About listing

Base your vacation from OLDE POSTE COTTAGE -- site of Cascade's old post office in the heart of historic Cascade, at the foot of the Pike's Peak Highway. This Victorian cottage, restored and furnished to reflect its genteel past, will return you to an earlier time in Cascade's history when folks came up Ute Pass to vacation among the mountain Ponderosa, away from the bussle of city life. The livingroom walls display prints and photos of Cascade and Olde Poste Cottage from the Ute Pass Historical Society, as well as chronicling the drama of the American Post from the Revolution, through the exciting Pony Express, to the color and charm of the stamps and postcards found in today's U.S. Post Office. The cottage's bedrooms are lovingly decorated to make you feel welcome and comfortable. Perfect for four adults and up to three kids, or three couples, this historical Victorian cottage will be your headquarters for both summer and winter activities in the Manitou/Colorado Springs and the Pike's Peak region. (see the AREA ACTIVITIES' button on our Happy Trails webpage for great links and discount coupons). The Cottage is completely furnished with everything you need to be comfortable on your vacation. You'll want to return again and again! LINK TO COTTAGE'S OWN WEB PAGE, 'Olde Poste Cottage information', AT BOTTOM) GUEST COMMENTS SAY IT ALL: 'Everything was so wonderful. We had a great time over Parent's Weekend (our son is in his third year at the Air Force Academy). The memories and pictures of lovely late summer in Colorado will be cherished ones.' Ft Wayne, IN 'What a great place for a Christmas Vacation. Can't find a better location; we were never in the car too long on our way to touristy stuff. Thanks for providing a wonderful place for our family to make memories in.' Wegers, Magallons & Brantleys - TX & FL “We had an AWESOME time on our vacation! The cottage was a perfect home-away-from-home. The location here is excellent and the owners were very helpful (yes, we tried the hike at Crags!) and attentive. We grilled out twice during our stay and enjoyed meals at “home” each night of our stay. We loved the attractions too – Garden of the Gods, Cliff Dwellings, Cave of the Winds, Cog Railway, Seven Falls. Also went horseback riding and whitewater rafting with Noah’s Ark in Buena Vista, and saw Royal Gorge and Molly Kathleen Mine in Cripple Creek. Thank you for a wonderful vacation!!” Matt & Martha Cummings & Family – Memphis, TN Keywords: House, cottage

There were 7 of us and we loved our stay at the Olde Poste in Cascade. It is very close to The North Pole, Pikes Peak, Cave of the Winds and Downtown Manitou Springs. The owners provided everything that we needed. It was wonderful having a washer and dryer and being able to cook a meal. We will definitely stay here again! 06 August 2017 - 22:21:00

We wanted to take our 5 young adult children for a quick getaway before they all get back to college - this cottage was perfect for us. Your hospitality was amazing! Can't say thank you enough for this property being available for us to use, we don't like staying in hotels, and our kids loved the feeling of being at 'home' after a day out on the trails. Thanks again for helping us make some memories with our family! 08 August 2017 - 02:13:00

Our son is a doolie at the US Air Force Academy, and this was our first Parent's Weekend. We were able to be with our son over 5 days, including 3 days where he could leave campus and stay with us. My mother joined us for the trip, so we knew we wanted something much different than a couple of hotel bedrooms. We wanted to be able to be together, yet allow our son time to go off on his own. As a doolie, he would need to get in full dress uniform to go out, so we knew we wanted to mostly stay in. The house was perfect for this, with a small but functional kitchen, a small dining table in the living space with a couch and chair and TV. We played cards, we read books, and we even watched several Harry Potter movies much to the delight of our son. The 3 separate bedrooms allowed our son to chill by himself when he needed, and yet join us when he wanted to be part of the family. The small washer/dryer combination came in handy as it allowed us to wash all his clothes, something that is not easy for a doolie. The house is an easy 35 minute drive to the USAFA campus, and only 15 minutes from the heart of Colorado Springs. It is in a beautiful setting with mountain views in all directions. It is right off the highway, so the road noise is very noticeable. But we weren't bothered by that much, and were able to leave the front door open frequently without any issue. The house is in good repair for something more than 100 years old. The WiFi is fast enough to stream movies. The furnishings are eclectic but functional and comfortable. Overall, we truly enjoyed our stay and it was exactly right for our purposes. 06 September 2017 - 17:27:00

