this really cute, tiny home is perfect for a weekend romantic getaway. I don't suggest bringing the kids, as there is little privacy. The amenities are good, clean, the hot tub is great, and the place is very private. Cooking must be planned as there is a microwave, toaster oven and hotplate. The only odd thing is the composting toilet.. very strange. The local towns are beautiful hippie-era haunts, with many surfers at the beaches. Local vists of the Pacific are wonderful, and wine country is 1 hour over the mountains. To the North are wonderful hiking trails, and nature walks. Worth the trip for a fun weekend. 04 October 2011 - 13:46:16

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon 2 years ago (for the first time), and have been there for my birthday and our anniversary every year since then...we live in San Francisco and really love this place. My husband almost didn't want me to write a review since we want to keep this place a secret! James is great about responding via email, the price is right and the privacy is excellent. The outdoor shower, hot tub and views (sunrise, sunset, the stars, even the rainy sky) and serene atmosphere make you just quiet down and relax. Love the fire pit and the outdoor swing... and you can't even see that the cabin there from the outside, can't get much more private than that. (As for the composting toilet, what a way to go green!) You can walk down the street for Ocean views, beaches are a quick drive, downtown (Smiley's, Coast Cafe, General Store and Bolinas Peoples market) is great and the whole area (way too much to name but there is a lot of nature to see, Bass Lake/ Palonmarin Trail and Limantour Beach are among my favorite spots, but there are a few beaches that are very close if you don't feel like driving far) is what city folk need to relax. The worst part is leaving...the best part is's like you never left. 04 December 2011 - 22:09:27

My wife and I have stayed twice at this special cottage in Bolinas (our favorite part of NorCal coast). The property invites hanging out and soaking up the quiet, the ocean air. Evenings around the fire are star-filled. Hitting the outdoor shower after a romp on the beach invigorates and wakes all the senses. The light in the morning makes lingering over breakfast especially fun and everything works. Owner always seemed responsive and easy to work with. 25 January 2012 - 15:13:02

Such a relaxing weekend! We loved the huge yard and deck. Hung out in the hot tub and looked at the can see so many it's amazing! Had a good meal in town just a short drive away and walked the beach. Great hike out to Bass lake. Cozy bed with tons of natural light all through the space and a beautiful claw foot tub hand painted by a local artist. The owner, James, was helpful and easy to communicate with about our reservation and gave us some good suggestions for our stay. This is just what we needed! 26 January 2012 - 16:39:30

Staying at James' cabin was a truly wonderful experience. The care he put into it was obvious the minute you walked in. Clean and peaceful, the interior of the cabin is spacious but cozy at the same time. In the course of three days, I picked three different comfortable spots inside the cabin to sit and drink coffee and read. The bed was so incredibly comfortable, and the garden outside the big picture window beside the bed is simply word class. James was an excellent, responsive host who was accomodating, thoughtful and engaged. Bolinas is one of the quietest, most gorgeous little jewels of a town I have ever stayed in - and a large part of my extraordinary vacation was the opportunity to stay in this wonderful little cabin in the woods. I would go back in a second. 31 March 2013 - 09:28:09

This cabin is magical and perfect. Me, my father and some friends stayed here over a long weekend while we made some improvements to my own nearby Bolinas lot. The hot showers provided by the cabin where necessary and welcome. The hot water never stopped flowing thanks to a nifety instant hot water heater. The cabin was warmed by sunlight and cozy; it was artful and obviously loved. It has every amenity you need. The beds are comfortable in their picturesque nooks. It's s a wonderful hide-out for slowing down and relaxing. As a visitor it's a place to be cherished. 17 June 2013 - 05:32:36

I'm hesitant to say how much I LOVED this place for fear it is never going to be available. However, it would be rude to not say how perfect this cottage is. James has put so much love into building this retreat and the fact that he shares it with others is an absolute blessing. This is the perfect getaway to do just that....get away. Absolutely beautiful inside and out. You can sleep in comfort in the bed, warm your bones in the hot tub or make a fire in the outdoor fire pit and gaze up at the stars. This place is made for 1-3 people to enjoy...more than that and you would be on top of each other. I could seriously go on and on and on. There is nothing I would change about this cottage and I will dream about going back again! 22 January 2014 - 17:39:44

This secluded gem is exactly what we were looking for. The craftsmanship on this cottage is stunning. A lot of love went into it and we felt very grateful to have borrowed it for a few days. Can't wait to go back! 09 July 2014 - 02:11:58

My Fiance and I stayed in this adorable cabin over the Thanksgiving weekend. It was WONDERFUL. The home is clean , cheerful and had a well stocked kitchen. It is extremely quiet and private. There is beach access close by and the town of Bolinas about 5 minutes away. We loved our stay and look forward to visiting this little slice of heaven again. 21 January 2015 - 00:06:08

