About listing

This lovely light-filled craftsman bungalow has just been completely renovated and remodeled with brand new kitchen and bathroom. Skylights and french doors have been added throughout to bring in plenty of light. The spacious master bedroom has 3 skylights and french doors that open to the back garden which is filled with fruit trees, shrubs, vegetables and herbs. Tucked into a private corner under a gazebo you will find the luxurious dimension 1 spa with plentiful massage jets. The kitchen has copper countertops and brand new stainless steel appliances, including a 2 drawer dishwasher, a gas convection oven, a microwave that doubles as an electric convection oven, and a 5 burner gas range with powerful burners. Although the house is on the small side, it is well set up with an open floor plan for entertaining - the dining room has a large table with seating for 8, in addition to bar seating at the adjacent peninsula that connects kitchen to dining room. French doors in the dining room open into the side courtyard with delightful "hanging garden". The dining room is connected to the living room by a wide open doorway, which can be curtained off for privacy if you wish to use the living room as an extra bedroom. The living room has a double size futon that can be folded down to accommodate 2 additional guests. The living room opens onto a south facing porch and garden in the front of the house. This house is eclectic, whimsical, full of rich colors, and decorated with arts and crafts from around the world, especially from latin america where i work most of the year. All large and small appliances are new - a central heating system that kicks out plenty of hot air in every room, extra large capacity washer and dryer with steam action, and all the kitchen appliances you will need. There is a programmable safe that is large enough for laptops and valuables. The queen size bed with memory foam mattress is adjustable and has massage function and heated mattress pad. There is an over-the-bed table and monitor available if you like to work in bed (or just play around on the computer). Although the house is a great place to have small groups of friends over, it is not a place for large parties or late night antics. This is a haven for those who appreciate peace and quiet. Despite its proximity to many conveniences, the neighborhood is extremely quiet at night and we like to keep it that way. During the day there are the typical noises of a residential neighborhood and kids playing, but traffic on the street is limited. The house is not suitable for small children. No smoking (of any kind) on the premises. The owner has an office/studio in a separate building in back of the house and uses it when in town. Please inquire about the possibility of renting the office for a small additional fee. It is set up with a large adjustable sit/stand desk, office supplies, printer/copier/scanner, a kitchenette, and a bathroom. Availability will depend on timing, as i prefer to rent it only when i am out of the country for extended periods. Well behaved pets are welcome for a small additional cleaning fee - no barkers or chewers please.

Lisa was a great host, and the property is wonderful...just as expected from the photos. It's a quaint, quiet and lovely neighborhood, only a short walk from BART and tons of shops, restaurants, grocery stores. Perfect for a getaway, the gardens are beautiful and I love how hidden you are. What a nice treat to get home from a long day and jump in the hot tub out back! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone, we had a lovely time. 29 November 2016 - 20:33:00

Lisa was very easy to deal with and very responsive. The house is close to markets (Trader Joes, Whole Foods and Berkeley Bowl), coffee shops and the BART, providing easy access to downtown San Francisco. It has an open layout and is very thoughtfully decorated. The bedroom is very light and has plenty of closet space, with French doors leading to the private, lush backyard garden and hot tub. The front porch has comfortable seating, also surrounded by greenery. The kitchen is well-equipped. House was clean and comfortable and the overall layout was very relaxing. Enthusiastically recommend this well-cared for home! 18 February 2017 - 17:35:00

What a great little find. If you are new to the area and a single female traveler this is a great place. Wonderfully appointed inside and great auto sensor lights exactly where and when you need them. The host is most attentive. The place is kept immaculate. I highly recommend 11 August 2017 - 18:28:00

We stayed in this wonderfully renovated small house for two weeks. The location in the Rockridge area of Oakland is superb. Near Telegraph Avenue, it is a 10-15 minute walk from the shops, restaurants and a new Safeway on College Avenue, as well as the BART station. The house itself is lovely, with bright colors and lots of light from skylights. The light was especially nice to have, not something usually found in the old Craftsmen houses that permeate the area. Parking, either in the small driveway or on the street, was easy. While it might be crowded for a family with kids, it was perfect for the two of us. Finally, the owner, Lisa, responded quickly to the few requests we made (a smaller frying pan, for example). All in all, a very good experience. 25 February 2015 - 16:12:43

