About listing

Location: The Marais, oldest and most colorful neighborhood in Paris. This apartment has an unobstructed view of the Seine and the Isle Saint Louis, and is just a block from Metro Line 1, providing easy access to most of the city's historic monuments, from the Bastille Opera to the Louvre to the Champs Elysees. It was built just inside the medieval city walls, the best-preserved remnant still visible down the block. Description: On the fourth floor, with elevator, of a late nineteenth century building, this centrally air-conditioned (!) 31 square meter (336 square feet) apartment is bathed in light from three large south-facing windows. Antique oak floors have been lovingly restored, and the kitchen and bath are finished with elegant porcelain tiles which echo the pale hues of a 17th century Parisian limestone wall, a portion of which is exposed in a decorative niche. There is more than adequate storage for luggage and clothing making the apartment comfortable and practical for a stay of any duration. Decoration and furnishings include raw silk drapes with sheers, comfortable sofa-bed to accommodate a third person, dining table and chairs with seating for four, and a writing desk with hi-speed computer connection. Built-in niches at the head of the bed are equipped with switches for reading lamps and room lighting, and a digital alarm clock. Other amenities include a washer/dryer, dishwasher and flat screen TV with CNN, BBC and other premium channels. We offer FULL CONCIERGE services - we will meet you at arrival to your apartment, and we are available 24/7 during your stay for questions or advice. We also offer CHAUFFEUR service to and from the airport (90E/one way/2 guests) - direct from customs with a sign with your name on it, to the apartment, luggage in hand! Who is perfect for this apartment? Any single traveler or couple who value the tangible remnants of Paris’s long, rich history and the creature comforts of a fully renovated, highly functional, air conditioned space. Why do I love this apartment? It has the rare combination of a beautiful view and quiet calm in a less busy corner of the Marais, while being only a stone’s throw from a major Metro line. Wonderful restaurants and shops are steps away, and when you are home, the apartment envelops you in comfort and that indescribable Parisian sunlight. Keywords: Apartment

From soup to nuts, this rental was terrific. The deposit and payments were handled quickly and efficiently, as was every aspect of our stay. The apartment was beautiful, in pristine condition -- comfortable bed, crisp linens -- and well equipped. The concierge met us to show us around and was available for questions. There was a thorough handbook describing everything from what to do with trash to where to find great bakeries. This stands out as one of the finest vacation experiences we have ever had! Btw, the little cafe downstairs is wonderful! Extremely friendly, excellent food and wine and very popular and lively. The listing was very accurate and the location was superb. We hope to return some day! 18 May 2014 - 22:05:29

A charming apartment in a lovely neighborhood with a view that looks like a postcard. Just a few blocks away from a cheese shop, wine shop and several bakeries. Marc, the concierge was just great. I want to go back to my home away from home tres bientot! Launne Drette, California 19 June 2014 - 21:59:12

My wife and I had a LOVELY stay at this apartment over New Years. The layout and furnishings were cozy and comfortable. The kitchen it small but efficient and frankly, we only used it for coffee and to store our cheese purchases. The windows let in the most gorgeous light at all times of the day. Just beautiful. The storage for clothing and suitcases was so nice we were able to put everything away so that every time we walked back into the apartment, it felt like home, not a hotel room. Loads of good eats nearby including Miss Manon down the road for baked goods/breakfast / Caf Favorite for basically everything breakfast, lunch, snacks, late night cocktail. La Mangerie is an AWESOME tapas restaurant about 5 minutes away and Chez Josephine was a lovely bistro for lunch in a nearby square. The options are endless. Tourism-wise its easy to get to EVERYTHING. 5-7 minute stroll to Notre Dame, slightly longer walk (or EASY quick metro) to the Louvre/Tulieries/Centre Pompidou and many of the other must sees. The concierge Marc was great too. He met us right at the apartment when we arrived and had loads of helpful tips. As soon as we can find the time, we WILL be back. 05 January 2015 - 13:57:54

We loved our time at Rue de Charlemagne. A great place to stage an exploration of Paris both on foot and Metro. Quite comfortable with lovely natural light. Nice surprises included concierge service and free internet phone to make calls home to the U.S. Elevator is not always reliable. We hope to return! 06 November 2017 - 13:58:00

This spacious apt is comfortable, charming, private, and quiet; yet within a few moments walk from the Seine & busy Paris streets. Bright light & fresh air fills the apt from tall windows, opening over a quiet street. The bath & kitchen are modern in every aspect and the apt has the most comfortable bed I know in all of Europe! The booking was easy, efficient; and during our stay, our concierge, Mathias, was responsive and helpful, even though it was during the Christmas holiday. We felt like we belonged to Paris in this great space. Each time we opened the gate leading from the quiet, private courtyard to the bustling Rue Saint-Paul, it gave us the magical feeling that we had just stepped onto a French movie set: "scene one, take two, action!" The Metro, bus line, Starbucks, bistros, shops were all with a few minutes walk from the apt. Our only regret was that we had to leave. We look forward to another stay in the not-too-distant future. 28 January 2016 - 03:13:55

