About listing

It is widely agreed that the Jordaan is one of, if not THE best neighborhood in Amsterdam. It has lovely canals, great shopping, galleries and restaurants, weekly street markets and easy access to all the tourist sights in Amsterdam. Enjoy a unique experience on one of the funkiest boats in town located in the best neighborhood on one of the prettiest canals. Our quaint 'bohemian inspired' houseboat is full of artistic flair with all the comforts of home. Guests can enjoy a 'walking holiday' as attractions are easily reached on foot, or rent a bike just around the corner. Views across the canals and bridges are sprinkled with beautiful churches and amazing Dutch architecture. If location, location, location is your wish in Amsterdam, this is the rental for you. The space is perfect for 2 people or a couple with 1 small child. It is a small boat with low ceilings, but once you get cuddled inside it is extremely comfortable with all the modern amenities plus spectacular views on the canal out every window. We have a large outside decks on the canal and street sides (rare on houseboats) adorned with beautiful flowers and plants. The interior of the boat has 'funky' bright colors, cool lighting and lots of visual candy. There are 2 rooms and several outdoor sitting areas. The main room has a comfortable sitting area, dining table, kitchen and a queen sized bed. The 2nd room has a bathtub / shower, bathroom, office area and a single bed. Guests will have access to the entire home including high-speed wireless internet, cable TV, stove top, microwave and small toaster oven, Nespresso Coffee machine, Phillips Juicing machine and mixer, hot water pot for tea and kitchen and bathroom supplies.

Great location, everything worked well, especially the shower. Room for 3, however Difficult for 2 to sit at the table, too close to bed area. 16 June 2017 - 08:46:00

We stayed at the houseboat for a good portion of a week and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. The location is great -- not to far from restaurants (a wonderful pancake house is literally across the street) and shops is the Jordaan neighborhood. It's a easy walk from the Amsterdam Centraal Station, so you have access to any place within or around Amsterdam by local transit and by foot. Situated on the water, it provides great views of the canal or watching the activity in the neighborhood. It was also a very convenient location to local groceries if you want to cook your own meals. First of all, the houseboat is very welcoming and it has a wonderful eclectic mix of decor with amazing attention to detail. Exploring the interior of this place is a good adventure in itself. I won't give away all the details, but it includes eye-catching tasteful art on the walls and ceilings, one-of-a-kind lighting, and a psychedelic black-light bathroom, memorabilia, and more. Functionally, the houseboat has it all. Though it is quite compact in size, we had plenty of room for a family of three, with a fully stocked and very functional kitchen, dining area, desk, and bathroom. We never felt cramped and had plenty places to hang out. The Internet connection was very reliable and fast. Our host was very nice and helpful for getting us started and oriented, meeting us during check-in process. Check-out was a breeze. I would recommend this place for anyone who wants a very fun, stylish place to stay while in Amsterdam. 11 March 2017 - 18:04:00

I can't say enough about how much we loved our stay here. It really enhanced our enjoyment of our first trip to Amsterdam. The photos of this place just don't do it justice. Every nook and cranny is filled with fun stuff. A life time of collecting. Each time I looked around I saw something different. This place is tiny for sure but they have made practical use of all of the space so my husband and I were always comfortable. The kitchen was well situated and I enjoyed cooking in while enjoying the view from my kitchen window. Every evening we enjoyed drinking wine on our porch and visiting with Gatsby.. The cat from the I Vintage store from across the street. Our hostess Magriet was as sweet as can be and was amazingly helpful. We really enjoyed the refreshments and the pantry items left for us. My favorite thing about this place was the shower. The best shower that I have had on any of my travels. Hot nd perfect with a heavenly theme that made me feel like I was in a little cathedral every day. The originality of this place blew my mind!, I could not have been more impressed or felt more at home. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to stay here. Thank you.. Vicki Cox 26 June 2017 - 20:58:00

My husband and I visited Amsterdam several years ago and of course took a Canal Tour Boat ride. While on that cruise we noticed all these darling houseboats all along the canals. I told my husband When we go back We Must Rent a Houseboat to live on. When I found this rental on VRBO I just knew I had found the Best. From the minute Marguerite showed us our Home away from Home We Fell in Love. Every detail of this houseboat is Perfect. The Decor is definitely Bohemian Chic but even the orange and purple were perfect together. The kitchen had everything we needed or could possibly want to make all our meals in for the whole week we were there. There is a great market just down the canal one block away that had Fabulous food just like Whole Foods at home. Great bakery right across from market that makes Fabulous Chocolate Donuts to die for. We Loved our stay even in the middle of a bad week of rain and winds that our local Host Marguerite came over to warn us about. She was a great Host to show you how everything works and all the closets and cupboards so unpacking was a breeze. Marguerite even had fresh flowers and a nice cheese tray and wine all waiting for us to introduce us to our new home and certainly made us feel very Welcome. We had a Very Romantic week completely by ourselves all Cozy in our Bohemian Love Boat. Thank you Jody for having such an incredible houseboat and Thank you for allowing Steven and I to Share it. 06 October 2017 - 18:34:00

