Big, beautiful apartment just a few blocks from Nevsky Prospekt and many historic sites. Nice neighborhood with many conveniences nearby. Clean, quiet, nice bathroom, functional kitchen, huge living room with windows overlooking the canal. We were very happy with the place and would have rated it 5 stars except for one situation. We had the windows open and a wind gust pushed the curtains into a floor lamp causing it to fall over, breaking the shade. This had nothing to do with us, strictly an "act of god". I did the right thing and pointed it out to the owner's representative at the end of our stay. She contacted the owner and we were informed that we would have $100 deducted from our damage deposit. I really feel that was an unfair and short-sighted response. Regardless, I highly recommend this property. 19 July 2016 - 17:34:00

We thoroughly enjoyed our time in St Petersburg and staying at this location. We were able to walk most everywhere we wanted to go as a tourist within 10-15 minutes. Apartment was clean, spacious and equipped with all the basic necessities. Natale was very gracious and accommodating, meeting with us to check out at 2:15am for an early morning flight! The only issues we had were with the alarm, which we were warned about. A power outage tripped the alarm two times when we were not there and we had to meet the police. Also one suggestion for improvement, a water filter container would be a nice enhancement. We were warned to not drink the tap water, so we bought bottled. But a filter container for the refrigerator would be a nice addition. We would gladly stay there again. 01 May 2017 - 12:25:00

We've stayed at Edward's apartment for 5 days in the beginning of July. Edward was a pleasure to work with from the moment of booking and replied to all our questions within a hour. He arranged for us his representative, Natalia, to meet us at airport in the mid of the night and give us ride to the property. You cannot beat location of Edward's apartment with ten minutes walk to major street in Saint Petersburg, Nevsky Prospekt. The apartment itself is spacious with high ceilings and windows overlooking the canal on one side, huge bathtub in the bathroom, and small but cozy kitchen with all necessary appliances . Here you can find everything you need for your stay. The nearest grocery store is next block and large supermarket is ten minutes away. While staying at Edward's apartment we did not feel lost in the big city. Natalia was easy to reach with a phone call away. We highly recommend Edward's apartment. 19 July 2017 - 14:52:00

29 July 2017 - 11:25:00

Location is perfect walking distance to main spb sights. Lots of good cheap restaurants and small supermarkets nearby. Did not have time to visit Bishops and Rockets craft beer cafe. Apartment is on a grand scale giving a feel for a rich merchants life 200 years ago with furniture to match. Well equipped with all modern facilities. Very comfortable beds. We enjoyed an early checkin with Natalya who carefully took time to explain everything to us in perfect English. Highlight was Mariinsky ballet. We booked ahead. 15 minutes walk away. We also used Igor from Feelfree tours to visit places outside spb. His free tour is a great intoduction to spb. 28 May 2016 - 07:06:00

The apartment is exactly as listed in the description. It's beautifully decorated, comfortable, quiet and has all the amentities of home and perfect for relaxing after a day of touring the city. The location is excellent, within walking distance to the tourist sites, grocery stores, restaurants as well as the Mariinsky theatre. We absolutely loved our stay in this apartment and Edward was wonderful to deal with from the rental aspect as well as helping with transportation to/from the airport. Thanks to Edward and his beautiful apartment our time in St. Petersburg was exceptional and made our time there memorable!!! 17 June 2010 - 17:05:53
  8. Just returned from a very hot week in St Petersburg, the flat was amazing to come back to in the evenings, very spacious, well equiped, great views over the canal and central enough to be able to walk to most places. Edward was excellent to deal with, always responded promptly to e mails, organised transport to and from the airport, nothing was too much trouble. I would strongly recomend this flat to anyone who wants the freedom that renting a flat gives. 02 August 2010 - 13:36:48

A beautiful, secure, atmospheric and comfortable apartment! This is a great base from which to explore a fascinating city. Weve stayed at Home-Away properties all over Europe, and the standard of this one is high, it has wonderful views and excellent facilities. Our stay commenced in late Autumn, when you might expect the weather to be cold, but the apartment was always cosy and welcoming. We found Edward reliable and quick to respond to our emails. He arranged for a taxi driver to escort us from the arrival and departure points, and this all went very smoothly. Alla, the rep who met us at the apartment, could not have made us feel more welcome. She promptly sorted out our registration documents and arrived at short notice on a rainy night when we wanted advice on how to light the gas oven. There are several reasons why we considered this apartment a good choice, some practical, some aesthetic. In practical terms, we liked the reliable internet connection, comfy beds in both rooms, easy-to-use washing machine/dishwasher, convenient location close to Nevsky Prospect, the Hermitage etc., and clean, efficient cooking facilities/utensils. This was important to us as we are vegetarian and like to cook our own food. There are two small supermarkets very close by where you can stock up on things like bottled water, fruit, sirock (a local sweet cheese) and bread. But we often went to a larger supermarket on Nevsky Prospekt near the metro, for some good vegetarian options. We are not TV fans, but tried out the TV and found it had a wide range of interesting channels in many languages. Perhaps what left the most lasting impression were the views of the canal. We hope to stay at this apartment again and definitely recommend it. 28 November 2010 - 14:05:08

