We had a great week in Amsterdam. The houseboat had everything we needed and the location was perfect. We could walk to almost anywhere in the city from there. The bed was very comfy too (It's a treat to have a king size bed, especially since most standard hotel rooms in Europe don't always have them). The communication with host was great. Would definitely stay there again. 21 March 2016 - 15:55:38

This is our third stay on Lionel's houseboat and we hope to keep coming back. Lionel and Hans are most welcoming and gave us good recommendations on places to go and local restaurants - we had a lovely Thai meal a few streets away from the boat. The boat is cosy in Winter and in the Spring lets in plenty of light. It is beautifully decorated and perfect for a romantic getaway. 12 April 2016 - 20:30:04

This houseboat is a cozy and unique place to stay in central Amsterdam. The interior is decorated in a homey, bohemian style--a welcome change from the average hotel room. The boat is on a very quiet canal, but you'll see the occasional boat or duck will float by. While neighborhood is very quiet and residential, it is just a short walk away from the more active parts of the city. Lionel is a very gracious and attentive host who is always available for questions or neighborhood recommendations. 17 April 2016 - 18:20:50

Good experience, the authentic way of live in a very pretty houseboat. It is like a mini-museum. Perfect to visit msterdam walking, because is in the center of all the tourist places, but in a very quiet place. Lionel is a perfect host. I will recommend this place for sure. Perfect for romatic couples, but not for people with disabilities. 25 April 2016 - 10:05:08

We arrived at our houseboat and our host was there to greet us as arranged. He showed us around the boat and how everything worked. He assured us he would b at our disposal 24/7. The boat itself is long and narrow as you would expect. It has city water and all he conveniences of home. The king size bed was a bit soft for ou backs suggesting the mattress might be due fo replacement (?). The kitchen is adequate but we did not try to cook. We only used he refrigerator. There is quite a bit of furniture in the houseboat's small space lading us to wonder why nine chairs. We would have preferred a bit less clutter and more room for us. Hovever, we wouldn't trade our three nights aboard the houseboat for the fanciest hotel in Amsterdam. Everyone we spoke to (locals) seemed delighted that we stayed in on of their houseboats. Although we are tourists, we wan to have a local exerincee wherever we go. 29 May 2016 - 07:16:48
  6. This is a truly different way of staying which I hope all travelers that normally stay in hotels will try at least once. The house boat has a great 5 star location with walking distance to all. Top! The house boat has a personal interior and a great bed. You get used to all the boats passing that can see straight in if you forget to close the blinds. Everything is working well on the boat. So why not higher than 3 star? For us it is the smell. The damp smell in the house boat. For us this was a draw back. You can easy smell and it is pretty strong. Not mold odor smell but like a damp caravan smell. If this is ok for you it is a 4 star. For us this was not appreciated so is is a 2 star for us. We unpacked our bags coming home and all our textiles smell from the boat. 07 June 2016 - 05:42:04

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay on the houseboat at the end of May 2016. We were hoping for a unique experience of staying right on the canals and this was a great fit. The houseboat is centrally located in Amsterdam and easy walking distance to everything, yet is on a quiet side street away from the chaos and noise of the busier parts of the city. We loved the charming decor of the houseboat, and the bed was very comfortable. We loved being able to open the windows right onto the water. My only complaint is that everything felt very damp while inside the houseboat, but I guess that is to be expected right on the water! Lionel was very welcoming and helpful leading up to and throughout our stay. He was an excellent host! 12 June 2016 - 14:01:10

Wonderful and accomodating host who greeted us with a pot of coffee, restaurant recommendations, and neighborhood orientation. He was very responsive to our emails before our stay, and continued to be at our service during our stay. The houseboat was conveniently located to anything you might want to see in Amsterdam. we covered the city on foot. some walks longer than others, but an enjoyable way to see the city. Self-catering supplies readily at hand. All sorts of restaurants and street stalls. Comfortable bed and good shower. 29 June 2016 - 10:40:33

