About listing

Charming, quaint & clean rural retreat. Once a mid-1800 bunk house, this little cottage was lovingly restored and is a wonderful place to stay in the heart of Wine Country. Just 14 miles from the Sonoma Town Square, 10 mins to downtown Petaluma, Point Reyes National Park 40 mins and 1- 1:15 hours from major airports... Located just off a country road, adjacent to hundreds of acres of beautiful, open ranch land. Beautiful sunrise and sunset views. Recreation outside your doorstep includes hiking, biking, amongst other options. The road riding from here is extraordinary - some of the best in the country. Hiking on the property, or up this dead end country - many active choices. A room with a view...a great full size bed with comfy linens…looking out french doors into a oak forest. Furnished with a love seat, outdoor seating area, claw foot tub, free WiFi, and fine coffee for your morning - this place is quality and comfort. It is a simple place - no TV or AC... 12 years here in Petaluma I have only wanted AC one or two nights, it cools down almost every night. This is a small dedicated guest house, and not a room in my house for rent, set up like one of the best hotels I have enjoyed. See you soon I hope. County of Sonoma also requires the following: TOT Certificate #1425N, max guests = 2 (unless you have pets or little kids or others that we have pre-approved) and max parking = 1 car... and lastly and I like this one... quite hours are from 10pm to 7am

We had a lovely two nights at this cottage! It is small but spacious, clean and well kept. The only down fall my husband found was there wasn't a television and he couldn't watch the American League series! Our host was good. He left us a note on how to contact him and otherwise left us on our own. We did chat with him one morning and he offered to get us fresh eggs to enjoy as well he gave us suggestions on where to eat. There isn't a kitchen or microwave but you can go next door and use what is there. It is a bit of a drive into Sonoma- about 20 minutes. Petaluma is about 10 minutes to drive to. The bathroom light works through motion so if you are an early bird like me you might end up in the dark while showering! The quick fix to that was moving my arm outside of the curtain! It wasn't a problem at all- just a little startling! As for the views- breathtaking. We had deer to view both at dawn and at dusk. If you want a quaint cottage in the country you won't be disappointed! 30 October 2016 - 14:15:00

My husband and I spent a delightful Thanksgiving in the cottage. It was perfectly situated near downtown Petaluma. What a wonderful place to stay to unwind from hectic work lives and feel grateful for all of the good in our lives!. Nicholas provided everything we could have needed. We will definitely return. 29 November 2016 - 02:28:00

We stayed here for five nights in November 2015. The studio was tiny, with no television or kitchen, but we were allowed to use a small kitchen just steps away in a house on the property. We didn't mind not having a television; we were busy and out a lot, and had our computers for keeping in touch and entertainment. The wifi worked just fine. I was happy to see a couple of cats nearby when we woke up the first day, and loved walking up the road and seeing/taking photos of the cows and the beautiful scenery. There was a small refrigerator and a Keurig type coffee maker. The bathroom was very cute, with a claw foot tub, which had a shower that worked well (being in California, we were definitely more conscious of our water use). My only complaint about the bathroom was the lighting, which was terrible for applying makeup (mirrors and light were in opposite areas). My husband's only complaint was that the bed was uncomfortable. We were in Petaluma to visit family, and enjoyed going to Point Reyes Beach and the Armstrong Redwoods. A couple of the restaurants we liked in Petaluma were Central Market and Seared. A place I would highly advise against was the Stumptown Grill/Brewery. I left my entire lunch on the table....just awful. The highlight of the 50 Acre Ranch we stayed on was definitely the open space and the cattle :-) 16 December 2015 - 16:30:00

We loved everything about staying at this ranch property! The cabin itself was very comfortable, with nice linens, a great claw-foot soaking tub, and coffee for the morning. We enjoyed sitting on the porch, watching the sunset and listening to the wind. Nick was very easy to communicate with, even though we never met him (he was out of town during our stay). He allowed us to use the laundry in one of the out buildings, and also to cook breakfast in the kitchen attached to his office. We even got to eat some eggs fresh out of the "Coop deVille" on the property. I didn't even mind being woken by the roosters each morning! We loved exploring Petaluma as well. Lagunitas Brewery is very easy to get to from the ranch, and well worth visiting. We dined at Wild Goat Bistro, which was friendly with good food, and also toured the Adobe State Park. We would have loved to have stayed longer, but we had to move on. We would for sure go back and stay again, anytime we were near Petaluma! Highly recommended. 03 September 2016 - 21:29:00

