About listing

Le Marais, 3rd arrondissement, Paris, France. On Rue Charlot. Ground floor on garden courtyard. Sleeps two to four. MINIMUM STAY: Generally 5 nights for advanced reservations for high season, and 3 nights for low season. However, we are open to any stay that fits well with the existing calendar. Just ask by SENDING EMAIL -- NOT by requesting to book!! THE BEST ROMANTIC HIDEAWAY IN THE MARAIS. That's our goal, and judging by over 150 FIVE STAR REVIEWS, we hope we have succeeded. What is more, from detailed instructions for arrival to reserving restaurants or taxis for you, we go out of our way to make your stay easy and trouble-free. FORMERLY A 17TH c. ARTISAN'S WORKSHOP! This beautiful completely renovated garden apartment is located in what was once an artisan's workshop in the days of Marie Antoinette. Located on the historic courtyard of a classic Parisian building in the Marais, it is among the oldest in Paris. The age of the building will be obvious when you first see the exposed posts and beams -- called 'colombage' -- in the courtyard itself, recalling the way all of Paris looked in the 17th century. LIKE A COUNTRY COTTAGE IN THE HEART OF PARIS. With its short pitch of tiled roof and its double French doors and French windows opening onto the garden, it's a one-of-a-kind, romantic oasis of calm in the Marais. The old world charm combines with modern amenities, a high quality bed, a luxurious bath, and a well-equipped kitchen to make an ideal Parisian retreat. AN EXCEPTIONALLY QUIET GARDEN APARTMENT, you will forget that the center of Paris is just outside, and feel as if you are in the countryside watching the birds out in the garden. The exceptional quiet means GOOD SLEEPING on the high quality bed that's been fit into a French antique, hand-crafted frame. Please read our visitors' comments -- many mention how quiet it is. RENOVATED BY A DESIGNER with international travelers in mind, the result is a successful amalgam of old world noble materials and modern style. The apartment consists of one big room that serves as bedroom and living area, a separate and fully equipped kitchen, and a full deluxe bath. In the main room and bath are beautiful exposed stone walls, and the original thick oak beams are exposed on the ceiling as well. In fact, the beams are older than the building -- there are signs that they were recycled when the building was built. DETAILS THAT MAKE THE DIFFERENCE. The floor has wide oak boards in the main room, with a welcoming antique killim rug, and antique stone tile in the kitchen and bath. Throughout there are clean lines and harmonious touches of color, giving a very aesthetically pleasing, peaceful ambience. QUALITY BEDDING. Hand carving graces the antique bed frame, while the bed itself is high quality. For bedding, there are down and synthetic comforters (your choice), 100% cotton blankets, 100% cotton sheets, and six French pillows. The exceptional quiet of this apartment will further enhance sleep. The sofa is large and comfortable, and hides a comfortable full-sized bed should it be needed. An antique Paris bistro style table sits by the window for meals (expanding to seat four) and a wooden table serves as a small desk. (There are extra folding chairs available.) WIFI -- AND LOW TECH, TOO. The high speed WiFi works flawlessly. Hidden away is a flat screen TV with more than 40 digital channels including CNN and BBC, and a DVD/CD/MP3 player with radio. There is an iPhone compatible alarm clock, a phone, and an answering machine. There is a whole library of Paris guidebooks. You will also find classical, jazz, and other CD's, many DVDs (including classic Paris movies), shelves full of interesting books, and reading lamps. A VERY WELL-EQUIPPED KITCHEN, AND MORE. The kitchen has lots of charm and modern appliances: a full-size oven, four burner stovetop, built-in refrigerator with freezer, microwave, toaster, hand mixer, and coffee maker. It is also well-equipped with all utensils for cooking and eating -- more than you will find in most rentals. The bath is beautifully done with deluxe modern fixtures, a large bathtub, a deluxe shower (it's superb!), and both a washing machine and dryer tucked away in a closet. A hidden extra is a double-size hot water heater, so you should not run out. There is also a hair dryer, iron and ironing board, and vacuum cleaner. All linens, towels, and soap are supplied. AN EXCEPTIONAL NEIGHBORHOOD. Steps away on the corner, you will find the wonderful open air Marche des Enfants Rouge, the oldest market in Paris. Rue Bretagne has its own offering of excellent shops including butchers, bakers, traiteurs, wine, fruits and vegetables, and right on the corner one of the best fromagers (cheese shops) in the city. There are also two supermarkets conveniently nearby. The neighborhood is chock-full of antique shops, funky designers, and art galleries on the narrow streets. There are many great little restaurants and cafes with terraces, as well as charming Parisian parks. IN THE CENTER OF PARIS. The Picasso Museum is literally just around the corner, as is all the rest that the Marais has to offer, from the magnificent Hotels Particuliers (17th century city mansions), many housing museums, to the famous Place des Vosges. You can easily walk to Hotel de Ville in about 15 minutes, and then Notre Dame and the other major sites along the Seine. The Pompidou Center is also right close by. There are several Metro stations nearby, and bus lines that run through the Marais. SAFE AND SECURE. The apartment is very secure: To get in the building requires both a code to get in the main door and then a key to get through an iron security gate. The door of the apartment itself has a high security lock. The windows have security blinds that close tightly over them if you want to leave for any length of time, and the windows themselves also have locks. In short, there are more security features than you need! Especially for this lovely, safe and quiet upscale neighborhood. WE DO EVERYTHING WE CAN TO MAKE YOUR VISIT A PLEASURE! We will answer whatever questions you have before you arrive, and provide detailed instructions for getting to the apartment. The day you arrive, someone will meet you, help with your luggage, and show you into the apartment. We accommodate early arrivals and late departures. We also routinely organize taxis for the day of departure -- they come right to the door to pick you up. In the apartment, you will find loads of guidebooks, other information on Paris, and a binder full of detailed information on the apartment, the neighborhood, and more -- where the best bakery is, nearby restaurants we recommend, how to get a taxi, where to park, and so on. We are happy to help make reservations for you. If you have any problems in Paris, we'll try to help. Our goal is to help you live in the neighborhood like a local French person -- an experience you would never have in a hotel -- while minimizing hassles and maximizing your enjoyment. IMPORTANT CONTACT INFORMATION: The best way to contact us initially is by email. We will respond as quickly as possible, usually within 24 hours. If you do not receive a reply, please call us as there may have been a problem with the reception of the email. -------------------------------- IMPORTANT NOTE: We have OVER 150 REVIEWS, all positive! After the HomeAway takeover, VRBO erased a large number of our reviews and they refuse to put any back that are more than one year old. We've been renting our apartment for longer than most others in Paris and feel their policy is misleading and unfair. If you'd like to see the other reviews, just let us know. -------------------------------- Keywords: Paris Marais, Vacation Apartment, Garden Apartment, Holiday Flat, Large Studio