All-in-all my wife and I were happy with the apartment. Edward has a new rep who does speak English and was very helpful. She picked us up from the train station (R1,000) and took us to the airport at 3:15 a.m. for R1,200. She also got our registration papers (R1,000 each person and R1,000 her fee) which, by the way, is a complete rip-off by the Russian government. The air conditioning is only in the living room; so on a hot day it might not adequately cool the bedroom. The internet worked just fine and there were some English TV stations. Edward said that he disconnected the telephones because some guests were calling long distance. Actually the bedroom phone had a very slight dial tone that rang with wrong numbers (twice); there should be a way to stop any calls but local. We has no water the first night, and we were VERY UNHAPPY! Edward explained that the whole block? lost water; it was restored the next morning. More importantly, he sent the rep and a plumber just to verify all was fixed, and set-up the local water heater if needed. This showed us that he cares about his guests. (You gotta have a computer and SKYPE; also it's a good idea to have a GSM cell phone and a Russian SIM card [R200].) We did hear some noise from the bottom floor construction, and the boat's loudspeakesr can be heard with the windows open. But, no, you can't see the canal -- nor the people drinking by the canal -- lying in bed. The Hermitage and Nevsky Pr. are 10 minutes away and the big market is 5 minutes away. Considering the cost of hotels, the excellent location, the spaciousness, this is a good value and we recommend it. 17 June 2011 - 19:34:55

We absolutely love the apartment and the location. We were able to walk everywhere and the metro was only a few minutes away. Edward arranged for us to be picked up and taken back to the airport which was so wonderful and alleviated any stress associated with our travel days. I can't remember her name but the lady who picked us up was so nice and helpful, really a pleasant woman and we appreciated her kindness. The only thing people need to know is that at this time, there is a bunch of construction work going on the roof behind us and across the canal so there is noise all day long. There is noise from the street at all hours but again, that didn't bother me (we both slept with ear plugs) but my friend wasn't able to really be as calm as she would have liked. I did have an issue with the many mosquitos that seem to love biting me, they didn't bother my friend but I literally have 20 bites on one arm. I'm assuming this was because of the canal water. We had a lovely time, in spite of the noise and mosquitos. Thank you for having such a nice home. 10 August 2012 - 04:54:20

I visited St. Petersburg because my daughter is studying abroad at St. Petersburg State University. The apartment was very conveniently located to all or most attractions and the metro was a short distance away. It is extremely inexpensive and easy to navigate. The apartment was lovely, very warm (the weather was very biting) and comfortable. The photos are a very accurate reflection of the accommodations and we had everything we needed. There was a grocery store across the canal and another larger one a few blocks away. I would recommend the Kaliki Armenian restaurant, the Vodka Restaurant and Museum and The Idiot Restaurant. Any museum or cathedral is worth seeing and I particularly enjoyed the Yusupov Palace and Hermitage. Natalya, our contact in Russia, transported us back and forth to the airport and was so kind and informative. I would recommend this apartment to anyone visiting St. Petersburg. I loved my trip! 20 November 2012 - 14:02:35

We stayed in this apartment for 7 nights in April 2013 and found it to be very well-equipped with everything working well. The furnishings are very nice and the apartment is quite spacious. It is within walking distance of several very good restaurants, grocery shops, a bank with ATM and major sites. Natalya, the local contact for the owner, picked us up at the airport, showed us how everything works in the apartment and where everything was. She was patient enough to make sure we had her phone # in our phones and that we were on the apartment's WIFI which worked great! Her husband took us to the airport on the day of our departure which was very comforting as we needed to leave the apartment at 5 a.m. for our departing flight. The only negative (and this is quickly forgotten) is that the entry door, lobby and staircase to the apartment are pretty grubby. Fresh paint and a good cleaning would resolve this, but, as I said, it was quickly forgotten as everything else was so perfect. 17 April 2013 - 21:24:04

