About listing

Nestled down a little country dirt lane, our cottage named after William Wordsworth's own Dove Cottage, is a calming sanctuary in the middle of the Wine Country, close to Sonoma Plaza. It is a completely private residence with it's own solar-heated pool, large private deck for entertaining, dining, and relaxing. It has a lush, wrap-around garden, and a modern, clean, minimal interior space. It is perfectly located close to Sonoma Square for the best in fine dining and access to some of the best wineries in the world. Our cottage is perfect for a couple's romantic weekend away, or a fun weekend for a small family with kids enjoying the pool (with automatic cover- so very safe) and Traintown just around the corner. *We do not typically heat the pool December- February due to the cold temperatures, it is almost impossible to get the pool warm enough to enjoy. Besides being a beautiful little getaway, we have also put thought into the details: Dove Cottage has air-conditioning/heating and features a beautiful custom luxury kitchen. It has two Sony HD TV's with complimentary Netflix and Cable, Full Lightening speed Wi-fi, and unique European design details such as a sliding custom barn-door and two Dutch-style doors. And the back master suite has french doors that lead out to your private deck to enjoy the evening sunsets or the fresh morning air. Our cottage is close enough to the Square for easy access and proximity yet has a wonderful rural setting that allows you to simultaneously feel away from it all. We have tried to create a space that we love to be in as a family, or as a romantic getaway, and we have put a lot of thought into the design and flow, and we hope that you will love it, and that it will make your time in this beautiful part of the world even more enjoyable and memorable.

  1. The cottage was beautiful and easily accessible and the host made everything go very smoothly. The vicinity to downtown Sonoma is great and trips to wineries around Napa is an easy drive away. The home was clean and tastefully updated, the beds were comfortable and having a pool was a big plus. The home guide included good local recommendations for restaurants and wineries in the area as well as detailed instructions for everything on the property. I would definitely stay here again. While we had two married couples stay here for the weekend I can see it is a very kid friendly home as well, so if you have young ones I would definitely recommend this property. The one minor thing to note is that the short driveway road is gravel and can be a bit bumpy so if you have a very low car/sports car you may scrape the bottom as we did in an Uber to the wineries, just something to be aware of. 18 September 2017 - 18:13:00

When we walked through the door I knew we were in for a relaxing time. The house is beautifully decorated with everything you could need on vacation. For a two bedroom there is plenty of sleeping for everyone. The backyard is divine and the pool is a huge bonus in the hot Sonoma sun. You almost don't need to leave. But if you do decide to venture out, downtown Sonoma is extremely close and there are a ton of yummy restaurants and fun shops to check out. This is a perfect place to stay in Sonoma. Can't wait to go back. 17 July 2014 - 18:03:59

We spent a fantastic weekend at the cottage. The house is decorated beautifully and the location is amazing. The owners provided tons of helpful information and made the check-in/check-out process a breeze. We will be back for sure. 06 August 2014 - 19:38:58

Having never rented a house before--and being kind of a hotel snob--I wasn't sure what to expect, especially since we would be Sarah and Charlie's first renters. But our experience at Dove Cottage exceeded our possible expectations. The house is so beautifully appointed and with all the mod cons (Nest thermostat, great washer dryer, deep tub, dishwasher). It was immaculately clean, very roomy for our family of three and incredibly private--with attractive high fences and trees blocking views from the neighbors to the left and right. We loved the french doors from the bedroom, which we opened up to the view of the pool (amazing) and Sonoma's rolling hills and wineries (is this a dream?!). Also the house and its owners are incredibly kid friendly--their leaving a like-new pack and play and high chair at the house made traveling cross country with an 18 month old so much easier. It doesn't hurt that the house is 5 minutes' drive from Safeway and Whole Foods, 5 minutes drive from Sonoma Square, 5 mins walk from a really top notch spa at the Rennaissance Hotel, and 5 minutes walk from Train Town which is kind of corny-awesome in a 1950s theme park kind of way. Best of all the owners were incredibly nice to deal with, responsive and accommodating. We can't wait to come back! 06 August 2014 - 21:52:33

