About listing

Two bedroom, cozy, comfortable craftsman -A vegetarian/vegan home for years (please do not bring meat into the house for either cooking or storage. Eat whatever you like when out and about!). Eggs, dairy and bee products are fine, although you may enjoy trying coconut cream, nut or goat milks and cheeses as they are reputed to be generally better for digestibility.. - Staying in Berkeley is arguably nicer that staying in San Francisco when visiting the SF Bay Area. In the East Bay, the temperature is warmer by about ten degrees F than nearby San Francisco. "The coldest winter I ever spent was Summer in San Francisco." Mark Twain. The inversion layer causes fog which can be chilly, (especially in the summer). Berkeley is warmer, however many summer mornings have a fog that normally burns off by noon. -Close to fabulous Fourth Street shops and restaurants, Bette's Diner, Peet's and the Apple Store in Berkeley's Oceanview neighborhood. One of the older neighborhoods of Berkeley, full of charming homes and long time residents. -Easy access to buses (UC Berkeley and SF downtown), easy freeway access and a 99% walk-ability rating. A 10-15 minute walk (.9 mile) to North Berkeley BART (and SF morning carpool) -We accept most pets -Private Entry with mud porch and rear exit door to the yard -Large living-room with a working fireplace, couch, and a couch that converts into a single bed. -There is a playable upright piano -Two bedrooms, furnished with double beds, desks etc. The bedrooms have plenty of light. -Tiled bathroom- with separate shower and bathtub -Large eat-in kitchen with gas stove, refrigerator, spacious sink, plenty of cabinets, booth benches, oak table, dishwasher, granite counter tops. Vegetarian cook books, toaster and includes pots pans, mixing bowls, juicer on request, crock pot, dishes etc. -A front loading washing machine on site. There are a few folding racks to hang laundry to dry as well as a very small drier that fits less than half of a full load from the washer. Large appliances are to be used between 7PM and noon, to work with the solar array and utilities pricing systems. -Street parking, no permits are required in this neighborhood. There is street cleaning - two days in the month, the first Monday and Tuesday each month. - Owner lives on the property, in a private addition. -Shared small sunny yard (garden- a work in progress)- do not consider the yard, as it is under development. -No smoking in the home or on the property -I just raised the pet fee as I had an allergic guest and had to pay $250 for deep cleaning to remove cat dander.

Thanks to Lisa for sharing this lovely bungalow with us! It was clean and comfortable to stay in. It was great to share with another couple - great shared space in both the kitchen and living room. The flowers, wine and fruit that Lisa put out for us just made it that much nicer. The location in Berkeley was great! We walked everywhere! Our dog Dali also felt very welcomed with her own dog bed and water dish! With luck, we will get to stay here again in the not to distant future! Thanks Lisa! 17 January 2017 - 21:01:00

We loved our stay at maison magnolia. Lisa went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed, even the occasional L'uber ride in her 70ies Mercedes. The place is clean and cozy. Definitely will be back! 27 February 2017 - 11:41:00

We really enjoyed our stay. The house has plenty of room, and a private feel, even though it is within walking distance of nice restaurants and shops, and has easy access to both main Berkeley arteries and the freeway system. It was the perfect place for a get-together with family members coming from several different locations. Lisa took really good care of us throughout our stay, and we would welcome the opportunity to return. Thanks from all of us! 25 January 2017 - 18:14:00

We stayed for a week with our family of four. Wonderful home with nice kitchen. The location is awesome and Lisa, the owner, was more than happy to pick us up at the Bart. We were able to Uber into SF for $21, which made everything easy. Home: Clean, cozy, eclectic Berkeley feel in a great and safe neighborhood. Lisa grew up in Berkeley and knows the area well, including an amazing market just a mile away (also whole foods 6 blocks away). We went to that market almost every day as it is like a candy store for vegetarians. Neighborhood: Really nice location between Cal Berkeley and the water. Quiet with no road noise. Comfy living room which we hung out in all the time. Owner: Very easy to work with, she clearly wanted us to have a magnificent week. She got us immediately into a laid back vacation mode and stayed in her separate part of the house. She was always responsive with questions by text and cell. We are very thankful that we found this home away from home! Nate 22 October 2016 - 18:14:00