Everywhere you look in this boat there is a creative and fun element. The boat was a little small for three, but worked out great. When we walked in, there were swans looking in through the windows! The boat was left stocked with orange juice, apple juice, coffee pods for the nespresso, water and tea. The location was perfect, occasionally loud on Friday night with party boats going by. This rental truly enhanced our stay and was memorable in and of itself. 28 September 2017 - 03:06:00

We had three nights in this fabulous houseboat. Location is fantastic, able to walk everywhere of interest. Owner was extremely easy to deal with and Anna who met us on arrival was lovely and very helpful. Would highly recommend this eclectic and fun accommodation to anyone visiting Amsterdam. 05 November 2014 - 03:20:07

We stayed in this great little boat for 8 nights last month. I've used VRBO several times and always had great luck -- but this place is really something special, better than any other VRBO property I've experienced. The Bohemian Houseboat was a perfect location for exploring the city, and it was so cozy and comfortable! The information you see on this listing is 100% accurate; we knew what to expect before arriving. Anna was prompt and kind, and when we arrived to drop off our luggage, the houseboat was ready (early!). The water was always hot, and water pressure was fantastic. The kitchen was handy, and we spent a lot of time on the back porch, enjoying the sights and swans. I highly recommend this boat for your Amsterdam get away! 09 December 2014 - 18:42:35

This houseboat is incredible!!! Anna, the onsite manager, is excellent, personable and informative! This boat has more personality than any 3 - five star hotel rooms. The location couldn't be better with walking access to most of the city, a 2 block walk to the tram and bus stop to go everywhere else. Restaurants for breakfasts, lunches and dinners are within a very short walk. Canal living is really fun and the description is very accurate. This is a unique houseboat and is great for people who want to have a great time enjoying Amsterdam!!! 30 March 2015 - 14:53:35

My husband & I stayed on Jody's Bohemian Houseboat and absolutely loved it! It is by far our most favorite place we've ever rented in Amsterdam. The boat is delightful, artistic, colorful and well equipped. It is obvious that a lot of love and care went into it. The location is perfect, within walking distance to so much and a tram line is close by as well. It was so much fun "living" on the canal. The decks are lovely with flowering plants all around and a great place to have a meal or coffee/tea and watch the boats glide by. Anna, the property manager, is wonderful and she let us leave our luggage there early. There are weekly markets nearby for fresh produce, breads, cheeses, clothes, jewelry and all sorts of fun things. Plenty of great shops and restaurants too. The Joordan is our favorite neighborhood in Amsterdam. Thanks Jody and Anna. We hope to get the opportunity to stay there again. 09 June 2015 - 18:13:58

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay on the boat. There are so many design elements (trinkets, art, etc) that we found ourselves tremendously entertained just with the dcor. The location is great as there are plenty of bars, restaurants and shops within walking distance. When we stayed the weather was quite warm so we had to leave the windows open in order to stay cool (there's no A/C which seemed to be the norm throughout the city). Fortunately the boat cools fairly quickly as you can create a cross breeze and the neighborhood was not too noisy at night during our stay. The boat is quite tiny (almost like a camper), but was perfect for the two of us. I would recommend this place for a couple or a couple with a small child, but I think it might be a bit awkward for three adults as the bathroom is essentially an extension of the second sleeping area. 14 July 2015 - 13:45:18

My husband and I had a wonderful week on this houseboat while celebrating his 60th birthday. This houseboat has about anything you might need for a vacation in Amsterdam if you look around, and golly, is it fun to look around! It's also in a perfect location to get a good look around Amsterdam and its environs. Centraal Station is an easy walk from the houseboat. From there, you can catch a train, bus, ferry, tram or the metro to anywhere you'd like to go. You may also catch the tram near the Westerkerk, only a few blocks away. Mostly, though, we chose to walk. Amsterdam is a very walkable city, and we had some lovely times just wandering around, seeing what we might see. We never felt unsafe in all our wandering. On nice days, the boats on the canal were numerous. We loved sitting on the patio and watching the happy parade. If you are so inclined, we found that a wave to the passengers of a passing tour boat generated many, many smiles. We loved that! But when we wanted a bit more quiet, we could find it inside the houseboat. One of my favorite parts of staying on the boat was hearing the bells from the Westerkerk. So charming and beautiful! This was just such a fun and memorable visit to Amsterdam, and staying on this houseboat accounted for most of that. We would feel very fortunate, indeed, if we were able to return and stay here again. 20 September 2015 - 23:42:00

This houseboat was a wonderful place for my husband and I to spend 10 days while we visited our daughter, who is working in Amsterdam. It is exquisitely decorated, and it is in vibrant and exciting neighborhood. We were very comfortable and enjoyed the houseboat tremendously. 13 November 2017 - 21:22:00

The boat was great, after 4 trips to Amsterdam this is our favorite so far. Great shower, heat, tv, and kitchen. Ducks and swans swim right up to the windows our first morning. 21 December 2017 - 17:05:00

We absolutely loved this cozy houseboat. The decor was fantastic and the location perfect. You are within walking distance of everything Amsterdam has to offer. There were 3 of us and although the houseboat is on the smaller side we did not feel too crowded. I could live on this houseboat and wished we could have stayed longer! Jody was a great host and Margriet, who helps manage the property, was charming and helpful. 21 December 2017 - 17:18:00
