  1. My husband, I and my Mom spent a week in this adorable cottage in Stinson Beach. The house was adorable and truly has the charm of a seaside cottage. It was very clean and suited the three of us perfectly. The views are breathtaking and the sound of the surf at night was mesmerizing. We were fortunate enough to be able to have a fire in the fireplace in the living room. The atmosphere was snuggly and warm. I would highly recommend this property to anyone. The owner was very nice and extremely helpful. We ate at the Sand Dollar Restaurant that was delicious and an easy walk. We would certainly rent this house again if we are ever back in Stinson Beach. 24 July 2012 - 02:51:11
  2. Shell Cottage was such a relaxing place to stay for our family getaway from the city. Michael was great to work with and answered all of my questions promptly. The location is just up the hill from the beach and local restaurants like our favorite the "Sand Dollar". The cottage is what a beach house should be like... clean, light, airy, great peekaboo views of the ocean, cozy and a bbq in the backyard for grilling. It has 2 bedrooms and a loft so it will easily accomodate 6 people (but the kids will have fun in the loft) there is a small kitchen and 1 bathroom but was perfect for the 3 of us. We so enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back! Thanks, again Michael! 21 August 2012 - 22:35:11

My family fell in love with this charming cottage! It is perfect for a family, with two nice sized rooms and a wonderful little sleeping loft for my oldest two. The beds are very comfortable and the kitchen is adequately outfitted for most cooking needs. My husband was initially concerned that we would not be on the beach, but we ended up really appreciating the peace and quiet of being in the hills after a long day at the beach. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return soon! 22 August 2012 - 18:23:00

My husband and I spent 3 weeks at Shell Cottage over the past winter holidays. The house is charmingly decorated in shabby-chic and Ikea. The fireplace works well, and came supplied with wood and kindling....though we supplemented the supply since nights were chilly and we enjoyed a fire most evenings. The electric baseboard-type heaters in all rooms work well, especially when the fan in the living room is on, drawing heat from the high, redwood, beamed ceiling. When the winter sun is out the house warms up quickly -- no heaters needed, even on chilly days. Michael, who manages the property, was most responsive when we had a slight problem with the water heater. He came right out to fix it. The fact that he was a phone call away made us feel secure that any problem would be addressed. The beds were comfortable and the bedding and linens of good quality. With the washer/dryer and laundry detergent all provided (along with any other kitchen or cleaning product you might want), we were easily able to do the necessary housekeeping for a 3-week stay. Although we did not use it, there is a cute loft area in the house, where children would have a cozy nook to themselves. The cottage is clean and well-maintained, with a cute kitchen containing all the essentials and more. Naturally, we cooked quite a few meals in. The nearby market has a lot of essential supplies, but we also shopped in Mill Valley (Whole Foods and Safeway are there), and in Fairfax/San Anselmo, where the Good Earth natural food market has all organic products. Dining out, we ate at the Parkside Cafe in Stinson a couple of times, and found the menu interesting and the food all very good. On Saturday nights they have music -- the night we arrived there was a GREAT jazz group performing. We also ate at the Sand Dollar Cafe, where the ribs were really good and they seem to have musicians most nights. Up the coast on Highway 1 is Point Reyes Station, with the highly-recommended Station Cafe only 30 minutes door-to-door from the cottage. It's a top destination for brunch, lunch or dinner, and the town and larger area of Pt. Reyes offer lots of sightseeing. To the south, other culinary destinations are the Pelikan Inn at Muir Beach, and the Buckeye Roadhouse in Mill Valley, both excellent dining choices. At night I loved the view of lights off the coast of San Francisco, and in the day, the view of breakers down on the beach. We thoroughly enjoyed the cottage, and may return. 15 January 2013 - 06:23:40

My only complaint is that I should have stayed longer!! The home was clean and cozy and we really enjoyed the local beaches. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. We have a 2 year old and he loved running around in the back yard. I would definitely return to this house. So much fun! The town was welcoming and friendly. Bolinas, just north of Stinson Beach, was also a cool little town with a lot of very colorful art. I would definitely recommend this home. :) Thanks for a wonderful little getaway. Side note for travelers: I do recommend you do your grocery shopping before getting to Stinson Beach, the local market has everything you may need but you definitely pay for the convenience! Also, Stinson Beach does not allow dogs on the beach but you can travel just a couple of miles north to Bolinas. 20 March 2013 - 15:10:04

