Helen's House is a cabin style home which has a large living room with a stone fireplace, dining area and king bedroom, all with picture windows which have scenic vistas of Tomales Bay. The property also has an outdoor campfire area as well as a picnic area with wood slab tables and gas barbecue which also overlooks Tomales Bay and the State Park lands. Located on Pierce Point peninsula at the entrance to Tomales Bay State Park, The Trees By Tomales Bay consists of two private vacation homes situated on 5 acres. The property features spectacular views of Tomales Bay and Abbotts Lagoon, and is surrounded on all sides by State Park and National Seashore. POINT REYES NATIONAL SEASHORE comprises over 100 square miles, including 32,000 acres of coastal wilderness area. Estuaries, windswept beaches, coastal scrub grasslands, salt and freshwater marshes, and coniferous forests create a haven of 80 miles of unspoiled and undeveloped coastline. Abundant recreational opportunities include 147 miles of hiking trails, backcountry campgrounds, and numerous beaches, including over 10 continuous miles of unspoiled beach. Kayaking, biking, hiking, beachcombing, surf fishing, seasonal whale and elephant seal watching, bird watching and wildlife viewing are just a few of the activities awaiting your visit. Additionally, you can explore geology, Coast Miwok Indian culture or Lighthouse history by visiting the many historic sites within the park. Located just an hour’s drive from the San Francisco Bay Area, the Seashore is a great escape from a busy city life. TOMALES BAY STATE PARK is comprised of a 2,000-acre day-use park which features four gently sloping, surf-free beaches, protected from winds by Inverness Ridge, the backbone of the Point Reyes Peninsula, as well as forests, fields, hills, meadows and marshes - each with its own plant life, including varieties of trees, shrubs and wildflowers. One of the finest remaining virgin groves of Bishop pine in California is in the park's Jepson Memorial Grove. Wildlife in the area includes foxes, raccoons, badgers, weasels, chipmunks, squirrels, rabbits, deer, bobcats, skunks, wood rats, field mice, moles and other animals. There are also land and sea birds, including the spotted owl, quail, goldfinches, puffins, great blue heron, pelicans, ruddy ducks, woodpeckers, meadowlarks - and more. The park has hiking trails connecting all its bay beaches, and is a popular place for picnicking, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, bird watching, clamming and boating. Keywords: Vacation Home

What a hidden gem! We had a wonderful stay at Helen's House and so glad we chose it...the pictures don't do it justice. It's location is not only beautiful but very private making it quiet and relaxing. The home is well cared for with it's comfy furniture and beds to the local artwork inside and out. Between the beautiful landscaping, abundant wildlife and views of Tomales Bay, we felt as if we were in our own private sanctuary. Our children loved exploring the grounds, going to Heart's Desire Beach, then sitting in front of the fireplace at night. The only bad thing about Helen's House is having to leave! We will definitely be returning to this magical place for another stay! To Jeff and Barbie - thanks so much! 14 March 2011 - 02:03:14

I booked Helen's House for my wife's birthday and we arrived late on a Friday night. When we woke up on Saturday morning, we were treated to an amazing sunrise out of the Living room window. The weather was unseasonably good so needless to say we didn't spend all of our time inside but I think this would be a great place to stay even on a rainy day. Helen's House is simple, comfortable and cozy and located right in the middle of a stunning location. 10 February 2012 - 00:21:22

Jeff made us welcome on our arrival with daffodils fresh-picked from the yard. Notes here and there explained all we needed to know about the house. it felt more like a friendly B&B than a vacation rental. The weather forecast prepared us for two days indoors, which would have been just fine with the fireplace, comfortable living room and well-equipped kitchen. The weather soon turned sunny, though, with glorious views of backyard flowers and Tomales Bay from the two huge picture windows. It was just a short drive to the Point Reyes beaches, historic ranches, and other attractions of the National Seashore and state park that surround the house, and to restaurants and shops in Inverness and Point Reyes Station. We'll definitely be back. 03 March 2012 - 18:37:31

