About listing

TRULY UNIQUE LOCATION! one of the very few historic properties left in that magical area, this large one bedroom has 7 huge ceiling to floor antique windows, is fully sunbathed all year round, and overlooking the super vivid and famous jacque cartier plaza and the exquisite st paul street and the waterfront! Simple and beautiful:) THE SPACE: this loft is located in a historic building on the third floor with NO elevator, accessible by wide and comfortable stairs. the loft has a large independent bedroom, and it has two independent air conditioning with remote control, a true exclusive touch for and old montreal building! the bedroom is equipped with a king bed, and a large closet, and wrapped with a set of 4 large windows, giving it that magical feel of floating on sunlight! adjacent to the bedroom, spreads a large open space consisting of a living space with a sofa bed, an electric fireplace, a dining/bar space and the kitchen area. the kitchen is fully equipped, you even have a dishwasher! right off the kitchen area there's a washer/dryer room, with enough space to store and hang laundry, a truly touch of comfort! the bathroom is really cool and it's a decent size one, decorated by pebbles, and has a bathtub with a shower handle. the place is charming and ideal for a couple, or a maximum of three people, a small family or a calm and responsible group of friends. the furniture is handpicked and we expect you to be very careful with them:) so if you are looking to be in the middle of it all, while bathing in sunlight, being comfortable and enjoying an old brick gem, you found the place:) PARKING: we can rent you our private parking spot for 30$ per day with in and out privileges, about a minute walk from the apart, but please request it when you book or we can't guarantee availability. Or you can choose from the numerous overnight parking facilities nearby, about 20$ per day with no in and out privileges. THE NEIGHBOURHOOD: Can't beat the location!!! Your loft is RIGHT ON the busiest plaza in Montreal!! Steps from all the main restaurants of the old town, pubs, clubs, theatres, Cirque Du Soleil, water front, St-Paul Ave, the Notre-Dame Basilica, China Town, Palais des Congres (convention centre), Bixi Bike Station in summer, skating ring in winter and so many other things in the Old Port, you can basically walk to your restaurant or your favourite bar, or maybe just sit by the window while you sip on your wine watching the plaza boiling with life! Often called "the open air museum" of North America, the neighbourhood is all you're looking for when you come to town. Old Montreal is where it all started back in the 1600s, and it's all kept amazingly intact, with abundance of character, charm, conviviality, shopping and entertainment. just open your building door and you're in it! GETTING AROUND: We recommend you to walk to get the best out of the old cobblestone streets and heritage buildings, but the nearest metro stop is only 5 min walk for Champ De Mars station & 8 min for Place D'Armes station. Uber is also available in our city and Taxis are down the street from your loft. Spent three fulfilled nights in this big city retreat. The location is perfect for shopping, shows, restaurants and other charms that old Montreal has to offer. The apartment is clean, quiet and comfortable. Perfect for relaxing after a day in the city or entertaining with friends. Michel and Cynthia are extremely warm, accommodating, and helpful. They were very eager to enhance our experience in Montreal by suggesting great cafes and clubs to visit as well as activities they thought we might enjoy. We would recommend this retreat to anyone looking for the old-world experience Montreal has to offer. 21 May 2016 - 23:07:00

Michel and Cynthia are wonderful hosts. Incredibly helpful from the time you arrive until the time you leave, they gave us a lot of good recommendations about places to go and see, and made it feel like they were around if needed. The flat is great. Very clean, comfortable, and warm. The view is the best part, the many windows in front room and bedroom look out onto the Cartier Square, which makes it feel like you're in the middle of it all, but above it at the same time. Location in Old Montreal was great too. It's in a pretty tourist heavy area but to us this was a plus, lots to do just walking out the door. Close to Metro stop as well. Only small drawback is there is a bit of noise given that you're right on the square and you can hear the music until late night, but it didn't really interfere with sleep so unless you're very particular about quiet it's not a big deal. Overall it was really great. Again, Michel and Cynthia are great hosts. We would stay here again. 11 June 2016 - 13:46:00