We had a wonderful time at this cottage during 4th of July week (we got EXTREMELY lucky with the weather - high 80s everyday). My husband and I loved the comfy master bedroom with the ocean view, and we could hear the waves crashing on the beach below. Our 13-year old son and his buddy would walk down the hill every morning to boogie-board/skim-board. They loved hanging out at the beach/park. I jogged our pup almost everyday towards Seadrift. We didn't do much on the 4th, but enjoyed the small town and the nearby spots on Hwy 1. It's a work-out walking back up the hill, but we didn't mind...much better than trying to park during a busy week. The enclosed back yard is great for pets. We also had most meals on the front deck. I would definitely stay there again. 02 August 2013 - 05:32:42

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend. It was very comfortable and had everything we needed. The backyard and front porch were very secure for our dog which helped with even better relaxation on our part. She was able to play and explore in the back and take a nap on the front porch. There were plenty of dogs wandering around the block with their owners and all were very friendly. The neighborhood was very quiet with just the sounds of the ocean in the distance. The house is an easy walk to town, grocery store and beach access. We would definitely stay again! 07 November 2013 - 14:56:04

This was a really lovely place for our family to stay! An easy walk down the hill to town and the beach, pretty views, clean and comfortable place, a nice spacious back yard. The area is great fun: hikes, beach, canoeing in the lagoon. The owners might consider adding a few more dish towels, but that is the only tiny issue we had. Highly recommended! 10 April 2014 - 05:29:58

We stayed here May 2014 and had the best time. We had traveled for a week and when we walked in all of the stress went away. Peaceful, clean, tastefully decorated, had everything we needed, beds were comfy and the girls loved the loft. It was truly the best way to end our vacation. Thanks so much for sharing your cottage. 13 May 2014 - 00:48:15

We had a great stay at this lovely cottage. The two bedrooms had comfy beds, and the loft was a great treat for our 5yo. The kitchen had perfect amenities. The neighborhood was quiet and perfect walking distance to the beach & town with an added workout of climbing the hill. The backyard sitting areas were an added bonus too. Be sure to check hooks behind front door when leaving, we left a bike helmet but the owner was gracious to send it to us right away! 15 May 2014 - 02:18:27

I just spent 4 and1/2 treasured weeks at Shell Cottage. The view was so good that i almost did not have to go to the beach. Each nite was an adventure as it was cool and blanket welcomed . When the fog allowed me to see the stars i was dazzled by the art in the sky .almost close enough to touch. Owners immediately repaired a small electrical glitch. I have booked again and recommend to all 23 September 2014 - 22:02:52

This is our second stay here. The cottage size is perfect for my husband and I and our dog. The porch and backyard are fully fenced, so we could let her out with us and not worry about her. The kitchen is nicely stocked with spices and oil, etc. The master bed mattress might need updating, as both my husband and I woke up with daily back pain. Other than the mattress issue, we have no complaints. This home is clean, cozy and well maintained. We will definitely stay here again. 21 September 2017 - 15:49:00

We had an enjoyable stay in Stinson Beach at this cottage and would recommend it. I just want to state a few things. I wish more detail was given in the listing. The house is very old and hasn't had a ton of updates. I guess this makes it quaint. The old wood floors are cool but the old appliances and countertops are not. The carpet in the bedroom looks rather old and there is some wicker type flooring in the other bedroom and hall. It didn't seem like it was vacuumed very thoroughly. The loft is super cool and our 16 year old daughter loved it! The house is very cool if the sun is not out. The heaters don't produce much heat and we didn't want to leave them on when we weren't there. Just bring some warmer clothes. The drive to San Francisco is more like an hour. Maybe this is because the Pacific Coast Highway is closed. Not a big deal but should be noted. The quaint market just down the road is Very expensive! It's worth it to drive a little farther to the grocery store or stop on your way back from San Francisco. The beach isn't far and if you drive down the way a bit there are seals. That was cool. It was very comfortable and we felt the price was reasonable. We would recommend Dylan's Tours and Electric Tour Company of San Francisco (segways). Make sure you get your Alcatraz tickets ahead of time! 18 April 2017 - 23:18:00

I liked the house. It has high ceilings making the rooms seem even bigger. Quiet neighborhood at night and just up the hill from the beach. Loved the proximity to stores and restaurants. The yard is neatly landscaped with a wonderful view. 26 May 2014 - 01:11:58

We just returned from Shell Cottage and it was just perfect...The only bad thing about it was we had to leave! My mother-in-law loved the master bedroom and her view of the sea. The whole house was filled with the sounds of the ocean. Thank you very much for letting us stay at your special place. The Stydujhars 13 October 2015 - 17:24:39
