  1. Atwater market, friendly restautants, lachine canal, a folk festival....what else can one ask for? This area of Montreal is laid back and family oriented. Having stayed at apts in Old Port, Plateau and Little Italy over the past 6 years, we decided to explore .St Henri. Upon arriving I was a bit put off by the graffiti and overall mood of the area but walking a few blocks in any direction yielded pleasant surprises. The apt was clean and servicable. Nicolas is an accomodating host. As other reviewers have remarked the bed is very comfortable. The claw foot tub while charming might be a challenge for some. The kitchen is well equipped and with atwater nearby cooking at home was a delight. Overall a nice stay and I recommend this apt. Thank you, Nicolas. 30 June 2016 - 11:02:00

Loved it - cute patio, adorable claw foot bathtub and only a mile to the shops. Nicolas was very responsive and easy to work with. 27 May 2017 - 21:33:00

My husband and I visited Montreal in celebration of our 20th anniversary. We were so fortunate to find the lovely St. Marguerite apartment. The flat is very clean and cozy, with everything you need for a comfortable and active stay in Montreal. The neighborhood is close to a number of new restaurants, the metro, and a bustling market. We'll be sure to stay there again when we return to Montreal! 30 May 2017 - 12:04:00

Anyone considering renting this property should be aware of the improvement works which are taking place immediately outside it. We were awoken at 7am on more than half of the 14 days of our vacation by VERY NOISY construction work and traffic. We contacted the property owner, Nicolas, who said he could do nothing about this and had little or no knowledge about when the works were taking place. This is not true as there are at least two signs located within 30 feet of the apartment which state that the work will be taking place from 19/6/17 (the date of our arrival) until 11/8/18. I have photographic evidence of this. These appear to be part of major works within St Henri town centre which are scheduled for completion in September 2017. Nicolas must have been aware of the works as he appears to live at least part of the week in the next door property. When we pressed the owner on this point he stated that we were obviously unhappy with the apartment and he offered us a 50% refund for the remainder of our stay. This derisory not to say insulting offer did not deserve a reply. It is clear that the owner has put income/profit before our enjoyment of our holiday. His failure to inform us of the road/construction works completely spoiled our holiday which we had saved for over a couple of years. It is my intention to contact the authorities responsible for the licensing of this property to complain about the actions of this landlord in this instance. I have no doubt that they will be extremely apologetic about the situation. 14 July 2017 - 19:21:00

The neighborhood was quite and very near to the train station. The home is a old home but very well maintained. Sometimes we did get the smoking smell in the living room. The house was good for 4 people. The owner was very nice person and was very patient when I had issues with my payment. I don't think you would find such a nice owner. He did help us with our luggage as well. Very nice person 04 September 2017 - 17:16:00

Close to Atwater Market. 10 minute walk to Metro. Quiet area. Apartment needs good cleaning. Dust on ceiling fans & window panes. Smells of old smoke. 16 July 2017 - 00:53:00

Apartment was exactly as described. The subway was easy to get to, and walking distance from great little shops and restaurants. The back porch was large and a nice addition to a great apartment. When I was there it was chilly and the apartment had its own thermostat, which was very nice. The owners made good suggestions about things to see and places to go. I would visit again and recommend the apartment to a friend. 03 December 2010 - 22:16:35

This is a tidy little apartment with an enormous deck providing a terrific view of Montreal's backyard. The Atwater Market is a hidden gem that made our stay very memorable. It has a fantastic selection of Quebec cheeses and marinated meats and a terrific bakery. Staying in this neighborhood gave us a view of Montreal that we wouldn't have had otherwise. It's an easy ride downtown on the Metro - about 15 minutes to old Montreal. 15 May 2011 - 04:22:36

The owners are super. Great location near the Atwater market which is fantastic. Metro station = 5 minutes walk. The patio is just amazing. I strongly recommend it. 24 May 2011 - 22:21:08

We stayed here for F1 and it was really convenient to the city. A short walk to the Metro or you could ride your bike along the canal into the city. Near Atwater market which is definitely worth a visit. This appears to be an up and coming neighborhood. Nicolas was very flexible and easy to communicate with. We enjoyed staying here and would recommend it. Nice back roof deck and clean apartment 13 June 2011 - 14:26:52

We enjoyed staying 8 nights here. We felt as though we were given temporary credentials as "true citizens of Montreal". This cozy place feels authentic because it is pretty authentic to typical urban life in Montreal going back multiple decades - with modern updates like a microwave, wi-fi and solar water. The rear deck terrace is very nice, a major amenity. The place feels intimate with the neighbors. You feel almost as if you know them, You hear kind voices from the street below in the morning, headed to work. You see the laundry placed on clothes lines. You may get lucky and befriend a cat. Yet it is private. The metro is easy walking. Atwater Market, good restaurants, Lachine Canal, are in the neighborhood, This is the real Montreal. Enjoy! 13 July 2011 - 03:30:24

My husband, two sons (9,12 y.o.) and I stayed at the apartment in early September. The place was easy to find. The location worked out perfect for us. The bike path was just a block from our door and tennis courts around the corner. This is so close to the city by bike, metro or car, very convenient. We drove our van and easily found parking on the street right in front of the apartment. I like to cook all our meals on vacation and the kitchen was great. Every utensil I needed was in the kitchen. My boys were comfortable on the futon and all the bedding you needed was in the closet. Great water pressure in the shower! I always like that. Having a washer and dryer helped so we didn't need to bring as many clothes. Plus the laundry was very new and highly efficient. Nicholas was very helpful and always available for any questions we had regarding the area. The apartment was very clean, comfortable and welcoming. Thanks to Nicholas and VRBO we had a outstanding and affordable stay in Montreal. 19 September 2011 - 00:26:20