My husband and I spent 11 days in the oldest part of Montreal in this very lovely loft apartment in one of the restored buildings near the port area along the Saint Laurence River. For the two of us, we had a perfect place to enjoy our time in the city. The apartment was very bright, with floor to ceiling windows in each room. It was a great place to watch all the activity below us on Place Jacques Cartier, which is a major tourist site. The dcor in the loft was exactly as described in the VRBO listing. There were no surprises. The location of the loft was also near many good restaurants, museums and art galleries. One of the other benefits of staying in this apartment was the fact that the owner rented us a parking spot two short blocks away. Parking is not easy in the area, so we were thrilled to have our own spot during our stay. 02 October 2016 - 21:37:00

Loved the apartment, loved the location & The hosts were extremely helpful and accommodating. We would definitely return ! I believe it advertises as accommodating up to four people. However, we don't think it could accommodate more than three ( The bed in the living room is only suited for one). We would recommend this place to any couple or trio who wants to be in the heart of everything ! 08 August 2016 - 23:14:00

We loved our stay so much that it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip to Montreal. We loved spending time inside the apartment and just taking in the views and vibes of the place. It is impeccably clean, and beautifully designed (rustic). The hosts were very responsive right from before booking the place to the end of our stay. We rented their parking spot (very convenient) since it was just a 3 min walk away. This is especially helpful if you have a big SUV, since a lot of the covered parking garages nearby have height restrictions and don't have in/out privileges. When we went, it was really cold, so it was great to have the in/out privileges and be able to drive to places. 05 January 2017 - 03:54:00

My husband and I spent the week after Christmas in this perfect little place. The location is incredible. It really is in the heart of Old Montreal. The bed is comfortable, the wifi works well, the decor is charming and cozy and there are MANY wonderful restaurants within walking distance. Some of our favorites were Marche de Villettte, Mangiafoco and La Sauvagine. 04 January 2017 - 15:54:00

Cynthia and Michel are warm and responsive hosts who made our stay pleasant from the very start. The loft has been well-described in other reviews, so I won't repeat here, except to say that we also enjoyed opening the living room window and viewing all the activity on Place Jacques-Cartier below. The bedroom is amply sized, and when it's time to retire, the windows are furnished with heavy curtains that transform it into a cozy, reasonably quiet space. We found the bed very comfortable and had no trouble sleeping after our days exploring the city. An earlier review mentioned the need for a fan, which I'll echo here. If it's possible, a ceiling fan in the living room and bedroom would be most welcome. We also missed having a toaster, although we improvised with a skillet. And no TV? A blessing to these bibliophiles who don't always get enough reading in! (The WiFi also helped when we just HAD to have a news fix!) We truly enjoyed our stay in this ideally located apartment! 30 May 2017 - 21:15:00

Perfectly located for an indulgent food escape in Vieux Montreal... Le Club Chasse et Peche and Le Bremner are literally stumbling distance away. Apartment is exactly as has been reviewed to date: quite nice. Only downfall was the water pressure in the shower, which was odd given the pressure in the sink and kitchen. Easily remedied by frequent trips to nearby Bota Bota. Cynthia and Michel are very friendly and accommodating. Access to the personal parking spot is an added bonus, particularly on weekends or during festivals. Great way to experience the Old Port area! 02 June 2017 - 21:55:00

My wife and I stayed in this great apartment the first week in July. Michel was very gracious in accommodating a couple of special requests we had, and was great with communications both before and during our stay. The location is amazing, from this fourth floor corner unit you command a 270 degree view from Place Jacques Cartier to Rue St. Paul to the Vieux Port riverfront. The area below you is ground zero for tourist activity in Montreal and as such is a very busy place, but even on July 1 (Canada Day) when thousands of people were pouring out of the waterfront area and onto Jacques Cartier after the fireworks, once we closed the window the noise was no problem. It was great to watch the people and activities down below from this vantage point, but one does need to be aware that there are 57 stairs from the street level up to your door. The dcor is awesome with the brick walls, wood floors, and floor to ceiling windows, and we put the very well-equipped kitchen to good use a couple of nights with our hauls from the fantastic Jean Talon and Atwater outdoor markets (both within easy Metro access on the orange line). It got warm for a few days and the AC worked great, and in response to some previous posts, there is now a high-end fan in the bedroom. The choice of things to do within very easy walking distance of this great location is almost unlimited Notre Dame (the Aura sound/light show was great), Cirque du Soleil Volta (highly recommended!), countless bars and restaurants, the Vieux Port waterfront, the Marche Bonsecours shopping market next door, and the Jardin Nelson open air jazz venue right across the street -- just to name a few. As noted there is no TV (which was great) and no radio, so if you like music Id recommend bringing a small radio or Bluetooth speaker. Thanks again to Michel and Cynthia for making this wonderful place available! 11 July 2017 - 04:45:00

