About listing

This is the ideal flat from which to explore London and all the major attractions, located near to four tube stations and on major bus routes including the Heritage 15 tourist route from the Tower of London to Trafalgar Square. The flat is 150 meters from the Tower of London with Tower Bridge only a little further away. There are always taxis to be found in the area, as the flat is near to several hotels. River buses and cruises depart from the pier next to the Tower of London. At the end of the street (Pepys Street) is All Hallows Church, the oldest church in the City of London dating back to the 7th Century. Many famous figures have made their mark here; it is where William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania, was baptized here in 1664; John Quincy Adams, 6th President of the US was married here in 1797, and where Samuel Pepys watched the Fire of London from the church tower in 1666. Guided tours are free of charge although donations gladly accepted and run between April and October. They also offer guided walks throughout the City for a small charge. Well worth a visit and only 3 mins walk from the flat! There are many pubs and restaurants within a few minutes walk of the flat, including American (Bodeans), French, British, Asian, and Indian. If you don't mind walking a bit further, along a route which hugs the Thames, the Narrows is in Wapping is worth a visit. There is also Brick Lane which is a street almost solely devoted to food from the Indian sub-continent and worth a visit in the evening for the smells, lights and sounds, even if you're not feeling hungry! St Katherine's Docks is worth a visit. It is a small marina, which also contains cafes, shops and restaurants. It is on the far side of the Dock that you'll find Waitrose, the larger supermarket near to the flat, as well as a Starbucks if you want something more familiar. If you cross over Tower Hill bridge and turn left, you will find some really nice (and a bit pricey) restaurants with lovely views back towards the flat across the river. From here you can walk West towards 'the Eyeball' the Mayoral building towards Tate Modern. You will usually find some interesting art being displayed along the South Bank of the river on this route. You can also walk to Sir Francis Drake's ship the Golden Hinde, and you can walk back over the Millennium Bridge to St Paul's Cathedral and back to the flat. I recommend the Jack the Ripper Walking Tour of the East End which held at night and starts from the Tower Hill tube. You might want to read up some related history before you go to really get you in the mood to be spooked! Also in proximity to the flat, you can explore St Paul's Cathedral and I recommend a trip to the top provided you don't mind a lot of steps, or alternatively why not try a visit to the crypt? You can also take a tour of the inside of Tower Bridge and see how the cantilever works and enjoy the views from the top of HMS belfast. The Monument, which marks the side of the Great Fire of London has some nice views of the local area. I made the trek to the top when 6 months pregnant (just), though I think the views from the top of the Mint Hotel, which is adjacent to the flat, are better, and they also do fantastic cocktails and bar snacks if you're so inclined. Shakespeare's Globe Theatre is definitely worth a visit, particularly if you visit in summer when you can attend one of the open air productions. For £5 you can stand or if you'd rather, there is plenty of seating. And of course a trip to the West End should be included in any stay to partake of one of the varied productions that are on all year round. My favorite Friday or Saturday activity is to walk along the river beside from the Tower of London to London Bridge and across to Borough Market where you can buy lovely fresh produce from around the country, specialty cheese and wines, and even ostrich stakes should you fancy some. Afterwards you can sit on the terrace with direct views of the Gherkin, or in one of the nearby parks, and enjoy your purchases. This flat is ideal for a single, couple, or small family. There is a UK King size bed. In addition there is a sofa that converts to a small double bed. Bedding for both is of course supplied as well as towels etc. I have a 5 night minimum policy as shorter stays are uneconomical for me. The only exception is if I happen to have a shorter space between bookings, and it that case I will consider shorter rental periods. Please check my VRBO calendar to see what the availability is as this is kept regularly updated.

Our family (kids ages 8 and 10) spent a wonderful week in this flat. The location is really amazing! It is just steps to the Tower Hill tube station, from where we could easily go anywhere by tube (we got Oyster cards for the week). It was so convenient! The Tower of London is also a short walk away, and we loved visiting the Tower and walking by every time we went out! Lots of good restaurants and a very nice grocery store are nearby. Empress of India was our favorite Indian Restaurant (they are a short walk away but they also deliver!). In addition to the perfect location, the flat was such a great place for us. The views are wonderful and everything we could think of was inside the flat (from the well stocked kitchen to extra guidebooks, hair dryers, umbrellas and more!). We loved having the washer/dryer right there in the unit. Amanda has been such a pleasure to work with- thank you so much for all your help and for always taking the time to answer our many questions. We really highly recommend this flat and are hoping to come back ourselves for another vacation! 07 September 2014 - 21:05:51

