About listing

Relax in a spacious, recently renovated 3-bedroom 2-bath private home perched over pristine Tomales Bay with glistening clean water, fantastic panoramic views of beaches and hills across the mile-wide bay in the Point Reyes National Seashore. Sit on the steamer chairs on the deck. listen to the lapping of the water against the seawall underneath the home, hear the laughter of the loons, see seals, otters and birds, and smell fresh air off the Pacific Ocean among wonderful unspoiled nature, yet only an hour from San Francisco. Feel the warm sun reflecting off the bay. The large deck is perfect for yoga or dining al fresco. The home has a southwest exposure and Marshall is sunnier than Point Reyes National Seashore. Don't forget to wear sunblock. There is a container in the master bathroom. If you are lucky, you will see an incredible sunset. Once you pass through the front gate and past the gardens to the front porch, the first thing you see upon entering the home from the foyer is the beautiful bay through the French Doors of the Great Room. The home has been furnished primarily in a Danish mid-centurty modern style, featuring a teak dining table with a unique chandelier made from a sculptured light fixture from Tivoli in Copenhagen. There is tasteful original artwork throughout the home, and a large leather sofa and two chairs surround a teak coffee table in front of a gas fireplace. Most of the lighting is on dimmers, and the windows are double-pane for your comfort. The kitchen is fully equipped with almost every condiment you could every want. There is a blender, coffee bean grinder, coffee maker, toaster, oyster knives, dishes, glasses of all types, cups, bowls (including large wooden salad bowl) and more. Stainless steel appliances include a large refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, disposer, and full-sized electric range-oven. The master bedroom is very large and includes a California King bed suitable for a small family, a Le Corbusier lounge chair, a glass and steel desk with Henry Miller Aeron chair, another smaller desk, painting easel, a fireplace, and a swivel wall-mounted flat-screen TV that can be view from anywhere in the bedroom. A set of French doors lead to the deck and offer views of the moonlit bay at night. Off the bedroom is a walk-in closet and an en suite bathroom with shower-tub and two basins. There is a heater and fan, an exhaust fan and window. Shampoo, peppermint body soap, and conditioner are available, as are body lotions. The other two bedrooms share a bathroom with tub-shower. One bedroom has a Queen bed with a European foam mattress that is very comfortable. The other bedroom is small, about 7.5'X11' and has a pull-out double sofa bed that is suitable for two children, two smaller adults or one average sized adult. There is also a futon in the media room that is not so comfortable. The media room has a 12-foot high ceiling and can be accessed from the master bedroom, from French doors to the front porch, or from a sliding glass door that leads to the hot tub. The TV is a large Samsung flat screen with 1080HD and 240 MHz, offering an excellent picture. There is a Sony sound system with woofer to compliment the TV or for playing music CDs or video games. A blu-ray player can show HD and regular DVDs. There is a children's pool table and various games. We also have broadband Internet with Wi-Fi. The Hot Springs (best quality) spa is located on the leeward side of the home and has a view past potted flowers to the dock and bay beyond. The spa is designed for two or three persons. Great for watching shooting stars at night and hearing distant ocean roar. Guests have use of a tandem sit-on-top kayak or an aluminum rowboat. You can launch them from the dock. Clamming can be done on the beaches across the bay at low tide. Look for air holes or spritzes of water shooting up from the beach. You can also fish from the dock without a license. You might catch a halibut, perch, bass, herring, or sardine. You can also get crab from the dock with the net and some bait. I am growing oysters and mussels from the dock but you need to get yours from Hog Island Oyster Company, less than a half mile north. There is a gas bar-b-q and a Weber charcoal bar-b-q if you like your oysters cooked. Our water source is a well shared by 18 other households. We are state certified water system and the water is tested bi-weekly and we have no bacteria whatsoever. It is perfectly good to drink. Although it appears we have a good supply, please conserve. This is a magical place and staying here is a mesmerizing experience, inspiring the name of the home: Tranquility on the Bay. You might not want to leave.

