We stayed in this apartment for 4 nights in December and loved it. As mentioned, Eric lives in the building and is very warm, friendly, and accommodating. He was able to give excellent advice, was prompt with all the transactions, and even had a few basics stocked for us on arrival. The apartment itself is on a quiet street just a block from Place des Vosges and is warm and inviting with eclectic decor and plenty of space. The kitchen is well stocked and there is a boulangerie literally 30 seconds away as well as cafes and markets within 2 minutes. The location is ideal for a stroll or walk to many attractions such as Notre Dame, Centre Pompidou, Bastille, Louvre. If you'd rather take the metro, key stops as few as 3 minutes away. I could not recommend the apartment highly enough if you want to get away from a typical hotel stay and into the heart of a trendy chic area with the locals. Eric is a wonderful host and I can't wait to visit and stay here again! 13 December 2011 - 14:31:10
  2. Our family (parents and two adult daughters) chose this apartment for our Christmas holiday based on the photos, description and stellar reviews provided by previous guests. Absolutely all of the details mentioned were unquestionably accurate! The location is ideal both for accessibility to major sites as well as neighborhood charms (boulangerie, bistrots, cafes, shops). The photos under-represent the charming eclectic mix of furnishings and the kitchen is particularly well outfitted with modern appliances and stylishly chosen tableware. The comfort systems (heating and on-demand hot water) operated seamlessly. Best of all, however, is the helpfulness of the owner/host. As mentioned by other guests all processes, including communication prior to arrival, were conducted reliably and graciously. Eric provides recommendations and location information for restaurants, bakeries, supermarkets, etc. and will even make restaurant reservations, when, as in our case, Christmas booking was challenging. He also offered to print tickets from an internet reservation. We would wholeheartedly recommend this property and hope to return soon ourselves. In fact, we now believe that choosing this apartment because of its location and amenities offered the single most significant contribution to making our stay in Paris so satisfying. 03 January 2012 - 01:04:12

i just returned from a week at this lovely apartment. the neighborhood is great, not overly commercial. just walk to the corner for your croissants or baquette. easy walk to the metro (and even the opera). pleasant walk to the pompidou. as everyone has stated, the owner, eric, is a pleasure to work with and was very flexible. the apartment is in a very secure building on a small side street behind place des vosges. the apartment is simply furnished but quite comfortable and cozy. even in the middle of january, during a cold, gray and rainy week, the apartment was a cozy place to come back to (what weather is better for going to museums and cafes?) the ceiling beams are great, lending so much character to the space. the kitchen has everything you will need. my cousin slept in the bedroom and i slept on one of the twin beds/sofas in the livingroom. both beds were very comfortable. if you sleep in the livingroom i think the only slight negative is you do hear the front doors when the other residents go in or out so it may wake you up in the morning but i would usually fall back asleep and maybe some people might not hear it (it was no problem in the back backroom according to my cousin). i would still give this apartment 5 stars. the restaurants recommended by eric were excellent - chez janou and le petit marche - both within a couple blocks - but make reservations. i can't wait to go back to paris and i recommend this apartment without hesitation. you will not be disappointed. merci beaucoup eric! 27 January 2012 - 23:09:38

We stayed here the first 2 weeks of March. The apt. is so comfortable, it feels like home!--not sterile and overperfect like a hotel. The furnishings are fun and eclectic, the shower nice & hot & strong, kitchen appliances easy to use. We slept in both the bedroom and, for a few days while we had friends visiting (with permission), in the living room. All beds are good and firm (in the living room they are daybeds so a little bit narrow). So quiet in the bedroom, you won't believe you're in the middle of Paris, and it's sweet and romantic. In the living room I wore earplugs at night and that was enough to block out any minor noise from the street or hallway. My husband was on crutches during this visit, so unable to take the Metro (too many stairs!) or walk as much as we usually do; the apartment was superbly located for such a handicap, as there are two great bus lines within 2 blocks, and a handful of others just a few blocks further on rue St. Antoine. There are just a couple of steps required to enter the building. The boulangerie at the corner, Le moulin de Rosa, makes the best "pain aux raisins" I have found in 15 years of visiting France! Eric is a charming host, really welcoming and helpful. Our conversations with him are a lovely part of our memories of this visit. Thank you Eric for everything--we hope to see you again next year! 03 May 2012 - 04:24:26

