About listing

Elegant first floor apartment behind the Concertgebouw and just south of the Vondelpark. Sleeps two but on request 1 additional guests can stay in the attic at a special extra rate. Contact us for more information as this room is not always available. This apartment is located on the principal floor of a townhouse of 1900 in the residential district known as the Museumkwartier (the Museumquarter). The hall and staircase are typical of a house of this period, with marble floors and a staircase leading, via a small mezzanine, to the front door of the apartment, which has its own entrance hall opening into the main room and the bedroom. The main room, furnished with antiques, is a combination of sitting room, dining room and kitchen, has high ceilings, a polished parquet floor, and wide, white-curtained windows facing south with views into the small square at the southern end of Cornelis Schuytstraat, a fashionable shopping street currently much in favour. The bedroom, with the same polished floor, high ceiling and wide, white-curtained windows, overlooks the private gardens and the white-painted balconies at the backs of the houses opposite. The queensize bed is very comfortable. The tree-lined street is a quiet one, carrying little traffic, and yet because of the proximity of the Cornelis Schuytstraat there is plenty of life to be watched from the windows. The city’s main park, the Vondelpark, is a five minute walk away and can be part of a walking route into the city centre. As the Concertgebouw, Rijksmuseum, Stedelijk Museum and van Gogh museum are just a few minutes walk away. The neighbourhood has everything one might need or desire for making oneself comfortably ‘at home’. In addition to the fashion shops, there’s a good general grocer, a greengrocer, two bakeries, the butcher van Dam on the corner - so well known that people come here from all over the city - two dry-cleaners, a chemist, a bookshop, and cafes. Within a very few minutes’ walk are several restaurants, an Italian delicatessen, a laundry, and a bicycle hire shop. Every Saturday, on the next little square in the street there’s a produce market of singular quality, run by a consortium of local inhabitants. Public transport connections are very good. There is a direct bus to Schiphol airport, or if coming from the airport by train it is one stop to the Amsterdam Zuid station. Two nearby trams, number 2 and 16 go to the Centraal Station. The number 16 via the Concertgebouw, the Albert Cuyp street market, and the Dam Square (with the Royal Palace and Amsterdam’s best department store, de Bijenkorf), and the number 2 via the Van Gogh museum and Rijksmuseum, the theatre and cinema area in and near the Leidseplein, the Canalbelt, the Spui, and the Amsterdam Museum, the museum on Amsterdam's history. General notes: We have made you a hand-out with all possible house instructions and lovely tips to ensure you will enjoy your stay in Amsterdam. There is a hair-drier in the bathroom. And there is a laundry nearby should you require washing or clothes to be pressed. The kitchen is equipped for cooking, and has a Nespresso machine, kettle, toaster, microwave and juicer. There are so many restaurants and cafes in the immediate neighbourhood that it is not necessary to list them. Walk out of the house in any direction and you’ll find places to eat within a very few hundred metres. This is a non-smoking house. The apartment is not to be used by people using drugs, having parties or pets, and is unsuitable for children under the age of 6. Small babies are welcome if you bring your own carry cot.

This is a gem of place, located on a lovely block in the museum district. The owner and Barbara, the building manager, have created a kind of magical space for a short or even extended stay. We loved it and look forward to returning when we can. 27 July 2017 - 21:13:00

My friend and I loved staying in this beautiful apartment. You can trust the pictures posted as it looked exactly as presented, both the apartment and the neighborhood. The location was wonderful and we felt quite safe walking around the area in any direction. There were several great restaurants and cafes to choose from, and several grocers to buy food to bring in. The tram is a block-and-a-half away, runs regularly, and can take you anywhere in Amsterdam. On our arrival by taxi, manager Barbara met us at the door and spent a good bit of time with us to explain everything in the apartment and talk about Amsterdam in general. She even checked in with us a couple of times to make sure we were doing okay. The kitchen is very well equipped and the apartment had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. Even a sweet little garden patio in the back where we enjoyed our evening coffee and pastry! We stayed nine nights and I wish it could have been much longer! 04 September 2017 - 14:40:00

