About listing

The first thing to know about this apartment is that it is located within strolling distances of so many wonderful bakeries! Oh yes, and landmarks too - Notre Dame, the Pantheon, Luxembourg Gardens, Jardin des Plates, the Sorbonne, the Seine, Boulevard St. Germain, etc. are all just minutes away - yet the apartment is so peaceful and airy, looking over trees and green gardens to the spires of Notre Dame (and Sacre Coeur - off in the distance on the hill of Montmartre). Even in the kitchen you have a big window to look out while you wait for your coffee to brew. It is on the top floor of a 4 floor walk up (it`s a typical old Latin Quarter building) but as soon as you walk through the door you are in your own Paris world. No feet pounding over your head at midnight! As the building is situated in a courtyard behind the street building, one hears almost no traffic/restaurant noise. But when you head out, you will find yourself in the beating heart of old Paris. Rue Mouffetard, the oldest street market in France is close by. Hemingway, James Joyce, George Orwell - all lived in this corner of the Latin Quarter and Woody Allen`s 'Midnight in Paris' was filmed just up the road. If you need to get somewhere in a hurry, you will find a metro at either end of the little cobblestone street (rue des Boulangers, 75005 Paris for google earth!) Better still, we have 5 brilliant bus routes that take you all over Paris - for example - the #86 winds through tiny left bank streets ( you could almost touch the lovely shops sometimes) and 20 minutes or so later you have stopped right under the Eiffel Tower. And at the other end of the street there is the #67 which crosses the Seine and winds up through various neighborhoods to Montmartre (about 45 minutes) So much cheaper and more fun than a tour bus! If you get a weekly pass you can get off in an area you would like to explore and then get back on again later. Such a nice way to get to know Paris. There is supermarket across the street , open until 10pm every night (except Sunday). And of in addition to the bakeries there are lovely food shops to drool over everywhere you turn. That`s when you appreciate the stairs!! There`s a very friendly cafe on the corner, Le Petit Cardinale, where you can pop in for whatever you fancy from 8am until midnight daily. Or just sit outside and people watch for hours. As for the apartment itself: It has one bedroom, but it sleeps 3 comfortably. The king size bed in the bedroom is actually 2 twin beds if needed, and the sofa in the sitting room is a proper custom made sofa bed. There is a walk in closet. In the bathroom the shower is attached to the wall above the bathtub. There is also a bidet. The kitchen is small but well equipped, and there is a microwave/convection combo oven and a 3 ring gas stove top. Also a dishwasher, a washing machine and a dryer, iron and ironing board, hairdryer, etc. I have tons of books, including guidebooks, an eclectic selection of CDs. and an apple laptop with wifi connection. Oh, and TV with CNN,BBC news, etc. Finding a place to rent in Paris can be daunting as there is SO much choice online these days, some of it a little misleading, so you do need to be wary, and if you have any questions you would be wise to telephone and speak to the owner. This may be a special trip for you, an anniversary perhaps , and you want to be sure you find somewhere to stay that lives up to your expectations and will enhance your Paris experience so you will have memories for a lifetime. In this case, this IS my home, and I have set it up accordingly, so it has the comforts and atmosphere of a real home, not a rental unit. I come over from San Francisco twice a year for a 2 month stay, and bring whatever creature comforts I find lacking in Paris! If you think my apartment might be a good fit for you, just e.mail me with any and all questions, and feel free to call me too. (415) 533 8871. That`s in San Francisco. All the best, Deirdre

We have stayed in this apartment several times and never tire of it. It is charming. The owner has done an excellent job of providing high quality linens and bedding, plenty of information about the area, and a fantastic music selection. When you wake up in the morning and see the Towers of Notre Dame from the breakfast table, you will know this is the way to enjoy Paris. The location is perfect. The apartment is located very close to the junction of the north-south and east-west metro (subway) You can get to almost anywhere in Paris very quickly and easily. There are also excellent open air markets nearby(and a grocery store within a few meters) to stock the kitchen with all you would need. 26 January 2011 - 20:42:05