My husband and I stayed in this flat for ten days prior to a Baltic cruise. It was our first time to London, and we could not have been happier with the location. The flat is about a two-minute walk to the Tower Hill tube station, and the train station is literally just a block behind it. The neighborhood seems very safe, and it's an easy walk to the Tower Bridge, Tower of London, and to St Katherine Docks, where there are lots of up and coming restaurants. The flat is in a lovely older building, and has been updated with modern amenities, including dishwasher, laundry (washer and dryer) and a large refrigerator. Everything was clean and in working order. While the kitchen might technically be considered "efficiency," as it is not separate from the living room, it is well designed so that preparing meals is easy. We usually had breakfast in, and also a few suppers. There are a couple small convenience markets nearby, and a much larger full-service grocery store about a 15 minute walk away. We were very fortunate to have warm and sunny weather the entire time we were in London, and there were many evenings we enjoyed a glass of cold wine on the terrace just off the living room after walking miles and miles seeing the sights. The balmy summer air, the view of the Gherkin building, and the beautiful sunset skies made for a perfect end to the day. The bedroom is quiet and comfortable - the bed is very comfortable. The bathroom is spacious and has a great shower and tub. We found many tourist publications in the flat - including a wonderful book of London walks, of which we did three. The book - wish I could recall the title - was not recently published, but had amazing information on small and out-of-the-way historical sites to see, which we would have entirely missed on our own. We were in touch with Amanda a number of times prior to our stay, as we had to change plans, and she was always responsive and even checked in once while we were there to be sure everything was as we had expected. This flat is a great place to stay while visiting London - highly recommended! 07 September 2014 - 21:45:04

My Husband and I and our two children (ages 9 and 12) stayed in Pepy's Flat in London for a long weekend. This was our first trip to London but found this to be a perfect location. The flat had every amenity we needed and was quite comfortable. Very clean and welcoming! We found everything to be in walking reach but the tube was close by for any further ventures. Plenty of close by restaurants and conveniences. Patio was a great feature- great for coffee and breakfast in the mornings. This was our first time using VRBO - and would definitely use it again. The owner was very responsive and so easy to work with. We hope to visit London again and stay at Pepy's! 08 September 2014 - 01:43:27

My husband, 17 yr old daughter and I chose Pepys Place because of the location and the amenities and we weren't disappointed. As you've read from other reviews, the flat is literally a 2 minute walk to the tube which in itself was so easy to decipher. It was so nice to be able to do all the tourist things that we wanted to do, get on the tube and then pop into our flat. We were greeted by the doorman, Jon Pierre, who was so helpful with directions and anything we needed. He was wonderful! He pointed us to the closest grocery where we purchased food for breakfast and snacks. It was nice to have a kitchenette with everything you need for the perfect start of our day. Amanda answered any questions that we had. She gave very easy directions to enter the flat and there were pamphlets, guides and instructions in flat for all the appliances which I needed especially with the washer/dryer! It's different than American ones I've ever encountered. The washer/dryer was another big reason why we chose the flat. We found that if we ran the washer/dryer at night, it got very warm in the apartment and there's no A/C. But, there's no A/C in anywhere! Overall, I can easily say that my family would LOVE to come back to this flat again. I hope we can visit sometime in the near future! 12 September 2014 - 15:31:24

My husband, our 14 year old grandson and I stayed five nights and this apartment worked out very well. The location was perfect for using all the public transportation. It was close to some "reasonably" priced restaurants and pubs. The apartment was very neat and clean. Our grandson liked the sofa sleeper in the living room with the TV and the door between the bedroom and the living room provided both with some privacy. The patio door was hard to open but when we were there the weather didn't permit eating outside anyway. 20 September 2014 - 23:04:40

This was our 2nd stay with Amanda at Pepys Street. Our first stay was in 2010. Amanda has continued to update the flat and provide a wonderful place for all of us to stay and visit London. We have stayed all over London and nothing beats Pepys Street. We spent 17 nights there this trip. It is 1 minute from the Tower Hill tube station, the surrounding properties are mostly hi end hotels/restaurants, and the convenience is superb. The flat has all the amenities you need: washer/dryer; very comfortable American queen sized bed; comfortable sofa bed; efficient kitchen; large bathroom with shower/tub; nice little terrace for having coffee/tea; and all the necessary supplies we tend to run out of during the rental that most owners expect you to replace. Amanda has thought of everything. If you are looking for a very reasonably priced, safe, comfortable flat while you are enjoying London look no further. This is where you need to stay. Thanks again Amanda for making us feel "at home"!! 21 December 2014 - 22:09:58