The apt was amazingly well located , less than 2 blocks from the tram, near many wonderful shops, restaurants and places to pick up food and close to several museums and the Concertboeuw. The apt was cozy, quiet and charming, with a unique design. We loved it and would not hesitate to return and to recommend it to friends.Barbara, the manager was there to welcome and orient us and available for all our questions. 23 September 2017 - 19:40:00

16 February 2017 - 12:47:00

My husband and I rented the apartment for a long weekend, the place is equipped with everything, toiletries, hair dryer, towels, all necessary kitchen items, netpresso machine, great for a couple, really comfy bed, super cool round tiled shower/wet room. Located in a really nice upscale neighborhood with tons of restaurants and shops, small supermarket right in the corner for all essentials you might need. Walking distance to museums, canal tours, "tourist attractions" if you would prefer. Barbara who manages the apartment was great, she gave us a thorough briefing of the area and where to go. Apartment has tons of Amsterdam maps and tour books to go through or borrow for your visit. Also a large bookcase full of variety of books just in case you hit a rainy day or just would like a break from touring. TV has all EU stations, CNN, BBC etc. Wifi works great. Slight drawback but don't let it discourage you, you will need to go up a set of stairs to 1st floor, bottom floor is 0. Thanks for a great stay, would rent again! 29 September 2017 - 08:10:00

So what do you want when you rent a place in a foreign land? #1 - Clean - CHECK. Very clean. #2 Friendly and Informative Welcome - CHECK - Barbara welcomed us early in the day as the apartment was open and our flight got in early. #3. Well stocked. CHECK. Just enough coffee, tea to get started. Well stocked kitchen for cooking. #4 - Comfortable -- CHECK - The bed was incredible and the place so quiet that we slept deeply and sometimes too long. But quiet. #5 - nice place with interesting things to look at. CHECK. Lovely antique furniture but not so fancy that you felt you couldn't touch anything. Interesting books and photos. #5 - Light!!! The windows were large and the morning greeted us with wonderful sunlight as we enjoyed coffee. #6 - Location CHECK. Well if you don't care about being on a canal. Tram stop steps away. More than enough good restaurants. Peaceful neighborhood. Vondelpark an easy walk as were museums -- but we mostly took our favorite Tram 2 to save our legs for touristy things. Truly could not have been better. Thank you Barbara and Menno 07 September 2017 - 23:54:00

The flat is exactly as described and the photos are accurate. The location was absolutely wonderful. My sister and I felt safe, and comfy! Most of all, the property manger (Barbara) was so fantastic...she was responsive when we had questions prior to arrival, she was thorough in detailing everything when we arrived, and best of all, she helped us tremendously when we had an emergency. The entire time it felt like we were dealing with a friend. We highly recommend this rental and cannot thank Barbara enough! 02 November 2017 - 12:32:00

The old south location of this property is lovely! Close to to the major museums and a beautiful area to explore for shopping & dining. It's quite and has easy accessibility to public transportation. You can easily picture yourself living here. The apartment is perfect for two people. The bed is extremely comfy and the kitchen has just what you need for a light bite. We loved our stay here. 17 April 2015 - 21:25:32

We greatly enjoyed our stay in the apartment which was in a very convenient and stylish neighborhood of Amsterdam. The apartment had all the necessary accoutrements - coffee machine, full kitchen, TV, good wifi, comfortable bed, nice linens and storage space. From the apartment it was east to reach the museums, the center of the city and our family who lived near the Museum Plein. It worked well for two people. The property manager showed us the details of the apartment and was ready to respond if any questions or problems arose . We hope to return to Amsterdam in the near future and would love to stay in this beautiful apartment again. 21 May 2015 - 19:19:35

We loved this charming apartment! It is every bit as pretty as the photos! The neighborhood was delightful, tranquil and walking distance to Museumplein and the Concertgebouw, and for that matter, the Old Town area if the weather is good. Trams also very convenient. Having nice restaurants nearby was another plus. We had a great dinner at a nearby restaurant, recommended by the owner, our last night and were grateful to walk "home" a block after a busy day. The owner left a very helpful detailed list of services available in the immediate neighborhood. One caveat: it is on the second floor and the steps are steep and tiny. It would not be appropriate for anyone with mobility issues or lots of big luggage. We wish we could have stayed longer! 24 May 2015 - 13:10:55

