About listing

Alameda, City Of Homes And Beaches This ground level flat in a Victorian duplex is located in the island city of Alameda which may be the best kept secret in the East Bay. Ideally located just a Bay Bridge ride away from San Francisco, it provides relative peace and quiet in an island setting. Things To See And Do Downtown Alameda is like Alameda's version of Oakland/Berkeley's Gourmet Ghetto. The restored Alameda Theater has 8 screens. Explore Spirits Alley at Alameda Point, and choose among wine/vodka/beer tastings. Sunset Magazine has named Alameda as being one of the best locations for kite and wind surfing. And beginners can take lessons at the Crown Memorial State Beach with a fabulous view of San Francisco. Since this is an island, it’s no surprise that there are 9 marinas and yacht clubs. Alameda is also home to Barnhill Marina where one can admire the colorful floating homes right on the Estuary, across from Oakland. The aircraft carrier USS Hornet, a museum ship, has been moored at the former Naval Air Station as the USS HornetMuseum since 1998. This ship was originally named the USS Kearsarge, but was renamed in honor of the previous Hornet CV-8 (famous for the Doolittle raid), which was lost in October 1942. For fun, check out the Pinball Museum. For a glimpse at the history of Alameda, stop by the Alameda Museum. Or tour historic Victorian home Meyers Home and Garden. Ride a bike, or walk around the main island. According to Alameda Magazine, there are about 3,000 Victorian-era homes in Alameda, one for every 25 people who live here. In addition, there are another 1,000 historic buildings, including City Hall and many of the shops along the Park Street and Webster Street commercial corridors. Alameda is also known for its Fourth of July parade, which is advertised as the second oldest and second longest Fourth of July parade in the United States.[37] It features homemade floats, classic cars, motorized living room furniture, fire-breathing dragons, marching bands, and large crowds. The parade route is about 3 miles (5 km) long. The city restored the historic Art Deco city landmark Alameda Theatre, expanding it to include a theater multiplex consisting of 8 screens. A nice feature: go to Cinema Grill next door, buy your tickets, order your food and drinks (yes, wine and other liquor too!), take it inside the theater via a not-so-secret entrance. Street Festivals are enjoyed throughout the year. Park Street hosts the Park Street Spring Festival, Park St Art and Wine Faire and the Park Street Classic Car Show. And Webster St hosts the Peanut Butter and Jam Festival (Yes, Skippy’s peanut butter was born in Alameda). In the summer, the city enjoys a series of outdoor monthly concerts at Crab Cove, just a short walk from Crown Beach. Concert goers pack a picnic, lay their spread on the grass across the stage, enjoy good music under clear skies. Food, wine and beer also available for sale. Commuting to the city a mere 13 miles away is a breeze: ride the express bus (bus stop is just two blocks away), or the ferry where one can even bring a bike. YOUR HOME AWAY FROM HOME This is a light-filled lower unit of a duplex across from Littlejohn Park in Central Alameda. This home is located on a fairly large and fenced in yard with many flowers and fruit trees. Pick lemons year round. Figs are nearly ready while the avocados are expected in the Fall. The plum tree practically rained plums this summer. Spend time in the patio --- play with the owners' dogs, or your small dog if you want to bring yours with you. Open plan makes this place bright, airy and feel more spacious. Tiled floors in the living/dining areas, kitchen and bath; and laminate floors in the bedrooms. Solid floors and wood blinds mean cleaning is a cinch --- a plus for people with allergies or an aversion to dirt hidden in rugs and draperies. For those with limited mobility, there is only one step down to get to this one-level unit. And there are safety bars in the bath tub/shower. One step up to the laundry room, and then step out to the patio and the yard. Alameda's temperate climate means there's no need for air-conditioning; but on those warm days where a little more cooling is needed, ceiling fans perform their magic. Fully equipped kitchen include gas 4-burner stove/oven, dishwasher, refrigerator. There is a washer and dryer dedicated for the tenant's use in the laundry room. Feel free to relax in the patio overlooking the garden. if you plan to bring a dog (small dog only), your dog will delight in the spacious and fenced yard. Owners' dogs love small dogs! And so do the owners. You will love walking around the neighborhood. There are so many magnificent vintage homes on tree-lined streets. Several small parks dot the island. Bike safety is paramount. And if you drive, note that the speed limit is 25 mph everywhere. The owners live upstairs, so you will always have a resource for information, repairs, replacement. We will even lend you our bike(s) so that you can explore this wonderful island town.

The apartment was great. We were welcomed with a clean, bright apartment with a full kitchen, washer and dryer, and even slippers and local Alameda Rock Wall Chardonnay! Prettt garden in the back with citrus trees. Bathroom is huge and nice subway tiles. We really like this place and will be back. Only suggestion would have to replace the mattress in the master bedroom as it droops in the left side. Also would be nice to have a real mattress in the 2nd bedroom instead of blow up mattress. 22 February 2017 - 23:45:00

It's a lovely 2-bedroom apartment! Gary and Pacita are wonderful. The place is SPOTLESS and the kitchen is very well stocked if you plan on cooking. My brother and his partner stayed with us and Gary told him to pick lemons or tomatoes or anything else they needed from the garden. It's just like home. 02 September 2017 - 19:46:00

My husband, mother, and I recently stayed at Pacita's and Gary's lovely home. We thoroughly enjoyed it and found it very comfortable. The space was clean and had plenty of room for the three of us. Pacita included special amenities in the bath and kitchen that made us feel very welcome. The backyard is a treat for the senses, and we enjoyed fresh tomatoes and lemons. We had fun with Joey and Ginger, too. The location in Alameda is very convenient, but we felt a world away from the city when we were there. Pacita and Gary are great hosts, and we would happily stay with them again. 02 September 2017 - 19:31:00