A well above average apartment because it is (a) well-located on the West Bank; (b) ground floor on a quiet street; (c) somewhat larger and rather more attractive than the norm, including exposed wood beams; (d) a bedroom looking onto a congenial (though inaccessible) garden courtyard. All these advantages are enhanced by an exceptionally caring landlord who speaks excellent English. Because he lives above the apartment he is readily available and supportive, but was never intrusive. Highly recommended for a couple seeking a West Bank experience near the Place des Vosges. 28 May 2012 - 19:53:53

In August 2012 my husband and I travelled to Paris for our first time and stayed in this lovely apartment in a most convenient part of the city. From there we lived like 'locals' for a week, walking the lenght and breadth of the city to our heart's content, yet returning to a quiet and safe location each nigh. The apartment was extremely comfortable, clean and quite large for Pariesienne standards. Eric, our host was very helpful, assisting us through the renting process with emails and personal telephone calls prior to our arrival and was on-site to answer any questions and guide us through using the various appliances. He very thoughtfully stocked the kitchen with condiments and and basic provisions, making catering for ourselves very easy. He even had cool drinks in the fridge to welcome us on our arrival! We can thoroughly recommend this apartment and the people who manage it. It was a wonderful introduction to this marvelous city and very "fwench". 02 November 2012 - 04:43:48

We two grandparents, our son, and grandson stayed in this delightful apartment in December 2012, and we did not get in each other's way. Our son and grandson thought the two beds in the living room were quite comfortable, and we slept well in the bedroom. The hall and bathroom separating the living room and bedroom ensured quiet and privacy. The dining area was large enough to for us to enjoy breakfasts together, with delicious fresh pastries from the corner bakery. We admired the mixture of antique and modern decor and appreciated being on the ground floor with views of the lovely courtyard. Like other reviewers, we loved the location and the many shops and restaurants in the area. Eric was very helpful--more of a gracious host than a landlord--and his apartment is well and thoughtfully equipped. At his recommendation, we tried the nearby Petit Marche restaurant and had a wonderful dinner there. We have already recommended the apartment to friends and hope we can return there some time in the future. 27 December 2012 - 22:11:49

I traveled to Paris for the first time with my brother and two of my cousins. The four of us were very comfortable in Eric's apartment and there was plenty of room for 3 girls getting prepared for the day at the same time; which is important with all the hair product and make up that goes into that! Eric even had a flat iron on hand in the apartment, I was pleasantly surprised. I would definitely recommend and stay here again. Eric was a great host; the apartment had everything we needed. It is close to two metro stations and has a great Italian restaurant just a block away in addition to great shopping and chocolate stores. Everything we needed was within walking distance. The rental rate I thought was more than fair and Eric returned my security deposit the day after we left. This was my first VRBO experience and I am glad we chose to go this way on our trip. Thank you Eric for everything, we had a great time. 12 April 2013 - 17:31:33

What a charming apartment ! What a fascinating neighbourhood ! What an efficient owner ! We spent two wonderful weeks at this place. It was not our first time in Paris but we just discovered the perfect spot to fully enjoy this beautiful city. In this 17th century apartment you will find a unique setting : high ceilings, large windows and refined details in every room. Nothing is missing for our comfort: dishwasher, washer in the bathroom, full kitchen and Eric even thought of stocking the fridge with mineral water, orange juice and even beer. Since the best way to discover a city is on foot, it's an ideal location. You are walking distance from most major attractions. Place des Vosges is magical, surrounded by lovely cafs and art galleries. At the corner of our street there is a very good bakery, Maison de Rosa, where you can get your croissants, bread and pastries. You must try the " ficelle aux olives " and the " ficelle aux lardons ". Eric is a great host, always helpful, efficient and very reliable. We thank him for his professionalism. We are planning to come back at 4 rue du Foin and experience the parisian way of life once again. Pierre and Denis 09 May 2013 - 17:22:30