We had a month overseas which is quite common coming from Australia. We Ozzies seem to eak out as much time as we can coming from so far away. I have already posted a review about the apartment on vrbo. It was all as appeared in the photos and more. We were surrounded by the Marais with all it's quirky little shops. I found a great coat in one of them and some fabulous scarves. I can't wait for the winter. We made use of the Metro every day and we walked for miles, my husband a half a mile in front and me bringing up the rear. This was not our first trip to Paris. We have had several quick trips there and this time we decided to make the most of our fortnight and see as much as we could. So we saw everything, all the big sites. One church we had'nt seen was St Chapelle.I'm so happy we saw it, though we left it too late to have an opportunity to attend a recital.(maybe next time) So now I can safely say we have seen them all. The opera house was one we missed previously and we spent a whole afternoon wandering around its gigantic interior, absolutely beautiful. What did we do with the previous fortnight? We did an organised tour around Croatia with Insite tours. We were blown away by everything there particularly Dubrovnik with its ancient walls. So back to Paris. I would like to thank Chris for all the help he gave us prior to our trip and after. I miss our little home away from home and if we go to Paris again we will definitely book the Marais apartment. 04 November 2015 - 02:48:01

What a wonderful place to stay. You could not ask for a better location since you are surrounded by fabulous boutiques and restaurants. The neighborhood has a charming ambiance and is only a short walk to the metro. We would stay here again in a heart beat. The owner was very accommodating and extremely professional. The booking process was very smooth and efficient and he provided us with all the necessary details to make our stay enjoyable. 22 November 2015 - 13:14:17

Do you know a place that is so wonderful that you think of it on the plane ride home, and begin to plot your return? This is that place. We loved everything about our stay on Rue Charlot. The proximity to everything, the corner cafes, the market, the darling apartment, adds up to the perfect vacation. We had everything we needed . Kitchen..perfect, bathroom...perfect. The whole rental experience was perfect. Christopher was very thorough with all directives, could not have been easier. Day 2, we took a Paris by Mouth tour of the Marais, it was so helpful! We learned our neighborhood, which we hardly ever left. We explored everything around us and loved it all! This is a wonderful studio, very spacious. Absolutely love the touch of the flower bouquet! Thanks Chris! 28 November 2015 - 21:55:57

