As a child, I spent some marvelous days in a cabin like this one in Inverness. We decided to choose this property, hoping it would offer us a similar experience. It did, though we found the beds in this cabin far better than the old ones we grew up with. They're nice and some have very comfortable toppers. It's a charming little place filled with old pictures of boats, the area, family adventures, and more. The detached unit is very nicely fixed up to sleep four, the outdoor porch spacious, and the location for people wanting to walk around Inverness is perfect. I recommend this cabin for those who are looking for a more "rustic" experience and who want to enjoy Inverness in a way that it has been enjoyed by families for years. Be prepared for a super steep driveway to get down to the cabin. We'll be back! 16 July 2014 - 21:35:09

This cabin is decorated with personal photos and momentos throughout, making the experience very welcoming and homey. Interesting books, especially on local subjects are provided, as are games. It is located down a steep driveway, but a car is necessary in this area anyway. Note that the bathroom features a shower, but no bathtub. 28 August 2014 - 18:22:52

Ventured up to Inverness to attend a wedding and made a great Labor Day weekend out of it - we enjoyed the property location, escape from city life, and great proximity to Point Reyes, downtown Inverness and Stinson. Wit 2 sleeping areas, it was easy for the 5 of us to spread out - especially helpful for me to bring my dog, she enjoyed the house/yard and the natural surroundings! A great low-tech, high outdoor time weekend - would definitely rent again! 07 September 2014 - 15:20:11

We really enjoyed this cozy, casual cabin--felt right at home. The large deck was a delightful place to sit in the sunshine and eat meals. I loved the old-fashioned feel which reminded me of my grandma's old beach house, and appreciated the absence of television and wifi. Our only wish was that there were a couple of "papa bear" chairs by the fireplace-- as that would have really added to the coziness when the sun went down and the chill set in. The owners are lovely and friendly. 05 April 2015 - 21:37:21

A perfect get away! Our family enjoyed every moment of our time at the Dodge Cabin. We love being off the grid, we love the 70s feel of the cabin, and all of the personal touches. The deck was glorious and the fireplace a an essential touch. We highly recommend renting the additional cabin as well, it was nice for the younger ones to have their own space. The owners were super helpful and we felt well tended for. We will be back!!! 08 April 2015 - 15:12:17

This was the family retreat I wish had been in my family through the years! Simple and simply beautiful. Cozy family touches everywhere. Easy drive to all the area attractions. Owner was very accommodating to our last minute needs. 28 June 2015 - 18:25:11

Every year we visit Inverness for a week and this was our first time renting this charming cottage and cabin with friends from Maine. You feel like you've stepped back in time to a place that has a rich history with old pictures and great maps. We had fun playing games, sitting by the wood fire and roasting marshmallows, dozing in the hammock and best of all taking in the sun and wildlife on the expansive deck. The house is well stocked and conveniently located to the town of Inverness, beaches and the trails on Pt. Reyes. Best of all there is separate cabin where the kids loved to sleep and a grassy area where they can play catch or horseshoes. Highly recommend this place. 07 July 2015 - 05:53:07

We had a great Labor Day weekend with this charming cottage as our home base. Inverness is the perfect location for getting out and seeing all that the area has to offer, Point Reyes, Tomales Bay, Dillon Beach, et al. It was great to have a quite and private spot to come home to after fighting the holiday weekend crowds. We went out for day trips to see the sights, and came back to the cabin to cook dinner, play cards, and enjoy a nice fire. It really made me wish my family had a nice rustic home for weekend getaways. 23 September 2015 - 01:38:37

This is a great place. We rented the bunkhouse as well as the main house and both are much nicer than the pictures show - we were pleasantly surprised. Great central spot for the area. The woodpeckers in the tree were fun to listen to in the morning and evenings also. 19 October 2015 - 22:08:37

What a great rustic little homestead! Feels super remote even though you are technically surrounded by neighbors. Good for groups of friends since every bedroom has a twin bed. The house is super cozy, we had a great time building a fire, cooking dinner, and hanging out on the spacious outdoor deck. The dogs had a great time running around in the backyard as well, and the property is fenced so we didn't have to worry about them getting out. Would definitely stay again! 05 November 2015 - 20:10:39

We had a lovely stay in this home. It was just the two of us and our two small dogs, but there's definitley room for more people to stay here. The house is very clean. It has a cozy wooden interior with a kitchen equipped with everything you need to cook meals. The back yard is large and almost completely fenced in (one of my dogs is a little explorer and he could walk right under the front gate) but my other dog never even noticed that opening. The wrap around deck is wonderful to enjoy meals and relax. It is very quiet at night and we had the most deep sleep. The weather in July was cool in the mornings and sunny and warm in the afternoons. It was the perfect balance because it never got too hot. Even though this property feels so secluded, you are surrounded by neighbors and only an 11 minute drive to Point Reyes Station to load up on groceries and supplies. We enjoyed not having television or wifi. I did have minimal cell reception with Verizon, my partner had none with TMobile. Peggy was very responsive to all of my emails leading up to our stay and after. We had a wonderfully relaxing experience and look forward to staying here again. 07 July 2016 - 21:53:10