We absolutely enjoyed our stay at Dove Cottage. It's clear that the owners have put a lot of work and attention to detail into every aspect of this property to give it a comfortable and modern feel. The location is a few minutes from Sonoma square, the Sonoma Valley wineries and only a short 20 minute drive to Napa. This is a great base location if youre looking to spend time in both Sonoma and Napa Valley. Inside, the rooms are clean and spacious, the kitchen is fully stocked with all the amenities and the bedrooms are very accommodating. The well maintained backyard with a pool, deck, privacy fence and trees allowed us to enjoy our late afternoons and evenings relaxing outdoors in total seclusion. The owners, Sarah and Charlie, were pleasant and easy to deal with. We have recommended this property to our friends and we would definitely choose to stay here again. 12 August 2014 - 02:40:44

Our family of 4 just had a fantastic weekend at Dove Cottage. The place is just like the pictures...clean, modern, tasteful, cozy. The rooms were larger than expected and the nest room temperature control may have been the coolest device yet. Corresponding with the owner was easy. Everything went well except on the last day when the cleaner showed up unexpectedly early. Although we were told we could check out later that day and relayed this to the house cleaner, he was adamant and left us hurriedly and stressfully leaving our otherwise relaxing vacation. I had to email immediately one of the owner on this hiccup and thankfully Sarah (the owner) promptly replied back and was apologetic. Overall, a nice stay in a wonderful cottage minus the abrupt departure. 19 August 2014 - 08:14:57

A well kept, beautiful home, well stocked kitchen, well-kept pool perfect for a romantic getaway or trip with kids. We brought our 1-year old and very much appreciated the pack-and-play crib, high chair, books, and toys that were available for us to use! 29 September 2014 - 18:39:52

Everything was fabulous at the cottage!!! Just as described. I only wish we'd had more time to hang out. Accommodations for infant were great! Only thing sort of missing was coffee maker, but Sarah was very responsive helping me find the press pot. Cottage combined with Community Diner for breakfast made a stellar w/e in Sonoma. 16 October 2014 - 00:50:18

I stayed in this house for a few days with my sisters and it was so wonderful! The house is SO beautifully decorated and comfortable! The location is perfect and so convenient to get to the grocery stores, square, wineries, etc. The owners could not be nicer and were so responsive to my questions. I highly recommend staying here!! 28 October 2014 - 16:04:09

I stayed at Dove Cottage for a weekend and it was amazing! Sarah and Charlie were so flexible and accommodating and really made our stay great with their extra touches like their home guide, games available to play, and all of the cookware in their home. The location is great, very close to downtown Sonoma as well as many vineyards and wineries. The cottage is very cozy and the view of the sunrise in the master bedroom is beautiful. It was a great vacation and was just what I needed. I will definitely be coming back! 10 December 2014 - 18:54:43

I am a picky person when it comes to hotels/rentals and this did not disappoint. My boyfriend and I stayed at the cottage for a few days and did not want to leave! The house is beautifully equipped, with french doors in the master opening out to the back deck and pool. It is awesome for a romantic getaway or if you have kids, a large bedroom separate for them as well. Nice outdoor dining table under a tree for entertaining, everything is well equipped and the location cannot be beat. I have experienced Sonoma before but not where it is walkable to downtown... it is really a lovely way to really experience Sonoma and all the amazing restaurants, shops breweries, wineries, etc. that it has to offer. Sarah and Charlie were wonderful and very communicative with recommendations on where to eat, what to do, etc. Would stay here again in a heartbeat! Highly recommend. 10 December 2014 - 18:42:39

This place was exactly as advertised if not better. It was an adorable cottage off of the main street into Sonoma Square. There are so many stores/restaurants/tasting rooms within a mile - very easy walk. The kitchen is beautiful and all of the furniture is perfect. It was a great place to stay and we felt like we were at home. I definitely recommend this property and will stay here again. 02 February 2015 - 18:56:27

We stayed at Dove cottage over a long weekend, and we had a wonderful time! Our interactions with Sarah were extremely positive. For starters, she was flexible about the check in and check out times which we greatly appreciated since we had our two year old's nap schedule to consider (and not having to rush out at check out was a huge bonus!). Since our booking was last minute, she also gave us a deal, and that was also appreciated as some other properties in the same neighborhood did not. The location was perfect for us - under an hour drive from our home in San Francisco, and across the street from Train Town (which our son loved!). Walking to train town was amazing! Also, we were 4 minutes to a couple of wineries and under 10 minutes drive to Sonoma plaza. There was also a great market right next to Dove Cottage (3 minute walk) that had delicious sandwiches! The house was tastefully decorated, and was uncluttered without lacking any essentials. Sarah let us use her pack'n'play which was great as we didnt have to lug ours. There were some toys and books for our son to explore. Our bedroom overlooked the pool and backyard and that was gorgeous. We were lucky and had great weather so we could enjoy the back yard and the pool to the fullest. We had a great time, and are looking forward to going back! 27 March 2015 - 20:55:49

