About listing

KGrachthome apartment situated on the Keizersgracht canal on the first floor. It is on the border of the Jordaan district and near the house of Anne Frank. The view on the canal is beautiful as the Keizersgracht canal makes a bend just here, allowing a view up to the Brouwersgracht. The apartment has a separate bedroom with 2 single beds and has plenty of space for luggage. Walk to the '9 straatjes' with trendy shops (1 minute), to Dam Square / Kalverstraat (5 minutes) or to the Leidseplein / Vondelpark. (10 minutes). Most people rank it 5 stars. And they are right. Only do not expect a jacuzi like a 5 star hotel would have. The pictures will show what you get.

This apartment cannot be beat for easy access. From arrival by train and tram to getting around by the free ferry or walking to nearby sites like Anne Frank's house, Rijks museum, Van Gogh gallery, several wonderful street markets and the shops and restaurants of the surrounding canals +++. The view of the canal and bridge from the large front windows was enchanting both day and night. We appreciated the comfortable king bed and updated ensuite shower room. Marcel provided us with detailed information about the property and area, he was welcoming & available and also thoughtful to provide transit cards to save us both time and money. Very happy with our choice to stay at this property, would stay here again and recommend this property to others. 23 March 2015 - 21:09:04

Great communication from the owner, very responsive on arrival at my destination, all set the tone for a wonderful visit to Amsterdam. Great location for all the sight seeing I could do in 6 days. Marcel is a wonderful host and all the little things in the apartment made it a great visit. Little things like coffee in the kitchen to soap in the bathroom. Nice quiet and easy access to food and sights make it a location I would visit again and again. 06 April 2015 - 18:51:41

My husband and I just spent a week at this wonderful apartment. The location was perfect for exploring this amazing city. You can take off walking in any direction and find great shopping, restaurants and sights! The tram was very convenient as well. Marcel left two pre-loaded cards with 20 Euro on each to make it easier for us to access the tram. A huge bonus! The apartment was very clean. The bed was very comfortable and we slept so wonderful after walking 8 to 10 miles everyday! We especially enjoyed the view of the canal to watch the boats go by. Locally, we dined at de Struisvogel, Caf De Reiger and The Pan Orama Caf, the Herring stand across the street and ice cream shops. The food was excellent at all of these restaurants. We also cooked in the apartment 2 nights after buying groceries at the Albert Heijn by the Dam Square. There was a market even closer but we went to the larger one most of the time! Such a great market! We also bought meats, cheeses and rolls for our breakfast in the apartment everyday. The apartment had cooking spices, sugar, oils ~ all the essentials for cooking, plus fresh coffee! Marcel was so helpful and thoughtful with his information to us before we arrived. He is an incredible host! We highly recommend this apartment and would return for our next visit. 15 April 2015 - 13:40:05

This apartment is wonderfully located on a canal near all the city activities. It is around the corner from the Anne Frank house. It is well equipped with a living room, small kitchen, dining area and one bedroom. We had our friends over for dinner and all enjoyed the place and the view. The toilet is separate from the main bathroom so you have to get used to washing your hands in another room (shower room or kitchen) but we got used to that quickly. Marcel is very communicative and clear about how to find the place, check in, etc. He left us a tram card. Which I proceeded to lose. I thought it only had 20 euro on it, but turns out is had 50 euro. Big oops. So make sure you look after the transportation card! 24 June 2015 - 17:39:26

The location can't be beat. It's easy to get to from Central Station. You walk out the door to everything you may need: super market, bike rental, Anne Frank, Herring stand, boutique shopping, canal tours. Walking distance to museums, Vondel park, and outdoor markets. Travelling with my mother it was ideal in that we could go out in the morning, come back for lunch and a rest and then head out again. Transportation passes were provided but we didn't need it as we walked or biked everywhere. Great for people watching. There is a large walk-in shower, with good water pressure. The living room is plenty spacious with big picture windows overlooking the Keizergracht canal. Kitchen has all the basics: stove top coffee maker, kettle, pots, pans, utensils, dishes, toaster, panini maker etc. One person mentioned the church bell that rings and yes it did but you quickly get used to it. We loved this place so much that we've already recommended it to a few travellers. You won't be disappointed. 11 July 2015 - 17:37:21