As soon as I saw the pictures of Deidre's apartment on VRBO, I knew it was the place for us, and I was right. The pictures and description are accurate, but don't really do the apartment justice. My husband and I woke up our first morning to the bells of Notre Dame, and to the cooing of doves in the courtyard. We have been to Paris many times, but haven't ever rented an apartment before. We are convinced that we found the only one we want to stay in on our next visit. The location was superb -- convenient to a wonderful array of restaurants (we especially liked The Petit Pontoise), to the Metro, and walkable to many of the best Paris sites, including Ile de la Cite, Luxembourg Gardens, the Pantheon, etc., etc. Deidre was concerned for our comfort -- even called us to check that all was well -- and Marie-Noel was there to greet us and show us all of the apartment's amenities (having a washer and dryer was great!). The four flights of stairs were daunting at first but, by the end of our stay, we took them in stride. All in all, we had a wonderful 10 days. Thanks you, Deidre, for sharing your little gem with us. 02 August 2011 - 21:03:05

A truly charming and delightful apartment and neighborhood. I wish I could stay forever. I chose it to be near a class in needlepoint but fell in love with the apartment immediately. I arrived with my daughter and granddaughter and we had the most marvelous weather for their stay of 12 days. Isabelle bought a trottinette with her Paris money and scooted all over Paris and Versailles. In the beautiful weather, we walked for at least 4 hours per day. One day we spent most of the day in the apartment for Isabelle to finish her homework and that was wonderful, too. We thoroughly enjoyed the butcher, the baker and the hardware store owner. I felt as if I had been here forever. Besides visiting the attractions, we mostly enjoyed our daily routine of shopping for dinner and feeling a part of the quartier. My daughter had never been to Paris before and wants to come back to your apartment for a honeymoon that she never had. I spent my birthday here this year and we ate out at Le Beaurelais (our favorite restaurant) and went to Vivaldi's Four Seasons at La Sainte Chapelle. Our first full day we went to La Foire aux Brocantes et Jambons at Ile de Chatou. That was on my bucket list! Megan, my daughter was particularly enamored of the week-end brocante markets and we spent hours browsing. It was WONDERFUL!!!!!!! 23 October 2011 - 07:36:35

If you like the Left Bank of Paris, this apartment is a gem. It is situated in the 5th arrondissement, literally less than half a block from the metro and a 7 minute walk to Notre Dame. The owner of the apartment is a delight to work with, responsive and communicative as is her on-site apartment manager in Paris. All amenities are present-dishwasher, washer/dryer, microwave, computer and very easy to use. There is a supermarket less than 1 block from the apartment and a Kayser's bakery 3 blocks away. Highly recommended for the solo traveler or for 2 people. Note that the apartment is on the top floor (hence the great view of Notre Dame) and therefore be ok walking up and down w/multiple flights of stairs. I would definitely stay here again on my next trip to Paris. 03 December 2011 - 22:50:15

This is an enchanting apartment, in a great location. It is just as described, perfectly appointed and incredibly clean. It is tiny but has exceptional space economies and works really well for a couple, and well for three. The kitchen has everything that you'd want, and it is all new and beautiful. We would retire from the busy streets to the apartment and enjoy its tranquility. And we really didn't mind the walk-up, that exercise and the red wines helped us to justify the cheese course each evening. Deirdre is wonderful and her staff is responsive and generous. We can't wait to go back. Don't miss the Kaiser Bakery, the Jardin des Plantes for a run, the rue Mouffetard market, and Moroccan Tea at the Mosque of Paris. 01 April 2012 - 16:26:26