A friend and I spent a relaxing week at this property in June 2015. For us it was the best rest and relaxation any doctor could possibly order. We had one concern/confusion, and a quick phone call later, the owner had it resolved and clarified. He is very responsive. The take an item/leave an item pantry is a wonderful idea. You'll need to adopt a European style of living for your kitchen activities, which I enjoy and prefer, but others may need to consider. The reason is the refrigerator is small, but this is the only drawback, and I found I was able to easily adapt. The town of Bolinas is delightful and there are many rural roads/trails for hiking and exercising. The care the owner took and placed when he built this lovely cottage is easy to see in the detailed workmanship found throughout. Do pay mind to the short, but easily understood, list of instructions he has left. This is an environmentally friendly cottage, and this list helps you understand and work with its environmentally friendly qualities. I would highly recommend this property and would gladly stay there again. I look forward to coming back someday and enjoying a cocktail in the hot tub as I look up at the stars. 01 July 2015 - 05:10:53

We had an amazing time visiting the cottage in Bolinas. The cottage is extremely private and beautifully decorated. When we first walked through the gate we were greeted by a couple of deer that werent bothered by us at all. We enjoyed the fireplace, the hot tub and outdoor shower. Our 4 year old loved the claw foot tub and the little nook in the kitchen. The bed was very comfortable. Our first experience with a compost toilet was a pleasant surprise! I didnt know what to expect and we had no issues with it at all. Although we didnt use them, there was an xbox and a good collection of movies available for us to watch. We didnt get a chance to use the grill or the fire pit because of the weather. A couple of things to consider if you plan to stay here: As others mentioned, you may want to consider doing your grocery shopping in Mill Valley because the grocery store in Bolinas is very small and closes early. The cottage only has a small refrigerator, so we brought our cooler to keep drinks in outside. We got a lot of rain while we were there and we had a small ant problem and lost some of our food (the house was very clean, but I understand that with rain ants happen). I would be more careful to put everything in zip lock bags. The only small issue we had with the house itself is that the yard was very over grown with prickly dandelions. We had our dachshund with us and she couldn't go out there. We really enjoyed ourselves and hope we get a chance to come back soon. 23 April 2017 - 18:12:00

This sweet small cottage was the perfect hideaway! So snug and private and quiet, we never saw another person around while we were there. The bed was comfortable. The cottage was light and pretty and had everything we needed for our 4 night stay. We used both the indoor and outdoor showers, and the outdoors one made it feel like Hawaii. Short drive down to the beach or town (about a mile and a quarter). We loved the whole experience! 18 July 2016 - 19:24:21

We spent two wonderful nights at the cottage. The hot tub was a nice addition. After hiking for the day, it was very enjoyable to sit in the hot tub. This place was exactly what we wanted to relax and enjoy our break. The gas stove heater was awesome. It made it feel like a nice comfy cabin on a cold night. We also took advantage of the DVD selection and picked out 2 movies we had not seen. Definitely we will return when we come to the area. 22 December 2017 - 01:24:00

Bolinas is a cute, quaint little town. The beach there is just so-so (if it's high tide, there won't be one), but Stinson beach pretty close by too. We had a great dinner in town at The Coast Cafe, and did a spectacular hike nearby on the Palomarin trail to Alamere Falls. The cottage is in a great location, very nicely decorated, and comfortable- we loved the gas fireplace! Decent DVD collection, wi-fi seemed fine, and had a stereo. Only thing was no dish towels or paper towels in the kitchen or hand towels and washclothes in the bathroom. Made handwashing your dishes tricky. Plenty of cups and plates which was nice. No lawn like in the picture- had a ground cover which was nice to look at but probably kids won't be playing out on it. Could be good for 2 kids- as long as one is old enough to sleep in a high loft with a low rail. 05 December 2017 - 18:47:00

Our daughter lives in Bolinas in a tiny home, so there is no room for her father and I when we come to visit, and very few options in the area. This trip was our first experience with VRBO and we are hooked. Especially on this gem of a cabin. Very private with a lovely yard, fire pit, plenty of places to sit and hang out. Beautifully sited with all day sun. The bed was very comfortable. We stayed for four nights through Christmas and the only issue was that it was a bit chilly when we arrived. James responded to our call right away and the propane fireplace in the kitchen heated up the space nicely. The kitchen worked well, had everything we needed. A great location to unwind with great walking options, quiet roads, fields, beach and Mt. Tam. We had a lovely stay and can't wait to return! Thank you, James, for your lovely place. 29 December 2016 - 21:49:41

The getaway was private, quiet and super cool. I had such a good time unwinding doing nothing but sunbathing and streaming "stranger things" on my tablet. Two things I would do differently next time: 1) make sure the hot tub was cleaned before we agreed to book--when we were there, the vinyl was a bit slimy; we own a soft tub ourselves so we knew it shouldn't be that way and ended up not using it 2) bring all my groceries. I didn't know bolinas has like 2 grocery stores that closed early. Since I live in the bay area anyway, I could have easily brought all my own groceries. This place's fire pit and grill made cooking something I would try to do more of next time. Definitely recommended-- the yard was so big and interesting I wanted a dog just so they could run around! 22 January 2017 - 07:21:00

We had a wonderful quiet weekend at the cottage! It's cozy & comfortable, with a great selection of DVDs. It's a bit of a walk to get to town, but the scenery along the way is beautiful. 17 January 2018 - 00:09:00