The cottage was pristine & beautifully restored. The location had lovely views. The host was very personable & accommodating. It was hot during our stay & he brought us a fan. There was a movie shooting on his property and it didn't bother us but he refunded one nights stay. Most of all, this great property was welcoming to our 3 small/medium dogs for a small fee. It's so hard to find pet friendly lodging reasonably priced in this area. Loved our stay. Definitely recommend!! 17 June 2017 - 16:11:00

We stayed at the cottage for 3 amazing nights. The house is cozy, serene and in the middle of a lovely 50 acre farm. The views are outstanding, and it's hard to believe that the property is only minutes from bustling downtown Petaluma. The roads around the property go on for miles, and it would be a wonderful spot for walkers, runners or cyclists. Nick was courteous and helpful, and the cottage was extremely well maintained and accurately represented in the pictures. 30 December 2014 - 01:46:17

Nicks cabin is hard to describe; its so different than anything I could have imagined. A completely renovated 1880s structure that is modern in all its conveniences new windows & shades, new bathroom, spotlessly clean and decorated so cute. And then its about four miles from Petaluma (a quick cab ride to dinner with plenty of wine) but completely rural on a quiet walkable road surrounded by organic farms. Cows, chickens and pigs are all nearby but far enough to avoid noise or smell. It sits on a hill overlooking breathtaking views of Petaluma and beyond. We spent an afternoon reading and drinking wine on the porch marveling at the views. What an incredibly romantic step back to a simpler time. Well be back soon! 02 January 2015 - 05:41:13

I stayed on the property for a week. It was absolutely unbelievable! Everything about Nick's magical 50 acre ranch is fabulous! Everyday, I hiked around the property. I found many sweet spots to just sit quietly and enjoy the birds, sunshine, wonderful smells and exquisitely gorgeous rolling countryside. Nick is a entertaining host. He is well traveled and a highly spirited adventurer. His smiling and thoughtful energy is infectious! He gave me lots of space to create my own adventure and made me feel like I was family and very welcome on the property. The morning light is an orchestra of warm sunny beams. The sunsets are long and soothing to all the senses. I brought my bike and rode up the hill everyday. Each day a little further. On the last day, I reached the top of the mountain. The views are unimaginable. The occasional car was always friendly and cautious while passing me on this beautiful winding country road. Nick has a lot of friends and smiling colorful characters that drop by the ranch to say hi. Everyday is a new adventure! I will return again soon and tell all my friends about this magical experience. Nick is living the dream and he joyfully brings you into it. I am very thankful for the experience. 03 January 2015 - 23:57:43

I stayed in this little cabin for a week. It was on a farm in Petaluma. Very quiet and private, with incredible nearby views. The first evening I hiked to the top of Mt. Sonoma from my cabin for the view of the sunset. The next morning I woke early to find breakfast in nearby downtown Petaluma. Everyday I drove a short distance for a hike along the Pacific (Pt. Reyes, Sonoma Beach). There is no kitchen in this cabin but I didn't feel the lack because I wanted to explore and eat elsewhere. A great place as a base for exploration. 09 April 2015 - 15:23:44

Apologies in advance for the long read, this place is pretty special and deserves the detail! My girlfriend and me stayed here over a long weekend for a wedding we were attending nearby. The cottage is super cozy; the perfect combo of old fashioned charm (clawfoot tub, oak floors, white tongue and groove pine ceilings, etc.) with all the modern amenities such as new lighting, plumbing, heating, window treatments, etc. Not to be overlooked, the queen bed with cozy quilts and really nice bedding was fantastic; we both slept like a rock each night we were there. All the windows face in such a way to offer great natural lighting without compromising your privacy. The main house is across the street and mostly out of view. There is a vintage airstream trailer nearby that did appear to be occupied but it did not infringe on our privacy whatsoever. Surrounded by oaks and perched on the edge of the foothills offering panoramic vistas of the Petaluma valley, the overall ambiance of the property is nothing short of wonderful. The native song birds, deer and wild turkeys that frequently paid visit added to the peaceful feeling of being immersed in nature. And if you walk up the (low traffic) country road a piece, you're treated to even more spectacular views, wildlife and bucolic farmlands. Keep in mind, the unit only has a mini fridge and a coffee maker so most of your meals will have to come from town, which is only a few minutes drive away and has no shortage of wonderful options (I recommend Central Market in old town Petaluma - amazing!). Certainly not a deal breaker, just something to keep in mind when planning. There was a complimentary bottle of wine and pair of glasses provided, which was a really nice surprise touch! 12 May 2015 - 18:37:04

The views of the fields and pastures were breathtaking on the way to the cottage. We got there right as the sun was setting. Nick met us as we pulled up to show us the cottage and tell us his favorite spots to eat--- which were all great recommendations! The cottage itself was perfect. It was clean, cozy and the bathroom was surprisingly big. No kitchen, but we enjoyed going to town for all of our meals. We actually spent most of our time in downtown Petaluma. Also nick was nice enough to let us bring our posse of dogs. Thanks for accommodating the pooches, nick! We will definitely be back next time we want to visit Petaluma. 25 May 2015 - 19:55:53