My family stayed here over Labor Day Weekend and had a wonderful time getting away from the hustle and bustle of it all. The house is in a great location - about a 20 minute walk into town and just steps from hiking trails that take you through the backwoods of Inverness. The deck is a perfect compliment to the home and gets a lot of day time sun to allow for breakfast, lunch and dinner outdoors. Our 1 year old was with us and the house was very baby friendly. All in all we had a wonderful time. 08 September 2016 - 18:20:15

This is a comfortable, cozy rustic home with a big wrap-around deck. All the amenities of a vacation home make it a very nice place for an afternoon/evening gathering, and it has room for eight people to stay over comfortably. Everyone enjoyed hanging out on the large wrap-around deck. There's a long flight of stairs from the road to the house, but cars can drive down a steep driveway to unload and deliver anyone who has trouble walking. In addition to the two bedrooms in the house, there are four beds in the sleeping cabin, two each in two areas but no door between the areas. I'd definitely come back! 19 September 2016 - 18:19:01

We spent a week at the property. The location is lovely, with the beautiful tree-covered hillside creating an atmosphere of peace and isolation. The house and the comfortable cabin provide spacious accommodations, everything is spotless and comfortable, and the large yard (with apple and pear trees) offer kids plenty of space to play. 05 August 2017 - 07:35:00

This is a great place unless you are a light sleeper or bring a dog that is disturbed by animals in the walls. Upon arrival, I discovered that the Dodges allow a possum to live in the ceiling and a fox to live in the wall of the kitchen. The noise these animals make nightly was so disturbing that I honestly had a terrible time, despite the otherwise charming house and property. I couldn't sleep with all the scurrying and chewing and sqeaking, which generally started at about 5pm, and my dog was really disturbed as well. I moved to the sleeping cabin because I could not find other accommodations in the area. This was quieter but not convenient or charming in any way. The Dodges seem like wonderful people and I loved the family photos and the sunshine but the fox, possum, and rat were extremely disturbing to me and kept me up at night. I ended my vacation early!!! 07 October 2015 - 18:07:56

My husband, myself and our 3 young boys stayed in the main cabin for 2 nights, 3 days. The grounds are pretty and the neighborhood very quiet. There is a hammock and games for the outside, which the boys loved! And games and books to read inside the cabin, also very useful! The cabin is simple and has it quirks, but nothing that is deal breaking, as long as you expect simple. There is one bathroom, 2 big bedrooms, a nice living room with chairs (no couch) and a long kitchen. The fireplace does get smokey when you try to start a fire, but the owners are aware of this and give you some tips to minimize the smoke. It helped us when we pushed the logs all the way in the back of the fireplace. Without our realizing it, we left one of our kid's stuffed animals. A few days after we left, the owner contacted us about the animal and mailed it to us, on her dime. VERY thoughtful! The location is about 30 minutes from the Pt. Reyes Lighthouse and 7 or so minutes from Tomales State Park, both worth visiting. Overall a pleasant experience. 04 September 2014 - 17:37:37

If you want to disconnect from all those electronic gadgets, this is the place. I am afraid to say how wonderful my ten days were at this rustic retreat with my family, and friends from France, because I want to have it available for my next vacation. OK no wifi, sketchy cell phone service until you get down the hill, but there is a land line for your use and it works great. Plus there are fruit trees. We ate fresh apple crisps, baked apples and pears and apple sauce with every dinner! Lots of room for outdoor games (we brought ladder toss) and corners to read. And lots of places to play board games and cards, which we did every day. The location is great too. A short walk into town, a short drive to Point Reyes, and everything else to make one find adventure and disconnect. Went horseback riding, kayaking, ate fresh oysters, and hit the notable walks and beaches. Cabin's beds great for kids, needs a bit more cushions on twin beds for adults. However, kitchen is complete, and it feels like you are living indoors and outdoors at the same time when the doors are open to the wrap around decking. Feels like a family retreat for sure! 25 September 2017 - 22:00:00

we stayed for a long weekend and it was indeed a sunny rustic family retreat. we liked that it is more of a cabin than a upscale vacation home. we loved that you can walk on side streets to inverness and to chicken ranch beach. we loved that there is NO WiFi or cell service. what a relief! we loved the decks and separate sleeping cabin. there were two great, very comfortable single beds, and two hard but comfortable foam beds. the other beds (queen and one of the singles in the main house and one of the singles in the sleeping cabin) could use an update, but if you're a flexible sleeper, or a kid, no problem. we appreciated the well stocked kitchen and most of all that it is a real home that the dodge family has graciously opened up to guests. 07 November 2017 - 00:58:00

We absolutely loved staying here. It is a family home and you can tell. Everything is cozy and well cared for. We loved firing up the wood-burning stoves in the evening, and sunning on the deck in the daytime. The dogs had a fantastic time running around the yard. We will definitely plan to come back. 26 May 2017 - 19:51:00
