LOCATION The apartment is situated on the Prinseneiland. I will give you some information about our location in relation to the rest of the city. First of all, our neighborhood is still part of the Centre of Amsterdam. It is a very quiet and safe 'little village' right next to the 'busy' part of the city. There are still a few little shipyards but most of the warehouses are converted into residences. The city is more or less built in circles around the centre. We are the western part of the centre, nearby Central Station. That is at this moment I think the most popular part. Next to our apartment lies the famous Jordaan. The Jordaan is a small part of the city, famous for the narrow streets with little shops, cafes and restaurants. We are divided from the Jordaan by a very nice shopping street. In this street there are two normal supermarkets (open 8AM/10PM), bakeries, a butcher and two organic supermarkets. There are all kind of shops, cafés, nice little restaurants everywhere around us. We think Amsterdam is more a “big village”. That is, the part where you want to be as a visitor. You can walk everything, but certainly on the bike everything is really nearby. The address is Prinseneiland 10, Amsterdam if you want to look it up on Google Maps. The street view is still from the period we were building, a few years ago. But one of the pictures you can click shows the finished building. Walking distance to the Central Station 15 minutes (bike 7 minutes), Jordaan 10 minutes (bike 5 minutes), Dam 17 minutes (bike 10 minutes), and Rijks Museum / Van Gogh / Stedelijk Museum (contamporary/modern art) 35 minutes (bike 20 minutes), Anne Frank Museum 10minutes (bike 5 minutes). If you want to explore more of the city we have bikes for rent and there are trams and buses to all parts of the city at a 4-minute walk. Apart from the general maps that we provide, we also made a map of our neighbourhood. A selection of breakfast-/lunch-places/restaurants/supermarkets is pointed out on this map. We also have “around the corner” a few very nice and good restaurants. We are happy to advise you and/or make reservations for you.

What a wonderful home. Easy walking distance to the center of town. Quiet and peaceful location. Top quality fittings and furnishiing. Everything was better then described and pictured in the VRBO ad. Worter and Lisbeth are great hosts. Not to be missed is Worter's personal boat tour of the canals. You will be happy you stayed at the Wharfhouse. 03 July 2012 - 17:44:35
  2. My wife and I had a great stay at Wouter and Liesbeth's wonderful apartment they have built in the rear of their canal house. It is every bit as big and as comfortable as the pictures suggest and the quality of the work is testimony to Wouter's lifetime as a boatbuilder. Dealing with them was easy from the outset, they were prompt, accommodating, friendly and very reasonable. They always seemed to be available, but were by no means obtrusive - the best of both worlds. Wouter is not one to leave anything to chance. He has provided features that go beyond what you would find in a five star hotel. From the comfortable bed to the excellent shower to the extra touches like monogrammed soap and shampoo, slippers, fruit and wine on arrival, delicious Dutch biscuits, DVD's, maps of Amsterdam and beyond, you name it, its all there and it all works. Wouter's bikes are well worth hiring for a chance to feel like an Amsterdammer while you are there. The highlight however was the personalised tour of the canals with Wouter and Liesbeth who kindly made recommendations and reservations for us at a delightful restaurant and then delieverd us there by boat. Great memories. We will definitely be back, next time to try out the new apartment he is building on the other side of his amazing block. 20 August 2012 - 16:38:18

Our stay in Amsterdam was a cultural enrichment with lasting memories from all that we experienced. First and foremost was the WHARF HOUSE that is equal to a 5 star luxury hotel suite. The architectural design and execution would win an award with all the details that make the entire apartment an unusual accommodation. It is not only beautiful, but also furnished with high quality furnishings and a mattress that puts you to sleep instantly with a restful night. Wouter and Liesbeth are charming, helpful and pleasant Innkeepers, who make the stay most pleasing. The WHARF HOUSE is a 15 minute walk, west of Central Station from which Trams and Buses transport to all the major attractions. We did take the Tram, but for the most part, we walked casually to wherever we wanted to go. If you are active throughout the day, you will want peace and quiet and you will find it at the WHARF HOUSE. You are on an island, close to the Center, but away from all the noise. We recommend the Wharf HOUSE with Wouter and Liesbeth and guarantee that you will be pleased. Please note that there is a brand new Apartment in the complex that Woulter and Liesbeth have completed, called THE BOAT HOUSE, which accommodates 4 persons and is directly on the canal. It is sensational! If Amsterdam is your destination, then have full confidence that your stay with Woulter and Liesbeth will make it all worthwhile. 18 September 2012 - 18:43:24

