If you are looking for a house to stay in Maui / look no more. This house is gorgeous: spectacular views, fully equipped and in good taste, amazing gardens.. a small piece of paradise! We are a family of five and the house was perfect for both kids and adults. The location was central and all we needed for our activities was found in the house, including beach and barbecue accessories. We even got a welcome wine bottle and a fresh pineapple! 14 August 2017 - 13:58:00

This house is as nice as it looks in the pictures. It's clean and very spacious. There are several great places for hanging out. Also, great place if you're allergic to cats. I am and I had no allergy issues here!! 19 August 2017 - 18:56:00

This is a well kept home with a beautiful view of the island. The house was well equipped with the items you needed to make food and be comfortable. It also had beach equipment to make your trip better (chairs, umbrella, and towels). It was nice to have the laundry facilities as well to wash clothing. Owners were great to work with as well. 26 February 2016 - 15:20:00

We had a wonderful time at the house up on the slopes of Haleakala overlooking Kiehi and towards West Maui. It was very nice being away from the more crowded and hotter areas of Maui such as Wailea. Perfect covered patio in front and an open one in the back where we grilled on the Weber. It was well equipped with everything you might need for your stay in Maui, including the option of purchasing 'Maui towels' and beach bags. Char was great in making sure that we had everything we needed and was very responsive to a couple of queries that we had during our stay. We highly recommend the local restaurant, 'Kula Bistro', a creative, Italian place with mouth-watering dishes! No reservations taken and you may have to wait a short while but well worth it. The kitchen was well stocked with condiments etc. and the bathrooms were well supplied with nice shampoo and conditioner. Laundry facilities were welcome since everyday we were at 'snorkel bootcamp!! All in all we had a great time in Maui (it's hard not to!) 31 August 2017 - 22:31:00

Been staying upcountry for almost 10 years and the property we loved is gone so we were looking for a suitable replacement. I believe we may have found it. Char was a perfect host and very helpful. Loved the house and the amenities. Would definitely stay again. 09 September 2017 - 22:27:00

Char responds quickly to questions and is helpful with local information. The home is perfectly laid out and was great for our family of five. The area is quiet and the views of the valley and mountainsides are amazing. The location is absolutely perfect for touring the island within a few days. The home stays cool in the evenings due to the location elevation but is hot at day. Negatives: We were not informed of a second home being on the same property with a caretaker permanently residing within. We also were not informed that this person would be using the outdoor (covered) washer and dryer. This was not a real issue but my wife was frightened one day when I had left and the caretaker thought we were not there. My wife was washing clothes and came out to find laundry in the washer and was taking it out when the caretaker suddenly appeared, my wife used the words "She jumped up", from behind the half wall to scare her. We understand this was a mistake but thought the caretaker being on the property should have been revealed to us prior to booking the house. The other negative that we also are understanding of are the geckos around the house. We agree they are natural exterminators as Char mentions in her welcome book, but it would have been nice to be able to close the lovely wide screen doors that must remain open for cooling the house down each day. Since the house has no A/C, it's a must that the glass doors remain open and the screen doors shut, but they are aged and do no seal either in the middle where the latch is nor at the rear where they meet the glass doors. This allows those cute little guys inside the house. My wife and kids were not happy to see them in the shower/bathroom, or their bedrooms. There was no way to resolve either of these two negative issues so we did not feel it needed to be addressed with Char at the time, but others renting the house should be aware, this is an open floor plan with no A/C and the screen doors do not seal, as well as there being a caretaker on site that uses the same washer and dryer at the house you are renting. We were able to laugh about each of these negatives and remain firm that this is a lovely home to stay in at a super location. Another point, two towels were bleached out after washing. We used Char's provided detergent, we could only conclude it must've been from the caretaker's use of bleach left in the washer. A claim was filed on our CSA Prop Damage Ins. So get this! 28 September 2017 - 22:44:00

Beautiful property. Well appointed with all details given care and thought. The design of the house gives a light and airy feel and the views are beautiful. While spacious and open, the rooms seem to go on and on, with different indoor and outdoor enclaves in which to sit and relax. I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to small and large parties of guests. 26 October 2015 - 19:36:29

Didn't have enough time for all there is to do on Maui. the "Up-country" location of this house is perfect. Easy to get down to the beach and quick to get to the top of Haleakala. Loved the feeling of space - lots of room for 4 or more people, nice amenities. We will return! 27 October 2015 - 01:05:19

I have to admit that there was some apprehension as we left the Maui airport for our VRBO rental house in Kula. During previous visits to Maui, we had always stayed in Lahania or Kihei and this was the first time we had stayed Up Country, instead of near a beach. But, to put it succinctly, this Kula home exceeded all expectations! It was a fifteen minute drive from the airport using easily followed directions. We arrived about 6pm as the sun was setting on the West Maui Mountains and the sunset was spectacular. My first impression as we entered the home was that it belonged in Architectural Digest. There seemed to be more glass and windows than walls. Polished tile everywhere plus a first class kitchen with all the electric goodies one could ask for. Artwork and sculpture dominated each interior room. It took a day us to realize the advantages of both a covered lanai and an open one at the rear the home. Between all the windows and sliders as well as the cool evenings, we never had to use the air conditioning, a distinct advantage to our past beach front accommodation. All in all, we had a fine Hawaiian vacation and this home helped make it perfect. 14 November 2015 - 14:50:54