You should still brave the stairs of this fourth floor walk up. If only for the archictecural viewing pleasure from the living room and the bedroom of the spires of St. Severin, Notre Dame, St. Sulpice, and the view of Sacre Couer. At night Notre Dame and Sacre Couer are lighted up. Quiet courtyard means you can leave your windows open at night without hearing street noise. And what a delight to have a big window that opens in the compact, extremely well appointed kitchen (large refrigerator with freezer to make ice). Comfy beds and bed linens. Lots of hangers and closet space so you can actually unpack. Every inch well utilized in this compact space, while at the same time plenty of room for two to move around. Separate bedroom with a door is a big plus. Separate washer and separate dryer are top of the line, quick, quiet, and efficient. Excellent water pressure. And forget bottled water; even though the building is of a historical age, the water is tasty and will not upset your system, no matter how delicate. All rooms are larger than they appear on line. Location, location, location. One half block from a full service Carrefours grocery store, a health food store, a bakery, a brasserie with reasonably priced daily specials and lots of expats, a good cheese shop, a pharmacy, and a shop we visited daily for their pates. Plus a newly opened wine/coffee bar (called WHY) where the manager, Yves, will be delighted to help you with all things French, calling museums to check hours, to providing city bus passes, to aiding you with your French enunciation, and of course delighted to discuss politics. This apartment is only two blocks from bus stop for city bus 63 which will take you along the museum route and past many landmarks. This is a charming apartment in a cost effective arrondisement, away from much of the touristy hustle bustle and prices, but with easy access to points of interest by bus, or on foot. Don't bother to bring maps or walking tour or guide books with you; the apartment is bursting at the seams with all things Paris. Marie Noel was extremely helpful and prompt in researching bus information, museum and holiday information, and in securing a reliable cab for our early morning departure to CDG airport. Treat yourself to this particular magical Paris apartment experience....at least once. 16 May 2012 - 16:52:31

This apartment is so beautiful and comfortable. I went on this vacation with my 70 year old Mom and 8 year old daughter. We could not have been more pleased. From the minute we were greeted at the door until the day we left we felt at home. We took the train from CDG airport and the directors that Deirdre gave us could not have been any easier. Everything is so close and there is a metro a few feet from the door as well as many bus lines which is what we used most of the time. I loved going to Carrefour's (grocery store) or Rue Mouffard for our groceries. Both are so close. Being able to have dinner in the apartment was great. There are several great bakeries within feet as well. The apartment is just so charming and comfortable! My daughter especially liked getting into the deep bath tub. The bed was very comfortable and Deirdre has a great selection of CD's. I liked having internet too : ) I hope to be back again next fall. I had been to Paris once before and stayed at a Hotel and that had nothing on staying at this apartment. The owner is so sweet and I'm thankful that she is sharing this gem with others. 02 January 2013 - 15:14:54

After viewing the pictures of this apartment I could not wait to rent it. I was traveling with a girlfriend and my 17 year old daughter and only had 4 days/5 nights in Paris. The apartment was exactly as pictured. It was warm, inviting, tidy and efficient, perfect for 3 people. The beautiful windows and charming architectural elements made us feel like we were in an enviable location (which we were!). My daughter especially loved the bookcases filled with beautiful old novels and travel books. I loved that the place was small yet not at all claustrophobic. It was nicely decorated and had a place for everything including a laptop computer and cd player. The view out the large windows was spectacular and the heavy shutters kept the warmth in at night. The weather was cold when we were there, but the apartment was plenty warm and never ran out of hot water. We really loved the insulated teapot which kept our nightly tea piping hot for several cups. The bathroom had plenty of room for our toiletries (a nice plus) and a heated towel rack (another fabulous plus). We had ample room to unpack our belongings and the table was large enough for the three of us to eat at for breakfast and light dinner. There was also a dishwasher, washing machine and separate clothes dryer. We did not use them since our stay was short but amazing to have. We were very comfortable and I for one look forward to renting here again (when the weather is warmer!). The 4 flight walk-up winded us on the first day but the apartment is so worth the climb that it was cake after that. Deirdre was wonderful to deal with. She is as charming as her apartment and was responsive to all of our questions. Plus we were able to pay in U.S. dollars which was extremely convenient. Her manager, Marie-Noel was also fantastic. She met us at the apartment and went over all the details and also arranged for a cab to the airport on Sunday morning for our return home. There was a nice book of restaurants and tips in the apartment and we got to know the routes around the neighborhood easily. We also felt very safe despite being 3 women (who speak very little french). The apartment is very secure and in a nice area. Merci beaucoup to Deirdre for sharing her lovely home. 12 March 2013 - 22:04:06