The house was absolutely perfect. Everything was super clean, felt brand new, great style and comfort. The neighborhood is peaceful and walking distance to town which made it easy for us to explore. I'd highlight recommend staying in the cottage for a weekend getaway. Everything you could possibly need is included in the house- laundry, etc. 06 June 2015 - 13:35:48

We had a wonderful stay at the Dove Cottage! The cottage is beautiful! The cottage is perfect for families and romantic getaways. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need and the pool and backyard is very private and beautiful. Perfect location as it is very close to the Sonoma square and wineries. We will definitely stay at Dove cottage when we visit Sonoma again. Thank you Sarah and Charlie! 27 October 2015 - 14:49:16

We stayed in this little cottage this past weekend. It is sufficient for 4 people. The house is cute but definitely has a strange appointment of detail. The bathroom is definitely a one person room. There is only one small mirror on the back wall (none over the sink), so it isn't easy if you are all trying to get ready and put make up on, do hair etc. As well, there is no place to hang towels, except the one hook for a hand towel. The home wasn't totally clean when we arrived: dirty fridge and smegma on the kitchen counter, as well as dirty hand towels in kitchen and bath and the number of options for replacing those was very slim. The coffee maker was full of old moldy grounds and had old coffee in the reservoir. The kitchen is not well appointed so preparing and serving food is a challenge. As well, you can see the small fridge in the picture. There is no ice available for this house. (When we got there, the freezer was completely frosted over.) You will need a cooler and bags of ice from the store (major hassle). All the pillows and comforters are feather/down, so plan ahead if you are allergic like me. Every drawer in the rooms is filled with stuff so plan to live out of your suitcase. There was a closet in the second bedroom, the one behind the rolling barn door. Unfortunately, they store all of their laundry supplies in the only spot to hang things, and don't provide any hangers anyway. Most of the towels are old and mildewed, although they did provide a newer set of 4 bath towels and one hand towel for bathing. There is air conditioning that worked really well after we took out the completely clogged air filter in the return. HOWEVER, the yards are just perfect. Relaxing pool and picnic table on deck. The trees and setting are just lovely. It is not walking distance to the square, unless you are up for a good hike. But it is in a fairly convenient location. The bedrooms are nice size and the master has French doors that open to the beautiful backyard and pool. For the money though, I probably wouldn't book this again unless the owners step up the facility. 27 June 2017 - 23:33:00

This is a very charming cottage that is private enough to feel secluded yet close enough to the downtown area that you can walk to restaurants and shops. The very cozy bedroom opens up to a back deck and wonderful heated pool. We had a wonderful time! 26 September 2017 - 15:59:00

We booked this adorable cottage for a family trip up to Sonoma. Such a cute place with an updated farm house type vibe. Short drive to the square and lots of restaurants nearby. We had our 1 year old with us and found the place to be super kid friendly. Upon check in I noticed that the floors hadnt really been cleaned and there were dirty towels left hanging in the bathroom. After contacting the owner she explained there had been a mixup with previous renters that unfortunately left the cleaners with little time- she was extremely apologetic and was kind enough to compensate us for the oversight. My only other issue was the water pressure in the shower, it felt like a light sprinkle, not enough force to wash my hair. Overall we really enjoyed our stay, despite the cleaning oversight, you can tell a lot of thought and detail went into making this place feel like a home. We hope to visit again in the warmer months to take advantage of the gorgeous patio and outdoor pool! 30 January 2018 - 04:32:00

My wife and I had a fantastic time. The cottage is well decorated. The bed was comfortable. We loved sipping coffee and reading on the back deck in the morning. The surroundings were pretty and quiet. Most important to us, though, was how accommodating and responsive Sarah was. Our visit was in question due to the wildfires, and Sarah offered to work with us in a number of ways in case we couldn't make it out. She was also very responsive whenever we had any questions. We would definitely consider staying again if it's available! 28 October 2017 - 02:51:00
