This apartment was a real gem to find and it was conveniently placed to enable us to explore the local area and experience Chinese culture. It enabled us to use public transport to explore Beijing. There were numerous restaurants close by and cheap grocery stores. The apartment was ideal for 4 people, and had all the necessary mod cons and the decor was very pleasant and we were never distracted by noise. Communication with Betty was excellent and Mr Gui and his wife were most helpful. Given the chance to return to Beijing we will definately stay here again. Perfect location within walking distance to many iconic tourist locations (Tiananmen, Forbidden City, Beihai Park, Wangfujing street). The apartment had all the necessary amenities including air conditioning for the summer time. I liked the courtyard for the apartment complex. There were some minor issues with the water heater, but it worked most of the time. 23 September 2016 - 16:02:00

We had a great stay at the apartment. The location was perfect. We were able to walk to the Forbidden City. It was close to the subway which was only a few stops to Lama Temple and the Chinese Acrobatics show. There were plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. The apartment was plenty big for our family of 6. There were some cots provided for the kids. We really appreciated the washing machine and dryer!!! Not many places have a clothes dryer. There were lots of DVDs and books for us and the kids. We were provided with maps and information about the rental and area prior to arrival that was very helpful. The only thing I would change would be having a code lock for the door. Instead we met up with someone to provide the key. Took a little time waiting outside the hutong. Wasn't too bad but we have rented a number of vacation properties that had a door code or lock box. It makes it easier and more flexible for check in. Would recommend to friends or family. 10 November 2016 - 03:20:00

Great apartment in a very convent part of the city. The location is in an unusually tranquil part of the city, and is an ideal base to explore Beijing. The apartment itself is very clean, comfortable and spacious. The owner and the person who managers the apartment in China are very helpful and accomodating. I would highly recommend this apartment. 17 January 2017 - 02:44:00

Great location just a few minutes from a train station. Very easy to get to all the major sights to see. Lots of shops, restaurants nearby. In a very quiet location despite just a few minutes from a major street. I think it would be very difficult to find on your own without very detailed instructions. We had Kevin pick us up from the airport and also had him take us around for a few days. I would highly recommend using his services. Reasonable priced and very knowledgeable about everywhere we went to see. Wear good shoes! We covered a lot of ground in two days. I also recommend greatwallhiking.com if you want to see the wild wall, which was fantastic! We stayed six nights and had a great time. I would definitely stay here again. We took the trains back to the airport and in two hours we were sitting at the gate. Piece of cake. 13 December 2016 - 05:42:00

This apartment was in an ideal location as a base camp to explore Beijing as a tourist. Many sights were in walking distance, and there was easy access to two main subway lines. The apartment itself is in a quiet courtyard with a bustling local neighborhood immediately outside; thereby giving a wonderful taste of city life, but the ability to relax away from the noise and heat. The place was very spacious (6 rooms!) and comfortable. If I came on extended business in Beijing, I would want to stay here as well since there is also a well supplied kitchen (which we didn't use much since we wanted to explore Beijing's culinary treats). One thing to consider if this place is right for you--The apartment is located in a older unique complex with many local families. We tried to have a light footprint so that places like this can continued to be offered and available without neighborhood resistance. 20 June 2017 - 18:54:00