This is a beautiful, remodeled home that is right on the water. The peaceful, remote location is about 10 minutes from Point Reyes Station. A lovely garden greets you as you enter the home's courtyard area. The house itself is very open, heated by a cozy fireplace controlled by a remote. There are amazing views of the water from almost every room as well as the hot tub. The beds are very comfortable, and the bedding is super soft. The master bedroom is gorgeous, and the kitchen has everything you need with updated appliances. Music, TV's, and Wi-Fi are all available. We also used the two-person kayak to get out on the water from the home's private pier. The Point Reyes lighthouse is a must-see in the area, but be sure to go early and note that it is closed Tues-Thurs. For dining, Osteria Stellina in Point Reyes Station is highly rated and very good, reservations are recommended. The home is also only a couple of minutes from the best BBQ oysters on the bay at the Marshall Store. 10 August 2017 - 16:05:00

My husband and I came to Tranquility on the Bay for his birthday and has such a great time. The house is beautiful and well kept. There were lots of fresh flowers in the house upon our arrival and everything was very clean. Unfortunately, it was a little smoky from the fires on Saturday and Sunday mornings, so we couldn't enjoy the outside as much as we would have liked. We'll definitely come back and enjoy it then! 16 October 2017 - 01:01:00

We came all the way from Denmark to spend a couple of weeks in this natural Paradise. This was our best holiday ever! The house is pefect, whether you wish to relax or to go sightseeing in the San Fransisco Area, Napa Valley, or drive along the beautiful and breathtaking Pacific Coastline. We went to Point Rayes, which was exciting, and we visited the fantastic Bar Restaurant Nick's Cove. We enjoyed all the local food and the fresh oysters. And everywhere we went there were wild deer, lots of birds and just outside the house we could watch the seals and the many birds. The house itself couldn't be more perfect. It exceeded all our expectations So Karin and Fred, we love this place and hope to come back some day. Yours sicerely. Kai and Gudrun Groth 13 February 2011 - 13:58:16

On first arriving, we walked into a well maintained and attractive home. There were five of us in our party and the accomodations were just right. We enjoyed spending time in the comforts of the home as well as taking in the sights of the nearby towns, beaches, etc. We found everything we needed to make our little family get together a memorable experience. 24 May 2011 - 13:04:11

Tranquility on the Bay is a spacious, lovely home with lots of windows and stunning views. The front of the house has a lovely potted flower garden well cared for by the owners. This rental is located in one of the most beautiful areas in California. Lot's of great food and hiking nearby. The owners are very accommodating and accessible. My husband and I spent 2 weeks alone here but this would be a great rental for a family or 2 couples. 13 June 2011 - 17:48:27

I'd call this a little piece of heaven on earth. And no one in my party of 5 would disagree! We spent a PERFECT four-day weekend at Tranquility on the Bay, and it was beyond our expectations. Hadn't even noticed the beautiful gardens and outdoor cafe seating near the hot tub, which was a morning delight. The house itself, inside and outside (that amazing back deck), is gorgeous, clean, inspiring, fresh, and the kitchen that we cooked many full meals in was all that these gourmet-loving friends would have asked for. Relaxing, Refreshing, Rejuvenating. Truly a perfect home, and we are so grateful that Fred and Karin are willing to share it. No question that we will return, since we never wanted to leave! 24 August 2011 - 23:40:05
  7. This location is a real find. The view from the windows throughout the house is simply outstanding. The house has an open floor plan with modern and comfortable furnishings. The interior is light and bright with lots of personal touches (fresh flowers, candles, art, etc.). This is the perfect getaway for two couples. The owner was helpful and easy to work with. We definitely will stay at this lovely home again. 24 February 2012 - 18:08:03
  8. Two friends and I stayed at Tranquility on the Bay for a weekend getaway from the city. The house was gorgeous, comfortable, well stocked and right on Tomales Bay with breathtaking views of the Bay and hills. It has a deck over the water and its own dock. The owner had great suggestions for the area and was easy to deal with. I'd stay there again and definitely recommend it. 01 July 2012 - 20:02:04

Our second stay here--it has become an annual seaside retreat with friends--gorgeous and spacious and inviting, we never want to leave. Gourmet kitchen where we gathered to cook and eat wonderful meals, late-night domino matches, leisurely reading on the dock and porch, knitting, hot tubbing, walks to the Marshall Store for fresh barbecued oysters, Tranquility on the Bay has it all and more...the VIEW! You will come away as we always do, Relaxed and Refreshed. Thank you Fred and Karin for sharing your home! 27 August 2012 - 01:53:49
  10. We had a delightful time in this beautiful house and didn't feel much of an urge to do anything but be there! We did go into Pt. Reyes for lunch, and the next day we walked to a place with fresh oysters and outside seating. We found the kitchen to be well equipped, the beds comfortable and the hot tub hot and didn't need anything else - well we did watch a movie or two. We loved all the windows looking out onto the water, just like the posted picture shows. 30 August 2012 - 22:01:11
  11. My wife and I spent a wonderful, relaxing weekend at Tranquility on the Bay. Sleeping with the sound of the bay literally lapping under the house is not to be missed. The views are spectacular too. The house was spotless and well maintained and the owner was responsive and helpful. Don't miss Hog Island Oyster company - within walking distance from the house. 23 October 2012 - 23:52:18