Marcel and his family made us feel at home, especially when we needed it most. The apartment feels like a home. It is spacious and centrally located; close to shops, restaurants and public transport. In addition it has a beautiful view of the canal and main street, good for people-watching It was very easy to travel around Amsterdam by bus, train, bus or just walking around. Marcel will provide great recommendations for restaurant and activities to do around town. 29 July 2015 - 23:10:49

Excellent location. Easy for public transportation and the metro cards left were very convenient. Lots of good information on what to see and where to go. The living area was very nice being able to look out over the canal and people watch. Kitchen was well equipped. Could not get into cloths cupboards due to bed being too close. Removing the doors would be good. We enjoyed our 5 days in Amsterdam. 11 August 2015 - 18:40:36

My husband and I stayed here for a most excellent vacation week. Although we never met Marcel the owner (he was on vacation, too!), his advance information and website picture helped us find the apartment easily, settle in with the help of Barbara the housekeeper, and defuse a crisis with a stuck window thanks to his backup friend Rika and her husband. The apartment is just as it appears on the web. The bed is large and comfortable; the kitchen adequate; and the canal views outstanding. 2 Supermarkets are close by. Restaurants abound. Amsterdam public transit is terrifically easy to maneuver around especially due to the universal transit chipkaarts that Marcel leaves for renters to use and replace the money spent at end of stay. We've already tried to share our satisfaction with our son who was also visiting Amsterdam this summer but the apartment was booked. Others have mentioned the problem of the bedroom clothes closet: it would be a good idea to replace the folding doors with sliding ones or even simple curtains to allow free access. 19 August 2015 - 22:54:26

This apartment is on the second floor of a three story building that borders on the Keizersgracht canal, one of the major canals that ring the old city of Amsterdam. Great location to access most of Amsterdam's major attractions. The views out of our living room windows were charming and entertaining. The city is served by an outstanding network of trams that will get you close to all of the attractions and interesting places. A tram station is just a few steps from the apartment. Marcel, the owner, provided an excellent personal guide to the city, location of basic necessities, and day trips outside of the city. If it matters to you the apartment is in one of the least architecturally attractive buildings in the neighborhood. The steps up to the apartment, as you might expect in a very old building, require a little more care and attention to traverse that you might experience on stairs in the US. The apartment interior is clean and pleasant if not a little eclectic and the kitchen is well equipped. The toilet is separate from the rest of the bathroom in a small closet sized space off of the main hallway. Beware if you have a sensitive nose, as it is unventilated and they use a very strong "air freshening" deodorant to compensate for the lack of ventilation. We found Amsterdam to be interesting, mostly delightful, architecturally amazing, and, occasionally, disappointing. The disappointment mostly centered around the fact that Amsterdammers do not tend to care for the cleanliness of their city in a manner that we anticipated. It is not uncommon to see garbage collecting in corners, on streets and in the canals. There are lots of smokers, and the cigarette butts collect in the joints between the cobblestones. On one morning we looked out our apartment window to see a 2-3 year old child throw a candy wrapper into the canal as her mother looked on without comment. 15 September 2015 - 21:14:24

We had an awesome stay at Marcel's place. The location was just perfect, right in the middle of everything. You step outside his door and you have the whole city right there- great neighborhood and very safe feeling. Lots of food choices all around within blocks- or a short walking distance. The space itself was perfect for my wife and I. It was charming and really fun to spend our trip in an old building. Marcel was very good with corresponding and contacting him. He was informative with information about traveling around town and little things we should know about that made our stay easier. I highly recommend Marcel's place if you are visiting Amsterdam- you will enjoy it immensely! Thank you so much Marcel for a fabulous stay! 18 September 2015 - 00:11:05

My husband and I loved this apartment. The view of the canal from the livingroom was amazing. We stayed for ten days, and never once were we bored of gazing out of the huge windows as if they were one Dutch Master's landscape painting. The layout of the apartment is also well designed. For two people it was spacious. We had friends visit for dinner, with more than enough room for everyone to enjoy themselves. In addition, I loved the record player and 1980s albums, which was a special treat down memory lane. Marcel was also an amazing host. He let us into the apartment early (which not every host does, even if he or she didn't have guests the previous night) and he changed our towels in the middle of our one-week stay, so we could have clean ones. Who does that? Moreover, he gave us great recommendations for things to see and places to eat in the neighborhood. I should add that the Joordan district, where this apartment is located, just happens to be one of the most wonderful neighborhoods in Amsterdam. The apartment is also within walking distance to terrific shops, restaurants, bars, and the city center. Transportation to the museums is easy (though you could also walk). In short, this rental was fantastic across the board, and we would definitely come back here again, and again. 01 February 2017 - 14:40:07