The owners made finding and staying at the houseboat easy and wonderful. Excellent location on a quiet canal easy to everything. The week we were there is rained a lot and the houseboat was a nice cozy place to getaway. In the sun it was cheery and fun--opening the windows to have the ducks come by. I totally recommend--especially if you have been to Amsterdam before and want something other than a hotel or house experience. 15 August 2016 - 01:25:07
  10. We absolutely loved our three nights on Lionel's houseboat. Our stay there was definitely the best part of our European vacation, and we truly hated to leave. The houseboat is on a beautiful canal in a peaceful neighborhood, yet it's just a very short walk to museums, shops, open air market, and restaurants. We went on one of those guided canal tours, and our captain highlighted this canal as "one of the most beautiful in all of Amsterdam". We pointed out the houseboat and told him we were staying there, and the captain said, "You are very lucky to be staying on this canal!". Lionel was the perfect host. He welcomed us warmly, even though we were late. He told us everything we needed to know about the boat and the neighborhood. I accidentally left something behind when we left, and Lionel was so gracious about sending it to me, even though I know it meant a lot of extra work on his part. He is a wonderful host -- a true gentleman. We hope to visit Amsterdam again in a year or two, and we will definitely stay on Lionel's houseboat again. It made our entire stay in Amsterdam very special. 30 August 2016 - 23:09:30
  11. Lionel's quaint and quirky houseboat ideally positioned to enjoy the full experience of Amsterdam was where we spent a comfortable and relaxing 3 nights. The boat was the perfect way to enjoy our weekend visit. The booking process was straight forward and Lionel provided all the information needed to ensure our journey went with ease. We were met at the boat and instantly made to feel at home and welcomed. A lovely time had by us both. Big thanks and see you soon. 07 November 2016 - 14:58:59

We absolutely loved our short stay at the houseboat. Beautifully decorated and accommodated with everything you could possibly need. Great location, very quiet and peaceful but too far away from the livelyness of Amsterdam! 16 November 2016 - 17:59:07
  13. Excellent communication from boat owner. An experience that you couldn't get from hotel stay. Best to get transportation right to the boat house if you have many large luggages, the road on the way have lots of gaps and holes making it very difficult to wheel!! Bicycle riders and cars along the way so double the efforts. 19 December 2016 - 05:32:55

My wife was excited that our stay in Amsterdam would require no moving. One week, one place made sense. First of all, Lionel and Hans were great hosts. Lionel was responsive and responsible. When my Garmin watch fell out of the suitcase, he located it and mailed it back to me. As others have said, this is a very good location which is within walking distance of just about everything that you might want to see. Try the little Thai restaurant just down the street. Very good Thai food and non touristy. There is a market about a five minute walk away with beer, wine and sushi! We did find some challenges, however, which are mentioned in other reviews but not as much as I would have expected. Staying for a week, we were hoping to unpack our clothes and put our suitcases away. But, there are no dressers to put your stuff away in. You will pretty much have to live out of your suitcase. And, since the bed takes up almost all of the bedroom, you're grabbing your clothes from the suitcase which is in the living room. Second, as others have mentioned, there is furniture especially chairs everywhere. So the rooms seem cluttered and overloaded with "stuff". The ambience and feel was fine and I enjoyed waving to passing boats. Most of all, we loved Amsterdam! 10 May 2017 - 22:44:00

After spending a full week at Lionel's lovely houseboat in 2016, we decided to book it again for our two weeks 2017 trip in Amsterdam.. Lionel and Laurent are the kindest hosts. The canal is quiet and located in the center so it's close to everything by walk or bike. One minute to the metro station too. Equipment is conform to the ad and kitchen is well equiped. We had a wonderful time again and never wanted to leave. 13 June 2017 - 15:55:00

Stayed on this quirky, unique lovey little houseboat for 4 nights on the recommendation from a friend. Its great! Lovely location, super quiet. The houseboat can get a little cold in the winter so leave your heaters on low so its cosy. The shower is really nice and hot which was great and theres everything you need on board. Would definitely return :) 14 November 2017 - 18:30:00

The houseboat is absolutely charming. We were here in November and it was nice and cosy, we weren't cold at all. The kitchen has everything you could need and more for making your own meals. We felt very at home and loved waking up to the ducks and the swans at our window. Lionel was an excellent host and gave us up to date information about how to find the houseboat and recommendations for what to do in Amsterdam. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our time on the houseboat and would recommend it as a place to stay for those who like to do something a little different. Thank you Lionel! 20 November 2017 - 16:54:00

Centrally located, I felt very much like a resident instead of a visitor. Highly recommend this boat! 06 December 2017 - 10:43:00

Lionel got in touch before we arrived and gave us directions to the boat. We were welcomed by Victor who showed us around and explained how everything worked. People seem to favour the scandic style these days but not us. This boat was quirky, stylish and comfortable. We immediately felt at home. A brilliant base to see Amsterdam. We loved every minute 28 January 2018 - 18:48:00