We love Kula as it's off the beaten path, it's quiet and the views are the best! This house was very comfortable, in an easy location, and so peaceful! We loved eating the papayas, splashed with lime right from the property. Avocados too! Unfortunately, we were quite busy this trip as we were looking at houses the duration of this short trip, so we had little time to spend at the house. We did stroll around the neighborhood and met some of the friendly neighbors. We are soon to move to our own house on Maui - yay! So we won't be staying here, but if we get tired of the parade of visitors from the mainland we are sure to see, we will recommend this place to them. 31 December 2015 - 06:09:49

Staying at Char's is like staying at a 5 star hotel (minus the fine dining, though you could bring a chef with you). Every little detail is looked after from fine linens, chocolates on the pillow for arrival, champagne flutes, luxurious towels, lovely soaps and proffesional kitchen and grill for cooking. The veranda is amazing for watching sunsets and sunrises, often I would cuddle up with a blanket and cup of tea of the comfortable furniture and was in a completely serene setting. Waking up in the master bedroom is also a plus with the stunning views. Char was extremely helpful with ideas and recommendations of places to visit in the area. I was traveling with a toddler and she told us all the best places to go with little children. All three bedrooms are really comfortable, the flow from the outside to the inside of the house is wonderful. The house is stocked with games, dinnerware for a large group and the garden provides fresh organic fruit. Close by , less than 5 minutes is an excellent French Cafe. I think Kula is the nicest place in Maui as the weather is a bit cooler. We still did day trips all over to Wailea, Puna and even Kaanapali, the driving is not bad and the peaceful home is well worth staying in. We highly recommend this property and will be visiting again in the future. 09 January 2016 - 03:03:22

What a wondeful stay! It's hard to find the words to describe the mix of tranquility and luxury. Beautiful views and landscaping, clean and peaceful home with lots of extras. Great place to relax after a busy day. Wish we could stay longer. Book it before your dates are gone 12 February 2016 - 19:15:37

AMAZING home set in the hillside of Kula. Breathtaking views of Maui (facing west). The home and grounds are absolutely stunning; the pictures do not do it justice. Char is delightful and should definitely teach other VRBO renters how to do business! We were on the island of Maui for a friends wedding (being held in Kula at private property) and decided to rent a home instead of staying at a hotel. BEST DECISION WE MADE! Although Kula is semi far out, it did not stop us from exploring the island and visiting the more touristy towns all the while, enjoying the peaceful nights in Kula. THIS HOME IS ABSOLUTELY STUNNING AND A GREAT PLACE TO RENT IF VISITING MAUI! 07 June 2016 - 19:39:28

We absolutely loved our stay at the Sunset Villa on Maui! The online description was perfect... the villa was exactly as described and pictured. We like hiking on Haleakala, and the villa is very well located to make it up to the park entrance in a short time. We also like staying in luxury accommodations, so this was the ideal VRBO for us! Weve stayed in the Up Country Maui area twice before, and nothing compares to the comfort of this location. Celeste was an extraordinary hostess, coordinating well in advance with us, making sure all went well as we got settled at the house, and ensuring that our stay was everything we had hoped for. Tremendous master bedroom, wonderful outdoor areas, great kitchen, great shower and baths as well! We loved that there were high-end washer/dryers so we could conveniently do some quick laundry during our stay. The special touches... furniture, decor, kitchen amenities, and the wide range of great books and reading materials about the island... made our stay that much more enjoyable. What a wonderful retreat!! 21 November 2017 - 07:33:00

This is a wonderful vacation rental. Having stayed at many different rentals over the years, this is the only one we keep coming back to. Architecture is unique, bi-coastal views are stunning and complete with rainbows. House is well equipped, even with a stock of spices and cooking essentials which is greatly appreciated. 15 December 2017 - 17:09:00

We had the most amazing week in Maui celebrating the Holidays & my brother's 60th birthday. The Island Sunset Villa was the perfect place to call "home"! Char, our hostess, had a small tree & a box of Christmas decorations ready for us to start the celebrations. She also brought us Autograph leaves that we wrote on & put on the tree. (They safely made it home to be incorporated into our yearly favorites!) We each had our favorite spot in the villa: the bath house for showering off after a day at the beach; both lanais for sunset watching, evening cocktails & star gazing; the Arizona room for morning coffee & evening games or the fruit trees in the back (after a hard rain one night, there were limes all over the ground, enough to make seafood ceviche). However, the kitchen was my favorite! Can I take it back to Indiana with me??? Actually, I was wondering if I could just stay at the villa forever--do you think future guests would mind? Thanks for a fabulous week in your 5-star villa! Best vacation ever! 06 January 2018 - 22:17:00