My husband and I recently had the honor of staying in Deirdre's lovely abode for a week prior to Easter in this 4 flight walk-up in the Latin Quarter. It is conveniently located between 2 Metro lines and several bus stops, all of which we took advantage of, as well as one of the best boulangeries in Paris, Kayser, as well as open markets, fromageries, a supermarket, wine shops, etc. The cafe on the corner, Le Petit Cardinal is warm and accommodating, serves excellent petit dejeuner, as well as late night drinks. The 4 flights of stairs may be burdensome for some but promise excellent views and lots of sun and sky. It overlooks a mostly quiet courtyard, where you will hear birds and church bells, but beware of the adjacent schoolyard where the children play several times a day if you wish to sleep late or need a nap. The apartment was kept comfortably warm (it was quite cold in Paris when we were there!) with enough down comforters, pillows, and a lovely heated towel rack to keep us toasty. Deirdre has made her home quite homey, with a wonderful CD collection, laptop, Paris guide books, novels and magazines and a variety of wine glasses. It is very clean and fresh. We made use of the washer and dryer and it was easy and great having our own coffee and fresh pain de chocolate every morning! Not only is Deirdre very helpful, kind, and responsive, but Marie-Noel, her Paris manager, is as well, with restaurant recommendations, transportation help, and anything else you might need. I would recommend this property for anyone looking for a very convenient location to many well-known Paris spots while embracing the lifestyle of Parisians in a safe, warm environment. If you require absolute quiet ALL day or stairs are a hindrance, this might not be the place for you. 06 April 2013 - 13:26:29

My husband and I absolutely loved this apartment in Paris. It could not have been better. The location was excellent, walking distance from lots of attractions and with a Metro stop at either end of the street. We didn't have any trouble with the stairs. It helped to work off all of the bread and pastries from the many bakeries we sampled. Eric Kayser, down Rue Monge, was fantastic, and I even made the trek to try the famous Poilane bread. But the boulanger at the end of the street opposite the Cardinal Lemoine station was great too! Don't miss Ste. Chapelle, Notre Dame, Montmartre, walking around the Seine and Ile St. Louis and Ile de la Cite at night (so many street performers, and beautiful lights), Jardin du Luxembourg and the Jardin des Plantes (lovely), the Musee D'Orsay, the Eiffel Tower, and just sitting at a cafe watching the city go by. We had the time of our lives! If we go back we would definitely stay in this beautiful apartment again. Do try to speak some French, even a little, and say bonjour when you walk into a store, etc. If you just make a little effort, the French are so nice and helpful! We did not have one negative experience. Loved it!!!!! 23 July 2013 - 13:53:28

It is a beautiful, cozy apartment with everything one needs to be comfortable. Very helpful local woman met us on our arrival . I would rate it excellent except for the four flights of stairs. We did it and am sure not an issue with younger people. Very convenient location and 2 metro stops just down the street. Loved our stay in Paris! 03 November 2013 - 20:42:41

Just returned from a 1 week stay at this nice apartment in the Latin Quarter. The apartment is well located and free of street noise as it sits on an inner courtyard. The bedroom is separate from the living/dining room. There is a small but very functional kitchen and the bathroom has a tub! The entire apartment is very clean. This is well worth anyone's stay. 24 April 2014 - 02:42:13

We decided at the last minute to book a flat versus a hotel for the convenience of having a kitchen and more. This flat was ideal. Safe the 4 floor walk up and intermittent wifi , it was a wonderful location for exploring the Latin quarter and nearby areas. The bus and lector lines were just out the front door! The manager of the flat was as helpful and sweet as could be. 11 June 2014 - 08:39:46
  14. While it has been almost a year since we were in Paris my wife and I reflect almost monthly on our stay here. The photos on the webpage don't really do justice to the apartment. While they accurately capture what the rooms look like, they cannot capture the feel. This is an apartment you step in to and immediately feel at home. From the soaps in the bathroom, to the sharp knives in the kitchen, to the full sized refrigerator, to the clothes washer and drier (Yes drier! Virtually unheard of in Paris apartments according to our friend who has lived there for decades), to the reliable free wi-fi and laptop at your disposal. You will want for nothing, except more time to spend there. The apartment is located in a wonderful, quiet neighborhood, and is very close to 2 Metro stops. It is within walking distance of a great farmers market, a supermarket, and many specialty shops. And in the evenings, after youve walked all day, it is a tranquil oasis with a beautiful view of the top of Notre Dame. Even the sunsets were spectacular from here! Mt wife and I have traveled quite extensively since retiring almost a decade ago, and have rented houses and stayed in some beautiful places. This apartment is in the top 5% of any we have rented in that time. Stay here. You will not be disappointed. 21 September 2014 - 21:22:26