Lisa is the most accomodating host! Thoughtful and sweet in every way. The house is cute and cozy... nothing fancy but loaded with character and personal touches. A true gem in a beautiful neighborhood. Would stay again and totally recommend. 26 June 2017 - 01:58:00

We really enjoyed our stay in Lisa's stylish house. Lisa is very friendly and helpful, the place looks great and is very comfortable. We enjoyed playing monopoly ( there were a few games to choose from) and playing the piano in the evenings. All in all it was a great stay and we would highly recommend this property. Thanks Lisa 04 July 2017 - 00:15:00

The house has a really great character, but with all the modern conviences. Lisa, the owner greeted us when we arrived and ensured we had parking. She was very helpful with suggestions about the area and had the kitchen stocked with coffee, fruit, etc. The location is great as the walk to the Bart Station is a pretty walk and there are nice restaurants and very nice shopping close by. Also, the house is located in a really cool neighborhood. So if you want to go into the city or visit Berkeley University, this is the perfect place to stay. 10 August 2017 - 15:03:00

My family of 5 stayed at Lisa's rental for two nights. Lisa is a gracious host, and made sure that we had everything that we needed! The shops of 4th street (although they are not typical Berkley, and mostly chains) are very close, and there are plenty of other restaurants and shops a few blocks the other direction. The neighborhood is safe, but typical Berkley where you can have one nice home, and litter, broken down cars, and homeless people hanging out next door. The north Berkley BART station is about a 20 minute walk away, but I would not recommend doing it in the dark. Overall, a great stay. Thanks Lisa!! 11 August 2017 - 22:14:00

This was a great "home base" for our visit with my daughter at UC Berkeley. We flew into Oakland, rented a car there, and saw all the San Francisco sites as well as spent a day in Napa. Staying in a house was so much better for the week than trying to cram into a hotel room, or even two. (And hotel prices in the area are generally more than this house!) Lisa was such a considerate host, asking us for feedback, making sure we had a parking space in front of the house, and truly wanting us to be comfortable and happy. We will definitely stay here again next time we come visit! 16 August 2017 - 15:02:00

Very clean home, plenty of room for my family of five. Good location to the city, and to principle attractions in the area. Lisa was very helpful, and a warm and friendly host. We definitely enjoyed our time in Berkeley. 19 August 2017 - 04:49:00

Lisa, was so wonderful working with a group of nervous moms sending their 4 sons with Aspergers off to a new city for the 1st time. She was accommodating, answered all my questions so quickly, and acted like I wasn't a pain ;) The boys said the house was super comfy, and close to transportation and when my son had a question she got right back to him. Much appreciated Lisa! Thank you Lisa for being such a gracious host. 20 August 2017 - 17:05:00

We highly recommend this rental. Its very comfortable and well equipped and worked well for our family of four as each of our teenage children was able to have their own room. Lisa is very attentive and quick to respond to any queries or minor problems that might arise. It is is located near a very nice shopping district and is a quick bus or car ride from downtown Berkeley. 27 August 2017 - 01:46:00

We had a great few weeks in Lisas house. Its very comfortable and well-equipped, with lots of storage space if youre planning a longer stay as we did. Lisa is extremely helpful and welcoming: she helped us get our bearings in the neighbourhood and gave great advice on the best places for groceries. Shes the greatest and kindest host. The house is incredibly pleasant inside: almost all the furnishings have an interesting story, exhibit distinctive taste and are full of character. Little things, like hand-painted lintels or the large double sash windows that fill the sitting room with light, will stick in the mind. Together such things make the place both a colourful yet also very cosy place to stay. You can enjoy the time you spend there. The house is in a quiet part of Berkeley, a few streets away from the deluxe and artisan shopping district on Fourth Street; the downtown area and university campus are reached easily by bus, and Lisa is willing to rent bikes at a very reasonable rate. The house and the surrounding neighbourhood are very much of a piece relaxed, friendly and a touch bohemian. Highly recommended. 22 February 2017 - 03:38:00

We love everything about this charming, spacious and eclectic home located close to the bay! We walked everywhere, day and night. Upscale shopping one direction, college-town pubs the other. This is the perfect place to relax after a day full of sight-seeing and, in our case, visiting with family. We'll be staying here again for any return trips to Berkeley. Thanks for being a great host, Lisa! 12 July 2017 - 15:29:00