The apartment was a perfect base for our visit to Paris. From our initial correspondence with Jim to Mathias meeting us at the apartment upon our arrival - everything was handled professionally and efficiently. The apartment is on the 4th floor of a quaint building on a quiet street near St. Paul Church. It was comfortable, well-maintained and very well-equipped. The weather was perfect on our visit, so we walked to every major site from the apartment. The area around the apartment features great restaurants, shops and including a bakery that we visited every morning for breakfast. We would certainly rent this apartment again. 17 May 2016 - 02:16:02

We thoroughly enjoyed our time in this tasteful, well-designed apartment in the wonderful Marais neighborhood of Paris. Everyone associated with our rental, from Jim Braude, to Mathias, to the drivers to and from the airport (so nicely arranged for us by Mathias) were just wonderful. There is no better team to make your stay in Paris all that it should be! And, everything Paris has to offer is at your fingertips from this lovely apartment -- by foot, bus or metro. Thanks for thinking of everything to make for a lovely, memorable stay for us! 03 June 2016 - 17:26:34

Everything was great!!. The place was light and airy and very close to everything. It was nice to stay in 'the middle' of things but be on a quite street. The bed was comfortable and the shower was big enough. We walked all over the city from this apartment. The next time we are in Paris we will stay there again. 21 June 2016 - 19:39:19

I am a fellow VRBO owner and have to say the quality, professionalism and quality of this unit and this team are FANTASTIC! If your going to Paris for a weekend or week this is a great Studio for 2, it has everything you need and the location is one of the Best in all of Paris! The building is right across from the Metro 1 line at St. Paul so you have all of Paris at your door, and easy walk to the Sein, and the many tourist sites on Paris. And great cafe, groceries and local stores right at the base of the building. The bed was VERY comfortable!, the unit has everything you need SO MUCH BETTER than a hotel! I HIGHLY recommend taking advantage of the car service to and from the airport, better pricing and NO hassles! 08 July 2016 - 15:24:15

I cannot say enough good things about this wonderful studio in Paris! It is well located near many of the major tourist sites but amazingly SO quiet--we couldn't believe we were in this bustling city! It is well situated to transportation via Metro or buses as well. Importantly for spoiled Americans, it had an elevator (which was essential for my mother) and air conditioning (which we needed!) The concierge service was very helpful as was the car service to and from the airport! The studio itself was good for 2 people and amenities such as frig, microwave and washer much appreciated. We will definately be back and may even try some of the other properties in their collection. 28 July 2016 - 20:42:55

This is the perfect studio for 2 in a great central location in Paris. It was close to the Metro line, groceries, wine, bakeries, restaurants and local attractions. Very convenient! And beautiful! The bed was very comfortable which is so important when traveling. Our car service from the airport was super as was our concierge person who greeted us on the first day. Simply the best! Can't wait to return to our "home" in Paris. 24 August 2016 - 18:31:36

We spent one week in this wonderful studio apartment and cannot wait to go back. It will likely become our home-away-from-home in Paris. First of all, the apartment is not only exactly as described so that there are no surprises and everything is exactly as it should be per the description, but it's actually even better than that. To say that this apartment is quiet is an understatement. We never heard any street noise even though the windows face the street -- it's a small and ultra quiet street. To have this kind of quiet in Paris is amazing. The bed, as others have said, is extremely comfortable. Everything in the studio is very well thought out, from the cubbies next to each side of the bed with lamps, to the excellent lighting throughout the apartment, to the set up of the kitchen, to the closet and storage space. The big windows provide a lot of light while the excellent drapes keep the apartment dark when you want to sleep. The apartment is air conditioned -- a rarity in Paris and something we definitely needed as Paris experienced a heat wave while we were there. It is also a fantastic asset to have a concierge assigned to you for the duration of your stay. It was reassuring to know that we could contact our concierge for anything we needed. The manager of this apartment is very responsive, available, enthusiastic, warm, and helpful. He even texted me from his vacation. The location of this apartment simply cannot be beat. It is utter perfection to be two blocks from the Seine, right across from the Ile St. Louis. This means you can walk to Notre Dame, throughout the Marais, across both Ile de la Cit and Ile St Louis as well as get to the Left Bank within minutes. Furthermore, the building itself has two entrances, so all you have to do is exit the far side and you are on one of the best streets in the Marais for everything you need: bakery, fresh produce, chocolate, wine, prepared foods, supermarket. And you are right at one of the most convenient metro stops: St. Paul. At the base of the building there is even a lovely restaurant with delicious food. We loved staying here and recommend it to you most highly. 22 September 2016 - 20:12:20

