About listing

This sumptuous, 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms apartment, huge 170 square meters, with a fully equipped kitchen is located on the exclusive rue du Bac in the heart of the famous Saint-Germain-des-Prés in the chic 7th arrondissement of Paris. This vacation apartment is the perfect alternative to a luxury hotel for your stay in the city of lights. It is on the second floor and has 2 interior staircases leading to the children’s bedrooms and a separate mezzanine. The apartment has been outfitted by the owner, a French architect, with all the modern amenities and comforts one would expect in a 5 star hotel, while retaining the old world charm of this historic 18th century building. The building is a Paris « Hotel Particulier » (mansion) built under Louis XV around 1723. The flat itself was lived by famous writer and politician André Malraux who wrote the « La condition Humaine » while living there. Parquet floors, sunlight, 4.5m (14.8 fleet) and 3m (9 foot) high ceilings, terra cotta, ancient wood beams, 18th century French antiques and modern comfort characterize this gorgeous fully equipped luxury Paris apartment rental. My family of four and another family of three spent five perfect days in this beautiful apartment. Michel is an amazing host-- when we arrived, the refrigerator was stocked, not just with basic supplies, but bread, wine and savories. The apartment is spacious, beautiful, and fully equipped with kitchen equipment and laundry facilities, and well set up for both privacy in the multiple bedrooms and large gatherings in the dining/living area. It's also shockingly well located-- a short few minutes by foot to the Louvre, and the Seine. We are already hoping for a return. 23 July 2016 - 12:46:14
  2. We loved our stay in Paris, in many thanks to the terrific apartment, wonderful care and attention of the owner, and perfect location. As fans of architecture, we loved the authenticity of the building and, therefore, the apartment. It was like living in a modern version of an 18th century home. The neighborhood was great and perfect for avid walkers like us. Our three teeange kids also loved the apartment, and the location, close to many Parisian cafes, boulangeries, patisseries, shops and stores. From there we were easily able to walk to Musee D'Orsay, Notre Dame, the Louvre, etc. We're already looking forward to going back! 05 April 2010 - 13:41:32

My family and I stayed here for a week. It comfortably accomodated the 8 of us. The owner was very helpful in answering all of our questions, providing information regarding car service and greeting us when we arrived. The apartment is clean and well maintained. It is located right in the heart of Paris with great shopping, cafes and museums nearby. The I would definitely reccomend this apartment to a friend. 13 April 2010 - 17:01:25
  4. I cannot recommend this apartment more highly. We visited in early August 2011. There were two families - 4 adults and 4 teenagers. The building is wonderful from a historical viewpoint, yet the apartment held all of the modern amenities we desired. The owner was extremely helpful and pleasant, and made us feel welcome and well cared-for. The neighborhood is very convenient for all sight seeing, and there were plenty of restaurants, grocery stores, bakeries and drugstore/pharmacies in close proximity. Visit without hesitation! 15 August 2011 - 18:04:42

We had six fantastic weeks here on rude du bac. i could write a short story on the adventres we had in paris. much of our fun was because of this spectaular flat. a true gem. perfect location. beautiful, calm entry. SO very french. not too fancy. it is a piece of authentic paris. monsier Colnat (the owner) is a charm. so very polite and kind and helpful. we will go back again and again. our group was diverse and mixed and every person that came through the door loved it. from an 80 year old world traveler academic to a 7 year old sports fan. (and everyone in-between) the teenagers loved it the most. ewnjoy your stay here! 08 September 2011 - 14:16:57
  6. This was an absolute great could walk everywhere or take the Metro which was across the street on Saint Germain...great cafe's and shop such as Ralph Lauren.....Musee D'Orsay, the Louvre and Rodin Museum around the corner.....great apartment with lots of room for entertaining and kitchen with everything you need if you want to stay in.....lots of history in the building if you are into that...Andre Malraux wrote a book called "La Condition Humaine" (Man's Fate) which was prize winner while he lived a the apartment.....the recent film "Midnight in Paris" was filmed in the area and one of the scenes was done in a store upstairs, I am not sure of the name but we visited a few times....initially it looks like a small garden store but when you go upstairs you will be is two doors down from the apartment.....also if you walk down Rue du Bac towards Montparnasse you will find a large grocery store that my wife called "Whole Foods" on steroids 17 October 2011 - 15:48:13

