We (a family of four with children aged 18 and 21) stayed at Robin's Nest right at the water front on Staten Island for the entire September. The Victorian house turned out to be the perfect getaway after a long and tiring day exploring Manhattan and the lovely Staten Island Ferry was a very relaxing experience (especially in such sunny weather!). Robin's home has got a great view of the world famous NY skyline, which we enjoyed a lot. Robin was the perfect hostess and really made us feel at home from the very beginning. She not only gave us valuable tips about NY and the surrounding area, but also took care of the little things, such as helping us out with candles when there was a one night power cut due to a storm! For us, staying with Robin on Staten Island was very worthwhile, as it combines its attractive closeness to Manhattan with the much more quiet neighbourhood (and thus a good night's sleep!). However, Staten Island is also worthwhile staying at due to some very nice attractions such as the Staten Island Zoo and for example the historical Richmond town. Our holiday at Robin's was sunny in every aspect - not just the weather! 17 October 2010 - 17:08:49

We've just arrived home from an action packed holiday with our four daughters (aged 2 to 14) in New York & used Robins Nest as our base. It is a lovely cosy aprtment in an old house, warm & nicely furnished, with all the equipment you need to cater for yourselves if you so desire. The views are quite simply the best in NYC - Where else could you stay & watch the sun rise & set over the Statue of Liberty & the Manhattan Skyline? The Staten Island ferry is fantastic & free & what's more, it's only a 10 minute walk from the house! We hired a car, but only because we had friends & family to visit not only in Staten Island, Brooklyn & Queens, but also upstate New York (Walkill & Patterson), which is stunningly beautiful & not to be missed! However for the our time in Manhatten we simply used the ferry & subway. For a peaceful retreat at a reasonable price, which has fabulous views & easy access to Manhattan - you couldn't do much better. Thanks Robin - I'm sure we'll see you again soon! This rental was reasonably priced. Roomy and very comfortable. It is nicely decorated and very accomadating for a family. We were very comfortable and loved the view! It was one of the best for the price. The free ferry adds a lot to the conveniance of this location. The owner Robin was very kind and accomodating. It is a lot of value for the price. And located away from the crazy honking horns yet close when your ready to be a part of it. :) 22 November 2010 - 03:56:35

We just returned from our NYC, Staten Island vacation. It was perfect. The house is beautifiully decorated with antiques. There are 3 beds including the sofa sleeper. We each had our own room. The view is gorgeous to say the least. We were conveniently located near the ferry so we went to NYC the first 2 days. The 3rd day we took the city bus (a first for us since we live in a rural area) The bus stop is just outside the door. We saw all of Staten Island on the bus ride. We also went to the lovely Staten Island Mall. All in all it was perfect. Would love to go back, will certainly tell all our friends. We were able to have a longer vacation by staying on Staten Island and not paying the NYC Hotel prices. I will always laugh at my first experience with steam heat. Works great just give it a few minutes. 13 April 2011 - 17:27:48

I have not had an opportunity to stay in her place yet...Unfortunately I had to delay my visit to NYC. Hoping to return soon, I will definitely be contacting this owner in the future when I plan my vacation. Thanks Robin :) 12 May 2011 - 16:32:51

Thank you so much, Robin! We had a great vacation. The house was very nice and comfortable. It was perfect for a family of four (we have two daughters ages 7 and 13). The view was amazing. The walk to the ferry was easy and the 25 minute ferry ride was very relaxing and we loved it! We would definitely stay there again and would highly recommend it to anyone that wants to visit New York City. We took the ferry to Manhatten every day and loved going to the city, but we enjoyed getting back to peaceful feeling of Staten Island. It was really nice meeting you and your family, Robin, and we truly appreciated your hospitality. 17 June 2011 - 12:17:59

Perfect location for families to park the car, spend the nights in comfort, use the free Ferry to Manhatten and connect to public transportation to any of the sights. The evening views are spectacular, the hosts are cordial, efficient and dedicated to make you feel at home while there. We had two sixteen year olds, mom, dad and grandpa with enough room to fit all comfortably for the night. Even sharing one bath with the sixteen year old girls went well with organization. We recommend this location as the finest place from which to explore New York! 24 July 2011 - 19:03:58

