About listing

We have had a love affair with Sonoma for years and are happy to call it home, every now and again anyway. We picked Birch Rd. to build our family getaway and want to share it with you. We took a the wonderful shell of an old 1940's cottage and gave it a facelift to create the most relaxing, comfortable retreat you can imagine. Our modern Sonoma cottage is fully renovated with high-end finishes and decorated with style. Whether you want to bike ride around the gorgeous countryside (bikes provided and many wineries within biking distance), walk to Sonoma Plaza for shopping/dining or lounge by the pool all day and dine al fresca, this cottage is for you. We have also thought of every detail, especially if you want to bring your kids along. We have a gorgeous pool (with automatic cover that holds the weight of a truck, so no safety issues), custom, modern wooden play set, bikes, toys and portable crib/other items for babies. Our cottage also includes built in bunk beds for 2 kids age 12 and under. Our cottage is perfect for your Sonoma get together, with a large outdoor dining table and pool lounge chairs for your friends. The cottage boasts a brand new custom kitchen, new stainless appliances and an indoor dining area. Each of the bedrooms includes a Queen size bed. In addition, we have a brand new gas fire pit for enjoying your last glass of Cab in the evening, under the cafe lights. The bathroom is stylishly renovated with a deep soaking tub and bluetooth speaker that seamlessly connects to your phone & music. Traveling across the country with children is not very easy...but this charming house sure helped!! The house was stocked with pack n plays, bouncy seats for babies, bikes, baby pool floats etc. It was so Wonderful! It is perfect for a small family. Our toddler loved the swing set and pool! It also was in a great location for us. We were attending a winery wedding just 4 miles away so this was perfect - we walked to the local market a few times during our stay. I would highly recommend this property for a family like ours (toddler and baby) or for adults looking for a great place to get away to! It is exactly like the pictures...but the yard is even bigger than you think. 05 June 2014 - 16:58:34

My wife and I were in Sonoma for three nights for our anniversary staying at this cottage. It was great, and everything we hoped for. The pool was wonderful, the yard was nicely landscaped, the grill worked great, and the fire pit was fun to hang out around at night. The kitchen was functional, and well equipped; as we cooked two of our dinners and all of our breakfasts at home. The bikes were fun for riding into town and cruising the Sonoma bike paths. This home would be great for a family, one or two couples (despite only having one bathroom), and great for outdoor entertaining. Two very small hiccups worth noting were a leak in the toilet that was fixed very quickly after we notified the owners. Also, the propane tanks for the grill and fire pit ran out; but we were reimbursed for getting them filled. We would definitely stay in this home again. 29 September 2014 - 17:57:48

Thanks so much for sharing your home. It was in the perfect location for us, and was just right for our family of 5! Our 5 year old loved the kids bunk and we even got a chance to hop in the pool before the weather turned! The house is adorable and the outdoor space is spectacular. We'll definitely be back! 29 October 2014 - 18:44:52

We loved our stay. The house is very taseful and decorated with attention to detail. The outdoor space is perfect for a family, lots of space for kids to play and for adults to relax and enjoy the yard / house. We are surely coming back. 13 January 2015 - 17:25:46

Our family of five (8 yr, 4 yr, 4 yr) really enjoyed our stay at this home. It had everything that a family could need. The house was decorated well and very thoughtful for children. Our little ones adored the outdoor playhouse, and read all the board books and dollhouses/farmhouses provided. We picked the house for the pool and backyard (we didn't use the grill or firepit, but loved the idea of them). The pool was quite warm and our children enjoyed swimming. It was a block from Train Town (although you did need to cross some major roads to get there) and had a little market right on the corner. It was great, and we will definitely return! 10 August 2015 - 18:52:08

Good facilities, very clean, the pool was beautiful! Would be back in a heartbeat for the pool and the charming and colourful characters of Sonoma. Only thing that could do with a look at s the shower pressure! 21 August 2015 - 14:37:17

What a lovely place to make us feel right at home in the wine country. The thoughtful and creative furnishings were inspiring and the perfect outdoor space allowed us to take full advantage of the warm weather and views. Our two little boys loved the play structure, pool and lawn and the play room was an added bonus too. Great setup for families with young kids! We enjoyed a walk to Train Town and some delicious local restaurants, all so easy from this central location. We look forward to visiting again! 04 September 2015 - 00:18:50

My family and I had a terrific stay at the Sonoma cottage. We loved the outdoor living space and how close the cottage was to downtown. The neighborhood was very quiet and the kitchen had everything we needed and more. We would enjoy staying at the Sonoma cottage again in the future. 15 September 2015 - 14:14:46

We thoroughly enjoyed our time here! The house is charming, well-decorated and the backyard is so fun with the pool and fire pit. It is conveniently located to Sonoma...we will be back!!! 15 September 2015 - 22:39:35