The apartment is just as pictured - large and roomy - very comfortable. Our party had 3 women and 4 teenagers and the 4 bathrooms (3 w/showers) saved us! Great location, we walked everywhere and took the metro. Lots of shopping, cafes, restaurants nearby. Close to the Seine, Louvre, Musee D'Orsay, Rodin Museum, and Eiffel Tower. We walked to the Luxemburg Gardens to exercise in the mornings and then stopped at a wonderful bakery on the way back to the apartment. The owner was very friendly and helpful and left a book of recommended restaurants and directions to grocery stores and the best chocolate shop in Paris. I can't say enough about how wonderful this apartment is. 26 June 2012 - 01:26:24
  8. Our family of 5, including 2 adults and 3 kids (ages 8/10/13) stayed here in June 2012. The location could not have been any better for our needs, we were close to 2 Metro stops and only 5 min walk to the Musee d'Orsay and the Seine River, 10-12 min walk to the Louvre and 15 mins to Notre Dame --- you could even walk to the Eiffel Tower if adventurous (more like a 30+ min walk). The neighborhood was also terrific with a modern grocery store very close by as well as a number of great restaurants, cafe's and bakeries. Compared to our original plan of getting 2 hotel rooms, renting this apartment was a home-run decision -- way more space at less cost plus added convenience of a full kitchen and washer/dryer. The owner Michel was a terrific host and had even graciously stocked the refrigerator and kitchen with a few basic supplies upon our arrival. The apartment is old and has lots of unique character, and it is clear that the owners have a passion for art and took great pride when decorating the apartment (which made me a bit nervous with kids ;-). There is a healthy flight of stairs one needs to navigate from street level to the apartment, so if mobility is a challenge or if you absolutely require an elevator then this may not be the best option for you; also, two of the four bedrooms are really best suited for children or highly agile/adventurous adults as accessing those two bedrooms requires navigating a circular staircase with low headroom. Overall, we had a great experience and would stay here again and would highly recommend the location, the apartment and its owners to our friends. If this is booked, I would also recommend looking at for apartment alternatives as many of those looked terrific but had no availability when we booked this apartment. 09 July 2012 - 22:03:39
  9. We stayed at this apartment for about 1/12 wks and loved it. Our group consisted of my father, mother, aunt, wife, and two sons and all enjoyed it greatly. The location is ideal. Many mornings started with a quick trip to the Eric Kayser Bakery 2 blocks down the street. The Grand Epicerie is a skip away, metro station 1 block, Monoprix next door, Louvre and Musee d'Orsay easily reached on foot. Well equiped kitchen and we ate many great meals in. (it's a hard habit to break once you get started on the cheese shops, markets, and bakeries!) Great apartment and great location, thanks again! 30 August 2012 - 04:01:44

Returned here after an absence of more than five years. I had forgotten just how nice it was. Our party consisted of three adults, and two kids aged 7 and 9. The apartment suited us perfectly. Ideally situated, what sets this apartment apart is that it is not sterile. It is a real Parisian apartment, that has been furnished by the owner as a place for him to stay, not a sterile environment furnished just enough to make it rentable. Very comfortable. The owner's attitude makes all the difference. His welcome set the tone for our week in Paris, and we really appreciated the lengths he went to in terms of stocking the apartment prior to our arrival. Once inside, it is very peaceful, with very little, if any, noise from outside. We were sorry to leave, with the owner bidding us a gracious farewell, helping us out with our bags, and keeping us company until our shuttle arrived. Highly recommended for a great stay in Paris. 30 September 2013 - 14:22:52

this is a wonderful apartment for entertaining. i once lived in paris so was happy to have the elegant living room and comfortable dining area. all of my friends thought i was lucky to have discovered this welcoming space. i agree! the neighborhood is ideal for food shopping, both deliciously prepared dishes and top quality fresh ingredients. the owner has provided a variety of table settings. maria, his friendly housekeeper, was ready to help with clean-up, including washing and ironing the linen. the upstairs bedrooms are best suited to children. my own seemed huge, with tall windows onto the quiet courtyard and a large bathroom. my daughter and son-in-law had their own private suite with a desk. the area is popular, therefore touristy, but the quiet apartment was a perfect refuge. 13 October 2013 - 18:15:22

We loved our stay at this terrific Rue du Bac flat. The two upstairs rooms above the dining hall are perfect for children (the celings are low, so tricky for adults, but our daughters loved these rooms). The flat is lovely and has real character, with its wooden beams, high ceilings, and plenty of light. Rue du Bac is a busy street, but we were never bothered by noise. The street facing windows shut out all the noise, and the interior windows overlook a quiet, lovely courtyard. The owner was helpful and accommodating, easy to reach and quick to assist if any hassle arose. The location has its share of tourist traffic but is very central, feet away from the St. Germain / Rue du Bac intersection, a 5 to 20 minute walk to the Mysee D'Orsay, the Seine, the Louvre, and the Tuileries gardens. We had a wonderful stay, loved the place, and would recommend it very highly. 13 October 2013 - 22:13:17