My daughter and I had the pleasure of spending 4 nights in Betty's apartment as we began our 12 day adventure in China. The location, off a quiet courtyard, provided a great base for our daily exploring. The first day we spent walking to Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, enjoying the local cuisine, and shopping. Kevin was our enthusiastic, very knowledgeable tour guide on day 2 and 3 as we hiked the Great Wall and visited more local attractions. I highly recommend using Kevin's services and Betty's communication before we arrived was very helpful. Great experience! 21 July 2017 - 23:53:00
  9. Betty's apartment was great. I was working and living in BJ for around 2 months, my company's offices were in Oriental Plaza, so this apartment was very convenient to the office, as well as to the subway station. It was only about an 8 minute walk door to door to work and the subway. I did not go to any of the major tourist attractions nearby (I have been before), but they all look to be an easy walk or short subway away. The apartment was beautifully remodeled, high attention to detail, and high quality materials. Everything worked very well in the apartment, especially the AC and wireless internet. It is very clean as well. The bed is also very comfortable. The description that Betty had used was accurate and the photos accurately reflect the rentals appearance and amenitites. In fact, Betty has added some accessories (including a lot of DVD's) to the apartment to make it feel more homey. The property was clean and very well maintained, as is the beautiful courtyard that the apartment is located in. Betty, someone who used to live in the US for a long time, was very easy to communicate with, and understands the needs and expectations, as well as standards of a foreigner who is not used to living in China. She was also able to address any issues that I had. Her property manager was also very nice and helpful, though only speaks Chinese, but he was able to use much simpler Chinese for me to understand. There is no gym in the area, so if you are planning on staying long term, the Regent Hotel, an 8 minute walk away, offers gym memberships. I would highly recommend this property to anyone planning on staying or working in the area. I only tried a few of the restaurants on the street that the apartment is on, they were good, and I didn't get sick. I highly recommend walking around the area and up and down the streets and around the hospital to get a feel of the history of the area. 10 August 2012 - 17:34:33

We stayed at this apartment for 7 nights in June 2013. The location is very historically significant as it is in a Western-style compound that used to be residential buildings for the old Peking Union Hospital. This is multi-million dollar real estate in China today in terms of location. There are still the old Western-style houses built around a central courtyard and this apartment is in a building behind the main courtyard complex, but still on the same grounds. Just steps from this central courtyard you enter into Beijing's famous alleys, which are teeming with activity. You are also just a few blocks from the huge Oriental Plaza shopping center, the Wangfujing shopping district, the old Beijing Hotel, and just a couple more blocks away is Tiananmen Square and the entrance to the Forbidden City. The location of this apartment is ideal for exploring Beijing. You can easily take the subway from the Dongdan station that will take you almost anywhere in the city. The apartment itself was spotlessly clean. Air conditioning worked great. The rooms are simple but elegant with high ceilings which give a sense of space. The bathroom is roomy with a larger-than-normal shower. There is TV with local channels, wifi, a nice, clean, usable kitchen, and a washer and dryer. After staying in Beijing hotels for many years, I only wish I had found out about this place sooner because it really is in the "heart" of the city. I would not hesitate to book this apartment again the next time I go to China. Five stars. 08 July 2013 - 19:02:12

Great place, central location, good communication with Betty by email before, during and after our stay, good service of mr. Gui during our stay. Recommended for families with (small or big) children (two bedrooms, quiet garden outside). You feel like a "Beijinger". Try Otto's restaurant, just turn right (50m) after passing the entrance gate. For a western breakfast we found a bakery on our way to the Oriental Plaza (500m). Subway (easy and cheap) within 10 minutes walking. Don't hesitate to book this apartment, you won't be disappointed. 18 August 2013 - 16:31:07

Our family of 4 spent two weeks at this apt. We appreciated the quiet atmosphere, convenient location and support from Betty, Miss Lu and Mr. Gui. Apt had everything we needed, coffee maker, micro, oven and A/C in every room! Many small places to eat nearby, grocery store, bakery and subway all within a few minute walk. We would stay here again! 06 July 2014 - 02:16:34

