness, 12 minutes from world class ocean beaches and one-hour from San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge and the Napa/Sonoma wine country. The cabin is in as-new condition with a well-thought out design and furnishings by Robin Barnato of San Anselmo’s Studio Home Designs. The home has a large, wrap around deck with panoramic, treetop views, a gas fireplace, flat screen TV that tilts toward the living room or bedroom, high speed wifi, phone with unlimited calling in the US and Canada, gas Bar BQ and an ipod player. Guests are also provided with tennis racquets and tennis balls and the key to a private tennis court 2 miles away. If having a true getaway-from-it-all experience that is not far away is what you are looking for, please contact me as I’d be delighted to have you.

I surprised my wife with a stay here for our anniversary and I was not disappointed with her reaction when we pulled up to this adorable cabin in the woods. While we enjoyed the tourist sights around this area (which were all so close!), we always looked forward to returning here to relax and enjoy the peaceful seclusion. We are already looking forward to booking another stay here! Thanks for the nice speakers (we had music playing all weekend), the decks of playing cards, and all the other cozy comforts! :) 08 August 2017 - 01:14:00

This is a truly lovely property. It's extremely quiet and feels remote--it's at the end of a road, on the edge of the National Seashore. It's also charmingly cozy--the bedroom & living room, surrounded by windows, up in the trees, are exquisite. The large deck is also a great place to relax or enjoy a meal. The cabin is sparely decorated, which feels just right, but it's got everything you might need. We cooked dinners 5 of our 6 nights, and felt the kitchen was fully outfitted. Remember to bring staples like oil & vinegar & coffee, though, since none is supplied. The gas fireplace took the chill out of some cold mornings and evenings very efficiently. The location is also perfect for exploring the National Seashore. The Visitor Center is just a couple miles away, and you're just a few miles from trailheads of various kinds. The town of Point Reyes Station is a delight, too--Cowgirl Creamery has great cheeses, and the Palace Market is a surprisingly good place to shop, particularly for local seafood and meats. I can't recommend the cabin highly enough. We loved it, and hope to return! 09 August 2017 - 22:00:00

If you're looking for quiet, charm and the feeling of being one with nature, this is the place for you. The cottage has everything you need for a back to nature experience with all the amenities of a luxury stay. There is plenty to do in the area and yet you're far enough away from everything to be able to feel like you can escape back to the "treehouse" for that's what it felt like. I highly recommend this place. The owners are quick to respond to requests and it shows that they really take the comfort of their guests seriously. I hope we get a chance to come back to this lovely getaway cottage again. 14 August 2017 - 14:33:00

What a lovely place to stay at Point Reyes! Secluded and set among the redwoods, this pristine little cottage is bright and comfy. Very quiet and private! The windows look out to the towering redwoods; at night these giants silhouetted against the starry night sky are so beautiful and peaceful you wish you didn't need sleep! A wonderful place to stay if you are in the area; this cottage delivers exactly what it advertises! 30 September 2017 - 14:21:00

We just spent 4 days in this tiny but perfect cabin in the treetops. The cabin is built into the hillside and you feel as if you are floating in the redwoods. Although cozy inside the expansive deck doubles the living area. The cabin is also in a great location minutes to Point Reyes National Seashore We feel kind of lucky to be the first guests to stay in this beautifully restored cabin and hope to be back soon !!!! 12 September 2014 - 14:15:02

I cannot say enough about this rental but I'll start with the fact that I cannot wait to go back! First of all, the location is gorgeous - down a quiet road and the cottage is nestled up in the trees. Second, it is beautifully decorated and cozy with a beautiful fireplace. Finally, it is truly spotless - cleanest place I have ever stayed. When Robert said that the house would be spotless upon our arrival he was not kidding. The location is perfect for heading to the coast or to the two small towns (Pt Reyes and Inverness) and while it's hidden away it is also just down the road from Perry's Deli which was convenient and also had great food! I would highly recommend this unbelievable sanctuary where you are surrounded by trees and the sounds of nature for the most relaxing days and nights you will experience! 21 March 2015 - 20:35:01

This was a great little aerie. A perfect retreat in a hushed spot, but just off the road from the bay and eats. The cottage itself was straight out of a contemporary furnishings catalog, the bed comfy, and the open windows at night let in soothing air. Just what we wanted for our anniversary. 15 August 2015 - 16:15:58

We felt ourselves very lucky to stay in this adorable cottage for our anniversary-it is indeed a very charming place! We were impressed and enjoyed our stay in the enchanting area of Inverness and the cottage itself very much! Everything about itfrom the sense of design down to the details. We loved the sea glass bottle collection on the mantel played against the turquoise tile of the hearth and the orange accents and the repeated motif of birds in the accessories.and the front door-a modern fairy-tale cottage!! All very cool, really nice job!! All in allcute place, nice kitchen, comfy bed, great deck all with nice customer service in a wonderful, magical place! Wish we could have stayed longer! Take care & keep up the great work! 26 October 2015 - 01:24:46