My husband and I had never been to Paris. We knew nothing about the language, the city or the sights. Well, the gods were smiling at us when we lucked into this wonderful apartment in Marais. It looks exactly like the website pictures. Spacious and CLEAN, we would highly recommend this place. The building is safe and the bedroom is on a courtyard so it is quiet at night. Our landlord, Eric was kind and gracious. He was extremely easy to deal with and was helpful in every way, from printing our boarding passes to recommending restaurants. He had even stocked our fridge with beer, bottled water, milk and juice. We found the neighborhood to be casual and fun and a perfect home base for exploring Paris. There is a delicious corner bakery and at least six bistros within a few blocks (we especially enjoyed Le Petit Marche which is less than 2 blocks). While the rest if Paris is closed on Sundays, Marais is always open and full of shops and restaurants. The apartment is within a short walk from the worlds best falafel take out place, L'As du Falafel. The St. Paul metro station is nearby and from there, you can hop on a train and see the entire city. We bought a weekly Navigo pass for 25 euros each and a phone app called Paris Metro which lets you route from destination to destination. By the second day, we felt like pros getting around town. We would walk to the bakery by the metro stop and grab our morning pastry and coffee before heading out everyday. And our daily train would take us to a certain district where we would wander the streets. Then we would jump on the metro and go somewhere totally different. Six blocks from the apartment is upper Marais, a hip area full of bistros and stores, and fun to explore after you have seen St. Paul. There is someone who speaks English anywhere you go and the French were helpful and kind. For first time visitors, our week in Paris could not have been easier or more wonderful! 22 May 2013 - 20:52:24

We stayed two weeks in April, 2014. The apartment is literally 1 block from the Place des Vosges and it still retains it's historical atmosphere. We made good use of the buses (best ones, 69, 96), and the metro (St Paul-line one which takes you to almost all the main places) which were short walks away, as are a multitude of cafs (Chez Janou, Les Bonnes Souers, Ma Bourgogne, others).grocery stores (Monoprix, G20. Naturalia), Boulangeries, and traiteurs (try the roasted chicken on the spits). The apartment was surprisingly large for the three of us with comfy beds, a small but nice kitchen (even has a dishwasher). The Courtyard is full of flowers, and it is very quiet and safe. Annie Girardot lived here (famous French actress). Best of all was our host, Eric, who made sure we were comfortable and gave us a lot of information (there are a lot of books on what to see in Paris, bus routes, etc., as well). We felt very welcomed. Stay here: you will be charmed. 25 April 2014 - 23:19:23

We stayed in the apartment for 4 days and and it was wonderful. The apartment is spacious, decorated in good taste, very clean, well equipped, and everything worked. It even came with fresh basic that make a difference when you just arrive, like coffee, tea bags, sugar, juices and milk in the fridge, oil spices, etc. It feels very welcoming to know you can make yourself a cup of coffee right as you arrive without having to go to a store first. Plenty of dishes, linens, blankets and towels await for you making the stay convenient as you don't need to wash dishes or do laundry every day. The owner, Eric, lives in the same building just above the apartment and was always available to help with operating the apartment and the equipment, and also with advice, books, maps and suggestions. We arrived late at night and he was waiting for us with a welcoming smile. We were traveling with friends whose apartment was not yet ready for them, and Eric allowed us to host them for the night at no cost. Same happened on the last day, our flight was late at night and because the apartment was not rented that day Eric allowed us to stay till the evening at no additional cost, and all with a smile and and true desire to help. Can't say enough about his warm hospitality that made a huge difference to our stay. The apartment is located about a minute away from Place des Vosges, which is a lovely and lively park with many restaurants and beautiful art galleries. It is very close to everything, and if you so desire you can even walk to most Paris attractions within 20-30 minute walk. Even though the apartment is very central it is located in a small and very quiet street. Highly recommended. 05 May 2014 - 06:59:21

All of the other glowing reviews of this lovely apartment and the congenial host Eric are spot-on. We just returned home after 10 days, and we loved every minute. It was very comfortable for three adults. Two other friends from our group stayed in a tiny hotel room nearby, at the same cost of this roomy apartment. The other two met us at the apartment each morning before we went out for our daily adventures, and each evening before we went out for dinner. There was plenty of room for the five of us to sit in the living room and enjoy a drink and a snack. Put on your comfortable walking shoes and enjoy the neighborhoods, shopping, and dining in the 3rd and 4th districts, including the areas around Centre Pompidou and Les Halles. We also walked to Notre Dame Cathedral and over to the left bank neighborhoods of 5th and 6th districts. The nearby restaurants and cafes are very good, including those on Place de Vosges. Chez Janou, about a 1-minute walk from the apartment, is outstanding. It has the BEST Chocolate Mousse in the world, I promise! They give you a giant dollop out of a big bowl, and then come around later to ask if you want more! :) 01 July 2014 - 18:39:38