This was the most spacious and comfortable place we stayed during our month in Europe. The apartment was light and roomy and became home during our few days in Amsterdam. It's in a great, quiet neighborhood - just 2 blocks walk, over the bridge to restaurants, shopping and transportation. The furnishings are tasteful and modern and it is very clean and well maintained and is even nicer then the photos. The owners were very kind and helpful. Their maps and restaurant lists were well used. Wish we had scheduled more time in Amsterdam but we were able to see and do a lot of wonderful sight seeing in the time we had there..Hope to return - we will stay at the Wharf House if we do! 07 October 2012 - 23:18:21

We stayed at the Wharf House for a week in October and absolutely loved this place! We have stayed at many VRBOs and this is by far our favourite. The floor to ceiling windows, spiral staircase and fresh flowers make this unique property extra special. The suite is clean, bright, modern and simply charming. The location is perfect, walking distance to all the popular attractions as well as grocery stores and fabulous shops. There are bikes available to rent which is handy. The king size bed is extremely comfortable with lovely cotton sheets. They have different types of pillows, plus extra bedding in case you visit in the winter. The small bathroom is well organized and has a fantastic shower. With a separate toilet, it's easy to share. Shampoo and body wash are provided as well as disposable slippers. There are no robes, so bring lounge wear. The kitchenette is tiny and does not have a cooker, but aside from that it has everything you could need and we enjoyed many meals at "home". Overall, we thought this place was perfect and hope to return soon. 25 October 2012 - 15:49:16

The Wharfhouse is perfectly located (away from the maddening bikes) on a small island connected by charming bridges in a quiet neighborhood in northwestern Amsterdam. The apartment was beautifully furnished, spotless, bright, modern and secure. We asked for breakfast on the morning we arrived and our hosts provided enough food to last for three days! They offer everthing from a personal boat ride on the canals to bikes right at your front door. The hosts live in the apartment next door and were available at any time to answer questions and provide recommendations. We truly felt like the Wharfhouse was home after a busy day touring the city. 29 October 2012 - 21:08:42

I agree with all of the rave reviews previously written. This was exactly what I was looking for on my first trip to Amsterdam. The bike provided by Wouter was just right and I was able to be in the heart of Amsterdam within minutes. The place was wonderful and clean I almost didn't want to leave the apartment. Loved the view from all directions. I usually like to try different locations when I travel but this is definitely the home I would return to on my next visit. Thanks for all! 03 May 2013 - 11:35:41

This is our first experience with VRBO and we will be hard pressed to find another as good. Wouter was very prompt, kind and helpful when responding to our various emails - starting over a year ago. Not only did he give us information about his apartment but also answered questions we had about other areas of Europe as well. Wouter even offered to pick us up and drop us off at the Central Station in Amsterdam. The apartment includes all one needs and many more little extras. We truly felt spoiled upon arrival. Wouter and Liesbeth are very caring, gracious hosts. We highly recommend a stay at the Wooden Wharf House in Amsterdam. 16 May 2013 - 23:14:55