We stayed at the Olde Poste in summer of 2009. The cottage was the perfect home-away-from-home for our family of 6. The location was excellent and the owners were very helpful and attentive. Cottage was clean and well cared-for. We grilled out twice during our stay and enjoyed meals at "home" each night of our stay. We loved the attractions too -- Garden of the Gods, Cliff Dwellings, Cave of the Winds, Cog Railway, Seven Falls. Also went horseback riding and whitewater rafting in Buena Vista, and saw Royal Gorge and Molly Kathleen Mine in Cripple Creek. 09 April 2010 - 03:29:06

Our family created a lot of memorable times while staying at Olde Poste. The house wasn't too fancy, but was very functional and practical....just what we needed. There is some yard place for our children to play and the twin bunk beds were a hit highlight as well for them. Apart from some traffic noise, the location was ideal and very close to all kinds of sights. Pikes Peak road is literally a stone's throw away, Garden of the gods a few minutes, Manitou Springs, Seven Falls, and on an on. The house was very clean on our arrival and the owners very pleasant and professional to deal with. This was our first experience with a vrbo and it was a very positive one. 15 July 2010 - 16:28:38

We stayed in the Olde Poste for 2 months while working in Colorado. We were very pleased with our stay there from the awesome location to the decorations. It had a kitchen, fully furnished for cooking any meal, and a back deck with a grill and picnic table for eating in the great outdoors. We enjoyed watching the deer that would come into the yard about 3 nights every week to graze just before sundown. It was a terrific location that seemed miles away but took less than 10 minutes to make it to Colorado Springs. There was also something so comforting about this cabin that we slept better here than anywhere else we have ever been, 2 months and not one bad night of sleep. Overall a fantastic place. My family enjoyed our stay at the Olde Poste. What a welcoming and relaxing place to stay, close enough to the Academy to make travel quick and easy, but just far enough away to provide a relaxing place to unwind and rest. If you like to get away this is the place for you, clean, comfortable beds, kitchen to cook in, and deer that stop by out the front window for viewing entertainment. Thank you so much for making our time in Colorado Springs so memorable. 16 June 2011 - 14:06:37

I was able to stay at the Olde Post Cottage for an extended period of time. In our party, there were four adults and no children. The Cottage was incredibly comfortable! George and Lynn have furnished this vacation home perfectly! We had everything we needed, including anything we could possibly need in the kitchen. Right across the highway, there is a restaurant with great food! You are 10 minutes from downtown Colorado Springs, and 10 minutes from just about any hike your heart desires :) I would definitely recommend the Olde Post to anyone who is looking for a comfortable place to hang out with family or friends. Thanks George and Lynn! 01 May 2012 - 03:04:21

The Olde Poste cottage is cute, cozy and has everything you need away from home. Whether you want to cook a meal in the fully stocked kitchen or bbq off the deck you will have all the necessities. The rooms are comfortable and it was extremely convenient to have a washer and dryer in the home. The property was clean and well taken care of. Great location for outdoor activities, nearby hiking trails and fishing close by. I enjoyed my stay and would highly recommend staying at the Olde Poste. 31 May 2012 - 19:08:25

The location is great, just off the scenic highway coming from Colorado Springs/Manitou Springs to Woodland Park. The kitchen is modern and had everything we needed to make meals, and we were glad to have the washer and dryer unit after a somewhat muddy hike. The third bedroom is definitely designed more as a kids room, but the three of us were very comfortable and happy for the privacy. The list of local attractions provided on the landlord's website was very helpful in planning our stay too. The WiFi never gave us any problems either, which was important to us. Our only complaint is something that is outside the landlord's control: the previous guests had smoked indoors. This is in clear violation of the house rules listed online and on a sheet in the cottage. The landlord did what he could to rectify the problem, providing an air filter and eventually a second. Unfortunately, even with the filters, it wasn't until the third day of our trip that the cigarette stench had dissipated enough for us to enjoy time indoors. We can't blame the landlord for people not following the rules, but it was very disappointing to be greeted by the smell when we walked in, and the second hand smoke left all of us with headaches and congestion the first night. If it weren't for the rudeness of the previous guests, it would have been the perfect getaway. 11 June 2015 - 20:56:18