This apartment met all of our expectations for a stay in Paris. It is a lovely, old apartment with the modern conveniences. The dcor is wonderful and comfortable. Eric was an exceptional host. He was waiting for us on arrival and provided a lot of information about our area in Paris. There is a booklet with all sorts of contact information, including that of a doctor, if needed. The fridge had water, wine, beer, and juice. There was coffee and a coffee maker so we were set each morning. The apartment has excellent security. We had no concerns while there. Our kitchen and bedroom overlooked the courtyard. We were within walking distance of metro, excellent shopping, and Les Vosges. We will definitely rent this apartment again if we are in Paris. Thank you to Eric for his hospitality. 07 July 2014 - 04:33:41

This apartment met all our expectations and needs - located minutes from three metro stops, close to wonderful restaurants (Cafe Janou is exceptional), bakeries, cheese, meat shops, and, of course, wine stores. It's located around the corner from Place de Vosgres. There is a fabulous food market on Thursday and Sunday - don't miss it. The apartment itself is ideal for a couple or a couple with children. Located on the first floor of a quiet street it is spotless and has a comfortable bed, sofas and ample storage. The kitchen is equipped with all you need to cook a meal or just enjoy some wine and cheese (The refrigerator was stocked with water, beer and some other essentials to get you started - a very nice touch). Eric, the manager, was always available and even brought down a different coffee pot for us from his own apartment; he's a gem. This was our first experience with an apartment in Paris and we will definitely book this property for our next visit. 22 July 2014 - 19:57:44

we have been renting in le marais for over 10 years and this is by far the nicest flat we have stayed in. it's roomy, spotlessly clean, quiet, handsomely decorated, and has a beautiful garden outside the bedroom window. eric was so attentive all the time. it's good that he lives upstairs, just in case u need him. the neighborhood is not teaming with tourists or cars and has a wonderful village feel. we have already recommended it to another friend who loved it and yet another one will try to rent it for her anniversary. a great place to stay for all the right reasons. thank u, eric ! see u in 2017 ! My family of four had a lovely time in this apartment. Fantastic location and very helpful host. The bedroom looks out onto a quiet, lush courtyard. Everything you need is in walking distance including bakery, restaurants, supermarkets, transport. The apartment was very comfortable and quiet and we will definitely book here when we return to Paris. 13 July 2015 - 00:23:27

this is the second time I've reviewed Eric's apartment , & I cannot recommend it highly enough!! It has everything you need for an extremely comfortable stay & as I have said before the most comfortable bed in Paris!!! The apartment is in the Marais which is virtually the centre of Paris , there is a great bolangerie a couple of Mtrs up the street , fabulous restaurants in close proximity , Le petite italian Chez Janou & Hugos, just to name a few & if you love a bit of shopping like I do there are gorgeous shops just around the corner. The department store BHV is just a short walk & though it's not galleries Lafayette it's still a great place for a shop. The Marais is our favourite place to stay in Paris , if need be you really don't have to leave the area , it has everything , even the Bastille markets are only a hop , skip & a jump away !! Last but not least the apartments manager Eric , there are not enough superlatives , he is a delightful man that is there to assist you ALWAYS!! Thank you once again Eric , you have again helped make our stay. We will see you again next year!! As I said at the beginning I could not recommend this apartment enough. 01 November 2015 - 09:35:31

Last time we stayed at 4 rue du Foin was two years ago, in Spring, and we were certain that we would be back. This time it was in autumn, another great season to visit Paris with all the changing colors. Place des Vosges and le Jardin du Luxembourg are beautiful this time of year. During these two weeks we had the chance to visit the museums and sites we missed the last time. Interesting outings that differ from the usual tourist attractions: Muse Marmottan, Muse des Sciences naturelles, la promenade plante and the magnificent Fondation Louis Vuitton next to the Jardin d'Acclimatation where there is a charming restaurant called La Terrasse du Jardin. Our stay at the apartment was as perfect as the last time. Eric was as helpful and generous as usual. You couldn't wish for a better landlord. The place is neat, comfortable, well equipped and what a great location. When leaving le Marais we told him " la prochaine ! " and we meant it. Pierre and Denis 23 November 2015 - 21:26:54

Paris is one of our favorite cities and we will definitely be back to 4 Rue du Foin. The location on Place des Vosges is superb. Our host, Eric, has a high standard of maintenance for the apartment and we appreciated that very much. We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation. Thank you for your hospitality. 16 May 2016 - 20:57:04