Gorgeous, immaculate apartment and incredible location. Cynthia and Michael were very helpful with directions, and the apartment contained everything we needed (well...we had to bring our own bubbly...). And the three flights of stairs were no problem for this 78-year-old grandma so please do not be put off by no elevator :-) The location really is incredible - the biggest problem is deciding where to eat. I recommend La Sauvagine (French, the lamb chops - YEA!!!) and Pireas (Greek, grilled octopus to die for - TWICE). Many thanks to C and M for making this apartment available to travelers like us :-) 05 August 2017 - 22:00:00

We were in Montreal for the first time, unbeknownst to us, on her 375th birthday. And our location in this cute apartment could not have been more perfect to enjoy the festivities, including fireworks & massive walking puppets (!!). Living on Place Jacques Cartier is like living on a very busy, energetic town/city square. Very good restaurants and major attractions (Montreal Notre Dame, Cirque de Soleil, river trips, historical houses, great museums) all a short walk away. The apartment was just great in so many ways (beautiful bedroom, views, nice bathroom) , the reason for the 4 star rating basically relates to a couple of issues that could probably be fixed really easily. The house needed a fan or something for the very warm, humid nights coupled with loud crowds of people until really late at night. Granted, we were there at a very unusual time (375 birthday AND Victoria Day) and the crowds were huge when we were there. Also, be aware if you are into toast, there is no toaster. And there is no TV which was absolutely not an issue for us although it is fun to watch shows in a foreign country. Cynthia and Michel were the best hosts, answered questions, etc. so quickly. We highly recommend this great spot as well as the beautiful, interesting city of Montreal. 26 May 2017 - 20:46:00

This was a nice studio size apartment perfect for two people. Best location on Place Jacques Cartier in the middle of all activity. The decor is nicely done, appliances are new and work well. There is lots of windows with great views. AC in both rooms works well but a bit noisy. As others mentioned, there is no TV (I don't care). Wifi is excellent, just bring a little bluetooth speaker. No elevator and it is about 60 steps up so you get a good daily work out. Definitely would recommend. 21 August 2017 - 23:11:00

I don't think you'll find an apartment with a better location. Right in the heart of Rue Saint Paul with restaurants and the old town steps away. The apartment is true to the pictures and very very spacious. All the home comforts you'll need. We enjoyed not having a TV and when we did want to catch the odd tennis match (US Open was playing) we simply watched on an iPad as the wireless was a good speed - after all we didn't go to Montreal to watch the TV. Communication with the owners was swift and friendly and they were always helpful and timely - no worries with renting from these guys. Yes the lack of a lift isn't ideal but going down is easy - you just have to put your head down and keep going when you're going up! It's not a deal breaker for the location and I would definitely stay there again. 09 September 2017 - 22:54:00

Beautiful, bright and clean and in a wonderful location for first timers to Montreal. Perfect location to walk to galleries, restaurants and to see the amazing architecture of old Montreal. Booking process, check in, check out were all very efficient and Cynthia was very quick to respond on all questions. Loved it and hope to come again!! Laura October 2017 19 October 2017 - 20:13:00

The apartment is better than expected. The bed was very comfortable, the shower was great - hot water and really good pressure (not always expected in an old building), the location was perfect - very close to two metro stations, restaurants, bars, sights. This was our first trip to Montreal and it was bitterly cold and snowy - well be back in the summer and will stay again at this wonderful apartment. Cynthia and Michael were very accommodating and unobtrusive. As most have said, the walk up the stairs is not bad - would only be difficult if you have some sort of walking trouble. The views were great - especially with the snow! And the windows letting all of the sunlight in was perfect. We definitely recommend this apartment. 30 December 2017 - 19:45:00

We couldn't have asked for a better location. This beautiful old building was tastefully renovated and decorated. The rooms were large with lots of windows. The kitchen was nicely stocked, but we never ate in as there are endless amazing restaurants within easy walking distance. Although we never met the hosts, they were prompt, courteous, and helpful with anything we needed. The only slight drawback was an uncomfortable sofa and side chair for relaxing. I would definitely stay here again! Montreal is well worth a visit!! 25 September 2017 - 15:42:00