This property is in a great location for a visit to NYC. It is a $50 plus tip taxi ride from Newark Airport and a 10 minute level walk to the free ferry to lower Manhattan. The 25 minute ferry ride is a relaxing way to start and end a day of sightseeing in a busy city, especially in summer. The ferry terminal is close to both subway and bus routes to all points in Manhattan. A weekly transport ticket makes travel easy. The bus to the Staten Island Mall stops outside the house. The ride is interesting and it is convenient for visitors to the US who want a 'Mall' experience. There's a convenience store on the corner and a very good restaurant, Beso, nearby. Inside, the property is just as described. It was very clean and comfortable. The owners were very thoughtful and turned on the bedroom air conditioner so we would have a cool room for our 11pm arrival after flying direct from an Australian winter into a NYC heatwave. It was very quiet inside despite being near a large police station. Although there were just two of us, we very much enjoyed the space. It made sleeping easier as we adjusted to a different time zone. On departure we were able to pull our suitcases to the ferry and then take a taxi to Penn Station for the Acela train trip to Boston - recommended. A suggestion would be to print out a picture of the front of the property. The house number is difficult to see at night and our taxi driver had difficulty finding it despite having a GPS. He had to circle the block and then one of us got out to walk up the stairs to confirm the number. We have recommended this property to our friends and family as a place to stay when visiting NYC, especially for those traveling by car, free parking at the door, or those wanting a quiet place with space. 14 September 2011 - 07:28:06

05 March 2012 - 21:49:40

Our family of six had a wonderful spring break in Manhattan. A big thank you to owners Robin and Stan for their hospitality. The view from their home is spectacular and the ferry ride to and from NYC each day is such a treat. We enjoyed being able to cook our dinners each evening and then relaxed by the cozy fire. A nice supply of clean-burning firewood was always available. The steam heat was quite a novelty for our kids! Hope we see you again one day. 12 March 2012 - 23:16:09

Everything was as described in the advertisement. My sister and her two teenage daughters from South Africa met us (from Dallas, TX) there and we had a great time. Catching the ferry everyday made us feel like "locals" and we enjoyed that a lot. What made this stay even better was the fact that Robin extended her own home to us in order to accommodate us at relatively short notice. She and her gracious husband moved out so that we could enjoy our stay in New York where we celebrated my sister's 50th birthday. Let me add that I was alone with four women and never felt unsafe, even when we returned from New York after 12 A.M...and that view...wow...we will stay there again... 18 April 2012 - 05:36:28
  14. My husband, and our 3 children, ages 13, 11, and 8, visited for 5 days in early June. I had only been to NYC one other time years before and wanted to go with my kids to visit. We wanted to drive in, we live in Ohio, but not have to worry about parking in Manhattan. So we stayed at Robin's place. This was a great retreat for our family after walking all day in NYC. The ferry ride was relaxing and easy to walk to from the house. The ferry was free - which I didn't know before I went. Also, it runs 24 hours a day! The house accommodated all of us with room to stretch out and have privacy. I initially was worried about parking our van - would we find a spot and would it be safe? We arrived late on a Friday night, and there was space right in front of the house to park. We never moved the car until we left to go home. We enjoyed pizza from A&S pizza, a local place 3 blocks away on Stuyvesant. We also dropped of laundry 2 doors down which they washed, folded and bagged and we picked up after a day in NYC. We felt safe and comfortable. Robin was helpful and easy to communicate with. 04 November 2012 - 23:58:22

We were looking for a kind of home-away-from-home to have a family Thanksgiving gathering with our daughter who goes to school in NYC. This worked perfectly, with an easy commute back and forth on the Staten Island Ferry. The flat is well equipped, clean, and comfortable. Sitting on the couch in the living room, you look out on the water and can see the Statue of Liberty and New York skyline. The owner was responsive to emailed questions before we arrived, and made sure we had all we needed. We'd definitely consider coming back here again on a future visit. 05 December 2012 - 06:46:35

Robin was there when we arrived to help us settle in. After enjoying a pleasant breakfast on the outside backyard patio, we took the ferry over to the city every day. For a few nights of our stay we had the added advantage of fireworks over the Staten Island Yankee stadium (when they won) which we could watch from either inside or outside on the front porch. We also very much enjoyed the deli down the street who made us feel like locals and even gave our kids a staten island yankee baseball. Robin was delightful and helpful and the place was charming. 23 February 2013 - 17:15:40