The location is perfect and the apartment is a Parisian charmer; from the exposed stone walls to the old world beamed ceiling, outfitted with all of the most modern conveniences (including great wi-fi). It's more like borrowing a friends apartment for the week, that you want to treat with the utmost respect. Chris is extremely profession in dealing with the rental and is very clear on his expectation on how you will treat his gem. This is definitely not a party house. However, It's a perfect place for 1, 2 or perhaps even 3 people who want a quiet refuge in the midst of the Maris. A wonderful place to cook a meal, sleep or share a glass of wine or two. I will definitely return. 01 December 2015 - 11:31:33
  5. While I am reluctant to provide effusive praise as this will contribute to even longer book in advance times :) I would highly recommend this apartment. My only regrets are that we we only there for a 3 day stay and I ended up having to leave a Belgian beer for the next occupants :). Chris was very professional and thorough in our dealings and was able to arrange an early bag dropoff for us as well as make taxi arrangements to the airport for our departure. This was our third trip to Paris and the first to use an apartment. The apartment was well laid out with attractive lighting and very homelike. It made me feel like a Parisian to walk to the bakery in the morning for the traditional baguette, visit the local grocery stores for supplies and visit the Caractre du Cochon for a traditional jambon-beurre at a very reasonable price returning to the apartment to listen to some classic jazz. Art lovers will appreciate the proximity of the Picasso museum, the Musee Carnavalet and the Muse Cognacq-Jay with the latter two having free admission. If your stay includes a Sunday it certainly is worthwhile to walk over to the huge Bastille market. We certainly hope to be able stay at the apartment again on our next visit and explore the charming neighborhood more thoroughly. 15 December 2015 - 17:40:05

This little gem of an apartment is perfectly located for all Parisian excursions local or otherwise. It is only blocks from great museums, restaurants and cafes. The apartment is outfitted with everything you'd need for a comfortable stay while vacationing in Paris, especially the great bed, kitchen and well stocked travel library. It has so much unique character and It offers privacy and quiet, comfort and security which is welcome after a full day of city life. Chris cares that his guests are happy and comfortable and he is genuine in wanting to make your stay the best. I consider ourselves lucky to have found this apartment and look forward to a return visit. 15 June 2016 - 22:29:02

The apartment was just as described and pictured. We were met at a nearby cafe and taken to the apartment. It was clean, well-stocked with linens, kitchen items, and bath things. The bed was very comfortable and the sofa bed was very easy to use. Neighborhood is charming and we hit several of the cafes for dinner and drinks. Very nice! 12 July 2016 - 23:47:37
  8. Our stay at the Marais: Cottage in Paris in July 2016 was really lovely. The cottage met our needs very well and while we did not do any cooking everything was there if you want to self cater. I was with my sister and we used the sofa bed for our 6 night stay and I found it very comfortable. While I think it would be a little cramped for 4 adults it is perfect for a couple. Returning to the Cottage each evening gave us a much needed escape from the busy streets and the heat of a Paris summer. Tucked away as it is, the apartment is peaceful and with the beautiful outlook onto the courtyard the sense of a tranquil retreat is lovely. 05 August 2016 - 04:09:10

This apartment is exquisitely designed and appointed with exceptional attention to detail and maintenance.. Ideal for couples - secure, ground floor location. Moreover, the hospitality and service of Chris (owner) is five star. We unreservedly recommend it to all who seek the best self contained accommodation in Paris. This was our first time to Paris and the apartment was perfect for our three night stay. Our children are only aged 10 and 8 so we all fitted into the one room OK and the beds were really comfortable. Because the apartment is set back from the street and on the ground floor opening onto a small courtyard it was fairly dark and really quiet - in fact we all slept well into the morning - the best night's sleep we'd had in years! The spec of the apartment was really high; beautiful bathroom and nice furnishings. Only a short walk to a couple of metro stations, a supermarket and two bakeries. Sadly, we hadn't appreciated until our last day just how close the apartment was to the river and Notre Dame and could have walked a lot more! If we were coming back to Paris as a family or couple we'd definitely hope to stay in this apartment again. Our host Chris sent lots of detail and instructions so we knew to what expect on arrival, and you appreciate his pleas to live quietly once you get there and realise you are living more as a Parisian than a tourist; and this brings many more benefits to a visit to this vast and wonderful city. Would recommend the tourist night bus around Paris too! 12 October 2017 - 08:16:00

My stay could not have been better. The owner was very thorough with his arrival/departure instructions. The apartment was just as pictured. Overall, I had a wonderful experience. 16 October 2017 - 12:58:00

This is a beautiful, well appointed apartment in a fabulous location. Chris has thought of EVERYTHING for the visitor's comfort and convenience. Since it is on an charming internal courtyard, it's relatively dark and quiet, which is great for sleeping. (Since the apartment is close enough in to the city for great sites, we thoroughly enjoyed naps almost every day we were there.) Chris sent great information ahead of our arrival, which set up clear expectations and really helped us acclimate to the area. We're already talking about spending a month in Paris someday...but we certainly expect to return to 25 Rue Charlot well before that is a reality for us. 23 October 2017 - 00:05:00

