About listing

Welcome to the Penfield mansion. Please check out my brand new aerial video tour of the property by scrolling to picture number 2 in the picture set and pressing PLAY! Once the home of Frank Sinatra, Clint Walker and Roger Miller in the 1970s who raised his whole family here, this house is amazing with exceptional history that can be felt in every room! The hit song, King Of The Road was actually written by Roger Miller at the bar! We strive to provide a comfortable, safe and professional environment. The property sits on the top of a hill, all by itself on over an acre of land with 360-degree views of the whole city and is completely gated and secure. You have total privacy from all angles. There are no neighbors able to see the land or the house. Take a tour and see for yourself! High speed internet and cable TV included free of charge. The house also has a built in 10 speaker JBL sound system for radio, CDs, Ipod, MP3 players etc. Parking for 20 cars on premises. See pictures for complete details on the house layout. I just completed a brand new driveway, expanded in width to accommodate 2 way traffic all the way up and down the hill, beautiful paver stones in the beginning of the driveway. Tons of additional outdoor lighting, landscaping and design. I expanded the main grass area in the backyard to 5000sqft and replaced the real grass with fake grass as well as built a lookout point for wedding photography. Totally flat and beautiful. The neighborhood is very nice and quiet. The house is at the very end of a culdesac, children can ride bikes in the street, its very safe. There are tons of fabulous restaurants in the area including Roys, Flemings, Ruth Chris, Benihana etc. all within 5 minutes. All beds have the highest quality Egyptian cotton'Royal Velvet' fabulous down alternative comforters, very high count Egyptian cotton sheets and pillow cases, down alternative pillows and also firmer pillows to suite your taste. Bathroom towels, and large beach towels for the pool are always provided. Ping pong table, mini golf and pinball games on premises. I also offer my guesthouse for rent, which is a separate structure located in the front of the property for an additional $150/night, or I price match the Woodland Hills Hilton hotel if it happens to be cheaper on any given night. It's 650sqft, freshly painted, has a Cal King and a temperpedic queen bed, 50in HD TV, private kitchen and bath, dishwasher, AC, bbq and private deck/patio with jacuzzi (upon request). If you don't decide to rent it, it will just be vacant during your stay. I do not rent the guesthouse separately, it is only offered to whatever guest is renting the main house. Thank you for your time and consideration! Do I charge more for parties over 20 people? -Yes. Pricing depends on how many guests, the age group of the guests, the type of event, will alcohol be sold or given away, special setup needs, entertainment, how many nights the house will be booked, how many guests sleeping at the house etc. I custom price every event or large gathering because every one is very different, so just send me the details and I will give you a quote. What are the options for sleeping extra people? -On top of the 4 bedrooms (1 cal king, 3 queens, a twin and a full) I also have 1 real queen mattress that can be setup with bedding upon request. Also, plenty of extra blankets, futon mattresses and couches. Cancellation Policy- I always kept my cancellation policy set to the "90 days before check in" option for a full refund policy. Recently, VRBO took that option away and made it 60 days, but I still enforce my 90 days original cancellation policy on vacation rentals. For events, weddings, large parties etc, my cancellation policy is 1 year from the check in date due to the complexities of wedding and big event planning. I don't mind switching a date for free on weddings and events, unless the date is within 3 months and I am unable to rebook it. Thank you for your understanding.

My experience staying at the Penfield Mansion was excellent. I used the house for a party I had for about 40 people. For starters the house is bigger than it looks in the pictures. The kitchen is fantastic, the pool table was a hit, and the sound system was easy to use and allowed for music to play not only throughout the house, but outside as well. The master bedroom is just about an apartment all in itself. There was plenty of room for people to spread out and get comfortable, which allowed for groups of people to hang out together as well as for people to hang out in a more private setting when they desired to do so. The bedrooms had multiple beds in them which allowed for guests to stay over. In addition to the beds in the bedrooms there are couches throughout the house where additional people can crash if need be. The outside of the Penfield Mansion is fantastic! The view is amazing, and the backyard is huge. The putting course was fun, and although we did not use the pool and Jacuzzi they were definitely a nice touch. The parking in the front held 15 cars, we did have to park some cars down the hill; however, it was to be expected due to the amount of guests that attended the party. The owner of the house Michael was very fair. I had to call him a few times and he made himself readily available. We did have a couple of accidents in the house, and when I talked to Michael about them the next day he was very understanding about them. He was extremely fair in relation to the costs of the repairs. I would also like to add, that when I was cleaning up some stuff I noticed there was a rip in one of the chairs. I told Michael about it, and advised him I wasnt sure if one my guests had ripped the chair or of it was already there. Michael was very honest in saying it was already there versus trying to charge me for something he knew I did not do, which was something I really appreciated. All in all, the Penfield Mansion was a five star experience, and I would definitely recommend the home for both big and intimate parties. Furthermore, I would also recommend the home as a place not only for out of towners to stay, but even locals that are looking for a fun and relaxing change of scenery. Thank you again for letting me use your home Michael, I will definitely use your home again for future events. 28 October 2015 - 04:59:52