Happily, our visit to Tranquility on the Bay has turned into an annual event with friends. The Kellanders are great hosts, sharing with lucky us their warm, inviting, and truly tranquil home and all it has to offer : gourmet kitchen, small personal items which make it feel like one's own home, stunning views, the sound of the water, a deck you never want to leave, a hot tub, the nearness of the Marshall Store and Tony's for fresh barbecued oysters, the list is neverending. I have taken about a thousand pictures and still feel like there aren't enough! And we have cooked and relaxed and played cards and dominos with our friends, explored the trails and Point Reyes Station--and we always leave grateful for the opportunity to visit and the hope to visit again. There aren't enough words to adequately describe this home and the relaxation it provides! 10 September 2013 - 17:46:19

We spent four wonderful nights at Tranquility on the Bay, the house was perfect for two couples. Beautiful view to wake up to, coffee on the deck, kayaking on the bay, great kitchen for cooking several of our meals, cribbage games and birds to enjoy (especially Peggy's visits). We enjoyed a Mozzarella cheese farm tour, including brushing the baby water buffalo, hiking Tomales Point trail with the Tule Elk and wildflowers, whale sightings at the Lighthouse, dinner at Nick's Cove and Osteria Stellina and breakfast at the Pine Cone diner. So many favorite things in a perfectly located home, very comfortable and we would love to stay there again! 07 June 2014 - 01:25:01

Tranquility on The Bay is like a dream-come-true that we have the good fortune to join friends and rent for four years in a row...we always come away feeling happy and ultra-relaxed after four-day weekends here. There is so much to see and do in the area, we always end up hiking a bit, eating a lot and just enjoying the gorgeous deck, the hot tub, the amazing views and sound of the water. The house is well-equipped for staying in and cooking, the furnishings modern and yet not cluttered. Everything here is like in the Goldilocks story: Just Right! We highly recommend Tranquility for all types of getaways, and we thank Fred and Karin for continuing to share this peaceful place. 29 August 2014 - 17:43:37

This property and Tomales Bay were a surprising find. Even though we have been in the Bay Area for 30yrs and have spent time in Stinson, Pt Reyes, etc. we had never visited Tomales Bay. Its hard to put into words how unbelievable it was. The back of the house is literally out over the water, with a nice deck and pier attached. We used their kayak to paddle across to secluded beaches. Walked north for 5 minutes and had a snack at the Hog Island Oyster, Co. Fished off the pier at the back of the house with poles and squid provided by the owners - and caught a few smallies. We were slow to leave at checkout time because we were trying to squeeze a couple extra minutes out of the experience. Sorry Fred. Next time we will do some better planning. 20 October 2015 - 16:06:24

The house was recently renovated and is both lovely and comfortable. We were 2 couples, a friend and an elderly mother. The single person had to sleep on a sofa (not a sofa bed). So "Sleeps 6" really means 3 couples. Other than this slight inconvenience, the house was a wonderful place to enjoy the ever-changing views of the bay and sky, watch the birds and seals go by and simply relax. We cooked wonderful meals, went kayaking and took a fun trip out to the Pt. Reyes Lighthouse to see the elephant seals. It's convenient to the park, Pt. Reyes Station (and the great eatery Stellina), as well as kayaking beaches. 06 January 2014 - 04:29:40

The name "Tranquility on the Bay" says it all. This is truly one of the most tranquil, yet full of life places we've been to. The home is simply, yet beautifully decorated with all the amenities you could wish for. Exploring the surrounding areas kept us busy and the nearby restaurants were fun. We will definitely return. 01 November 2015 - 14:22:36

We enjoyed our stay very much. The owner was great about getting us information and answering our questions. A great place to rest and relax. Loved hearing the waves lapping beneath the main rooms and deck. 20 January 2018 - 01:01:00