The Wharfhouse was a wonderful place to stay in Amsterdam. We spent five nights there in Spring and were delighted with our choice. It is located in an historical canal area in central Amsterdam, and is only a few minutes walk from Central Station; in fact, it was so central that we walked almost everywhere that we wanted to go in the city. Yet it was very quiet. The property is two-storied and there is a spiral staircase to the upper level, which comprises the kitchen and a quite spacious living area that is bright and airy and lovely to come home to after a big day of sightseeing and exploring. The bedroom downstairs is of a good size and the bed very comfy, and similarly the other furniture and furnishings are of a very good quality. The hosts, Wouter and Liesbeth, are delightful people who it was a pleasure to know, and they could not have done more to make our stay comfortable and to provide us with everything we needed, including tourist advice and information, to make our stay in Amsterdam a highlight of our European trip. As an aside, we took up Wouters offer to have a personal canal cruise in his boat for a reasonable cost, and I would recommend that to everyone; not just because his small boat can access places that the larger boats cannot, but also because of Wouters personal approach and Liesbeths nicely-presented morning tea on board which was a bonus. I would highly recommend the Wharfhouse to people looking for comparatively well priced, comfortable and quiet self-contained accommodation in the heart of Amsterdam. 21 June 2013 - 04:53:22

We were fortunate enough to stay at the Wharf House for nine days during our trip to Amsterdam. We enjoyed the ideal location of the house, as it was close to both a taxi pick up center and a variety of wonderful local shops and restaurants, all within walking distance. The neighborhood is friendly and very quiet in the evenings, which was a nice respite from the active city center. The house is very tastefully furnished, with the sleeping area located downstairs, and the living area upstairs. It's evident that a lot of thought and energy went into the design, look and feel of the house. We felt at home from the first moment we arrived. There were also a variety of thoughtful details included at the Wharf House, including detailed maps with neighborhood dining recommendations, various guidebooks, umbrellas and passes for use in the local museums. We appreciated these small touches, which helped make our trip very memorable. We can't wait to come back! 11 July 2013 - 21:17:32

We were first time users of a nontraditional hotel on our trip to Amsterdam. We were very fortunate that our first experience was at The Wharf House. Elisabeth and Wouter were wonderful hosts. The Wharf House was charming, on an island and canal in Amsterdam. It was within walking distance to most places and the bus network took care of the rest. The accommodations were first class. Elisabeth and Wouter provided everything we needed and made our stay a more personal experience. Wouter was available to us at all times to answer any questions and requests we had. The boat ride on Wouters boat gave us an intimate view of the city far greater than any other commercial ride. We fully recommend The Wharf House and Elisabeth and Wouter to anyone who want a charming stay in Amsterdam. 28 October 2013 - 02:44:40

The Wharfhouse was the perfect home away from home for our stay in Amsterdam. Wouter and Liesbeth offered us a wealth of support and information including maps, a local phone, restaurant recommendations, and bikes to get around town. Wouter provided transportation to and from the airport for our convenience. Special touches like fresh flowers and champagne made us feel welcomed after our long flight. The unit was spacious and clean, architecturally beautiful, with quality construction and updated fixtures. It was located in the quiet islands neighborhood with many shops and restaurants and only a short walk to city center. There were also buses and trams just a few blocks away that we could catch to explore other parts of Amsterdam. Loved the food at Bickers aan de werf! Our stay at the Wharfhouse was a magical seven days, and we look forward to our return. Dankjewel! 10 May 2014 - 19:30:46

My daughter and I stayed at the beautiful Wharf House apartment and I have to say that I will not stay anywhere else when I return to Amsterdam. The apartment is even nicer than the photos show and was spotlessly clean. The rooms are large and bright and the little kitchen in a cupboard was more than adequate. There is a two burner stove, a microwave, fridge, sink, ample dishes and small conveniences, like salt and pepper and tea and coffee, that make a huge difference when you are travelling. If you have concerns about not being in the "heart" of Amsterdam, you should ignore them and stay here. The location is perfect. We appreciated coming back here at the end of the day and being far away from the noise and tourists. The canal behind the apartment is very quiet, unlike the canals in the centre of the city. Sitting on the dock with a glass of wine you would think you are miles away from the city but you aren't. We walked to the Jordaan, the Anne Frank House, the Noordermarkt and a number of other sites and restaurants with no problem. The tram and bus stops were only a short walk and took us anywhere we wanted to go. There are excellent restaurants nearby as well. Wooter and Liesbeth are wonderful hosts with excellent advice on sites and restaurants. They are happy to make reservations for you and provided maps and lots of information on the city. Do take the boat tour with Wooter it is much better than the commercial tours. They have three other properties on the Island and I got a chance to see one of them. It was spectacular and I'm sure the other two are as well. A beautiful location, an excellent apartment and friendly hosts made for a perfect trip. 02 July 2014 - 17:44:47

