The apartment was certainly in a wonderful location. The proximity to subway , Central Park and restaurants and shops a few blocks away, was phenominal. The 3 star rating was because of the things mentioned in other reviews. The apartment was not very clean. I swept and washed floors and vacuumed when we arrived. There were some mouse droppings by the radiator in the bathroom and ants in the bathroom. To be fair, this is an old brownstone and the bathroom window could give these "critters" easy access. We did bring our own towels and I am glad we did because there were only 3 towels there. The bed was fine for us, we slept great, but sheets were very thin. Having said this, if the place were just cleaned up more and new linens and towels were provided, maybe some IKEA type furniture for sofa and table, this place could easily be 4 star. It really has charm and "good bones" . 06 May 2017 - 12:48:00
  2. Just returned from the stay here and it definitely lived up to my expectations. Considering the price - this is the best deal in NYC! The bed and the sofa bed were very comfy. I personally slept on the sofa bed and it had a great mattress on it. The neighborhood is quiet, the access to the subway could not be any more convenient, Central Park is just 1/2 block away, and great dining (I suggest Bella Luna) is only 1/2 block in the other direction. Everything you could want is within minimal walking distance of the apartment. The apartment is old, but clean, and has alot of character. Would highly recommend, and even plan on coming back again some time and staying the same place. 12 October 2012 - 14:46:01
  3. The owner was very friendly and accommodating. We were able to find free curbside parking, close by. The subway (orange line) was a five-minute walk and the red line was about 10 minutes away. Comfortable bed. Nice, warm shower with great water pressure! The only downside was a smelly hallway and the sagging stairway. Thanks for the memories! 15 October 2012 - 04:58:08
  4. the building is undergoing renovations & the room needed some. but you can enjoy the aura of a classic gone old. the townhouse now apartments is located 1/2 block from the C/B line which takes you to the heart of the city. as a native new yorker I was pleased with the area & accommodations for a great price! (there are stairs to deal with, no elevator) 10 December 2012 - 22:15:07

We loved our stay in this charming apartment. It's in an older building that's not perfect but it's perfect. It's quintessential New York. It's walking distance to Central Park, restaurants, cafe's, 7-11, Starbucks, etc. Plenty of room, nice size bathroom and lots of closet space. Dov was a breeze to deal with too. Can't thank him enough. 14 February 2013 - 16:28:00

Great location near the B&C metro which takes your just about everywhere. So quiet at night you can hear birds and nothing else. Loved 2b as only one floor walk up, it's an old unit with tons of character and very clean and spacious. Dov was helpful with even my dumb questions. Would definately stay again and the bed was very comfortable. Miss NYC already. 21 May 2013 - 23:18:45

I booked this place for my husband and I on a whim and it paid off! It's on a gorgeous street of walkups and the studio itself is roomy but cozy. It is old, but in good shape and beautiful. I was nervous when Dov mentioned he didn't "do contracts" for stays less than a month, but that proved to be no big deal. He honored the price listed, was flexible with our length of stay and was very attentive and friendly. The location is great and is within walking distance to some fabulous drop-in cafes and yummy, local restaurants as well as the center of Central Park and a subway station (with access to the main lines). Definitely for those who want more of a NYC residential experieince. Two minor negatives - the staircase from the 2nd the 3rd floor is as crazy-crooked as others have mentioned (although certificates from recent building inspections eased our nerves a bit). Also, the tub/shower could use an extra curtain as you don't get complete coverage from the existing one - it was drafty and water splashed on the floor quite a bit. TIP - a block west and a few blocks south there is a little market - grab some tissues, hand soap and some extra toilet paper. We didn't expect the room to be stocked like a hotel, but those basic ammenities were missing. 10 July 2013 - 21:13:20

The apartment is just as depicted in the photos and is clean and well-maintained. The owner is is very responsive and helpful. The location is great; the B, C subway is very close as is Central Park. There are numerous restaurants, cafes, delis, and coffee shops...just start walking and you'll easily find what you need! 29 July 2013 - 13:40:37

The apartment was big, clean and very well located walking distance to subway and bus. The neiborghood is really nice , quiet and safe surrended with restaurants, shops and just beside Central Park. We met Shula at checking in who is very gentle and helpful. I didnt rated 5 stars only because the apt and the building are age-old and needs maintenance like others in the block and it wil look great. 05 August 2013 - 03:13:34

. The apartment is as described. Room was exceptionally clean. The hallway and steps getting to third floor need fixing. The wall carvings and carved woodwork in the hall reminded me of the old Victoria Abby downtown. Subway end of street/taxis very easy to get. Safe neighborhood. Close to restaurants/drug store/ grocery. The only downsides to the rental are that the air conditioner is a little small for the large room/ the shower curtain only covers a portion of the shower area which makes for wiping up water after every shower a must. For some reason they do not supply wash cloths. We stayed for 14 nights and were well satisfied. Next time we go to the city, we will most likely stay here again. If we stay an extended visit again, we will take extra toilet paper/paper towels/wash cloths/ and a disposable shower curtain. The positives certainly out weigh the negatives and I would feel good about recommending it to any of my family and friends. 19 August 2013 - 20:32:29