Helen's House is wonderful beyond words. We have rented quite a few houses all over California, and this is one of our favorites, without question. Its location is superb, and the interior is cozy and comfortable, especially the gorgeous fireplace and the neat antique radio. We went hiking, horseback riding, and just relaxed and watched the water. A couple of markets in Inverness are very close by and the town of Point Reyes with restaurants and shopping is just a few minutes further. Jeff and Barbie were very easy to deal with, and the directions clear, with everything we needed at the house. All in all, definitely a 5-star experience! 08 December 2013 - 01:53:39

My husband and I took our son and his wife and our little grandson for a weekend getaway to Helens House. We have been to Tomales many times and have stayed at several places on the bay. Helens House was such a great find! It was clean, beds were so comfy, all the comforts of home, and the grounds were beautiful! What a view from out in the back where we spent a good deal of our time, watching birds, hawks, deer and other wildlife. What a wonderful weekend. We will be back again. 24 March 2014 - 17:53:58

We stayed with three adults and one three year old. This was a perfect spot for trips to the park and the beaches. Typically I am not a nature person but given the exceptional beauty of Jeff and Barbie's house (the view of Tomales Bay is stunning) and factoring in the proximity of some world class food available just down the road in Point Reyes Station I would head back there in a minute. My son was completely and utterly satisfied with the gardens and nearby wilderness (pay close attention to the poison oak though!). 26 March 2014 - 19:04:49

This was a perfect spot. The house is lovely, spacious and clean, and really comfortable. Beautiful views and easy access to all of Pt. Reyes National Seashore. It is just off the beaten path enough to afford privacy and quiet. We loved it and will be back. 28 September 2014 - 21:01:52

Seriously, the most unbelievable weekend out in Inverness. The weather was amazing, in the 90's (record high I believe) and just gorgeous. I don't think we could have picked a better weekend! We celebrated my birthday with family and we felt like we were a million miles away. We spent time driving to all the beautiful beaches and Abbott's Lagoon, my favorite. Helen's House location is perfect, quiet and beautiful views and the interior is cozy and comfortable, we loved the huge fireplace. So cozy to wake up to with a gorgeous view. We used the outdoor fireplace both nights and roasted marshmallows. Pt. Reyes has fabulous restaurants and we cooked in one night too. Beds were super comfy and I'd say, all in all, definitely a 5-star experience for my husband and myself and our 8 year old twins. Jeff and Barbie were so easy to work with and very accommodating. We will be back! 09 January 2015 - 06:29:38

Helen's House is a quiet, comfortable home convenient to all the best that Point Reyes National Seashore has to offer. From views of Tomales Bay at sunrise to fields of daffodils set in a beautiful garden, we felt as if we had found our own private Eden. Thank you, Jeff and Barbie, for sharing your grandmother's house with us. We hope to return soon. 19 February 2015 - 04:18:50

Here is a place to get away from it all. The cabin is perfectly self-contained for a cook in or eat out stay. Serves two couples well with comfortable beds in each bedroom and bathrooms to serve both. Big tub/shower in the master bath. Fireplace added so much to our evenings. Big, comfortable couches for plopping down after a long day of sightseeing. Views are worth $1,000,000. Kitchen well stocked with dishes, silverware. Washer/dryer, stove for cooking, microwave for heating up. Lots of easy access parking. Now for the park. Pt. Reyes is a beautiful park on the coast of Northern California. You will see deer, elk, many species of birds, sea lions and whales in seasons. Many back roads for exploring. Many trails for hiking. Sweeping vistas of Pt. Reyes highlands and Pacific ocean and coastline. For eating out try Pt. Reyes Station for several restaurants. Bovine Bakery has wonderful breakfast pastries. Reservations are necessary on weekends at the popular restaurants. 11 November 2015 - 16:35:58