This was our first time renting a flat while traveling and I admit I was a bit nervous, but we were not disappointed. Our family of four (2 adults and 2 older teens) stayed at 1 Pepys Street for a week over Christmas. Throughout our communications in planning for the trip, Amanda was incredibly helpful and very responsive, even offering suggestions as to how we might purchase tickets for a soccer match. The flat is small but very comfortable for a family of 4. Two of us slept in the bedroom and two in the pull-out sofa bed. Plenty of linens, blankets, comforters, towels, etc. are provided. The kitchen had everything we needed (pots, pans, glasses, mugs, silverware, knives, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, oven, etc.) to make several meals during our stay, including Christmas Eve dinner. There are a number of small grocery stores in walking distance. This was helpful in saving some money because London is VERY expensive. The bathroom has a shower and tub and plenty of hot water for 4 people to shower. The flat also has a balcony with a table and chairs. Even in December I was able to sit outside and have a coffee and enjoy a lovely view of London City and the Gherkin. The free wifi provided and the ability to use the telephone in the flat to make local calls was very helpful in making our stay more comfortable. In terms of location, this is the perfect place from which to explore London. Amanda's description in this listing is completely accurate. We felt extremely safe and comfortable in the neighborhood, even at night (and in December, nightfall was around 4:30pm). Many of the most popular sites in London are easy walking distance from the flat with beautiful riverwalks along the Thames. One of the highlights of our visit was the Borough Market on the south bank just across London Bridge just a 15 minute walk from the flat. Also within a short walk are the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, St. Paul's Cathedral, The Globe and Tate Modern. If you like to walk, you can also reach Westminster Abbey and Big Ben in 40 minutes walking along the beautiful riverwalks. For those sites that are further away, the Tower Hill tube station is pretty much right out the front door of the flat. Purchase an Oyster card and you are an easy tube ride from anywhere you want to go in London. If we ever have the opportunity to visit London again, we will definitely return to 1 Pepys Street! Thanks Amanda. 28 December 2014 - 18:43:33
  8. Our family of 3 stayed here for a week last August. I can't really add anything that hasn't already been said in these reviews--all of the positive reviews about this flat are true. It's clean, modern, safe and ideally situated. The owner really is super helpful. We've used VRBO for more than 10 years, and this is the best. Will defintely stay here again, and highly recommend to others. 10 February 2015 - 16:33:02

the flat was a great choice, great view off the balcony to sit and have a glass of wine or cuppa. the bed was super comfy and loved how there was a dyson fan. ( i cant sleep without one) quick walk to the tower of london, or jump on the river boat, and tube was a quick step away as well. they had some construction going on next door that was the only down side. and there was some road work as well so the rerouting to get to the store was an adventure at first. really enjoyed this location, and was surprised at some of the views i would see people watching in the hilton next door... guess some people dont realize people can see them walking around naked or other things! ;) was good entertainment though! went to the resturant as well, and had a lovely dinner and dessert, though the prices for a drink at the bar were a bit much. better luck at the pubs around the corner. i would recommend this place to anyone! and the doormen were great, they let a friend of mine temp park his car in the underground garage. that was a fun treat to ride in a car elevator and exit out on the street! you will love this place, and well worth the price, compared to hotels around in the area!! thanks! 05 March 2015 - 00:48:05

This place couldn't have been in a better spot in London. It was in walking distance to just about everything. Literally a 1 minute walk from the tube, coffee, donuts, souvenirs, a park and 10min walk from Tower of London, Crown Jewels, Tower Bridge, plenty of places to eat and go shopping. The flat is equipped with all the necessities of an apartment and was supplied with plenty of toiletries. You will not be disappointed and we will be returning as soon as possible :) 10 May 2015 - 16:46:54

I took a day after arriving home before compiling this review just to avoid "getting caught up in the moment." In short, this property delivered and then some. It was ridiculously close to underground and train access points, next to hotels for taxis and information, quiet neighborhood(great after a full day of sightseeing), close to food markets and coffee shops, safe and secure access, large comfortable bed, all necessary amenities, modern appliances, very clean, and a good-sized balcony for afternoon tea or just chillin. The owner is genuinely interested in helping the renter enjoy London with a high-quality property of exceptional value. Her suggestions during the planning stage were extremely valuable and proved to be insightful. My wife and I have used vrbo in a number of locations and we would rank this property at the top of the list. There was a piece of mind with this unit that enhanced our overall London experience. 24 July 2015 - 00:13:25

