Daphne made us feel like we were at home as soon as we arrived. There were goodies in the fridge, plenty of supplies, and she checked in with us to see if we had any needs. The location was perfect and no problem finding parking. Felt safe and secure. Would definitely stay here again 07 October 2015 - 13:10:00

We had a very comfortable stay and it is a great location. Shopping and attractions are very close. Everything in the apartment is attractive and well put together. The view is fantastic. Everything was just as it was stated, and the owners are very easy to work and communicate well. Our only comments would be that it was a bit cold during the nights we were there and we weren't quite sure about the heating instructions. Eventually we found a space heater in the closet, but never quite figured out if the central heating worked. Also, there is quite a bit of ambient light from the street and city view, which isn't clear from the listing, so if you like to have blacked out windows at night this would not be the place for you. Thanks for everything! 16 December 2015 - 19:02:00

The owner, Daphne, was very friendly, prompt in her responses to questions, and available via text for questions. Our schedules were tricky so we did not meet in person. The flat itself is spacious and nicely decorated. The layout is a little funky but I liked its uniqueness. I did not give a 5-star rating because my husband and I both found the mattress to be extremely uncomfortable. I think maybe it was too firm and spring-based, which is nearly the opposite of what we sleep on when at home. The flat is in close proximity to various locations around Berkeley, Rockridge, etc. We walked a bit but having a car was definitely convenient. Parking was easy with a little car (we had a Prius). Also, the area is beautiful. Overall I'd definitely book this rental again. Thanks Daphne! 16 February 2016 - 01:17:00

Accommodations were quite comfortable. Easy parking and handy to the Rockridge area, BART, and northern Oakland or UC Berkeley. I would gladly recommend the place for one person or a couple for either a short or longer stay. 31 August 2016 - 15:10:00

This fun unit is located downstairs in an elegant home in an historic, upscale, hillside neighborhood. It feels very safe and makes for great walking, all the way down to bustling, restaurant-rich College Avenue if you want a workout, or the Rockride BART station (probably a good half mile). We found it to be a great choice for us: private, clean, quiet, comfortable, spacious and nicely appointed (good bed, nice linens, nice bath towels, thoughtful lighting, nice dresser for clothes storage). Street parking was not a problem in this old neighborhood, but the narrow, dead-end street requires some nimble turnarounds to get in and out. A big car would be a hassle, but not impossible. This place is a good choice for visitors who are in good shape and spry -- the concrete and stone stairs leading down to the unit, although well lit, would be quite a challenge for others and a big hazard -- unclimbable, really -- for anyone with leg weakness, disability, walker, cane, etc. The alternative entrance is safer and shorter with handrail, but steep, narrow and has several step up/downs. Those who prefer slick, new hotel rooms won't be happy here, as it is an old building. Getting in and out with your stuff requires some effort. But others -- especially those who love the East Bay Area -- will appreciate the offbeat features, including big windows, hardwood floor, porch with view, lush garden setting, an antique stove you must light by hand, big sink without disposal, and no dishwasher). You can hear the 24 freeway, but only as background noise and it didn't disturb our sleep. Cable TV with hundreds of channels worked great. The place has a somewhat peculiar layout -- you have to walk through the kitchen and up a few stairs to get to the bathroom. The dining area in the kitchen is pretty tight. There is a nice closet, and oddly, it is two steps up. The huge couch/daybed has a few soft spots. But these things were quite tolerable, again, for those who appreciate fun, roomy places like this. If you go in winter, you'll likely need to borrow space heaters from the hosts, as the main house heater (at least in our experience) didn't adequately heat the downstairs unit. But most of the year this is not an issue, and again, things like this are not unusual in an older place. Hosts Daphne and Marco were fun, accessible and helpful. They allow dogs with approval, a huge plus for us. Would stay here again. 27 December 2016 - 15:57:00

This flat was great for our three-night stay in the East Bay. All the comforts of home were there, and the Rockridge BART station was within walking distance. The owner was responsive and considerate. We would stay again and recommend it to others. 04 March 2017 - 18:05:00

Perfect. Very well maintained. The bed was comfortable. Owner and her dog were great and very friendly. Unfortunately not very accessible for those whom might be less mobility inclined. The stairs are steep. 31 July 2017 - 00:07:00

I recently had the pleasure to stay in Daphne's fabulous apartment in the chic Claremont area of Berkeley/Rockridge. What a delight! The apartment was situated on the lower floor of her beautiful home and with its own entrance was perfectly situated on a cul-de-sac close to all the amenities that make the location so desirable: Rockridge BART, fantastic restaurants, cafes, etc. The apartment was pristine - super clean. And the charm of hardwood floors, a lovely kitchen fully equipped, and outdoor deck with view of SF made it even better. What a great spot. Daphne made it easy to book and was a gracious host. If you're headed to the East Bay, you can't miss with this sweet oasis - a true home away from home. 09 December 2013 - 21:27:38

Very charming, well-supplied, apartment with a friendly, helpful owner. All was smooth and perfect for our 6-day visit to our West Coast children. Stairs might be an issue for some, though not for us. We hope to return. 18 April 2014 - 01:45:33

Our family relocated to the Bay Area and had the pleasure of renting this charming space. The owner of the house is as charming as the house. She was amazing! Helpful, resourceful, and flexible. We could have not started our time in the Bay Area in a better place. 09 October 2014 - 03:48:55

The photos do not do this place justice! It is like staying in the home of your most elegant and well traveled friend. The bay views are inspiring. The apartment is charming and super clean with every comfort provided. The owners were very welcoming and helpful--even allowing us to bring our small dog for a nominal fee. Our family of three (two adults and our 12-year-old daughter) stayed here for a few days while visiting friends and family. The functional and well-outfitted kitchen, generous storage, and lovely outdoor space made us wonder why we ever considered a hotel! 19 August 2015 - 02:50:35

Daphne and Marco welcomed me and gave me a tour of the rental as well as the downstairs of their lovely home as if I was a family member coming for a visit! First impressions: gorgeous, cozy, whimsical, private, spacious, and high in the hills and surrounded by beautiful trees. Their dog Murphy Brown is a sweetheart who loves company, and Daphne has stocked the place with tons of artistic (and useful) amenities - she even loves her renters' suggestions!. The location has an incredible view of the surrounding hills, city, and bay. My morning walks with my dog were some of the most beautiful (and full of friendly neighbors) I have encountered in northern CA. As a bonus, it's within 5-10 minutes of most destination spots (UC Berkeley, downtown, great restaurants on College Ave., Tilden Regional Park, and the harbor. I would definitely stay there again, and will recommend Daphne's 'tree house hideaway'. 10 July 2016 - 04:44:00
