About listing

If you are wishing for a home on a quiet street, (4BR/2BA 2300sq ft.) that’s spectacularly sunny and airy, windows framing lush garden views, walkable to BART, restaurants, cafes, farmers’ market and boutique stores and in stellar proximity to UC Berkeley, San Francisco, Napa and Sonoma’s wineries and the redwoods then your wish is our command! You’ll love the easy interplay between nature and our home and feel as if you are visiting a friend. Since we are relational folks, we created a sweet space for friend to gather, and art abounds. Our open-concept living room resplendent with a gas fireplace, wood beamed, high ceilings overlooks the art- filled dining area. A solid wood table accommodating ten diners sidles french doors spilling onto the back garden that overflows with roses, wisteria, hummingbirds and various nooks among our fruit trees. You will appreciate our hot tub, gas bbq and trampoline. Drinking coffee or sipping a California libation on the deck will become your new habit. Since we have every amenity, appliance and tool in our kitchen, it’s simple to create scrumptious meals. Of course we have a dishwasher, coffeemaker, blender/food processor, all the dishes, utensils, large fridge, stove/oven, and microwave for your use. The laundry facilities are a few steps down from the kitchen for your convenience. The family room has an enormous sectional, a 49” TV (with Roku), games, books and a sweet alcove/sitting nook overlooking the garden. If needed, a really nice queen-size air mattress is also available. If you must work, we have a lovely spot for you here as well. On this level, there is a room with a very comfortable pull-out couch and an adjacent bathroom with a shower/toilet. A few steps up from this level is another serene bedroom with a queen size bed and closet space. Yet another bedroom with a queen size bed is located on this floor as well. The second bathroom with a full-size tub/shower is on this level as well. A few steps up from here is the Master bedroom with a queen-size bed and access to another deck where you can relax while having a bird’s eye view of the whole garden. We love our neighborhood where parking is ample and free. It’s close to El Cerrito plaza where a host of retail and grocery shops await and the farmer’s market is open 9-1 Tuesdays/Saturdays.Solano Avenue is where you can sample cashew ice cream at Uncle Dewie’s, eat from the Pacific Northwest Cuisine at Eugene’s and visit galleries, one of a kind stores and a plethora of cafes and ethnic cuisines. We are fortunate to be near many parks: Our dog park by the high school (5 min. walk); Tilden Park for hiking and equestrian trails and swimming at lake Anza; beautiful Blake Gardens and UC Berkeley’s botanical gardens. Albany Park is only a few blocks away, and further up the hill is Indian Rock Park, where everyone likes to go for a good sunset view. The San Francisco Bay Trail, a great place for a bike or a run, follows the shoreline for miles. So many other Bay Area adventures await: San Francisco (35 min.), UC and downtown Berkeley (10 min.), Muir Woods (50 min) or at the wineries of Napa and Sonoma (50 min.). Other attractions and destinations include: Freight & Salvage Music Hall and the Berkeley Rep Theater in downtown Berkeley; Zellerbach Performance and UC Berkeley‘s Greek Theater; Alcatraz, Sausalito, San Jose, Santa Cruz, Oakland (uptown sculpture garden), Richmond (Rosie the Riveter), Berkeley Rose Garden, Healdsburg, Russian River, and breath-taking Route 1 on the Coast. We are a 10 minute walk from El Cerrito Bart Station. There are numerous bus lines on San Pablo Avenue (also 10 minutes walk from our place.) We are on a bike path and can get to Berkeley in 10 minutes by bike.

We are New England grandparents to children who live in Berkeley and we visit often. The house was absolutely perfect for us, fully equipped modern kitchen, lovely dining and living room areas, a pretty garden off the deck in back with hot tub and even a trampoline for the kids. We were there for a very happy eight days over Thanksgiving. 29 November 2017 - 14:47:00

This house is beautiful, provided all of the amenities you could ask for and comfortably accommodated two families including 4 adults and 3 small children under the age of 7. I would give it 5 stars if not for the negative experience and frustration we had with the property managers at Book a Nook and the owners of the property. This should not come as a surprise as I had a lengthy email exchange with Limor in regard to this. After we reserved the property and I paid in full for our stay for 5 nights as well as paying $99 for Damage Protection, I received an invoice a week later to my surprise charging us an extra $525. If you have over 4 people in your party you are required to pay $35 per person per night to stay in this 4 bedroom house. This makes no sense. I would think only parties of 4 or more people would be interested and not 2 people renting a 4 bedroom house. This was a VRBO flub, however, and I agreed to pay more than half the cost ($280) as some of our guests were working and not staying at the house for part of the week. We received our email including the address and were sent to the wrong property. After some confusion with the owners who lived at that house, we were given the correct address and made our way. Instead of our stay being relaxing we were constantly worried about getting charged for something. Too many trash bags, there's a fee. Moving the furniture, there's a fee. Not putting both the keys back, there's a fee. The property managers were also pretty insistent on setting up a time when they could stop by and meet you. We politely declined the "hospitality" visit as it felt more like they wanted to check in on you. During our stay 2 wine glasses were broken. One of them was being hand washed and broke in my friend's hand. The other accidentally fell on the floor. Out of courtesy I let Limor know. Next thing I know I get a bill for $45 for two used wine glasses! According to the owner, they were very expensive. If that's the case they should be locked away because in reality accidents happen. Not to mention this should have been covered under the $99 insurance I was required to buy when I booked the place. This problem was fixed and covered under the insurance, but it felt like another opportunity to make money off of the renter. I left with the feeling of being nickel and dimed every step of the way. Maybe this review will change the way the property managers and owners interact with renters. 18 August 2017 - 03:14:00

Our host is so welcome and approachable. The house is beautiful, artifully decorated, comfortable and conveniently located in the heart of Albany and close to many attractions just as described by the owner. It located in a quite and peaceful street and close to BART, grocery stores and restaurants. So, we were able to cook some simple meals and take ease at this nice "home" away from home. Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us. We had a wonderful trip to northern CA and felt in love with this place. Looking forward to visiting again and explore more of the beautiful west coast. 26 August 2017 - 20:58:00

Excellent value. Well located. Comfortable and spacious. Arrived during record setting heat wave and manager quickly provided fans. I'm normally a hotel sort of guy but this was great. 05 September 2017 - 16:46:00

This house is beautifully decorated, very clean and spacious. We were able to get an earlier check-in time and that was very helpful as we were coming to the end of a cross country road trip. The basket of goodies left for us was much appreciated even though there are 2 grocery stores within walking distance. The 6 of us spent most of our time in the TV room, however, we did not know how to use Roku and there weren't any directions. The person from Book a Nook who came over said she doesn't watch TV so she was no help. We tried twice to watch movies but the picture kept pixelating so we gave up. The toaster oven in the kitchen didn't work at all and we were told it would be reported, but it wasn't replaced so we had no way to toast the bread/English muffins we had bought for breakfast. This was my first experience with a Home Away property and, for the most part, it was a great experience. 15 October 2017 - 02:24:00