Pictures exactly as it appeared when we arrived- back yard bigger than pics. Everything like new. Impeccably decorated, very, very thoughtful design. I'm not normally one to do this, but took pictures of everything before we junked it all up with our luggage- it is a page out of a design magazine (and I'm very very picky!). Queen bedrooms are small, but what do you need in them really besides beds? Fire pit, pool and gorgeous deck were the icing on the cake. It was great to have a charming, cozy cottage to come home to instead of a impersonal hotel room. Was FABULOUS for my 2 year old- pack and play, huge bedroom, lots of place to roam, pool cover so I wasn't freaking out with him in the backyard (and a washer and dryer to do laundry!). Owner was very responsive and tried to navigate a cable issue. Cottage close to square, but still need a car. Would definitely recommend to others traveling to Sonoma! Not handicap accessible- small step to get onto the property. 22 September 2015 - 13:54:13

Great time in Sonoma and ideally located if you are planning to do some wineries in Napa as well. 27 September 2015 - 16:57:49
  12. Perfect for my 21st birthday trip. Stayed her with my parents and two best friends and we had plenty of space. Yard was better than the pictures showed with fun lights to have on in the evening. They maximized the inside space and the house was decorated so well. I will definitely be taking their design ideas! This is a perfect location to everything in the area and is way better than a crammed hotel room. On top of everything that the owners had everything written out for us including their favorite places in the area. We also had a small issue figuring out something and the owners promptly responded. Definitely recommend to others and will stay here on my next visit! 30 September 2015 - 02:26:54

This is an overdue 5++ STAR review of this well appointed and well thought out home in Sonoma. We stayed in this home back in November 2015 and haven't really taken the time to write a review since our experience is well reflected in so many 5 Star reviews that have been left. What more could we add ? I returned to the rental page this morning to plan our Fall weekend trip and see now that there is something for us to add. We'd like to voice here that there is absolutely NO security issues or concerns with the location or property. Having visited Sonoma for over 20+ years, the street (road), neighborhood, and nearby homes of this property were as expected. Some homes are newly remodeled, reflecting recent ownership, while others were in their original condition occupied by long time residents. The property is not in a gated community nor is it a new development. It's located on a quiet street, near town, and mainly occupied by local residents. We were two women in our 40s traveling with a 5 year old. We did not feel unsafe at any point in our stay. We recommend this property highly, it is clean, safe and beautiful. The property is as described in the rental description and pictures. No surprises. The owner was professional and friendly, access to the property was straightforward. We are 3+ times a year vacation home renters and, sadly, we can't say that every rental we've experienced is 5 Stars. This property exceeds 5 Stars. We hope this belated review is helpful to potential renters who might have concerns about the location. We recommend it without hesitation. Our family will be returning at some point this year. 08 May 2016 - 21:47:03

We had a wonderful time in this beautifully appointed home. My husband commented, "This woman has great taste!" The linens, beds, kitchen, dining areas were all comfortable and nice to spend time together. Unfortunately, we had two days of rain, so no swimming but the back yard is great! And we did have a chance to use the nice fire pit. The road back to the house was water filled with potholes, but that was mostly due to the rain, I would imagine. Only suggestion I would make on the interior would be another bathroom...the location was great, easy walk downtown and for groceries. 28 November 2016 - 19:02:13

We had a free weekend and decided last minute to head to Sonoma for a weekend getaway and the Sonoma Cottage was perfect! Plenty of space and quick access to downtown, wineries and breweries (Sonoma Springs Brewery is a must see - awesome beer!) Can't wait to make another weekend trip - thanks so much! 13 November 2017 - 15:42:00

We stayed for four nights in September and loved the home. Cool little place that felt bigger and had so many cool features. We had a bunch of places we wanted to see but enjoyed the home so much that we found ourselves rushing back home to chill. Not really walkable to the square but only a couple minute drive. Awesome backyard, pool and kitchen that we didn't want to leave anyway. Close to great restaurants, tasting rooms , great A/C, fast wifi, amazon firestick and very clean. Would stay again in a minute. Traveled with wife and six month old baby and they had some baby stuff. Good time. Very nice owner. 16 November 2017 - 23:28:00

They felt the location was a little off the beaten path though not that far from the square by car. 05 October 2017 - 20:13:00

Pros: Conveniently located. Great bicycle paths in the area. House is cleaned well. Nice pool. Cons: Hard to locate. GPS indicated to stop too early. Go straight and around the bend after you turn onto Birch Rd. Oven not working properly. Fire pit and barbeque need cleaning to be usable. 13 August 2017 - 17:57:00

Clean, well done and very kid friendly setup. The backyard is perfect for relaxing with the heated pool, fire pit, grill and dining table. It's walkable to a few different restaurants, convenience stores and Train Town. A longer walk (30 mins) to Sonoma Square but easy to uber around and $25 to get to Napa. It does sit on a little lane that when it rains gets puddles and is muddy, so just be prepared, but you can hear the roosters when you walk around in the morning. And finally, Jill has been attentive and helpful in every way. We would certainly come back. 13 January 2018 - 15:00:00

Nice clean refurbished cottage. The bedrooms are very small with limited room for luggage. Tastefully decorated and well appointed with everything required in the kitchen. Attractive outside entertaining area with BBQ pool and fire pit. Major draw back was one very small bathroom with the toilet within. Given the nightly tariff is high, value for money is below par. Access to the property is off a narrow potholed laneway and difficult to spot - not signposted well on the outskirts of town. 13 September 2017 - 19:59:00
