About listing

One of the last real industrial lofts, steps from the famous Notre Dame Basilica, a renovated factory, vaulting at 16 feet high ceiling (2 stories high), 3 huge antique ceiling to floor windows, super centrally located in the heart of old Montreal, walking distance to almost everything, grand, charming & unique! A true loft experience, this 2 bedrooms space is one of a kind, it's a genuine old industrial space, with very high ceiling (16 ft), two huge brick walls from beginning to end, and a big second floor on which you have a spacious king bedroom and a study area, the whole bordered by a balcony that gives on the main floor. The main floor is a huge open loft concept, with a bathroom (bathtub and shower), an open kitchen, a foyer and a second bedroom. almost every piece of furniture is handmade and carries its own story, the huge windows are sublime and give tones of daylight, sit by one of them, sip on your wine and people watch! it's a happy place with lots of chilling spots:) Please remember that the speakers downstairs are decorative, and that we kept the loft with no TV, but you'll have unlimited high speed internet so you can stream and watch anything you want:) PARKING: We can rent you our private parking spot for 30$ per day with in and out privileges, about a minute walk from the apart, but please request it when you book or we can't guarantee availability. Or you can choose from the numerous overnight parking facilities nearby, with fees per day with no in and out privileges. NEIGHBORHOOD: Can't beat the location, the neighborhood is all you're looking for when you're in Montreal, it's the magical old town, often called the open museum of Canada, and your loft is right in the middle of it. you're literally seconds away from the famous notre dame basilica and the lively historical st paul street, minutes from the old port and the waterfront where you can pic-nic on the lush green well preserved outdoor. you're also 5 minutes walking distance from Chinatown, the convention centre (palais des congres), downtown, the famous place Jaque Cartier plaza, the skating arena in winter, cirque du soleil in summer etc... bars, pubs, clubs, creative eateries and restaurants, unique boutiques and shopping are literally at your doorstep. you are also 5 minutes walking distance to place du spectacle where many major events take place in summer time. you are also 5 minutes walking to the science centre and the historic marche bonsecours in the old port. GETTING AROUND: Very simple and practical, the metro station (place d'armes) is 3 minutes walking distance, or metro champs de mars (8 minutes), Bixy station (public bicycle rentals) is right down the street from your building in summer time, and the bus 55 that will take you uptown and Plateau area stops right at your front door, and of course you're on one of the busiest street so taxis are always a whistle away or you can always call for an Uber:) We wish you a very happy stay, full of love and great souvenirs:) michel and cynthia

Our weekend stay at the loft was fantastic! Nicely decorated, clean, spacious and in the best location in Old Montreal. In walking distance to site see and enjoy a variety of great restaurants and bars. Will definitely be staying here on my next visit to Montreal. 24 May 2016 - 18:59:00

This place is great! It is so centrally located to anywhere you would want to go in the city as a tourist. We walked EVERYWHERE! Notre Dame is less than a block away and the waterfront is a short 7 min walk. The apartment itself is great, clean and comfortable (and artsy and interesting as described!!). It was stocked with everything we needed. The owners were wonderful to deal with and very responsive. There is a parking lot directly across the street (although I think the owners also have a spot you can use with advance notice). The only thing I will note is that there is no A/C. It was really hot our first night and although there were ample, good quality fans, it was a little toasty for sleeping. Also it is on the 2nd story and one of the bedrooms is in a loft so if stairs are an issue for someone this may not be the best spot. Overall the place was perfect and we will definitely stay there again if we come back to Montreal! 05 July 2017 - 18:33:00

Stayed in the Artsy Loft Duplex in Old Montreal last week and was so impressed with the attention to detail that Cynthia and Michel showed, in the decor of their charming loft, in the little personal touches, and in their gracious and patient responses to my many questions about the area. We were there during Jazz Fest and Canada Day and the loft was perfectly located to hit these special events, as well as the Basilique Notre Dame and other local sights. It was a fantastic experience that I would recommend (and have already) to others. Montreal was charming and quaint and having the loft to return to with pastries and coffee in the morning, or wine and cheese in the evening made it feel like we were locals! Hoping to return! 07 July 2017 - 17:54:00

The apartment was delightful with everything we needed. We very much appreciated Cynthia's attention to detail. Her instructions were thorough and clear. The location is great, within steps from the Notre Dame Basilica, shops, restaurants, and cafes. It was a great "home base" while we explored Montreal. 26 July 2017 - 18:08:00

We spent 3 nights at this fabulous loft. Centrally located next to the Notre Dame and blocks away from all of the restaurants and shops along the Old Port (Old Town). We absolutely loved the atmosphere and location. The loft is uniquely decorated and the owners thought of all details to make the stay enjoyable. Our family made some great memories here. Highly Recommended!!!!! 10 July 2017 - 16:35:00

This loft is in a great area of Montreal and we loved the location. It was very easy to get around the city and the beauty of the Cathedral so close was a bonus. We travel a great deal as a family, to many parts of the world and unfortunately we found that overall this stay was one of the more disappointing places we have chosen from HomeAway. The loft can certainly be termed artsy but we found that it was trying too hard to be so. Mark and I are both architects and art educators so we had high hopes for this stay. Certainly the loft is quirky but the quality of the furniture in the loft interior and functionality of the space have been compromised in the name of so called 'artsiness'. The photographs are representative of the interior. However, the images do not show that: - most of the furniture is on wheels and moves at an inadvertent touch; - the bar table is too high to eat comfortably from, is unstable and the wheels are disintegrating; - the barber's chair, while interesting, is deteriorating and certainly not functional as a chair therefore it just takes up space; - the internal circular staircase does not allow one to take a suitcase up to the loft bedroom without significant struggle; - there is no hanging space in the second bedroom; - a spare mattress hides the work still to be done in the second bedroom and thus one cannot move around the bed in this room very easily; - the bathroom has inadequate hanging space for towels and was missing a plug for the bath; - that the plumbing is very noisy and - the small kitchen was under stocked lacking a small saucepan and even a plug for the sink. When we inquired about a plug for the kitchen sink so we could wash up, we were told that it should be there and if not there was a bucket we could use. For us, the price of more than $300 per night did not stack up. We had just spent 7 nights in New York (also booked through HomeAway) in an elegant brownstone apartment with large gourmet kitchen, 2 bathrooms and 2 full bedrooms for a very similar cost to this 4 night stay. Thus we were disappointed. Overall we found the location fabulous but unfortunately could not recommend the artsy loft as a place to stay in Montreal. This loft is trying too hard, the interior needs attention and should be termed 'kitschy' rather than 'artsy'. 02 January 2018 - 01:11:00