I highly recommend this apartment. It was clean, spacious and comfortable. I usually stay in this area (excellent area I might add). The subway is a block away (A,B,C lines) which makes it very convenient to get around the city. I will stay here again. Troy 22 October 2013 - 23:25:36

This studio was just we needed. Everything was in order, clean, very well furnished. This was the first time I rent thru internet and I can say that it was a very good experience. Thank you Dove for your assistance in all what we needed. For sure, I will recommend it. THANKS!! 10 September 2014 - 14:43:55

Just spent 10 days there with a friend- sleeping on the bed and couch. So- possibly enough room for 3, if two slept in the bed. Kitchen was good for refrigerating left-overs and warming them. Nice big table to eat at or plan the day. Very quiet street, close to subway, buses and beautiful Central Park. Dov was quick to reply to messages and requests. I would have given more stars, if not for the leaning staircase, and getting the suitcases up the 2 flights. Was glad not to be on a higher floor. We read a previous review about "mince"- which we suspected meant mice. But we were careful to not leave food out and to keep food waste in the fridge until brought outside- so we didn't experience any problems with mice while there. Both of us felt we would stay there again. 08 October 2015 - 01:07:43

We stayed in the apartment for a week and enjoyed A few hours a day in the apartment. It was perfect for us and had everything that we needed. Wifi worked well. Kitchen was perfect for making easy dinners. Bed was very comfortable. We never heard/saw any neighbours and felt very safe. The apartment was clean and close to central park/whole foods and the subway. I will definitely go back to stay here, good value for money. Please note that the furniture is old/antique but it was in good shape, clean and very comfortable. In short, we enjoyed our stay!! 31 October 2017 - 01:49:00

The good: LOCATION- train station literally at the end of the block. Central Park entrance only 2 blocks in either direction. Great restaurants and stores close by. Decent internet connection and plenty of TV channels Comfortable sofa Storage galore in a huge bathroom. (Pocket door slides smoothe now) Plenty of hot water Kitchen is sufficiently supplied with dishes, pans, appliances, etc. (could use a few extra mugs/glasses and silverware) Only two flights of stairs. Note: Although the place is pet friendly, I wouldn't suggest bringing a medium sized or large dog with mobility issues. The stairs are steep and there are a lot of them. Others wrote about the second flight being slanted. It is, but I didn't feel unsafe. It's fine. Dov was responsive to issues that arose The bad: Bare bones. Bring supplies such as toilet paper, paper towels, garbage bags, dish soap, sponge, etc. Downstairs tenants smoked cigarettes non-stop. Smoke rises and we were so affected, we had to have the windows open at all times even though it was quite cold. (The boiler had to be fixed at one point, but again, Dov was on top of that) The water needs to be run for several minutes before it's clear. (Old building) The bed is hard as a rock. This is a con in my opinion, but may be good for some. Not the cleanest place I've ever stayed, but I saw no evidence of mice as someone else mentioned. Also, I always bring my own linens and towels when traveling and I suggest you do too. Overview: If not for the cigarette smoke, which is in no way is under Dov's control, I would stay again. This place has so much potential. As a decorator, I wanted to cry. Could be really beautiful! Again, location, location, location! 15 December 2016 - 15:29:00

We stayed 10 nights and it was not the cleanest place. I found some mouse poop on the first day and the holes in the window let bugs in so we received bites while sleeping. Bathroom door doesn't close properly. The location was wonderful and the room was spacious. Central Park is close and the subway is very close. I was stressed about being bitten by bugs while we slept so we didn't sleep well. I wouldn't recommend this place overall. 15 September 2016 - 03:09:00

15 September 2017 - 11:30:00

The location is perfect - a 1 minute walk to Central Park, 3 mins to the subway, 5 minutes to a good supermarket and restaurants, 20-30 minutes to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim, 30-40 min walk to Union Square and the Broadway theatres and the same again, but in the opposite direction, to the Gospel churches in Harlem. The apartment is in a street of brownstones; it's pretty and the street parking is free. The apartment itself has what we wanted for our family of four -a good TV, a good air conditioner, a proper dining table, a good stove and fridge & the sofa bed was big and comfy. There is an issue with the shower draining, but Dov was quick to fix it. We looked for a long time; I doubt you will find a better deal. 15 July 2017 - 13:36:00

This apartment is in a great residential part of the city close to Central Park and major buses and subways. However, the pillows were filthy, the furniture was wobbly, the kitchen had only one light bulb, most of the dishes were chipped or cracked, and there was only one roll of toilet paper in the bathroom. My wife kept complaining about her smelly hair, not realizing at first that it was the pillow. Enough said. From the same money, go to a neighborhood hotel. 09 July 2017 - 14:56:00