The owners have thought of every little detail you would need. We stayed 4 nights while seeing the sights in San Francisco. Would highly recommend. Had laundry facilities and easy street parking, due to the park across the street. Easy access to San Francisco via the Alameda Ferry. 16 August 2017 - 19:29:00

Our stay at Pacita's and Gary's VRBO was absolutely wonderful. The quaint apartment was everything we hoped for. Fully stocked and clean. When the weather was hot it remained cool in the apartment. The garden was exceptional! We really enjoyed sitting out in the back and having the company of Ginger and Joey (canine companions of Gary and Pacitia). The two dogs really helped me from missing my dear companion at home. The ferry to San Francisco was near by which really helped. We really hope that one day we will be able to travel back to Alameda and San Francisco. 10 August 2017 - 18:42:00

Pacita is the warmest host and has gone to so much trouble to ensure we had a perfect stay. The house is beautiful with very amenity and more than you could ask for. She and Gary are friendly and so helpful with recommendations for a happy stay. The dogs were fun and the whole place is just such a friendly base from which to explore San Fransisco. 16 July 2017 - 05:18:00

Every thing was perfect! We especially loved having a home with two dogs to come home to each night :) The house was clean and had everything we needed for our family of 4 to enjoy 6 days in and around San Francisco. While it was quite a commute a couple of days, the hospitality, the adorable dogs, and the incredible garden made everything worthwhile. The hosts were extremely helpful, with lots of good advice, and we loved having a drink on the patio with Gary and hearing about the wonderful and interesting life he and Pacita have lived. There really wasn't anything that we needed or wanted that wasn't providedd. There are lots of grocery stores and restaurants nearby, and we recommend Jims coffee shop for breakfast, it was delicious! Thank you for our relaxing, perfect vacation! 10 June 2017 - 01:04:00

Gary and Pacita were kind and helpful in every way and had a beautiful home. They offered great suggestions for local dinner places, as well as friendly chats in their lovely backyard garden oasis. The place itself was in pristine condition, and everything was very well labelled so it was all very easy to understand. Our every need was anticipated, from coffee to bedroom slippers to high end toiletries throughout. The area is quite nice, and a good option if you want to avoid the hustle of the city. We went in daily by car and found that in non rush hour traffic it was a short jaunt. Would definitely visit again, and completely recommend staying here! 09 September 2017 - 16:21:00

A perfect home away from home. We were greeted by Pacita (the owner) who had stayed up to make sure we got in. She also had left snacks and a bottle of wine for us. Not a detail was spared. Wonderful quiet neighborhood away from all the hubbub of the city - but only a hop, skip, and jump over to the city via the ferry. We walked everywhere but there were buses available for those who weren't up for a 2.5 mile walk to the ferry. Would definitely stay again if we pop back to that area again. 19 September 2017 - 19:41:00

My daughter, dog, and I had a fabulous stay. I'll speak first to the unit. It was clean, spacious, and welcoming. We felt comfortable sleeping in the beds, cooking in the kitchen, utilizing the restroom, and eating there. These are creature comforts that we often take for granted at home. There was no real period of adjustment or "getting comfortable" in an unfamiliar space. It felt like home. Pacita, Gary, Joey, and Ginger are what made our stay outstanding. Pacita and Gary are warm, welcoming people. It almost felt like we were staying with family. We spent a lot of time sitting in the backyard with them, talking and laughing. I am an introvert in the truest sense, and it is not my normal countenance, to sit and chat with people I've just met. I did not, however, feel awkward or uncomfortable with Pacita and Gary at all, quite the opposite in fact. I enjoyed spending time with them, and looked forward to sitting in the sun together. Ginger and Joey were great fun as well. My dog is an "only dog", so having been able to spend a month living with other dogs was invaluable. Ginger was the perfect playmate for my little guy, and Joey was such a calming force. We'd leave the back door open, and Joey would amble downstairs and sit by my feet for a good head rub. :-) Our dog even managed to get Joey to play, once! Again, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. You will too! 03 October 2016 - 16:09:54

Pacita and Gary were such great hosts. They really went out if their way to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. When they learned how much we loved to grill, they replaced their older grill with a brand new one! The unit was very well equipped. The backyard was full of flowers and fruit trees and even an avocado tree. Our hosts generously allowed us to sample all of them which we did on a daily basis. We were taking care of our grandson, so the nice playground across the street was big plus. All in all, a great stay! 24 May 2017 - 23:55:00

First time to stay here and definitely won't be our last! In fact, we're already booked in 2018. Pacita and Gary are wonderful hosts and take great care to see that their rental is fully equipped and comfortable for their guests. The apartment is spacious with a large kitchen, bath and two comfortable bedrooms. Their fully fenced back yard is a treat if you bring your dog or just sitting on the patio enjoying their garden. We couldn't have been happier with our stay! Alameda is a perfect location away from the congestion of Oakland - lots of great restaurants, walkable and charming. Parking very close to the apartment was never a problem - right across the street from a park. You won't be disappointed with this vacation rental - it's a winner all the way around! 29 November 2017 - 15:43:00

We've stayed with Pacita and Gary before - they're lovely, friendly people. The apartment is lovely, very clean, with a well stocked kitchen and they've paid attention to details like having new flipflops in the bathroom. Wonderful place and hosts! 26 November 2017 - 19:25:00

This ground-floor apartment is well equipped with all mod cons. The beds are comfortable and the furnishings modern and serviceable. The owners, who live above the apartment, are welcoming and accessible. We give this the highest marks. 12 January 2018 - 01:20:00
