About listing

On the ground floor of a house on a quiet cul-de-sac in a good, safe neighborhood in the geographical center of The City. Private entrance. The bedroom has a queen bed. The (larger) sitting room has a single bed, which looks sort of like a sofa, as well as a real sofa. Both rooms look out at the garden. Private bath with shower. WiFi. Wood floors. Excellent bus connections. Garage available: $15 a night.. Easy walk to Golden Gate Park. Easy walk to three foodie destinations: Arsicault (best croissants in the country); Arguello Market (best sandwich—turkey—in the city); Hong Kong Lounge II (dim sum as good as there). Also nearby: a classic diner, many coffee shops and restaurants, post office, pharmacy, banks, and FedEx. Warning: no TV; no stove (there is a microwave and mini-fridge and electric kettle). My theory is to give you good value on lodging so you can enjoy our very expensive city.

Stayed for 3 nights with my wife and daughter, we found it to be very comfortable. Nice and quiet, good neighbourhood. Very friendly owner, nice to talk to. Missed only a small fridge to keep my wine cool :-) Busses to almost every direction just a block away, pretty close to Haight Ashbury. Good restaurant recommendations by owner. Just watch for parking regulations (2 hour parking) or use the garage. 20 October 2015 - 19:50:05

My grandson (13) and I stayed at Howard's place for 4 nights. He is most accommodating, providing written suggestions for dining and transportation and thoughtful extras like power strips and Starbucks Via, and he proved to be immediately available to advise about how things work in the rental. Best of all, he has encyclopedic knowledge about San Francisco. The apartment doesn't have TV or a stove, but we found the microwave and bar fridge to be fine for us. We had no car, so we used either Uber or the bus to downtown that runs frequently along Geary about a block and a half away. The apartment itself is quiet, and it's tucked into a quiet cul-de-sac. It's great for the price, I recommend it, and I'd stay there again. 04 August 2016 - 18:27:10

Howard's lives just down the block from me, so when my nephew and his friend came for a visit, I thought Howard's place would be perfect. And it was. 13 March 2017 - 21:39:00

Upon our arrival, my boyfriend and I were immediately turned off as we had to walk through a dark garage to get to the suite. Once we got to the door, the glass window panes were covered in construction paper and tape - tape that was put there by a previous unsatisfied guest in attempts to feel safe and have privacy. You could clearly see around the edges of the paper into the room if you stood close to the door. Anyone could easily see into the bathroom window from outside and there were only sheer curtains and pull down shades barely covering the entire windows in the two bedrooms. The first evening we were there, we unpacked, got settled and noticed the suite door has a deadbolt lock - only accessible from the outside. Meaning at any point, we could be locked in with no escape other than the windows or the broken glass pane that was covered with paper and tape. The owner explained that the glass was like that just incase people "locked themselves out" as another traveler had done previously. Upon leaving that evening for dinner, we did not feel like our personal items were secure, seeing that there was no way for us to lock the door and have exclusive access. After returning from dinner, we could hear footsteps above us (where the owner resides) and down the creaky stairs leading to the suite. This situation was a little to close for comfort and we downright felt as if we were being watched. We immediately felt so uncomfortable that we left even though we already paid for a four night stay. After leaving, we contacted VRBO first and then the owner three times, leaving two voicemails over the next two days, none of which he responded to. The owner sent an email two days later asking if we had already checked out and claimed he didn't recieve the voicemails. Once we did speak with the owner, he was extremely condescending and had no desire to come up with a solution or some sort of compromise. If you decided to stay here and you can tolerate the creepiness of the place and owner, know that the floors are extremely loud and creaky (not just because it's a quiet location as owner previous mentioned in another review), the bed is hard as a rock/bowed and there is no way to secure yourself/your belongings. As for us, it was worth going to find a hotel last minute and at a higher rate that could provide ample privacy, safety and security. The price is the best thing about this place, however, even the low price wasn't enough for us to stay. 24 October 2015 - 04:42:04

My husband and I spent a week here on business and it was perfect for us! Very affordable, quiet, clean and Howard thinks of everything--great instructions on how to get around and where to find everything, etc. I can't think of any better value for San Francisco. The apartment was larger than the pictures made it look, the beds comfy and tons of towels, soap, toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, etc were provided. Even a hair dryer! As noted, it doesn't have a full kitchen, but the food prep area was more then sufficient, with microwave, small fridge, a small sink and cupboards to store food. And there are plenty of utensils, dishes, cups, etc. to prepare food. We walked to Trader Joe's every 2-3 days and picked up what we needed. Howard made us feel right at home! Also, the neighborhood is very walkable--just a few blocks form Golden Gate Park. Lots of restaurants, markets, etc. within a few blocks. Internet was fast enough for both my husband and me to work together while we were there. Highly recommend! 20 October 2017 - 04:36:00

The description is perfect, but we did not expect to be so close to Golden Gate park. That was a very pleasant surprise. The neighborhood is calm and bus transportation easy. 26 October 2017 - 15:34:00

I stayed here during a conference in SF, the stay was quiet, and easy. Howard left me clear instructions, and I had zero issues while there. Comfortable bed, clean bathroom, and close to downtown area were my requirements. All 3 were met. Thank you to Howard for an enjoyable stay. 14 November 2017 - 16:08:00

If youre looking for super fancy its not but we loved it. Who wants to spend your vacation inside when youre in San Francisco? Howard is extremely eager to make sure your stay is a good one. That counts for a lot. We will go back. 06 November 2017 - 00:54:00

Really good location and the apartment was suitable for the 3 of us. It is definitely the location that sells this apartment as it is a couple of mins walk to bus stops! The apartment itself is basic but has everything needed it's perfect for exploring the city. The only thing it needed was a blind in the bathroom! We felt very safe walking around the area late at night and would definitely recommend it to others! 09 October 2017 - 12:41:00

We (2 friends) stayed at this lovely apartment for 3 nights - perfect location, especially for walkers as us Quiet, clean, cozy... With an eye for important details such as extra duvets, plenty of towels, towels warmer, heaters for the room if required, a little map with tips of the area etc. Highly recommended 01 September 2017 - 14:45:00

Thanks for all, Howard. We enjoyd the quiet athmospere and the walkable distances to Golden Gate Park, bus station, restaurants and pubs. It was a perfect place for us 3 people who want to spend most of their time out and about exploring the city. It was also very convenient to park our car in the garage. We only saw Howard briefly but he was polite and helpful. Arriving/leaving was very easy and efficient and he responded quickly to all questions. 09 June 2017 - 08:02:00

My friends and I had a pleasant stay at this apartment. We liked the fact that many things were within walking distance of or a short car ride away from this apartment. 30 May 2017 - 05:32:00

This is a two room ground floor space. It was cold and a bit musty even though it was very clean. There is not a real kitchen but great location with lots of good restaurants in waking distance. Convenient to The park and transportation. 15 November 2017 - 23:49:00