we just spent 9 wonderful days in paris and what made the stay perfect was this wonderful little apartment. There is nothing like coming "home" after a long day of sightseeing to a kitchen we stocked with wine, cheese, bread and fruit. To sit on the couch open the windows letting the breeze blow in and put our feet up while munching and sipping wine was glorious. We were very close to the metro/bus which took us all over Paris. We walked to Notre Dame, Ile St. Louis and Rue Mouffetard many times since they were very close. We had been to Paris once before for 5 days an stayed in a hotel, there is no comparison. 24 September 2014 - 19:05:03

My husband and I honeymooned for 9 days in Paris and decided to rent an apartment -- we could not have made a better choice. I spent a long time comparing and researching before selecting this simply charming apartment in the Latin Quarter. It is very comfortable, with great amenities, lovely furnishings, and the location is fantastic. The icing on the cake is the owner. She just went above and beyond and was so helpful. She spent 45 minutes on the phone with me the week before we arrived, answering all my questions and surprised us with a bottle of champagne as a honeymoon gift! Coming back to the apartment after a day exploring this beautiful city was like returning to a home away from home. We cannot wait to come back again. 30 September 2014 - 21:25:39

On the verge of booking this wonderful apartment for at least the sixth time, I guess it would be the understatement to say that I love this space. Putting aside the fact that it is equidistant between two metro lines, a stone's throw away from the river, Notre Dame, the Mouffetard Market, the Jardin des Plantes and wonderful markets, the apartment is everything that one might hope for in a rental. It is quiet, immaculate, airy, and oh so comfortable. There are floor to ceiling windows, a small but totally functional full kitchen, a very comfortable bed, and lots of hot water. Although the apartment is very cozy it is not cluttered with stuff that gets in one's way, so one has the advantage of being in a real home with the luxury of plenty of closet space for one's luggage and clothing, clean linens, free international calls, wifi, an apple computer, etc. After long days of touring Paris I look forward to returning "home" as I now refer to Deidre's special apt. I have never met her in person but have corresponded with her on multiple occasions as I again book a stay. She and her assistant Marie Noel are like reliable friends who do what they committed to do with a little added flourish and thoughfulness. If I could live in Paris, this would be where I'd choose to reside. Fresh air, trees to gaze upon, the sound of the bells chiming at Notre Dame, a terrific music selection from which to choose, and a home cooked dinner if you are so inclined. And last, the stairs are an opportunity to burn calories and eat more! Just dont book when I want to go there! Bon voyage. 05 January 2015 - 15:09:40

This charming apartment turned out to be not only beautiful, but a little slice of heaven when my friend and I came down with terrible colds on our recent visit to Paris. The beds were warm and cozy with lovely duvets. We could adjust the heat to our liking and their was loads of bubbling hot water for those long baths one needs when they feel terrible. There was also a great market across the street that had wonderful soup and a pharmacist next door. Although this wasn't what we planned, I know that without the great amenities this wonderful apartment provided, I don't know if we would have survived. Now, I can't wait to go back when I'm well. All I can say is...it's marvelous! 21 January 2015 - 21:14:03

This delightful apartment was a highlight of our Parisian adventure! My teenage daughter and myself revelled in the cosy comfort that awaited us after each day of sightseeing. Being able to cook our own meals, after wandering through the fabulous nearby markets, choosing from the best of fresh produce, was a particular delight. The location was a true bonus, being situated literally a couple of minutes walk between two Metro stations on different lines, which made it so easy to plan our outings. Having laundry facilities was also a real benefit, saving us time at the laundrette, (it's also so much cheaper!). But it was the 'home like' quality that really delighted us - lovely plates and dishes, a wonderful CD selection, books, etc - all made our stay so much more relaxed than a hotel, or a normal rental place. We couldn't recommend this highly enough, and will definitely be back! 29 January 2015 - 10:25:58

I have stayed at this wonderful Latin Quarter apartment 3 times. It just keeps getting better. The fantastic windows that open. On Sundays all the bells chiming. It is the most central location as well and a wonderful neighborhood. I would recommend it to all. Robbin Woodruff 10 July 2016 - 17:39:53