We first visited New York in 2009, and stayed in a Times Square, Manhatten Hotel for three nights - it was rather hectic. For the re-visit we wanted a more relaxing six night stay, and this Staten Island rental appeared to be perfect. We were not disappointed. The rooms actually seemed larger than they appeared in the pictures, and the location was ideal, being only a 10 minute walk to the Staten Island Ferry terminal while looking across at the buildings of Manhatten - fantastic. The area is quiet and safe, probably helped by having the local NYPD a couple of hundred yards along the road, opposite the Baseball ground - where we got to see our first Baseball game (season opener) followed by a firework display (home team win). We had our main meals in Manhatten restaurants that we had used previously, but we had no problems getting provisions at the local markets for our breakfasts and snacks. 30 June 2013 - 15:55:30

Our journey to Staten Island began August 21st through the 28th. We came to bring our daughter Brooke to Wagner College. We are from Hawaii. When I initially found Robin and Stan's VRBO I knew this was the place for us, a true home away from home! Robin and i had a connection right off the bat. The home is in close proximity to the college and we were able to cook most of our meals in the amply equipped kitchen. The A/C was wonderful to have, the home was oh so cozy, safe and we slept so well which never happens when we travel! Robin was hospitable and I think went out of her way to make us all comfortable. Being so close to the Ferry was amazing, and the laundry service down the street fantastic dropped off in the morning and picked it up in the evening (our choice) as Robin for the details! I feel we have made life long friends and we definitely will be back whenever we come to Staten island which we anticipate will be often! If there was one downside I would say it was the parking BUT this is just the way it is anywhere these days. There was only one time actually we stressed over the parking but we decided to park in the Ferry lot and it was only 7 dollars a day! SCORE! Thank you Robin and Stan it was your comfortable home that helped us leave NY knowing our daughter would be ok, Robin even gave Brooke her personal number in case she needed anything! Now thats a testimony you won't find just anywhere!!!! 01 September 2013 - 19:41:30

I am so glad I chose this rental property! The home was lovely and most importantly: CLEAN. There was plenty of sleeping space for the 6 of us and the kitchen was very convenient. Robin has the apartment stocked with high-end linens. We also appreciated the free on-street parking. I grew up on Staten Island and so I understood how conveniently situated this property was. It was easy as pie to walk to and from the ferry terminal. Even at night, we 2 single moms never felt unsafe to be walking with our kids. There is a police station between the house and the terminal, but even without it the neighborhood would be safe. Although we spent 4 wonderful days visiting Manhattan, the main purpose of our trip was to visit the world HQ of Jehovah's Witnesses in Brooklyn, as well as the other properties in Wallkill and Patterson. We left for Wallkill at 7:30 on a Tuesday morning and it took about 2 hours but that was because it was my 1st time ever driving in snow and I was being extra cautious. Getting back to the house from Patterson that evening was an easy drive as well. A few days later we took the train to Brooklyn and it was a very simple process. If you are traveling to NY for this purpose, Robin's house is an excellent choice. Three years ago I rented a different house through this site and it was a disaster that almost ruined my vacation. I was hesitant to give it another go but I am so glad I did. Even though Robin was out of town for almost our entire stay, she kept in touch via email to offer info about the house and to check on us when a storm rolled in. Our exciting and upbuilding vacation was made all the more enjoyable for having stayed at Robin's Nest. I will absolutely stay there again the next time I visit NYC! 05 December 2013 - 02:34:58

My family (3 adults, 1 teen and a dog) had a wonderful time at Robins place. The apartment is roomy and well provisioned, especially the kitchen, for a short or extended stay. The location is a brief and safe walk to the ferry terminal- literally minutes and then aboard the free ferry that runs all night to downtown Manhattan- it really couldnt be easier. Cafs and a farmers market are close by. If you want some green space there is the historic Alice Austin House and the Chinese scholars and botanical gardens at Snug Harbor. It makes for a great home base for activities on Staten Island and Manhattan. Robin is a great help- there when you need help, but very conscientious of your privacy. She provided great communication leading up to our stay and was an enormous help while we shared her home. I cannot recommend Robins Nest highly enough- youll be close to all that is great about NYC, but still have the creature comforts of home. 08 December 2014 - 22:04:34