Perfect small cabin as a getaway from SF. Amazed and comforted by every aspect of it. Every detail thoughtful, every surface gleaming. A wonderfully sturdy triumph of engineering, perched on a hill but still tucked into a prehistoric-feeling wilderness. Proximity to Olema, Tomales, Point Reyes Visitor's Center--a huge plus. Electric fireplace was awesome--a powerful heater in cool evenings/mornings, and nice atmosphere too. Meanwhile, nothing more peaceful than watching the morning sun break over the trees, and waiting for it to bathe the porch. We'd certainly come back--we wish we were still there! 15 November 2015 - 01:41:57

My wife and I spent the weekend here to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. The owner was extremely responsive and very easy to work with. The cabin has all the modern amenities you can ask for, given how "rural" it feels to stay there. 1. Lighting. The place had all the lights we needed that allowed for me to do my night time reading. There is a huge lighting fixture above the bed AND a lamp by the bed, giving me ample illumination. Anyone who complains about any lack of lighting is probably someone who comes from living in the Sun. 2. Contact Information. Got it from the owner emailing me directly and from the piece of paper left on the coffee table. 3. Internet. Strong and fast enough to allow video streaming from Netflix without any buffering issues. 4. Kitchen. Enough pots and pans for the maximum 2 people allowed to stay at the cabin. We weren't cooking anything fancy, but what was available was plenty sufficient. 5. Towels. Enough for the 2 of us. Instructions were clear about extra being available. We brought extra beach towels to use at the beach per the lovely communication sent to me by the owner. 6. Driveway. There's a slight grade, but not like we were climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro or anything. 7. Hair Dryer. Didn't use it, but saw there was one. 7. One hanger and only a few wall hooks to hang clothing. No closet, however there's a dresser where you can store your cabin/beach/outdoorsy wardrobe in. Didn't need to hang anything, so what was provided was more than sufficient. If we ran out of clothes, we could've washed them using the washer and dryer. 19 April 2016 - 04:26:53

We spent two days for our anniversary. It was exactly as described. It was so relaxing eating breakfast on the patio. I found the place outstanding and would rent it again. A plus was the wildflowers at Pt. Reyes, especially the trail to the tip of Tomales Bay 28 April 2016 - 22:16:41

My husband and I took a couple nights away to celebrate our anniversary. I could tell a lot of thought went into this little cabin and both the inside and outside are very well kept up and maintained. We appreciate the simplicity and think this is a perfect place for a weekend getaway. We were also able to use the tennis rackets a couple times during our stay--an appreciated addition. 12 June 2016 - 15:24:48

We stayed here several nights. Highly recommended. This cabin is a gem, originally built maybe a century ago. There are beautiful details from the original: generous metal-framed windows; hinges on the front door worthy of a celtic chapel; metal window latches that look handmade; the warm hardwood floor (redwood?); turquoise tile at the base of the fireplace. Whoever sited this cabin had a good eye. The morning sun comes right in the windows. Everything has been brought up to date. There is a generous deck on two sides overlooking the forest, held up by a modern foundation. Here's what we heard: water running in the creek; one garbage truck; two airplanes. That's it. It was that peaceful (and I'm an audio guy). The kitchen has modern appliances. Heat is from the gas fireplace insert. We didn't watch TV but it works as described. Electricity is generous, no fuses below. Internet speed is perfectly adequate. The tennis gear was as described. The washer + dryer are out back but easily accessible. We had 1 bar Verizon service but the wireless was very strong for messaging. The owners were prompt in responding to our requests. We will be back! 19 January 2017 - 00:06:14

We very much enjoyed our retreat in this cabin. It was clean, had everything we needed including speakers and some games. It is very quiet and peaceful back in its spot on the hill. I would recommend it! 28 October 2017 - 21:28:00

I loved everything about this place. It is a beautiful cabin with scenic views out to the trees, and plenty of light. It was hard to leave. 04 December 2017 - 17:11:00

My husband and I loved our stay, it was hard to leave. It is so great to be able to find such a treasure close to home. The cabin is so delightful - the decorations and furnishings, the expansive deck, the setting! The property feels so secluded as though you are right in the forest, so private. We had everything we needed in the kitchen, and found a wonderful bakery in Point Reyes Station. We spent a couple days hiking, and it was great to return to this cozy cabin at the end of each hike! Robert made all communication so easy, and quickly mailed a forgotten item back to me. Thank you! 05 September 2016 - 04:54:48

You could put a sign in the kitchen about the hidden lightswitch, that took us a while. And all the glass on top of the mantel is kind of unnecessary. Not much to criticize though, the deck was great and everything worked 07 January 2018 - 23:52:00

Beautiful cabin that seems so far but so close to civilization as well. The only minor quirks we had was the bed needs updating. The bed is god awful squeaky from any tiny movement but if that was replaced the location would be perfect. It was a small quaint and well furnished cabin with all you would need for a weekend getaway. If youre cooking tho Id suggest bringing all ingredients with you as kitchen is only stocked with cookware :) 08 January 2018 - 01:15:00