This home is on a quiet street in a lovely neighborhood of Rockridge. We were visiting our adult children who live in Oakland, for a long weekend, and we were tired of the less than appealing hotel offerings close by. This sweet Craftsmen bungalow was quite a find. I can't say enough about the accommodations, and we have rented through VRBO in numerous states and countries. Lisa, the owner, is lovely, attentive and responsive and has created a beautiful, lively, light filled home. It is small but a very comfortable size for a couple and one more guest. College Avenue is close by with restaurants, coffee, bookstores, shopping. We hope to be returning in May! 23 March 2015 - 20:49:18

I came from snowy Boston in early March to stay in this sweet cottage for 5 days while attending a family event in San Francisco, and was thrilled with my stay! The photos are a very good representation of the house--cozy, craftily decorated and colorful rooms that open up and simply embrace you in their warmth. The kitchen, with its copper counters (gorgeous!), generous island with seating for three and brightly colored cabinets, had everything I needed to create a wonderful dinner for my family and friends one evening, with 8 people comfortably seated around the rustic wooden table in the adjoining dining room. While the cottage is small--one floor living with one bedroom--its open design makes the most of the space, offers views out onto the lovely garden areas outside, and creates a sense of being in a much larger home. The newly remodeled bathroom was beautiful, with a stunning bathtub surround of color-saturated Mexican tiles. The bedroom, with a queen-sized bed (with optional vibrating-massage capacity!) is light, airy and opens onto a serene garden area, with hot tub, out back. This garden is where I spent time each morning over coffee, just drinking in the sunshine and admiring the diverse and lush plantings around the house and studio. Lisa, the homeowner, has a green thumb and natural touch and the outdoor space feels contemplative and engenders a sense of peacefulness. The home's "Lower Rockridge" neighborhood, which is composed mainly of Arts and Crafts bungalows, is a friendly family area, and has easy street parking. Downtown Berkeley is a short car ride along nearby Telegraph Ave. Walking is fun too, and I especially enjoyed the 10-minute stroll to nearby Rockridge, an artsy neighborhood gathering spot with lively restaurants, cafes and shops and a friendly, welcoming feel. There is also a BART station there, making travel into San Francisco or other spots in Berkeley and Oakland a snap. I recommend this sweet home to anyone who likes to feel truly at home when they are traveling. The space is suitable for a single person, a couple, and with the futon fold-out in the cozy living room, could even accommodate one or two small children or a teenager. Lisa is a helpful, warm and accommodating hostess and her home is a treasure. I would absolutely return to this home away from home in Berkeley anytime I am in the area! 01 April 2015 - 14:06:30

My wife and I and one of our adult daughters stayed here for three nights while we visited two other of our daughters in the Rockridge area. We were completely taken with the way the place was remodeled and decorated. The little patios, front and back, were quiet spaces we enjoyed very much, and the hot tub was a treat after a day on the town. Although the house is small, and a bit quirky in its flow, the remodel was beautifully done. Plants are everywhere outside, providing a feeling of privacy despite the closenss of the adjacent houses. The several skylights open up the space very nicely, the kitchen was large and functional, and the neighborhood pleasant. One bathroom for three required some coordination, but nothing more. It is close to markets, restaurants on College Avenue, and the BART. Lisa, the owner, was pleasant and attentive to our being pleased with the property. We will definately make it our first choice for our frequent trips to the north Oakland area. 01 April 2015 - 16:13:18

my daughter and i very much enjoyed our stay in this picturesque home that Lisa has so graciously opened to visitors. it was so much more than i had imagined - flowering, fragrant flowers everywhere, colorful interior spaces, with a welcoming energy that made us feel at home immediately. it was the perfect spot for my daughter recovering from surgery, to rest and heal and take short walks in the neighborhood. after the first week, my daughter and i walked miles and miles, enjoying the charming neighborhood homes and the local shopping. everything was a short walk away - groceries, morning coffee, meals, even a hardware store! i will definitely return to this lovely getaway in rockridge! 04 June 2015 - 13:51:26