We found the place to be perfect since the location was near every important place to visit. The view from the home is picturesque and we sat near the windows and enjoyed. The area is safe :) It was clean and ready for our arrival. One day we needed an umbrella and it was at the door for us to use. If you need a good shower, the power and warmth of the water is excellent. We would stay here again. 10 August 2017 - 14:21:00

The Apartment is on the 2nd floor with great views over the canal. Only a short walk to the centre of the city. Great eateries nearby - we loved the Argentinian Steak House. The living area was fantastic with good central heating. Bedroom was a little small for us, but adequate - hard to get to the cupboards. The apartment does need some minor maintenance: repair hotplate; ensure all lights work properly; Kitchen cutlery and crockery (no desert bowls) could do with refurbished and added to; no cooking bowls for the microwave etc. Overall we had a great time - were helpfully and warmly welcomed by our hosts and we can recommend the apartment to others. 28 March 2017 - 13:52:00

We stayed in the apartment for six nights late-December and early-January 2018. We found the apartment to be well-equipped, comfortable and in a great location. It is located in the Jordaan and in easy walking distance of all that we wanted to do, as well as cafes, bars and shopping. Amsterdam was very cold but the apartment was very cosy and a great place to come home to at the end of each day. 16 January 2018 - 01:06:00

My wife, Caroline, and I stayed for a week at this apartment, after a two week trans-Atlantic cruise from Ft Lauderdale, FL. We absolutely loved this place and its central location, within minutes from everything. This was immensely helped by the very congenial and helpful owner, Marcel, who provided us with pre-loaded transport cards, which work on the tram, buses and trains. Marcel along with his wife, who live in the building, were also very helpful with directions and local recommendations. He even printed out some documents I needed. The flat, itself, is very comfortable, with a very good shower and comfortable beds. Not luxurious, but very functional and comfortable. The price reflects that very adequately. The view out the enormous windows, overlooking the canal is "to die for". We could have just sat there watching the world go by for the entire week and certainly spent a fair amount doing just that. Given the central location, the amazing view and the wonderful owners right there in the same building, this is a wonderful place, I would recommend to anyone! In the center of everything you want to see in Amsterdam, with grocery, restaurants and taxi or public transport. The view from the living room window to the canal outside makes it perfect. Hop on Hop off bus and canal boat stop locations at the corner. 29 December 2017 - 06:12:00

This is an excellent location close to the Anne Frank House, trams and buses. Beautiful windows overlooking the Keizersgracht canal from the comfortable living room. The bedroom was a little cramped--hard to open closets--but the bed was comfortable and room was quiet, in the back of the house. Lighting is a little dim throughout the place. Kitchen was well-stocked and host Marcel was gracious and accommodating, providing prepaid chip cards for public transportation during our stay. Not fancy, but a very good choice overall in a wonderful location! 01 November 2017 - 02:43:00

My wife and I spent a week in this apartment in mid-September 2017 and really enjoyed our stay there. The apartment is on the second floor and the stairs thankfully weren't too narrow as we have had on other stays we have had in Europe. There are very large windows that overlook one of the main canals of Amsterdam which is probably the best thing about the apartment. We both loved sitting next to the windows in the morning and evening and just watching the canal boats, bikes and people going by. The apartment is only about a one minute walk to a tram stop which can take you directly into the old central section of Amsterdam. An added bonus is that Marcel, the apartment owner, provided us with two OV-Chipkaarts pre-loaded with 50 euros on each of them so we could freely use them on the trams, buses and trains. He only asked us to pay him for the ChipKaart funds we used during our stay. That was very helpful for us and we easily rode the trams and train in and out of Amsterdam using these Chipkaarts. The toilet of the apartment is in a separate room off the hallway and the bathroom has a nice shower and sink off the bedroom. The beds are soft but comfortable. The apartment is fairly quiet at night and the kitchen is fine. There is a gas range with one burner that doesn't work and the refrigerator is typical for Europe with a freezer. Utensils are on the sparse side but OK for two people. Not a modern apartment, but it was fine for us. Overall, we would certainly book this apartment again and would highly recommend it for two people who are looking to be close to all the sites of Amsterdam with a great view of one of the main canals (Keizersgracht) of this historic European canal city. 23 September 2017 - 20:15:00