The two of us stayed in this apartment while in Saint Petersburg in December of 2012. We traveled from the US and made all the arrangements and finalized payment before we left. I found Edward to be straight forward and timely in his dealings with us. A real gentlemen. Natalya, his agent, was excellent. She showed us how everything worked and the one time we needed to call her she answered right away. We were also able to arrange a ride to the airport at a reasonable price as well. No worries. The apartment was exactly as depicted in the photos. It snowed every day we were there and we were up and out every morning before 7 am, hours before the sun rose. We never felt unsafe in the neighborhood. The apartment is located on a street that is not as busy as a main street and there are many small restaurants and markets close by. The metro is several blocks away and near a larger market. The apartment was clean and all the appliances worked; we made breakfast every morning. We were traveling light so having a washer and dryer was great. The view out the window was nice, looking out onto the canal, with the snow coming down; it felt like we were living in a Russian novel. Wonderful place to stay. It is a perfect place to use as a base to see the city. It is off the main track enough so you feel like you are not just a visitor, but actually a resident of the city, while at the same time it is near enough to the metros and Nevsky Prospect so that getting to all the sights was easy. I highly recommend it and hope to be able to return soon. Thank you Edward and Natalya for such a great hassle free experience! 09 September 2013 - 15:35:46

I stayed in the apartment for a month from May to June 2013. As other guests have mentioned, the apartment is very spacious and comfortable and within easy walking distance of the main sights. Natalya is a very helpful, courteous local representative of the owner Edward. It is on the 3rd floor without a lift but is fine if you are able-bodied. Highlights of my stay were the Graduation Performance of the Vaganova Ballet Academy held at the Mariinsky theatre and a performance of 'The Nutcracker' at the Alexandrinsky Theatre. Having seen Leningrad many years ago in winter it was strange not seeing St Petersburg in the dark - the White Nights are fascinating and the boat ride on the canals is an experience not to be missed. Maybe there is no ideal time to visit St Petersburg - you need to choose either the romance of the snow in winter or the perpetual daylight in late spring/summer. In any case, this apartment is ideal and St Petersburg exerts an exotic fascination on her visitors! 24 January 2014 - 17:01:43

While I realize I should start with comments about the apartment I want to first say how beautiful and interesting St Petersburg is. A great city. I appreciated Natalya's ( the owner's representative) kind and helpful reception and orientation. The location is great but do note that the distances are longer than anticipated by reviewing maps but still doable. I lost about 5 pounds with the walking. The Hermitage is about 15 minutes away - the Kazan Church about the same - the Church of the Spilled Blood about the same. Good restaurants in the immediate area including Mickey and Monkeys in the same building. A coupe of other recommended restaurants are the Idiot and Erivan. We were in the apartment for 12 days - felt at home. We made a nice breakfast every day at the apartment and then set off on our adventures. Small grocery stores open 24 hours were minutes away. A friend and his daughter (26 years old) from Germany spent 5 days with us and were very impressed with the apartment and the location. He had wanted to visit the Hermitage and the Russian Museum for years. We were able to have wonderful conversations in the apartment before and after our excursions. Great apartment, great location and one of the best cities in the world. I hope to return soon. 19 September 2015 - 00:39:23

The apartment is spacious, in a great location and in proximity and walking distance to all major attractions. A living room and both bedrooms have a nice view of the canal. The apartment looks perfectly renovated and it is in really excellent conditions. I thought the apartment looked great on pictures but this place much exceeded my expectations when I really saw it and get in there. 19 November 2017 - 20:25:00

We found ourselves unexpectedly without lodging in St. Petersburg and emailed Edward, the landlord, late at night as we boarded the overnight train to St. Petersburg to let him know of our distress. He responded within about 4 minutes, and arranged for his local representative, Natalya, to meet us the following morning to let us in. Sure enough, Natalya was waiting for us when we arrived. She spoke English beautifully and showed us around the apartment. The apartment itself was clean, spacious, and well-located overlooking the Griboyedov Canal. Definitely try nearby Mickey & Monkeys for some tasty, interesting food in a fun environment. 05 June 2017 - 16:41:00

This apartment was entered using an existing key while we were gone, all our things rummaged through--and all our money (approx. $1000 cash) and my new iPad, iPhone, jewelry, and other items were stolen. Police were called and we spent 4 hours at the apartment with them and another 5 hours at the police station. Edward's agent, Natalya was extremely helpful and had the locks changed that evening. Edward has no insurance to cover this situation, and declined to reimburse for anything. Two days later, it appeared a similar situation was being set up and police were again called. The apartment is spacious and we were quite pleased with the accommodations, but very unhappy with the break in and losing around $2,500 worth of money and items. 04 June 2016 - 23:19:07