We had a bachelor party for just one night. A bunch of guys getting together to share their rare bottles of beer with their friends and the future groom. The owner was in constant contact to make sure we didn't need anything and was always available to turn on the the lights for the pool area, the grotto, and the jacuzzi. It was a very good stay and had more than enough room for 10 guys. Would stay here again definitely. 30 October 2015 - 06:17:12

The Penfield Mansion is a great venue. HUGE kitchen, plenty of lounge areas to hang out in, one with a pool table, theres a bar with working pinball machines and right next to that is a marbled floor room suited for dancing. There are 3 bedrooms on the bottom floor so if you have friends over and they dont mind sharing its perfect, the owner can provide extra mattresses. The master bedroom is the perfect place for a bride and her gals to get ready. Large bathroom, huge closet and the shower could probably fit about 10 people! Our ceremony and dinner were held outside and we had about 70 guests. The chairs, DJ and alter all fit nicely. We had 7 round tables and the food was set up on the patio. Everything was in one spot so no one had to go anywhere. There are no lights outside so youll have to set some up yourself. A pool that can be heated by request, a grotto with a waterfall, a little golf area AND a trampoline, dont use it. The one negative about the backyard is that the grass is a bit uneven. We urged guest NOT to wear heels and that worked, just be mindful of older guest, it could be really easy for them to fall. PARKING. Parking is limited, you can fit some cars in the driveway BUT if youre having an event with a lot of people youll have to use offsite parking and get shuttle service. You coordinate that yourself but its easy. Offsite parking is on the street along Pierce College, which isnt far, BUT its next to a soccer field where games are played so it can fill up! Be mindful of that for day events. Also keep in mind, this is NOT a wedding venue, its a home. Its a lovely home but you will have to do some planning AND since the owner does book it throughout the year, youll have to coordinate site visits when they do walk-throughs for other potential clients. So get ideas and questions together ahead of time and see if your vendors can go at the same time. Take lots of photos for reference and to show vendors if they cannot make it. The owner was pretty helpful with answering questions like outlet locations outside, offsite parking etc. All in all we loved the house, our guests loved the house, it was a cool vintage feel to everything with the dcor and it provided a nice spot where people could have fun and dance in one area and then go and chat in another area without having to affect anyone else. It was a pretty memorable time and I really do feel like the Penfield Mansion played a big part in that. Have fun! 05 November 2015 - 06:30:30

I wish I could give 5 stars, Michael deserves 5 for his customer service but unfortunately there were some hitches to our stay. No wedding goes perfectly and ours was no exception. The driveway had just been repaved (good thing right?) except it was the day we were supposed to move our things in and start setting up so we couldn't drive or park on it. This meant lugging everything up a very long steep hill on foot. It was not the owner's fault, as we later learned the paving company did not meet their proposed completion times. However I had some guests and family almost pass out from heat exhaustion from the many trips up and down that hill, along with the neighbors voicing their unhappiness to my guests when we had no choice but to be in their way. Michael (the owner) wasn't able to give us a welcome walk through so there was a lot of figuring out what switch did what but, he was always available by phone or email and responded right away!! There were plenty of towels for us to use for the pool, we never ran out of toilet paper or anything like that. The kitchen had some pots, pans and other things to use for cooking but it's best to make sure you're prepared to serve the food yourself (plates, cups, knives, forks things like that). I didn't feel like that was a negative thing. I'm sure people take those things all the time anyways. After the first day of troubles we all had a good soak in the spa everything else was perfect. Anything you need or want just ask. Want the outside lights turned on, just ask Michael and they are on, want the spa on, just ask and seconds later it starts to warm up. Michael is so warm and welcoming every time we talked. We had toured the property months before we stayed and he had made sooo many upgrades! The old grass in the yard was gone, and replaced with really nice turf! The new driveway fits many more cars and I know he's working on making the place more and more wedding friendly for the future. The pictures don't do this place justice because you just can't capture that kind of character in a photo. There is so much to explore and even after 2 days we were still finding fun nooks and crannies to explore. Overall our guests had an amazing time, our wedding was magical and I would totally come back again. 13 September 2016 - 16:42:50