This is a delightful rental with a very accomodating host in a wonderful location. We used the deck terrace for evening cocktails and appetizers that we had gotten at the Atwater market and marveled at the delightful neighborhood we were staying in. We were very close to the Lachine canal bike trail and it was a great to ride our bikes on it. While we did have to bring our bikes up a flight of stairs, it worked well with 2 people for each bike. Perhaps most importantly, Nicolas allowed us to check in early when his previous guests left early because of complications from a hurricane hitting their town. This gave us additional time to explore Montreal, by bike, as we wanted to do. He was very helpful with suggestions on places to see and eat. Also helpful was the washer and dryer, along with the laundry soap, so we didn't have to buy any. The place was delightfully appointed with a great TV and WiFi. We were able to bring in a double aero bed for one of us and Nicolas thoughtfully provided the linens. We would definitely stay here again - especially since it gave us what we wanted: a very clean rental, a very helpful host and in the middle of a Montreal neighborhood so we could experience true Montreal city living. 18 September 2011 - 18:28:18

Nicolas was wonderful to work with. Honestly coming from Chicago, the look of the neighborhood made us a little uneasy at first but Nicolas reassured us and he was right. This is a wonderful, vibrant neighborhood. We loved being part of a neighborhood as opposed to staying downtown. We walked/ran/biked on the canal daily and shopped at the Atwater Market. We even rented Bixis and biked downtown. What a great location. The apartment was super clean and very comfy. It had a great layout and all of the comforts of home. I would highly recommend this as your Montreal "home base." 28 July 2012 - 15:50:25
  17. lovely apartment in a key location -- easy to get around and not too gentrified but not too bohemian. The patio and grill and the fresh tomatoes and herbs made a night at home perfect. Would definitely rent again. 25 August 2012 - 14:17:32

This is a basic, clean, comfortable apartment convenient to the metro. We stayed here 4 nights and cooked in the well-equipped kitchen two nights. We were a little wary of the neighborhood at first but actually found it to be quite safe to the point that one of our party (a woman) felt comfortable walking home from the metro at night alone! Yes, you do see women walking around at night alone in this neighborhood quite a lot! Owner is very nice, lives nearby and was very responsive to all our needs. Loved the nice deck out back. Negatives: Sofa in living room was not terribly comfortable. Also smoke alarm in kitchen will go off if you have any little bit of kitchen cooking smoke at all. Use kitchen exhaust fan at all times! All in all it was a great place to stay and we would definitely stay there again. 22 September 2014 - 03:51:12

Charming upstairs apartment in old blue collar section of town. Quite a mix of housing in the area from renovated row houses to new apartment buildings to run down properties. One block to the canal (walking and bikes paths, boat rentals), 3 blocks to Rue Notre Dame with great eateries, 3 blocks to Aubut (discount supermarket), 5 blocks to metro, 8 blocks to Atwater Market (upscale farmers market, butchers, bakers cheese shops...); lots to do. The apartment has a wonderful deck off the kitchen and a balcony off the living room. All was well maintained and clean. I would return without hesitation! 26 June 2015 - 15:07:56

Our family had a wonderful experience at this rental! The pictures did a terrific job of capturing the apartment and it was exactly as described. The owner, Nicolas, was extraordinarily kind and thoughtful even going so far as to help my husband carry in luggage. The place was spotless. The bed was a little short (we are both 6'2'') but comfortable enough. My 6'2'' daughter did just fine on the futon. The futon/living room had a curtain that could be shut so she had some privacy, and she really appreciated that. We could still use the kitchen, the terrace, or leave without disturbing the sleepy teenager who would rather stab herself than get up before 11 a.m. Be sure to go to Atwater market- it was positively wonderful for buying baked goods, vegetables, fruits, and meats and a short walk from the unit. The bread store opens extremely early and you can have a lovely breakfast there of coffee and baked goods. The Metro was awesome- we parked the car for the whole duration and purchased the 3 day unlimited pass for $18 each, and went everywhere. Parking in front of the unit was not a problem so long as you are good at parallel parking. Restaurant prices overall are very reasonable. Try Robin Du Bois, a charity based restaurant that is very reasonably priced and proceeds going toward helping the homeless. Had a great meal there and it was a family favorite. Neighborhood was extremely safe, although there is graffiti every where. No worries though, as single females walked around constantly without issue. French is the language you will hear everywhere, but everyone also speaks English. The people of Montreal were extremely kind and helpful particularly since we speak no French. People would stop to offer help when it was obvious we were trying to locate something, and even walked us through the underground area a half mile or so to ensure we made it to Eton Square. Incredibly kind souls indeed. It was very hot- 90F or 32C and very humid, and far warmer than the average 75F typical of August. The apartment did have a portable A/C, but it was still very warm... tolerable overall though. We will absolutely be returning and my daughter is already begging me to book the place again since there was so much we didn't have time to see. If this is your first VRBO experience, try this owner- he will be amazing for you! We arrived early and he let us in and stored our luggage so we could start our day while he finished up. Thank you for such a fantastic experience!! 19 August 2015 - 13:58:43