We experienced two apartments, first the one for two people then the larger one for four after some relatives joined us. Each was equipped with all the necessary gadgets and some additional thoughtful items which one does not usually find in short term rentals such as umbrella, cellphone, bandaids. And the best part was a bouquet of fresh flowers upon arrival!! The hosts provided plenty of written information and were available if additional questions came up. Public transportation is within a ten minute walk, so are grocery stores and restaurants. One is in the center of Amsterdam, yet the area has the feel of a small village. 18 November 2014 - 18:10:03

My husband and I spent 9 nights in the spacious Wharf House on Prince Island. The canal view from the second floor living room was beautiful. The wifi was fast and efficient and the light filled second floor made catching up on emails a pleasure. Wouter and Liesbeth provided excellent restaurant suggestions. We enjoyed six of their suggestions and they all seemed popular with locals. The location is terrific. It is a quiet residential neighborhood with easy walking to the Jordaan and buses and trams. The private canal ride was a dream. We traveled through the gorgeous small canals and were dropped off at a great restaurant. We also used the airport transport offered. These extras were terrific. The tiny kitchen served our purposes very nicely for a breakfast and holding our afternoon snacks. For the last five years we have used rentals for our European vacations. This is the best. 16 May 2015 - 01:31:07

What a wonderful place to stay for our first trip to Amsterdam! How can one possibly be within walking distance of so much and yet to feel like you're on a tranquil island? The answer is actually to be on a tranquil island, as is this outstanding property. A five minute walk across a quaint one-lane drawbridge brings you to a grocery market and a tram stop; a ten-minute walk takes you to the bustling center of the city. The immaculate unit is exactly as described, and Wouter and Liesbeth are kind, considerate, and immensely helpful hosts. In summary: Perfect in every way! 18 December 2015 - 18:30:52

We rented through VRBO & were so pleased to find that the location, the accommodation itself & Wouter's warm welcome & help all worked beautifully to make our stay memorable. Wouter loaned us a cell phone for reservations & local calls, took us to the airport (for a very reasonable fee) & pointed us to restaurants & sites he likes. In all, I'd recommend this rental without reservation. 09 May 2016 - 01:16:39

We rented the Wharf House in the beginning of July. The moment we saw it, we knew it was going to be a great fit. It did not disappoint. I was traveling with my two daughters, 25 and 29. Jackie greeted us and showed us around the house. She gave us great tips regarding the neighborhood, where to eat, what to do and where to do laundry. We had plenty of room and felt very at home. Wouter, provided many nice touches, such as a local cell phone, great maps, treats in the kitchen and very good WIFI. The Wharf House is in a quiet neighborhood, but an easy walk to everything you want to do. Several grocery stores are close by and lots of restaurants. I loved walking around the neighborhood. Across from the house, on the canal is a yellow submarine, there is also a little petting farm across the canal. Very fun. A few suggestions for Amsterdam. When you arrive at the train station, buy a transportation pass. It's totally worth it. Make reservations at all the museums you want to go to ahead of time. Long lines can be avoided. Eat ethnic, great restaurants everywhere. Go to as many outdoor markets as possible. Enjoy, we loved Amsterdam and the Wharf House. 20 July 2016 - 18:37:45

This exquisite apartment is located on a very quiet island just minutes away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Amsterdam. We loved the contrast of the two Amsterdams: the noise and excitement of the city and then the quiet, peacefulness of the island community. Although it is a bit removed from the city, a five minute walk got us to the tram line or to the main pedestrian street leading into the downtown core. The apartment itself is a two-storey architectural delight. The hosts are charming and helpful--and a bottle of wine with snacks upon arrival was a very nice touch. There is a very nice little library with tourist guides and restaurant recommendations. All in all, the Wharf House was a wonderful 'island' holiday. 01 December 2016 - 22:06:29