I rented this property to host fmaily for Thanksgiving, and it was perfect. Very spacious, with tons of activities for the kids (ping pong, pool table, pool & spa, putting green, etc) and a very large kitchen/family room perfect for everyone to congregate and enjoy our time there. The views are incredible fomr this property, and its very close to lots of amenities like grocery stores and restaurants. Michael was a very helpful host - incredibly helpful with questions before and during our stay! 27 November 2016 - 23:01:21

We had our entire (HUGE) family here together for Christmas, with lots of babies as young as 2 months and a 71 year old grandpa. This was the perfect relaxing and festive atmosphere for our first full reunion in more than a decade. The 360 views were amazing, plenty of parking, wonderful lawn and convenient location. The kitchen/den was the center of activity. Grandma was very happy. The kids lived on the netted trampoline (built into a cliff - so no climbing up and down and what a view!) with some dips in the pool and hot tub. The pool/hot tub lights and outdoor speakers made for colorful, fun-filled evenings. Everyone enjoyed the pinball machines and a few pool sharks showed the rest of us how it's done. The outdoor sauna was a funky, cool little heated pod. Plenty of couch space and gorgeous bathrooms. Though not enough private bedrooms for each family, there are plenty of rooms. Michael was very accommodating providing extra mattresses and the parking lot held our cars and an RV. Gorgeous sunrise every morning and quick to Costco, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods or Malibu!!! Many of us dubbed it "the best christmas ever." We'll be back! 09 January 2014 - 13:00:40

I rented Michael's house this past weekend for my friend's 30th birthday. The property is very spacious and welcoming, perfect for an event or just for relaxing. Definitely a good experience!! 23 October 2013 - 04:42:27

I had the most magical wedding at this estate!! The house is beautiful on the inside and out; from the unique atrium, to the unforgettable bar, the awesome pink water fountain, the breath taking views of the valley, the relaxing beds outside and the one of a kind waterfall. Just when you think you've explored the whole estate you find some new and unique detail. The bathrooms are awesome, each one unique and cool! The upstairs master sweet is beautiful, with 2 balconies, and a bathroom you have to see to believe! My wedding was truly unforgettable, and the best part about it was the location. It was perfect for the relaxed backyard feel we wanted, but still classy enough for a wedding. So many of my guests commented on how awesome the estate was. We especially loved that the house had a bar room in it! There is also the perfect room for a dance floor. I honestly could not imagine a more perfect location for a intimate wedding. We had about 70 guests in attendance. We rented it for the whole weekend which made it great for out of town guests to stay and a great place to hang out the day before and the day after the event. Everyone wanted to come back so they could swim in the pool. Mike, the owner, made the whole process stress free and easy. He was very accommodating. After all, I was planning MY wedding!!! He was always quick to answer my questions, as silly as they may have been, and allowed me to visit the estate several times before my big day. He was friendly and wonderful and made the whole experience just that much easier and better. My new husband and I, and several of our friends have already started talking about renting the house again for whatever excuse we can come up with! I don't have a single complaint or a single thing I would change! I would give this review 100 stars if I could!!!! Perfect and Unforgettable. An absolute dream come true. If you're thinking of renting it I definitely say do it!! 26 September 2017 - 22:31:00
  10. Let me first say that this house may suit some groups and some circumstances. I am an admittedly picky person, with very high standards, and modern tastes, but if you're willing to settle for "pretty good" then this might be your spot. My co-host, who was the actual renter, loved it. Certainly it boasts a plethora of amenities you won't find anywhere else. Fun for everyone! That is, if you can figure out how to get them to work. Among other things, we encountered pinball machines that were not positioned to reach outlets, and a putting green without putters (we had to call for their location). We also encountered a large pile of party gear (folding tables and chairs, carafes, etc.) in the middle of the main patio. We called to make sure it was ok to move them. The owner told us they were supposed to be there and that it shouldn't matter because our party was only supposed to be a small one, though I'm not sure how our party size relates to what was not only a major eyesore, but a serious hazard as they were quite precariously in the way of the path to the pool. We moved them. I think this house may be good for a multi-family get-away where you want to be able to stay out of each other's way. I found it challenging for a party because the layout is such that containment, and thus critical mass, is impossible to achieve - it is too big and disjointed. Perhaps a very large party would fill the space adequately. I will say that at least one of the stars, is for the owner's willingness to allow parties. I know that this is hard to find in the vacation rental market and I am grateful that we found a place where we could gather. However, it would seem that the parties have taken a toll. There is a general quality of grime and disrepair. And I won't even go into how poorly appointed the kitchen was. Suffice it to say that there wasn't even a wine bottle opener. This oversight was compounded by the 30 or so sticky and barren drawers that every person in search of some basic utensil or dish had to go searching through before realizing that the kitchen was essentially empty (To be fair there were pots, pans, and a few mismatched bowls plates and cups. No serving dishes. Bring your own dishes for a party of more than 10). To end on a more positive note I would like to acknowledge and thank the owner for being available to fix the various issues we encountered. Though, obviously I would have preferred not to have encountered them to begin with. 18 June 2016 - 22:17:09