We loved our stay at Rue du Bac. The location is perfect, close to shops, market and nice french bistrots. Also near Louvre, the Tuilleries and Muse D'Orsay. All of these are walking distance. We were a family of seven with two small children. It was perfect to accommodate all of us. Michel was very receptive and gentle with us, never forgetting to give us all necessary information and help and being very friendly with us and the children. Our stay was for 4 lovely weeks. I would highly recommend this flat specially if you need enough room and confort. Also, the kitchen is very well equipped. We all hope we are able to return as soon as possible to spent such a wonderful vacation! 24 February 2014 - 20:46:58

An historic apartment in a classic building, with all the modern conveniences! The owner was a gracious host, including providing passes to a wonderful exhibition at the Musee d'Orsay. The apartment was impeccably fitted out, and fresh fruit and flowers greeting us were superb. Food shopping was so easy. Monoprix across the street and Nicholas and Kayser one block away. Lots down the rue du Bac ending at the Bon Marche. Downstairs there is Gaya and Le Prince Jarniniere and Arthur & Fox. What a wonderful home! Merci Michel! 20 July 2014 - 18:57:50

Our family of five stayed here and had a fantastic experience. This is a very special place. The owner, Michele Colnat, was very easy to work from the very beginning and extremely welcoming upon our arrival. It is described accurately, it felt like a luxury hotel with the privacy of our own home. We really enjoyed being able to walk out the front door and have easy access to museums, shopping, restaurants, etc. We all agree that we would love to return to Rue de Bac someday. It made our first visit to Paris a real success! 10 August 2014 - 20:55:06

After many trips to Paris in both rentals and various apartment rentals, my husband and I booked this apartment for our family of 4 plus our nanny. We were greeted by the owner, who had stocked the fridge with basics and various pastries for our kids, which was so nice to arrive home to after traveling for 10 hours. The space was great, with bedrooms on different parts of the house, allowing privacy for our nanny and the kids. It had great linens, beautiful bathrooms and a well-stocked kitchen if you are looking to take advantage of the local farmer's markets. We are already planning our next visit. 28 December 2014 - 22:12:05

My wife and I rented this wonderful apartment from September 22, 2014 to October 19. Everything about the apartment and its great location in the 7th Arrond, are so attractive that we plan to rent the apartment again from mid-April 2015 to mid-May. As regular visitors to Paris, we have rented other apartments in the past and stayed at a number of hotels on both the Left Bank and Right Bank. If you are going to spend more than a few days in Paris, this apartment is the ideal place to stay. 10 January 2015 - 19:53:56

We have just returned from a MONTH long stay in this lovely apartment and HIGHLY recommend to anyone considering an apartment rental. The owner greeted us upon arrival and carried luggage up for us and had the apartment stocked with necessities and plenty of breakfast items...along with wine! He replied promptly to any email questions before and during our stay. The apartment is furnished BEAUTIFULLY and VERY SPACIOUS....plenty of space for our friends and family ...we had our 3 grown children and a son in law with us for part of the time...loved gathering in the early evenings with champagne and cheeses in the large living area before going to dinner and the dining area was a big space for all for breakfast. (The floor to ceiling windows across the front of the apartment are beautiful and the view looking up and down the street and at beautiful buildings sure will be missed.) The two master bedrooms and baths are quite large compared to any other rentals we have had.....VERY comfortable. The two "children's bedrooms" were quite nice for adults...with access for those bedrooms to two more bathrooms. Another huge plus is the LOCATION is absolutely the BEST in easy walk to the highlights of such a lovely neighborhood without a lot of tourists....Monoprix across the street and Le Grande Epicerie just up the street...restaurants all around.....metro, bus and taxi stand just out the door....lovely small boutique shopping on side streets all around apartment. Forgot to mention Maria, the housekeeper, came weekly and did a wonderful job cleaning and doing laundry! A very nice bonus since we had friends and family coming and going! Thank you, Michel, for the opportunity to celebrate my big birthday with family and friends in your beautiful apartment. We hope to return soon! 28 November 2017 - 14:25:00

The owner met us at the property and took his time and showed us the entire apartment, etc. Fresh flowers, some food and drinks in the kitchen, quite lovely. Thank you Michel, we hope to stay at your wonderful place again on our next trip to Paris. 03 January 2018 - 15:48:00