nine days in Beijing was made even more special because of this great home base! it is everything that is documented in the many positive reviews. we are 4 first-time visitors between 34-70 years and, without hesitation, would HIGHLY RECOMMEND and RETURN. here are other things, some seemingly incidental, that made the place great. (1) owner Betty answers emails in a timely manner with much information about food, shopping, weather. we started corresponding 8 months before our arrival. she is supportive and friendly as well as professional and efficient. (2) the electric outlets have adaptations for western plugs. there was no need for us to bring adapters. (3) the 3 main rooms (bedrooms, parlor) are very large. we left Beijing with 10 suitcases and never felt cramped. (4) the townhouse is in its own separate, secure courtyard. there is a sense of calm and quiet within this area despite it being centrally located in Beijing. (5) hot water is readily available for a shower at any time. the bathroom is the best lit one i have ever been in. (6) the separate washer and dryer were two of the most important items when choosing the place; we used them daily. if we didn't want to use the dryer, there is a large, indoor drying rack in the same room. (7) miss Lu came by every other day to change bedding and towels, sweep and tidy-up, remove recyclable containers. she greeted us when we arrived and was there when we left; both times were at night. (8) the wireless router never failed nor gave us any problems. (9) Betty's recommendations for a local guide and eating establishments were excellent! 15 November 2014 - 15:35:36

We were very happy with our spacious 2 bedroom apartment in Beijing! The location was amazing- walking distance to Tiananmen Square area, very close to 2 metro stops that can get you anywhere in the city, and a great little "alley" right outside our courtyard with delicious local food and grocery stores. The best part was being able to walk into a secluded, quiet, courtyard and instantly feel at home and relaxed after a busy day of sight-seeing in Beijing. Betty provided excellent information prior to our arrival and was so very helpful in communicating via email or phone. She included suggestions of restaurants, shopping, sights to see, etc. She also recommended , Kevin as a tour guide, and he was fun and extremely helpful. We stayed at the apartment for 6 days- I would definitely stay here again- it is so much better than a hotel. Check it out! 27 February 2015 - 05:22:53

We had a wonderful experience staying at Betty's apartment. The apartment was very quite and yet located in a busy neighborhood convenient to subways and restaurants. We did not do any cooking (although you could if you want to). We found the washer and dryer to be very useful and easy to use. The space was nice for us (two adults and two kids). We will definitely stay at this place again. 04 May 2015 - 03:23:58

Beijing is simply amazing - big, bustling, exciting, and beautiful. However, as travelers, you'll definitely need a respite from all the excitement and fun. Betty's apartment is just that. It is simply startling to step out of the heart of Beijing, down a small alley, into a courtyard that seems to be situated in the countryside! Then, the apartment itself is cozy, well-appointed, comfortable and peaceful. And, the location has to be best in Beijing, close to everything a traveler would want from the Forbidden City to shopping to both expensive and hole-in-the-wall restaurants. Most of all, Betty is a gracious and very responsive hostess, who will do everything to accommodate your needs. Cannot recommend it enough! 20 June 2015 - 23:55:38
  18. We couldn't have been more pleased with our hostess (Betty) and accommodation in Beijing. The location was perfect, being right in the heart of the city to access many attractions by foot or subway and yet able to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. It truly is an oasis tucked away in the city, peaceful and beautiful in a little courtyard garden just off a major downtown street. We are a family of 4 and found it to be a perfect fit for us. We highly recommend it!! Sylvia 08 October 2015 - 20:05:52

Excellent location. It's within walking distance of several "tourist" sites, restaurants, shopping and subway lines. Although located in the middle of everything, the apartment itself is located within a quiet, tranquil Hutong with a beautiful courtyard. Betty, the owner, was great to work with. She promptly responded to all questions and provides detailed information on the apt. She recommended and we hired Kevin as a tour guide for a couple of days. We enjoyed and appreciated the additional information and insight he provided. We also had him arrange a car and driver to pick us up and take us back to the airport. We got in late and left very early so we did not want to have to deal with a cab. I highly recommend this apt!! 13 November 2017 - 22:28:00

It was a joy to go "Home" each evening after climbing the great wall or visiting the forbidden city! Could not believe how big this place was with a kitchen, dining room, living room and two large bedrooms. Felt very safe and loved how close it was to shopping and dining! Big enough for 5 adults to be comfortable! You will love it! 10 January 2018 - 22:25:00