Would definitely recommend this flat for two people. The location couldn't be better. We were in the flat for a week and ate in every night courtesy of Mark's and Spencer's wonderful selection of carry out food. After miles of walking everyday, this was a wonderful way to end it. The concierge could not have been more helpful. He said many people preorder a weeks worth of groceries, have them delivered to the flat, and the concierge puts the refrigerated items in the refrigerator, and you are good to go. What a concept. Could not find fault with anything other than people being too loud at the end if the street. Windows needed to be closed to sleep. 28 July 2015 - 21:52:32

We spent a wonderful week in London, with this excellent flat as our home base. The flat had everything two adults and two younger teens needed. The kitchen was well-equipped, and the unit accommodated the four of us with a comfortable bedroom and adequate sofa-bed. But the location is the real story, steps away from the Tower of London and its adjacent tube station. And a great value too! Highly recommended. 10 August 2015 - 01:03:42

My wife and I stayed in this remarkable flat for nine days in late April 2015. We can only echo the positive experiences of other reviewers. It was safe, clean, quiet, comfortable and an ideal location for sightseeing. Because of the location, we took great interest in Samuel Pepys, supported by a wonderful visit to St Olave Hart Street and a meal at "The Pepys" on Stew Lane, and continue to read his daily diary entries through Amanda was approachable and efficient, and all aspects of the transaction went flawlessly. She also provided an excellent set of resource materials to help explain the appliances, technology and other workings of the flat, as well as a great deal of information on what to see, what to do and where to eat and shop. Very highly recommended. 23 August 2015 - 13:17:20

My husband and I are just leaving after a 5 night stay and if I don't write this now I will never get to it! We thoroughly enjoyed every step of our first VRBO experience, the property was perfect for us, a favourite location close to Tower Bridge. Quick access to the tube, but plenty to occupy us here. It was a family catch up for us so would love to return and do some tourist things. Missed the Design Museum sadly, loved Burrough Market and happy we discovered it the first day! The owner was very helpful and the flat was perfect, we would stay here again and certainly recommend it for couples. 12 October 2015 - 10:22:49

We decided at the last minuite to go to London for Christmas in 2014 and contacted Amanda thru VRBO and she helped us out tremendously, literally at the last minute. She was quick and prompt with email and feedback. I cannot thank her enough for making this trip happen for me and my husband, it was a very special trip for the both of us. The flat was nice and perfect for our needs. We felt safe and the area is quiet, which is nice. Sorry Amanda that this review is soooo late, but circumstances didn't allow me to till now. So thank you again Amanda and we hope to use your flat again in the future! 06 November 2015 - 02:11:22

A few things really attract us to this apt. First were the 77 positive reviews. Not one complaint. Next was the descriptive writing skills of Amanda, which gave a great overview of the apt and the area. All accurate. Next was that Amanda did not ask for a deposit, whereas many other apts that we were interested in wanted anywhere from 200-450GBP deposit Shows that Amanda has a quality product, and attracts quality tenants. Everything that Amanda describes, was just so. I just wish that the weather was warmer so we could have enjoyed the terrace. That would have been great for enjoying a glass of , wind and the view. We had a great time and the apt had a lot to do with it. By the way,, if you like martinis, try the Ritz hotel bar, and the bar at Dukes hotel. This is the one that Ian Fleming frequented. All in all, a great time and the apt had a lot to do with it. Also, heads up to Zack, the concierge. He was a great help. 02 December 2015 - 13:49:43

I stayed in this flat for a week on a business trip, and it was very comfortable, convenient and a great value for the money when compared to the hotels in the City. Amazing view of the city skyline from the terrace. I would definitely stay here again. Amanda was so easy to work with. 07 June 2016 - 00:05:28

We enjoyed our stay this flat is a great location we felt very safe here and it was quiet. Loved the fact that it was so close to the river bus which we used frequently. We had great weather and used the patio a lot to relax with a glass of wine. We got a little warm at night but we used the Dyson fan which helped and kept the windows open. In a city like London where things get a bit pricy this flat is good value for money. Jean Pierre the concierge was great he was a wealth of information and made us feel very welcome. 14 June 2016 - 11:51:14

A great stay in a fabulous apartment. Can only agree with previous reviews where it has all been said. Big ticks for size, amenities, location. Walking distance to tube, buses handy, plenty of pubs to explore. Highly recommended. Will certainly earmark this one for a return visit. 12 January 2018 - 13:02:00