The view and grounds were spectacular and all 11 of us plus 4 more visitors fell in love with the view and ate , drank and played outdoors almost all the time. There was a myriad of areas to sit, play pool or games around the house with an enormous kitchen that allowed all of us to mill about and eat at leisure. Michael the owner was totally available and accommodating throughout the entire process. 06 December 2017 - 09:50:00

This home was clean and ready for us when we arrived. The owner was more than accommodating to our additional requests when we needed something. Location was perfect...easy to get anywhere. VIEWS were awesome. Comfortable beds and large kitchen were great for our large family. The nostalgia was pretty cool too. Pinball machines and a pool table made it fun for our teenagers, and the hot tub and pool were the perfect ending to each busy day. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. 10 January 2018 - 23:53:00

We really enjoyed our long weekend at the house. As mentioned by many other reviewers, Michael the owner was very gracious, helpful, and available for anything at all we needed. The views were lovely, the location was excellent for our purposes and the house very spacious and livable. 13 May 2013 - 17:56:46
  14. I had my 30th birthday party here, and it turned out to be a great choice. There is a ton of space, several bedrooms and bathrooms, a game room, a bar area, a HUGE kitchen and living area, and lots of space outdoors. It's removed from neighbors so a little noise isn't a big deal. There's also a lot of room for parking. Mic was really nice and very responsive by text if I had any questions. This is a great place to have a small party or gathering/event. Would definitely come back! 30 July 2013 - 04:43:35

My husband and I contacted the owner, Michael, 9 months before our wedding date and he was happy to assist us. We were planning our own wedding and searching for a beautiful, relaxed, private setting for our ceremony and reception. This house was just what we were looking for! Michael was extremely helpful and prompt in answering all of our questions about the house. We live on the east coast, so trying to plan and prepare without visiting the house involved many inquiries, and Michael was patient and helpful throughout. After our arrival, he continued to be quite helpful, coming by when there were any house issues, and quickly responding via text to our simple questions and requests. He was very flexible and easy to deal with, even accepting our chair/table delivery shortly before we arrived for check in! The local vendors (nearby Cafe Fiore; equipment rental; shuttle service) had no trouble finding the place. As for the house, the photos don't do it justice. It is GIGANTIC with PLENTY of room for our 80 guests. We held our ceremony on the lawn to take advantage of the gorgeous view. The ground was a bit uneven in places, so be aware that chair placement (and elderly guests) may have a few issues. I removed my heels and could walk down the aisle no problem, but if that's not an option, consider wedges or Solemates. The PA system actually only runs by the pool, in the pool table room, and in the dining room. We needed it in to reach the bar, patio room, and ceremony in the yard too, so we had to rig our own speakers/wires to do so. Just something to be aware of. Our guest list grew larger than originally expected, so some dinner tables were placed outside on the patio, and the rest were inside the patio room (we were lucky it was a very warm night in February!). We served our dinner buffet style, and there is a HUGE long counter in the kitchen which worked perfectly for this. The seating throughout the house allowed guests to find their own private conversation areas and activities before & after dinner, which was nice. With the doors open, the flow from pool-table-room/outside-patio/bar/patio-room worked perfectly, and people were able to mingle and dance well. All in all, I got nothing but compliments from our guests. They loved the house and it's history and had a great time. If you can adjust and roll with some of the quirks and character of it, I would HIGHLY recommend this house for a wedding, family reunion, or similar celebration. 03 March 2016 - 00:59:53