We stayed for 3 nights at Helen's House in April 2017 and LOVED it. We were 3 generations: my wife, 3-year old daughter and mother-in-law and we had a ball. Our daughter cried when it was time to leave. We felt so fortunate to be on such a special piece of land in such a cozy and loving home. Jeff welcomed us with family stories and an introduction to the home. There were fresh cut wild flowers in every room of this modest and lived in home. We have spent much time in Inverness and have rented other homes here, which lead us to appreciate how special Helen's House is. It is in an incredible - and unique - location, overlooking Tomales Bay and tucked into the Bishop Pine woods which are adjacent to the National Park lands - so one feels the peace of the open forest all around. We had planned to eat out at all of the wonderful restaurants in town, yet didn't want to leave our cozy nest. We had big fires at night, watched the sun rise in the morning (from bed, couch or breakfast table!) and took strolls around the outside gardens. There are so many places to explore nearby - we went to Limantour Beach (where we saw a mama and baby whale), Heart's Desire beach (2 minutes drive from the house - where we launched our kayak and our 3-year old played on the beach) and saw the great Spring burst of wildflowers on a walk at Chimney Rock. We would recommend this location with a reminder that it is in the woods, which is a great gift and allows one to be close to the natural beauty of this unique region, which has somehow kept it's low-key, natural charm. We look forward to visiting again and again. 10 May 2017 - 17:49:00

This vacation was the 28th my two adult daughters and I have taken for their birthdays. Each trip is different. We were in love with setting, the comfort, the art and the little touches so much that we ended up spending most of the time "at Home". The owners were one step ahead of seeing what was necessary to make the stay wonderful. The wildlife and view kept us at the windows. We thank you deeply from our hearts. The home is very comfortable with a warm, family feeling, with surrounding windows opening onto a peaceful and private scene. It was an easy trip into Point Reyes Station and to other hiking trails in the area. We would definitely stay here again. 11 November 2017 - 04:40:00

Our family of 4 has loved our stays at Helen's House. We immediately relax as we drop into the comfy couches and gaze out at the serene views. Our kids actually hope for rain so that we can stay snug indoors playing board games by the fire. The cabin was lovingly crafted with a huge, gorgeous stone fireplace; I believe it has been in the same family since it was built in the 1950's. The kitchen is a bit worn with what seem to be original cabinets and counters, but to us, that only adds to the charm of the cabin (we hope the owners don't remodel!). It is fully functional and well appointed. The gardens are lovely and well tended, attracting many birds. The property is special in that it is surrounded by parkland, and you can easily walk a short distance along the road to state park trailheads to hike down to Hearts Desire, Pebble, and Shell Beaches. 13 November 2017 - 17:03:00

Staying here is like a warm hug from a favorite relative. Everything about this home is comfortable, relaxing and delightful. The view is remarkable and you are close to all of West Marin's stellar attractions. Very rare in a rental home to have such comfortable beds and good knives - even oyster shuckers! Hog Island oysters a must when staying here. The Fairchilds are wonderful hosts and this is a place we will return to frequently. 19 November 2017 - 21:21:00

the perfect, comfortable house for 4 (or 5) with a huge fireplace, amazing views out giant picture windows, privacy, beautiful land, outdoor dining area, and two bathrooms! Area around is amazing with hikes and kayaking. We have come 3 times over the past ten years and are always totally delighted. 18 December 2017 - 17:22:00

The house has an absolutely fantastic view out toward Tomales Bay. There is a wonderful outdoor area. The location is outstanding. The kitchen was reasonably equipped (but absolutely no condiments) and some of the light fixtures didn't work (so we had to cook using a flashlight). However, I would definitely recommend the place to someone else. 18 April 2016 - 05:32:00

If we didn't live so far away we would definitely be returning often to this beautiful property. A gorgeous fireplace, incredible view, well kept garden, comfortable beds...we highly recommend it. 14 January 2018 - 08:39:00

This property is very close to all the adventures Point Reyes has to offer and yet, feels a million miles away. The picture windows in the master bedroom, living room and dining room make you feel as though you're living outside. We could not have asked for more. 18 January 2018 - 23:37:00

Cozy, comfortable, cabin-feel home, with views from each window, that bring the outside in, was the perfect nurturing spot for us. As you read the other reviews, there is a common thread, nature loving people, love Helen's House. It's location is secluded, with access to all that Point Reyes has to offer and includes looking through the trees to Tomales Bay. It's a special spot, we are all lucky that the owners are sharing it with us. 27 January 2018 - 02:13:00