Some things to be pointed out if you are looking to rent this cottage for your vacation: -it is right in front of a busy road. Cars are on it at all hours and it's easy to hear them. -there are lots of loud animal noises at night. Banging, dragging, those types of noises. They sound like they come from inside, but it's not. You will never be able to catch the little rascals, either. -This is a very old cottage. Vents are on the floor! Now that that's out of the way, some really cool/great things about this cottage: -The view of the mountains from the cottage is AMAZING. -lots of things to do around there -has literally everything a normal house would and all appliances work like expected -the owners are very professional and nice! This is important! We will be back to rent from Happy Trail Rentals again. 05 July 2015 - 19:58:32

This little house was a great place for our vacation. We were able to stay close to a lot of the attractions. The house was as described except we thought it was more secluded. It is right off the highway which turned out to be a great thing. Having a washer/dryer was a bonus-less laundry to do when got home. The cottage is well stocked with all the essentials of home and wi-fi for my teenagers. We had a blast in Colorado. 06 July 2015 - 02:33:11

Found this place on a whim after our original hotel booking was placed in another state. I believe it was fate to discover this place. Couldn't have asked for anything more. Great location centered around everything we had planned on doing. Accommodated our family of eight and furnished with all you really need. Thanks for making our first trip to Colorado a memorable one! 14 July 2015 - 15:19:23

This is an EXCELLENT location if your looking to do things in the Colorado Springs area; many major attractions are only minutes away. This is more of an outside of town/almost suburban location, but Cascade has much of what you may need (e.g. has a couple restaurants, ice cream store, etc.) Cascade is also fairly close to a couple of Walmart's and other big name stores for those last minute items. The Olde Poste is near highway 24, which provides excellent access for getting around, but is accompanied by some traffic noise--but it's not that bad; we had no issues with noise. If your interested in horseback riding, we highly recommend BBB Ranch in Woodland Park, a short scenic drive west; the trails lead you through beautiful National Forrest areas; our guide Matt was excellent. Be sure to visit Garden of the gods, a city park (free admission) which has beautiful scenery and nice hikes; be sure to stop by the Visitor Center (thanks for the tip George!) Olde Poste met all of our needs and was comfortable; a good fit and much better than a hotel. Great communication between us and owner George Wood. George was also very helpful in providing recommendations for the best places to visit; be sure to visit his website for things to do. Mr. Wood also checked on us a couple of times during our week-long stay...that was a first for us...in that the owner was interested in making sure we were comfortable!! Will come back the next time we are in the Colorado Springs area! Thank you George, may God continue to Bless You!. 27 July 2015 - 16:10:27

We travel so many different places as a family of a competitive figure skater. We so enjoyed not having to stay in a hotel during our time here at a training camp. It was nice to be able to prepare our own meals, have room to just stretch out and relax. We enjoyed also being close to wonderful attractions: Garden of the Gods, the Cog railroad, the US Olympic Training Center. The view of the mountains is simply breathtaking! George was a pleasure to meet and chat with! Thank you for giving a 2022 Olympic hopeful a place to relax after long days of training! 12 August 2016 - 21:24:52

We found our stay in cascade ranger station and the old poste to be very relaxing and cozy. Truly just like going to grandparents house. Everything was clean in its place and waiting for us at check in. Even nice little extras like soaps etc. The owners were very friendly and accommodating. We had easy access off of highway and was a good location for exploring manitou springs, pikes peak, garden of the gods, and beautiful drives up the mountain. Would recommend to anyone who is going to Colorado Springs area. GREAT bargain! 01 January 2017 - 14:21:31

We loved staying at this historic home. It had adorable furnishings, just like a grandmother's house. Everything there made our stay comfortable. The location was ideal, close to both Colorado Springs and the mountains past Woodlands Park. 03 January 2018 - 01:53:00
