The location is great. City Center is about 30 minutes walk and there is a taxi stand about 5 minutes away for longer trips. You've got to be able to handle 2 flights of steep steps to get to the apartment but once you are there everything is roomy and comfortable. Feargal and Stephanie made sure everything went smoothly for our arrival. We had a wonderful time and slept comfortably every night. Highly recommend you consider staying here. 29 August 2017 - 15:46:00

We spent a rainy but funfilled long weekend exploring Amsterdam and this apartment was the perfect base for our family. All of the amenities described were present. The apartment is large and spacious and smartly decorated. The stairs are steep but the kids enjoyed the thrill of a double length set of stairs and it was good training as many of the other sites we saw featured similarly steep stairs. There's a deli two blocks away so we could stock up on breakfast stuff and eat healthy stuff and do so when the kids awoke. The milk frother was a special treat. Check-in and check-out was easy and friendly (even though we were late to arrive due to the Queen's Day crowds slowing our journey). The tram is nearby and we ended up just walking to the Anne Frank House and the Westerkerk. The roof terrace has commanding views and in warmer weather we would have stayed in and had one of our meals up there. WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS APARTMENT Tips: Check out Moeders (a nearby restaurant offering lots of Dutch comfort food and friendly staff). Buy some Strippen Kaart (Dutch for Strip Ticket) to use on the trams and buses. We stumbled upon the main library near the Central Station while sheltering from the rain -- has two nice places to eat, lovely views, a buzzy feel (you can play a piano in the lobby) and various events on offer 04 May 2010 - 15:21:58

I was in Amsterdam on business and I worked some very long hours. It was truly a pleasure coming back to this spacious welcoming apartment. Once you get up the rather steep stairs (typical for Amsterdam) the space is warm and inviting. It really feels like home. The huge main room is lush and rich with beautiful hardwood floors and there were even flowers on the table. The bedrooms are simple and comfortable, perfect for resting. I stayed in the smaller room with the sink and I love the European bedrooms with the sink in the room. The rooftop deck is fantastic and I spent several nights unwinding up there while watching the lights of the city. There is a market on the corner to get food and spirits. It is close to public transportation but I found myself walking to most places. Normally when I travel for work I stay in nice hotels close to city centers. This was a fantastic change from that routine. I felt much more immersed in Amsterdam staying in a real apartment in an actual neighborhood. I happened to be there for Queen's Day which is a great city-wide party. The apartment is perfectly situated for the celebration. It is on the edge of the street closures so its easy to get around but close to the action. Also, there was a much different celebration going on near the apartment than the party closer to the centers. Thanks for a wonderful stay! 07 May 2010 - 17:03:43

our family of 4 (kids are 8 and 12) just stayed at the canal house as part of a year around the world trip. it was as close to home as we've had yet. the greatest aspect of it is its size and we enjoyed having some personal space. it has been meticulously restored and is fully stocked (you know how some places only have bare essentials...). we took opportunity to do our laundry, also a luxury. the location is ideal being short walks to the jordaan and anne frank house in one direction and leidseplein and van gogh etc in the other. we had a car and the owner gave me simple instructions to long term parking which was short tram ride away. communicating with the owners was always painless as was our arrival and departure. we would highly recommend this apartment to anyone wanting a great apartment while in this incredible city. 26 August 2010 - 14:29:05

We stayed at the Royal Amsterdam Apartment with 6 people and LOVED it! The apartment is comfortably furnished, beautifully decorated, and includes a well-equiped kitchen along with Washer/Dryer and Dishwasher. There is 1 "full" and 1 "half" bathroom on the bedroom floor, and 1 "half" bath on the main floor so a large group is easily accomodated. This is an upstairs apartment, but once we had our bags up the climb was nothing compared to the miles that we enjoyed perusing the city. The apartment is conveniently located with shops, restaurants, and stores within a couple of blocks. We took a single tram from the Central Station to within 3 blocks of the apartment. We found that just about everything that we wanted to see could be reached with a tram-ride and a short walk. The museums are nearby, the "9 Streets" (shopping) is adjacent, and the canals are right across the street. The owners are very friendly and professional. We enjoyed working with them and appreciated how responsive and available they were to help - not just to book the apartment, but also to make sure that we were able to get the most out of the apartment and the neighborhood. We highly recommend this apartment and hope that it's available the next time we travel to Amsterdam! 21 September 2010 - 01:22:51

My family of 5 found this apartment after another Amsterdam rental had taken a turn for the worse. Because of the earlier experience I was a bit apprehensive about trying again to rent an apartment in this beautiful city. The owners were quick to put us all at ease, going out of their way to make our stay amazing. They were waiting at the apartment to greet us when we arrived after an early landing from the USA and conversed with our taxi driver when he tried to charge us 25,00 more than he should have for the short drive from the airport (We paid 30,00 rather than the 55,00 he initially requested.). They showed us around the apartment and reviewed the operation of the various appliances, and even presented us with fresh hot cappuccinos (a real treat). Before departing they gave us maps and shared information on their favorite restaurants and places to visit. The apartment was very clean (shoes were left at the door as we do at home) and nicely furnished. The rooftop deck was an amazing place to enjoy a meal and watch the sunset. The kitchen was well furnished and the laundry was easy to maneuver with the directions provided. During an evening out we ran into them unexpectedly and they were quick to introduce us to their friends and again go out of their way to make us feel welcome. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends traveling abroad. 10 October 2010 - 23:23:22