I stayed at this property to celebrate my engagement. My stay was wonderful. The property is massive and there was plenty of room to accommodate 16+ guests. I did not host an event but the kitchen and outside area seemed easily large enough to host an event of 80+ people. The grotto area and pool give the property a nice touch. All of the bathrooms appear to be newly remodeled. The host was extremely easy to work with and was very responsive to any questions or needs I had before and during my stay. Since this property is up on a hill, there are great views from everywhere and you also have complete privacy from the neighbors. Sound does travel down the hill though so be sure not to have loud music on outside during the late hours. I would highly recommend this property for anyone wanting a large place for a getaway or anyone who wishes to host an event! 14 December 2016 - 20:50:00

We rented the house for our wedding at the end of October. The view is incredible. The house is very nice though, it could use a really good deep clean. Of all that homes that we looked at this was the ONLY one that did not have an outrageous price increase/party fee/wedding fee for it. Micheal was/is very easy going and courtious. If we were in need of something or had a question during our stay he was on top of it -responding within minutes. There were some cleanliness issues that we found with the house and wished it had been cleaner -other than that, we had no complaints about the property -we did not contact him about that though. This house is big and roomy. Michael seems to be working on the property all the time to get the house to its full potential. When we first looked at the proprty spring 2016 the rear lawn was hilling and uneven. In the time between our viewing and our stay he replaced the lawn with astroturf. During that time he also repaved the driveway. Our overall stay was pleasant and enjoyable. We did have to do some work on our own to make the house acceptable for our guests for the wedding. What we appreciated most about this property is: it is straight forward and fair (there are no hidden fees no ridiculous costs for a wedding) as we found at other properties. 07 November 2016 - 21:27:00

At first I was doubtful about staying in. Once, I went on tour twice I felt this was the place to stay. Mike made everything conforting for me. I will definitely do a stay in this place again. It has nice entrance, bar and a party room to a big kitchen. Will definitely recommend it to anyone having a birthday party or any event. 25 January 2018 - 08:32:00

First, The house does not look like the photos. We rented this house for my husband and our four adult sons to stay together for our niece's wedding. We also wanted to have space to have our extended family over for brunch after our niece's wedding. The house is called a "mansion," but it is hardly that. It is more a party house, for things like bachelor and bachelorette parties. There is a pole for pole dancing in the party room, so if that's your thing, this is perfect. The backyard proved to be fine for the brunch/lunch, but the furnishings and the state of the house showed neglect. It is as though someone somehow got ownership of the house but cannot afford to maintain it. The house had numerous items that were broken, including the bar sink with blue tape across it; the shower in one of the bedrooms; the fountain outside (with "Do not touch" sign), the trampoline, (Also with a "Do not enter" sign). The pool and hot tub were filthy. I could go on about the signs throughout the house saying things like "Do not touch" or "If you touch you will be charged $xxx.00." I would highly recommend replacing and updating the furniture, painting the house so it looks less like a brothel and more like a nice house, as it is advertised. On the upside, the owner did provide thorough instructions although we never met him. The house cleaner was there when we arrived and provided the key to the sliding doors. There was no key to the front door. 09 February 2017 - 21:08:00

We had a wonderful experience at the Penfield mansion for a gathering of 50 or so people. Bar, party room, large kitchen and comfortable living room worked out perfectly. Several fireplaces at the property was very enjoyable. Beautiful views as well! Outdoor space and grounds were very well kept with lighting at night. Pool table, ping pong table, pin ball machines and lots of grass to play kept the kids happy. Michael was so easy to work with and answered all my questions in a short period of time. Highly recommend. 16 January 2017 - 20:07:00
