About listing

This quaint and private guesthouse at the rear of a large lot in Sonoma's lovely Eastside is a private wooded retreat walking distance to the historic Sonoma Plaza. It is perfect for couples or small families, and we are pet friendly! Only 45 minutes north of San Francisco, historic Sonoma Valley is one of California's oldest towns, as well as the birthplace of the California wine industry. The historic and scenic town plaza, complete with duck ponds, play grounds, and weekly farmer's markets, offers an array of dining and shopping options. The valley is within 10 miles of more than 30 wineries and home to a number of historic sites, including the northernmost of California's famous missions, General Vallejo's home, and Jack London's homestead. Sonoma is thought of as the more 'laid-back' wine country, and its welcoming attitude and world-class amenities make a very special place indeed. The cozy guesthouse, with a dark wood exterior and light interior, is situated in private wooded setting. It is 120+ yards off the already quiet residential street and is separated and blocked from view of the main house by mature trees and a free standing outbuilding. It has two bedrooms (two queens), plus a very comfy queen sofa bed, one full and one half bath, and is furnished as a 'modern cottage'. There is a full kitchen, a dining room table that could seat six, as well as back deck for outdoor dining. It is pet friendly and has a (low) fenced back yard. There is central heating, window unit A/C, TV with limited cable, WiFi, and an iPod-ready stereo. Please note that the cottage is located in a quiet residential neighborhood, and we live in another house on the same property. Please respect our neighbors and NO PARTIES. As well, outside noise is to be kept at a minimum after 9.00pm. The cottage is maxed out at four people. Refundable damage deposit required. Signed rental contract and the aforementioned damage deposit required to hold dates. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage! It was perfectly located and very well appointed with a lot of personal touches. Very charming Sonoma style ambiance! 21 May 2014 - 17:42:39

After years of contemplating it, my wife and I finally took the plunge to spend a month working and living away from home and rented this wonderful cottage. The bar for future rentals has now been set very high! The cottage is just the right size, is airy and cozy at the same time, the kitchen is perfectly equipped, everything is clean, and it's set back away from the street so it's very private. The back porch was perfect for evening dinners, and there is even an on-premise washer and dryer. There was even a plum tree - we couldn't eat the ripe plums fast enough! Additionally, we were an easy walk to Sonoma Square, which we did nearly every day for morning coffee and other activities. And speaking of Sonoma, if you like great food, great wine, beautiful scenery, and friendly people, this town is for you! We will be back - thank you for a dreamlike month! 01 October 2016 - 20:13:10

I love the cottage! This was my second time to stay and I will be back. The cottage is charming in a lovely, historic area of Sonoma. It is comfortable and very private in a garden setting. A perfect walk to the downtown square, a few blocks of easy walking. And you can easily drive to Napa or any wine country site. In addition, all of the East Bay and San Francisco are accessible. The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable and fun visit. 01 June 2017 - 03:07:00

I could not have chosen a more perfect place to spend a month in Sonoma. Peaceful and private yet close enough to not feel at all isolated. I hope to return! 11 September 2017 - 15:13:00

My husband and I stayed at this cottage recently for a long weekend getaway. The cottage was actually nicer than the photos! We've stayed at a lot of vacation rentals, so it's always the extras that stand out. First of all, the kitchen was thoughtfully equipped with some baking supplies like a measuring cup, mixing bowls, and cake pan along with your standard pots and plates. The fact that the knives were sharp were also a big plus! We were able to prepare a few meals without any problems. The property also had a very private backyard with patio furniture, which was great for relaxing and eating. The furniture was all very comfortable and the bed and linens were of high quality. We didn't need to use the air conditioning because the front and back screen doors let in a nice breeze. The cottage is located quite close to the town center and very close to a drugstore and market. Even though the cottage was behind the main house, it was very quiet and felt secluded. It definitely felt just like home and exceeded my expectations. 27 April 2012 - 06:07:40

We met our daughter and son-in-law for a few days in Sonoma and were pleased with our experience with this property. We chose it especially for convenience to town and the dog-friendly accommodation. It suited both very well. We have an active, large dog who likes to run and there wasn't much availability for that at the property but the owner was great in greeting us and pointing out the park just a block away where he ran to his heart's content. The home was very comfortable and quiet, clean and well-maintained. Our only hesitation in giving it 5 stars was that the only shower was located in one of the bedrooms and we were sharing it among 4 of us. The 1/2 bath was available in the main living area. We didn't use the kitchen facilities because of the many wonderful restaurants in the area! We would recommend this property. 24 April 2012 - 18:33:18