My Girlfriend and I along with our 5 month old Labrador Retriever had the most incredible time spending our one year anniversary at Nick's Sonoma Country Cottage over Memorial Day Weekend. Upon our arrival, Nick graciously welcomed us and gave us a tour of the incredible property and recommended some of the best activities and places to visit that Sonoma County has to offer. The Cottage itself, is beautiful with an extremely comfortable bed and very nice Bathroom. Every morning we woke up and were able to freely hiking around the property with a cup of coffee in one hand and the pups leash in the other. Shortly there after venturing to some of the best breakfast food that I've ever had (i.e. 2 Niner Diner at the airport) that Nick recommended. A few of the Day trips that were conveniently located close to the property was the Jack London California State Park, Keller Winery which we joined their Wine Club, Lagunitas Brewery, and a little gem of a bar called Ernie's. Everything was less than a 20 minute drive and were all dog friendly. I highly recommend these activities. We were also able to take the country road where the property is located and hike up on Mount Sonoma. There was the most incredible views and beautiful wild life. This weekend getaway was a vacation we will never forget. It opened our eyes to a different type of travel and was much more relaxing that being in a stuffy hotel room. If you are considering visiting the Napa/Sonoma area, I highly recommend staying at the Cottage! Thank you again Nick for such a great time! 01 June 2015 - 16:02:57

I organized a trip to California for my partner's 30th birthday and we stayed at Nick's place for a few days. Before we even got there, Nick was already so nice and helpful. He kindly organized a birthday cake with a personal message so that I could surprise my partner when we arrived. As we wanted to watch the sunset with a home cooked meal, Nick prepared some chairs and blankets for us and gave us some eggs and greens from his yard... Between the fantastic view, the serene and quiet area, the delicious food and the "welcome" bottle of wine, we felt on top of the world! Thanks SO MUCH again Nick!! The cottage is as described, recently renovated, charming and romantic, nestled on the hill with only Nick's private ranch as neighbors... The bed is very comfortable, the bathroom is homey and practical (bring a hairdryer if you are picky about this - I didn't mind). We used the kitchen located in the next building and had the necessary appliances and tools to cook breakfast and dinner. There are tons of wonderful landscapes and outdoors scenery, we even saw deers and foxes! And it only takes 35-40 minutes to go to Napa valley and enjoy some wine tasting :) In a nutshell, if you feel like a peaceful, secluded retreat, this is your place!! We highly recommend it! 13 June 2015 - 16:31:12

I had an incredible time staying at the bunk house. It was charming and comfortable. Nick was helpful, informative, and organized. When he could not be there, his staff was just as helpful and fun. I liked being able to take walks and see the countryside. Most special for me was enjoying the evenings and mornings. I was a happy camper waking to the sunlight and open windows! The cows serenaded me in the mornings; the rooster and birds and baby chicks made me smile! I could easily make this my forever "bunk house" when I come to Petaluma to visit my grandbabies. 19 July 2015 - 21:56:26

A fantastic little spot on a huge sprawling property. Comfortable and quiet. We felt "away from it all", and yet just a quick jaunt into town when we needed. Nick was really entertaining with his enthusiasm for how he set the place up, and he pointed out several natural wonders, as well as great recommendations for eating and such (Topsy's!). 28 July 2015 - 00:30:19

This little cottage was perfect for my husband and I and Nicolas was a wonderful host. It's very scenic and was so peaceful...a great little getaway. It's located close to downtown Petaluma but far enough away to get away from it all. We went exploring everywhere while there. I would have to recommend the Wild Goat gourmet pizza I've ever had! Ernie's tin roof was a great little spot for a few beers and Lagunitas Brewery was only a few miles from the cottage. Sonoma is only about a 15 min drive to all the wineries if that's what your looking for and the town of Petaluma is adorable. The cottage is nestled on a cute little farm, and the bed was very comfortable. I would defiantly recommend staying here if your not in to having to have all the amenities but a truely different and peaceful experience. Thanks Nick! 27 August 2015 - 17:58:34

A clean, well lighted place. This adorable cottage was home base for us as we ventured around Petaluma, Point Reyes, Bodega Bay, Sonoma, and Napa. Nestled up on a green farm, but not too far from town, this cottage was a relaxing retreat after a day of exploring. It was so perfect we extended our stay an extra night. A big thank you to Nicholas, our friendly host. We hope to return soon! 26 April 2017 - 04:11:00