My wife and I absolutely loved your apartment at 16 Rue de Charlemagne in Paris! What a great location! I think we have spoiled ourselves because, if/when we go back to Paris, I cannot fathom staying anyplace else. Also, kudos to Marc and Mathias - - Marc referred us to some great restaurants and set up drivers and tours while Mathias made us feel at home. We are telling all of our friends about your place. 14. Our nine-day stay in Paris was lovely in every way. The Voltaire flat provided a small but complete kitchen area and compact bath, leaving a quite spacious living/sleeping area that was comfortable and charming. It is on the fourth floor of a lovely old building (with a lift). Our view down a narrow street provided a glimpse of the riverbank. Marc, our concierge was very helpful, attentive, willing to do more than we required, and always available by phone. He obviously enjoys his work. The Le Marais neighborhood is safe and pleasant to walk around in, with shops, cafes, and a subway station very nearby though we easily walked to the museums we visited. 06 February 2017 - 01:56:52

I appreciate the work that went into updating this little apartment: new kitchen, new bath, new lighting and decor. A friend who visited was so taken by the oak flooring that he ran his hand over it and said he wanted to lick it. We felt very much at home. One advantage of an apartment is that one can cook, which saves money and, in our case, saves energy. It is easier for me to make a little breakfast and a little dinner than to take my husband, who is disabled, out to eat three times a day. Even though the studio comes with only a two-burner stove and a microwave oven, they were more than sufficient for our purposes. My husband is at the limit of disability for this apartment. He is able to walk a little and climb a few stairs, with assistance. It was a lot of work getting him and the small wheelchair into the tiny elevator. But we did it. He did not, however, take a bath in the beautiful big bathtub, which is too high for me to help him into. He just got a sponge bath seated on the toilet. If you or your companion is disabled or partially disabled, I suggest finding a different place. That's my only caveat. Other than that, I whole-heartedly recommend this studio as a proper pied-a-terre for a stay in Paris. 10 November 2017 - 12:41:00

You really cannot go wrong with this property or any property offered by the company that manages it ( We had an unexpected emergency during our trip, and how the company handled it speaks volumes about their integrity and hospitality. My husband, son (age 12) and I rented the Charlemagne/Voltaire efficiency apartment for five nights. It is a fantastic apartment. Plenty of space for three people. Very bright and airy due to the large windows, sparkling clean, and the beds extremely comfortable (even the pull-out). The location is easy walking distance to many major sights and there are subway stops nearby. Two nights in, however, the building management had to shut off our water due to a leak into the apartment below ours. Anyone who owns a house (or lives in one) knows that things break down from time to time, so this should not dissuade you from renting this apartment! I am sharing the story because a good rental is one where the owner takes good care of you during your stay (when things are going perfectly, but most importantly when problems arise). We reported the leak, and Marc (our concierge) appeared at our door in less than five minutes to investigate. When he could not identify the cause of the leak (or consult a plumber -- due to a bank holiday), he immediately moved us to a gorgeous three bedroom apartment just two blocks away for the duration of our stay. Yes -- a very large, newly-renovated THREE bedroom apartment, meticulously decorated in beautiful antiques. No additional charge for the upgrade. Both Marc and the owner (who reached out from the U.S. to check on us after our move) were apologetic, helpful and supportive. They literally bent over backward to make sure we were comfortable, and we certainly were. So I can say without hesitation or reservation that we would use this company again. Indeed, this is the only company I would use to rent an apartment in Paris, in light of our experience. You simply cannot go wrong. And to Marc and Jim -- thank you for taking such good care of us. We had an amazing time at BOTH apartments, and we will definitely be back! 31 August 2017 - 13:28:00

This was a great stay. The professional service and timeliness was nothing short of spectacular. The location was also marvelous. It is a 2 minute walk to the subway, 10 minute walk to Notre Dame and 5 minutes to excellent food and shopping. Marc is very knowledgable of the area and very helpful. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to everyone. 06 December 2017 - 15:23:00

This is a great apartment in a very handy spot in the Marais. Close to St Paul Metro station, the property is well maintained and beautifully appointed. Marc was so very helpful showing us the apartment and suggesting places to see and facilities, cafes and shops in the vicinity. We had a wonderful time here and highly recommend it to anyone. 22 December 2017 - 11:28:00

The owner of this lovely studio apartment made the most of its minimal square footage to provide a cozy but comfortable option for my wife and myself to enjoy our week in Paris. Located on a quiet street in the fashionable Le Marais district with proximity to the St. Paul metro station and the 69 bus line we found the location simply wonderful. It was a particularly hot and humid week in Paris, though, and the air conditioner broke down on the second day of our week-long stay. We contacted the owner, Jim Braude, who arranged for our personal concierge to move us to another (much larger) apartment just a few short blocks away for the remainder of our stay. This remarkable display of customer service salvaged our week and provided us a wonderful sojourn in our favorite city in Europe. 02 September 2017 - 19:50:00