My wife and I stayed in Chriss lovely apartment for seven nights from August 31 thru September 7, 2017. The apartment itself was very nice with a really comfortable bed, a beautiful bathroom, well-appointed kitchen and overall just exactly what we were looking for. Chris thought of everything a traveler might need and provided this for our use. The apartment location was perfect. It is in a safe neighborhood, convenient to great shopping, many restaurants / cafes, close to a metro stop, bus stop and easy to get a cab as well. It was quiet at night and we felt very safe (gated entry). Chris was wonderful to work with. He was extremely communicative leading up to our stay and made it very easy for us to quickly acquaint ourselves to the neighborhood upon arrival. He also made recommendations for places to visit in the neighborhood, which was awesome. The flowers waiting for us at the market down the street was a lovely welcoming gesture. Overall we would highly recommend this rental to anyone visiting Paris and we will likely try to stay there again on our next trip to Paris. 01 November 2017 - 01:46:00

We loved our stay in the apartment in the Marais. Apartment was clean, comfortable and well equipped. Lots of Parisianne character. We appreciated that is was on the ground floor and very quiet. Chris was very helpful and attentive - answered any questions promptly both before arrival and during our stay. The Marais area is filled with great restaurants, shops and lovely parks. We would highly recommend the apartment to all our friends and family and would definitely book again when we return to Paris. Thanks, Chris, for a memorable trip! 06 November 2017 - 15:23:00

Great pied a terre, wonderfully designed. Fabulous location - collect foodstuffs at Marche Bastille and Marche Infant Rouges in the morning, cook up a work of art in the evening. If you dont feel like cooking hit the bistros. There are at least a half dozen within walking distance deserving of one star. The Book tells you everything you need to know. Had some noise issues and some dryer problems but theres a laundry across the street. Met me some pretty local Parisians drying their delicate underthings. If I was single and 20 years younger. Sigh ... 07 December 2017 - 05:45:00

So much fun in a really beautiful setting. We will definitely be back! The owner thought of everything we might need plus a few extra thoughtful things. Loved the flowers, a very nice touch! 14 December 2017 - 19:09:00

Charming, clean, well-situated with great info provided about the area. Chris was available if I ever needed him, which I didn't because he left instructions about everything. What I really loved, among the many things I loved, was the attention to detail. Lovely linens, fine soaps, dishes, etc, that matched instead of just whatever happened to be left over slopped together. It was clear that they want their guests to feel special and welcome. This was my second trip to Paris so I had crossed off my list several of the 'BIG' have-to-see places but I still spent a great deal of time out of the Marais. Don't skip over this area. It is like a haven to come home to after spending time in the other arrondisements. I loved watching families interacting with one another, especially the closeness I witnessed between parents and their young children. I saw many dads alone with their little ones. It touched me so much because I was seeing real Parisians living their real lives, not just Parisians engaged in the tourist industry. I didn't see parents dragging their kids along, talking on their phones, driving (who drives?) through a fast food window and plopping down in front of a screen of some sort. The little ones talked and talked and the parents engaged in return. Sundays are very busy days in the Marais. It was a great day to wander around the Rue de Rossier (sp) if you want to see diversity at it's best. For one of my FB postings, I sat in a cafe and just took picture after picture of people passing by the door just to show the diversity. I wish I could have just wandered more but I was traveling alone (BTW, the apartment feels very safe even coming home after dark) and get turned around in a heartbeat. People say that somewhat as a cliche but I can use the same Metro day after day and still get turned around when I come up the stairs. Wander if you are able. The Marais is a great place to wander and, like I said, to live among Parisians going about their daily lives. I don't know about you but when I plan a trip, I do a lot of investigating. When I head out I have my 'picture' together of what my trip is going to look like. When I stepped into the cottage, I felt like I had stepped exactly into that picture. OK, I'm gushing now, but it's all for real! Thanks for this wonderful experience. 24 May 2017 - 14:21:00

This beautiful cottage was a highlight to the end of a mother/daughter trip to France. The cottage is beautifully decorated and perfectly located in the heart of a fun area of Paris. Chris thought of everything when planning, organizing, and setting up his property for travelers looking for a unique and comfortable experience. There are many books allowing for one to research daily activities, nice cookware which allows one to enjoy the goods bought at the market, and comfortable beds and furniture to provide a nice retreat from the bustling city. We were very grateful to our host for how extremely accommodating and willing to help he was with any of our questions, including recommending restaurants and setting up our taxi to the airport. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would highly recommend it! We look forward to returning here on a future visit! 03 January 2018 - 01:08:00