The cottage is in a great location with easy access to the Sonoma Plaza. It is completely private, well appointed, very clean and comfortable. The beds and bed linens were very comfortable, the kitchen was completely stocked, etc. We enjoyed having morning coffee on the front porch and afternoon wine on the back deck. Liz was very responsive to our questions and a great host. We'll definitely be back! This property would also be great for a couple with young children as there is a fun play set right out the front door. 14 June 2012 - 22:48:00

We had such a nice time at this cottage, we chose to stay here primarily as it allows kids and we have two little ones under 3. The location is great - quiet, walking distance to parks/Train Town/Sonoma Square and a play structure right outside the door. Liz was incredibly hospitable as well - we will be sure to come back! 04 September 2012 - 20:54:07
  9. The cottage was pleasantly larger than it seems in pictures. Both bedrooms were roomy and comfortable. The kitchen had all amenities needed, including appliances. Certainly dog friendly which we appreciated. We would definitely consider staying there again. 18 October 2012 - 02:09:53
  10. My husband and I stayed in the cottage for two days, and wish we could have stayed longer. I don't think the pictures do it justice; it's an adorable, quiet little place and very well appointed for its size. Location is excellent too. The owners couldn't have been nicer and easier to communicate with, yet stayed out of our hair completely during our stay. Highly recommended! 08 November 2012 - 18:40:52

Two 30ish couples from Louisiana --- we really enjoyed our stay in the Cottage! We met one of the owners, and the family owns a winery, so they are really in tune with Sonoma and the area. It was the perfect place to stay in Sonoma, close to everything and just right for four adults. Would definitely recommend. 07 June 2013 - 15:14:55

We booked this sweet Sonoma cottage for a wedding weekend. It was the perfect spot for us with our 7 month old, my parents and our small dog. We had originally planned on staying in a hotel but I am so glad we chose this option instead. Having a full kitchen and front and back decks meant that we were able to relax with a glass of wine instead of constantly running around to find kid (and pup) friendly restaurants. The cottage is tucked behind a beautiful house in a comfortable, quiet neighborhood that was perfect for afternoon walks. The rooms were outfitted with nice bedding and plenty of towels and we would definitely stay here again! 06 August 2013 - 21:56:01

The cottage was wonderful for us and our two small children. It's located in a beautiful, quiet neighborhood and we loved the walk to the plaza. My kids really enjoyed the swingset and the garden. The cottage was very clean upon arrival. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked. There is plenty of privacy at the back of the lot. Even though the temperature reached 97 on one day, the cottage stayed cool. We never even had to use the AC. Jeff and Liz were so kind and helpful. We hope to return. 11 September 2013 - 14:39:46

My sister and boyfriend were visiting from the East coast and this cottage was the perfect setup in Sonoma. We were walking distance to the plaza for evening dinners but not far from local wineries in Napa and Sonoma. The house was a great size for 3-4 people. The kitchen was fully stocked and the back deck/yard were very convenient since I brought my lab. The property owners were great to work with and gave us privacy as well. Would definitely recommend and stay again!! 26 November 2013 - 16:14:49

I was pleasanly suprised with aabout every aspect of my stay at this cottage. The cottage has plenty of room in the living room and dining area to entertain, and the little kitchen has every appliance and gadget you'd need for cooking cleverly tucked away. The cottage was super clean and super quiet. A thuroughly relaxing place to stay and walkable to the Sonoma plaza for all the evening entertainment you could want. I'll definately stay again in the future. 01 May 2014 - 18:53:20

My husband, adult daughter and I stayed at this cute cottage for three nights while in Sonoma for my nieces wedding. It was perfect for the 3 of us. Plenty of room, very clean, comfortable beds, a well-appointed kitchen, large deck and surprisingly private. We went on several nice walks around the neighborhood and downtown to the Plaza. After I reserved the cottage, I discovered that this family owns the Gundlach Bundschu Winery and Vineyard, where my nieces wedding was held. Its only 2 miles away, and it was a beautiful setting for a wedding. The weekend couldnt have been more perfect! 07 June 2014 - 02:55:27

My husband and I had the best stay at this charming cottage. We biked to the plaza and to a few wineries nearby. The cottage is very comfortable: clean and has everything you need. 30 June 2014 - 22:46:28

This cottage was perfect and perfectly peaceful. It is cute, "rustic" and comfortable. I say "rustic" because it looks like a cabin, but is perfectly modern and well-appointed where needed. It is a very efficient space: cozy but spacious enough to not feel crowded. I loved the porches most, in the shaded, late-summer weather. It is close to town and in a residential-type area, but set back in plenty of trees and shade so that the feel is secluded. It is perfect if you have animals as there is an enclosed yard. I brought my dog and 2 young children and there was a perfect balance of space inside and out. The owners are friendly, approachable and helpful, but also give you space and privacy. 07 October 2016 - 00:44:27
