About listing

What a fantastic central location, steeped in history! From the apartment window, looking down the pedestrian walkway below with its centuries old cobblestones, you can watch the comings and goings from Le Procope, the oldest restaurant in Paris, and the place where the French guillotine was first tried out! High from your 4th European floor perch, you will enjoy watching the passers by from this large, comfortable apartment. The apartment building is actually located over an ‘arcade’ area, with several shops and restaurants, limited only to pedestrians on a lovely cobblestone street. This apartment boasts of over 70 m2 (about 750 ft2) of space and is located in a very secure, elevator serviced building. It comfortably sleeps up to 4 persons; 3 adults and a young adult or child. The main bedroom has a king size bed. The second smaller bedroom has bunk beds which are meant only for children or young adults. The top bunk is accessed by a ladder, the mattresses are 190 cm x 80 cm (73 inches x 31 in) and are recommended for persons less than 6 feet tall - an adult could sleep on the bottom bunk. Parents must use caution with children on the bunk beds, especially when using the wooden ladder that is permanently attached to the unit. Most of the apartment has tile flooring, except the bedrooms which have original but refurbished wood parquet floors. The open kitchen with a generous amount of counter space has a three burner stove top, an oven, refrigerator/freezer combo, microwave, dishwasher and is separated by a counter from the living area. The higher elevation and southeast exposure allows for a good deal of light in the apartment. A large dining table is more than enough for six people. The living room is also large, with a sofa and armchair, plenty of room to relax and recoup after a busy day sightseeing. A large bathroom services the apartment and includes a large sink, a WC, a bathtub and shower combo unit – the shower head is wall mounted and can be removed to be used as a hand held sprayer. There is also a washer/dryer unit conveniently located in the bathroom. This is a quiet apartment, the property owner has installed double pane windows and the street below only allows pedestrians; no vehicular traffic – not even bicycles! You can hear birds chirp on sunny mornings! The apartment – where Juliette Drouet, Victor Hugo’s lover lived in the mid 1800's – is accessed by a pedestrian only arcade which was the main street of a medieval part of Paris that was miraculously left intact, and protected from “modernization”, when under Louis Napoleon, Blvd. St. Germain was opened by demolishing most of the Latin Quarter. When you step outside your apartment building each day, you are surrounded by cafes, restaurants, chocolate shops, outdoor cafes, and tons of history! From here a 12-15 minute stroll will take you to the Cathedral of Notre Dame and in only 5 minutes to the River Seine and all of the St. Michel/St. Germain area. The Odeon metro station is only 2 minute walk and the St. Michel/Notre Dame RER, connecting directly with Paris’ two airports is 7-9 minute walk. Fun location with many restaurants literally right out the door. Great view. Can be a little noisy with windows open, but makes for great Paris experience. 03 September 2017 - 22:42:00

The locacin is great but the apartment needs much improvement. No lobby, entrance to the building dirty, same as elevator. Rats in the trash room. Old furniture. Plates, glasses etc minimum quality. Electrical connections in the kitchen a mess. A little loving care will go a log way. View from the balconies, fantastic. 18 July 2016 - 23:58:38