This is a very lovely house with a lot of plants and very nice design. In the morning there is a lot of sun. Neighbourhood is very safe and it is fun and relaxing to take a walk around. Restaurants are all within walking distance. I only stayed for 2 nights but I would definitely stay here again when I return to Berkeley. Owner is very attentive and helpful, making sure that my stay is an enjoyable one. 23 June 2015 - 15:24:45

This little cottage is beautifully decorated and in a convenient location. It has a great kitchen with many food prep items and new stove. There is a family-size dinner table and lots of dishes, pots and pans. Your hostess has thought of everything that you need -- even to the little reading light above the divan. The tiny garden is full of flowering plants, a fig tree, outdoor table and chairs, and hot tub! It's a wonderful getaway and I hope to come back again! 02 July 2015 - 20:28:08

This is a very comfortable and well decorated one bedroom home in a very nice neighborhood south of Berkley. It's a dense urban neighborhood with houses close to one another, but the owner has done an incredible job of creating a very attractive and private garden in the back complete with hot tub. I enjoyed it in the morning with a book and the evening with a beverage. I'd certainly recommend it. 13 August 2015 - 19:25:47

Lisa's place was perfect for us. We were able to walk everywhere we needed to. It is close to the BART so we just walked there and took it into San Fran and back to the airport. The place was very clean and had everything we needed to make our son and his friends Thanksgiving dinner, PLENTY of space for entertaining as the place is laid out very smart. The hot tub in the back with outdoor shower was a total bonus and relaxing and fun to use. The front and back gardens are gorgeous, complete with fig and lemon trees! The house is gated and very secure, the neighborhood is quiet and family friendly. We would definitely stay here again. 26 November 2017 - 18:43:00

My husband and I have stayed here before. We really enjoy this house. It's very comfortable for the two of us. We enjoy the gardened patio areas...one in the front of the house, the other in the back. We also enjoy the hot tub and outdoor shower. It's close to the shops and restaurants for us to walk to. 13 June 2017 - 15:17:00

We stayed at Lisa's place for 3 weeks in December with the goal of exploring what it would be like to live in the Berkeley area. The property is right in the middle of it, technically in Oakland, but a few blocks from both Rockridge and Berkeley. Lisa's place has everything you need including a comfy bed, fast internet, and a full kitchen. The porch and outside areas are wonderful for sitting and enjoying your coffee and breakfast. It was also great as we were allowed to have our cat with us, which made the entire experience feel a lot more like our home. We spent most of our time in Berkeley, especially the College Avenue area, but wish we had done more in Oakland. There's a ton of great places to check out over there too. Also, if you need to commute anywhere, Lisa's place is less than 5 minutes from the freeway. One thing I would note: the bedroom has 3 skylights. So if you're light sensitive or a late riser, make sure you have an eye mask. If you are an early riser, you'll love getting morning sun to wake you up. 27 December 2016 - 19:07:00

Rockridge House was perfect for us. It's charming and welcoming with comfortable places to be both inside and out. The area is great for being close to many attractions. Lisa was very responsive both prior to and during our stay and that was much appreciated. We are definitely planning to stay here again on our next trip to Berkeley. 14 July 2016 - 17:03:00

Every inch of this charming craftsman bungalow has been cared for and loved. Full of colorful, charming details (there's a "critter" on every windowsill and cabinet), this is simply an enchanting cottage with a garden full of plants that seem like they were grown in a fairy tale. Although the house itself is older and has an antique charm, the appliances are modern - complete with a water-saving toilet with smart dual flush, double-level dishwasher, chef-style appliances. And while our son loved the vibrating, massage bed, he slept very comfortably on the futon couch. The entire neighborhood is full of similar houses and friendly people - a lovely walking area. 26 November 2015 - 17:48:00

My husband and I spent the month of July in this beautifully renovated, light-filled home. Lisa is an exceptional hostess who has created a warm and welcoming environment. The kitchen is fully equipped with all necessary appliances, pots and pans, utensils, and even spices. I especially appreciated the high quality washer/dryer and gas stove. We loved the beautiful gardens in both the front and back. They create a real sense of privacy. We truly enjoyed the neighborhood and walked to numerous little coffee shops, restaurants and markets. We walked in many different directions between Lisa's house and various shops/restaurants along College Avenue and always felt safe. We cherished our Rockridge stay and will be back! 21 August 2015 - 02:57:53