After much research, we decided to book the Royal Canal apartment for two weeks this past July. I could never have anticipated what a great choice this was, the apartment far exceeded any expectations that I had. It is sunny, roomy and perfectly located in a quiet, residential area yet within walking distance to most attractions. It looks onto a lovely canal with nesting ducks and koets. It's also beautifully decorated and the beds are very comfortable. The roof terrace offers breathtaking views of the city, especially of the Westertoren. Luckily, we had gorgeous, sunny weather for most of our stay and enjoyed taking day trips to other towns in Holland. The bus stop is about a block away, very convenient. On the corner is a lovely upscale food market that also sells wine and liquor. The Albert Heijn is around the corner. There are also many good restaurants in the area, our favorite was De Reiger in Niewe Leliestraat. We very much enjoyed exploring Amsterdam, it's such an incredibly charming and friendly city that is easily navigable on foot or by tram. The apartment was a perfect place to end the day, to have a drink on the roof or to lounge on the comfy modular sofa which is big enough for a family. I would caution anyone who has a problem navigating stairways against renting any apartment in Amsterdam, unless it is on the ground floor. Dutch stairs are notoriously steep and narrow and may constitute a problem for those with any disabilities. With that said, this and the number of bicycle riders in the city (there's delightfully little automobile traffic!) is probably why Amsterdammers are so fit. In closing, I would not hesitate to recommend this lovely apartment to anyone, my teenage sons have said that this was their best vacation ever and I have to agree. 10 October 2010 - 20:54:05

I spent three nights with three other friends at this house in Amsterdam, and I wish we could have stayed for another week or more!! The large home is in a perfect location within walking distance of the center of town, and boasts large rooms, LOTS of character, and all the amentities you could ever ask for. In addition, the owner and all contacts were incredibly friendly and attentive! We are already talking about when we can plan our next trip! A real dream come true in beautiful Amsterdam!! 06 October 2010 - 19:06:11

There are more bathrooms than indicated. There is the one modern, huge bathroom with separate tub and shower, but then there is another bathroom with a sink and antique toilet on the floor with the 3 bedrooms. There is a sink in the double bed room. There is another bathroom with a sink and antique toilet on the main floor. There are huge closets in the twin bedroom and master bedroom. These rooms are very large. We walked everywhere or caught trams from the corner.. There are grocery stores and wonderful restaurants very close. We recommend Sara's Pancake House, Bistro 't Stuivertje, Tin Pan Alley, and Mauder's. The owner was quick to reply by email to any questions and we had no trouble with check in or check out. 02 November 2010 - 02:14:14

This was our 11th trip to Amsterdam staying in hotels, apartments, houseboats and castles, but this was by far the best place ever! Dealing with the owner Feargal was a complete joy and although he could not be there in person to meet us, his associate Lena addressed all of our needs on both our arrival and departure, including calling us a taxi to the airport. I can only echo the comments already stated but from my personal notes; 36 steep steps up to the front door! By the time I got both suitcases up there I thought I was going to die! You then walk into a foyer that leads to a restroom with toilet and sink to the left and the main house to the right. There is a door that leads into the large living and dining room along with a small balcony and the kitchen with washroom towards the back. Here you will find a sink, stove, fridge, freezer, microwave, dishwasher and washer/dryer. There is a TV, DVD player and stereo system in the living room along with a nice comfy sectional leather sofa. Going back through the door into the foyer leads to a staircase (17 steps) that takes you up to the bedrooms. To the right are two bedrooms, one with a sink, the other with a balcony much like that on the lower level while straight ahead is the master bedroom followed by the master bathroom which is equipped with a sink, toilet, stall shower and claw-foot bathtub. Just outside the door is another door which houses another toilet and sink. Behind one final door is yet another staircase that takes you up to the roof garden which is huge and I'm sure is quite nice but I'm not going back up there!!! The staircase is very rickety and Lena told us only one person can go up at once! Still, when you get up there it does offer nice views of the City, and it has a BBQ grill. Good luck getting your food from the kitchen up there though! That was from my notes during our initial walk-through of the apartment. All I can say we enjoyed the next ten nights very much indeed from the excellent location to the stunning canal view to the peaceful quiet at night. Everything seemed to be perfectly in place save for maybe a TV in one of the upstairs bedrooms, especially if you're not traveling alone which thankfully we were because as the person before me stated, there is only one bathroom with bathing facilities (claw foot tub and separate shower - very nice!) which could get a bit cramped I suppose after a few nights. I would NOT hesitate to rent this place again if we ever return!!! 11 August 2012 - 15:18:04