The apartment is conveniently located within walking distance to museums and concerts. A relatively quiet neighborhood with good restaurants and markets made our visit to Amsterdam a pleasure. The apartment itself is full of light and well appointed with a very comfortable bed and adjustable thermostat. 24 May 2015 - 12:27:32

This was such a lovely place in a traditional home modernized for comfort. Both the manager and owner were friendly and helpful, took care of everything and gave good suggestions of what to see and do in Amsterdam. In a posh neighborhood near Vondelpark. 20 July 2015 - 11:25:20

Very nice apartment with everything you could want. Even though there was construction across the street, the apartment was very quiet. There are several transportation options nearby and many shops and restaurants. True to Dutch style houses, there are steep steps up to the apartment and moving heavy luggage up and down can be difficult so if possible it may be better to take several smaller bags instead of one large one. 07 August 2015 - 03:36:29

We have just had a lovely stay for this Apartment in Amsterdam. The owner and his agent have thought of everything to make a stay perfect. The apartment is located on a lovely, tree lined street with, albiet expensive, but lovely shope near by. We found two small grocery stores that had very good prepared meals that we brought back to eat after a day of walking about. The location was perfect for the museum hops and close enough to the off on boat. The apartment was beautifully decorated and appointed. There was nothing more that we needed. As a VRBO owner, atuned to a perfect stay for our guests, I am apt to be critical. We highly recommend this apartment. 18 September 2015 - 07:35:27

We spent three nights in this delightful apartment. Tastefully decorated, it has everything you need for comfort - we wished we could stay longer. The neighborhood is wonderful..only a few minutes walk to the Concertgeboew and the Rijksmuseum; there are some very good restaurants nearby and groceries are available within steps. To-go food was available from a great greengrocer/deli across the street. Delightful. 02 November 2015 - 16:03:41

The apartment was an excellent place to stay- very comfortable, very clean and furnished to a high standard. The location is excellent too, close to shops, restaurants and museums, as well as tram stops for easy access to the rest of the city. The area is extremely nice, interesting and peaceful, with high quality food shops yards from the front door, and a Saturday food market just down the street. Barbara was very helpful and friendly. 06 November 2017 - 22:46:00

Exactly as described, we found this accommodation to be perfectly located for everyone's needs. Quiet for sleeping yet close enough to walk to trams and head off to Amsterdam's adventures. Both the agent and the owner were friendly, accommodating and welcoming to us as we enjoyed their hospitality for a week. 22 November 2017 - 15:55:00

This was our first visit to Amsterdam soon after Christmas. Unfortunately we had to cut it short due to some business back at home. However our short stay was memorable. The apartment is beautiful and is very conveniently located in the Museum quarters. Barbara had a bottle of champagne and a pastry to greet us. The kitchen is well stocked with tea, snacks, and items for cooking. A short walk to the tram would take us anywhere in the City. Restaurants, museums, and shops are all close by. What we most appreciated was our host. She was easily reachable by cell phone and made sure we were comfortable. When we had to suddenly cut short our trip, she was very accommodating and met us early to check out. I hope we visit Amsterdam again, and stay here once more. I highly recommend staying at this apartment. 28 January 2018 - 21:11:00

Absolutely amazing apartment! 5+ stars for charm, location, cleanliness, and amenities! Barbara was so kind and helpful prior to my arrival & she completely exceeded my expectations when I arrived in Amsterdam. It was my first time in the Netherlands and I was traveling alone so I was a bit apprehensive. Barbara went out of her way to make sure I felt comfortable as we went over all the details of this lovely apartment. I really appreciated the extremely detailed guest binder we went through with inside info on the neighborhood, local eateries, bars, must see museums etc... There was also many books on the shelves about Amsterdam which I found useful. I wouldn't have changed a thing about my selection and cannot wait to spend more time in the Netherlands! Thank you Barbara and her lovely friends for helping me bring in the New Year with style, lots of laughs and a whole lot of fireworks! :) 29 January 2018 - 23:08:00
