Loved it. Our apartment was full of charm. It was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. The building manager was there to meet us when we arrived and was very gracious. He suggested places to go and grocery stores and great bakeries. We love jazz and there was no shortage of great music. Our location was very convenient to the uptown express train or cross town to Union Square. We also enjoyed off Broadway theater and took in some fun comedy at the Comedy Cellar that was recommended to us. They also had great food and drink. We loved to stroll around and go into the many shops that were close by. We had a wonderful stay and hope to come back soon. We have already recommended it to our friends. 20 December 2016 - 03:51:17

We arrived late in the evening after dark and so didnt notice until the next day how dirty and shabby the apartment was. The duvet smelt dirty, the dishes in the cupboard were covered in dust & dirt, the microwave was disgusting and had what looked like mouse droppings on top and the bathroom had hairs (!) on the floor. The wardrobe in the hallway had a shelf which was absolutely filthy. The floor of the apartment was dirty. We immediately contacted both the agent and the owners who were in the building (Carl & Linda). While Carl was reasonable and seemed keen to sort out the problems, Linda was the opposite. While I was talking to Carl, she started shouting at my wife. Her tone was extremely unpleasant and she said things like why would anyone want to use the shelf in the wardrobe and I cant be expected to clean that shelf. She then started banging the chest of drawers shouting at my wife saying that is where clothes should be stored. I asked Carl to remove this person from the apartment and eventually she left. We cleaned the apartment ourselves and continued our trip as we had paid them the previous evening. We raised this issue with the agent who ignored our complaint. We also asked for a part refund to compensate for the distress and the fact we had to clean the apartment. This was ignored. Our only bad experience with Homeaway who we use all the time and have found it to be usually excellent. Do not stay here. 28 April 2016 - 16:32:20

We stayed at this apartment last May And I just regret not sending a review before now. The apartment was terrible , Far from charming as it states in the advert ,You have to walk up four flights of dusty rickety dangerous stairs into a grotty dated apartment with windows that won't shut properly the air con system by the window had plastic round it I presume to stop the draughts or rain, There was a hole in the floor board by the bedroom door. A few weeks before we were due to arrive the calendar had been changed wiping over our booking and the owner would not respond to any worried emails we sent, We ended up contacting VRBO and they got in touch with the owner. As for the area, it was really good plenty of restaurants and easy to get to places for sight seeing, the Hudson river at the bottom of the street was nice to walk along, Couldn't fault anything else 27 January 2016 - 18:55:45

Before writing a negative review, I sent my concerns to the owner who did not respond. My husband and I spent one month in this apartment which is in fact in a great location and has a comfortable bed. That is where the facts end and we are amazed that this property did not have one critical review. The fourth floor apartment is not the size advertised and you must climb four steep and unstable flights of stairs with wobbly railings that have not been repaired or dusted for what looked like years. Exposed nails add to the safety issues that pervade this property. We were also not told that construction was going on next door and that was disturbing for one month. It was the misrepresentation of the apartment that was most frustrating and I was in a situation where I could not find another place and move. The apartment was not clean and is run down. The bathroom, living room and bedroom had the detritus of other renters under beds, chairs and tables. We immediately bought cleaning supplies and did our own cleanup. There is no discernible fire exit from the fourth floor and we figured a way to get out if necessary but it is not obvious. During rainy weather, the skylight in the bathroom leaks leaving a wet, slippery floor. There is a noise in the floor to ceiling pipe in the bathroom that has a sound that varies between a nest of wasps and a scratching critter. You are not allowed to mess with the heat and must open and close windows to adjust the temperature. There is a hole in the floor near some pipes that looks rotted and the kitchen appliances are old and funky. Don't be fooled by the street scene photos. There were many other deficits we sent to the owners because we were suggesting that some minor upgrading in this small space would make it the charming, clean and safe rental they describe. While they claim no smoking, we smelled cigarettes frequently and worried given the condition of the building. If being near celebrities is important to you, this is a popular area and there are in fact many shops, restaurants, etc. It was fun to get to know that area of New York more intimately. We go every year and have rented VRBO properties in NY and in other places. We have never been disappointed until now. I would suggest that VRBO revisit this listing and ask the owner to share the list I sent her suggesting improvements. I would not recommend this property. 11 January 2016 - 18:36:50

The recent events on the east coast brought back memories of our wonderful stay in unit 1R. We regret not doing a review at the time. Carl & Linda met us at the unit the night we arrived & made sure we had all we needed. They were always available to help us. The first floor garden studio was a delight & we felt right home. Great location. We hope everyone is safe. 02 November 2012 - 17:51:07

This one bedroom was lovely, full of character, on a very lively but quiet street in the West Village it was full of handy shops and markets and restaurants and a short nice walk to the subway. It was an excellent choice!-The property manager was very friendly and accommodating when meeting us on arrival to show us through the apartment, and provided bus and subway maps and other relevant information and was also very accommodating about the departure time when we checked out. The location is great only 2 blocks from the Magnolia Bakery and a short walk in either direction to two different subway stations. The apartment was also clean and well supplied and the laundry next door allows you to use their washing machines and dryers in a self- service arrangement for a minimal fee at certain times of the day this is a blessing if you are in NYC for more than a week. 12 December 2014 - 15:29:05

My nephew and I came in April of 2015. We had a fabulous time and thoroughly enjoyed the accommodations and easy acess to all the activities New York has to offer. We were met at the crack of dawn by the owner himself and immediately felt welcomed and taken care of. Not only did he go out of his way to meet us 3 hours before the normal check in time he answered all of our questions and made a speedy departure so we could rest up after our flight from the west coast. The apartment is located in a great walking area with several restaurants and grocery stores for convienent shopping for those neccesities needed for our stay. I can't say enough about how happy we were to have found such a great place to stay. I would also like to say how much I enjoyed communicating with the manager who was very helpful and made the booking process seamless. 28 July 2015 - 02:20:07

We just wanted to let you know that the apartment on West 11th St. was comfortable and very accessible to other parts of the city. We loved being right in the heart of the village. The manager, Carl, was very helpful about things to do and was available for anything we needed at a moments notice. Our trip was great. 28 January 2016 - 01:57:02

We were very pleased with the apartment in the West Village. It had everything we needed and the neighborhood was very exciting. New York City is filled with endless possibilities of places to eat and things to do but we adored the Village which has a special flavor of its own. Our vacation was unforgettable. 28 January 2016 - 19:38:52

We rented the West 11th Street flat for the month of February 2015. We enjoyed our accommodation, location and our entire vacation was very special. Carl and the owner were very accessible and helpful. We must come back again. The quality of jazz was superb and the neighborhood in general was a lot of fun. There were many great places to dine and we had what seemed like an endless supply to choose from. We even caught a show in Times Square. 11 February 2016 - 14:28:22

I have been staying in the West Village one bedroom since February first and will be staying until the end of the month. In my opinion it is perfect for my needs. The apartment is comfortable, well equipped and I am very happy there is a laundry next door. The building manager is a great guy, lovely Englishman who has been very attentive if I need anything. I also love the location. The WV is my favorite spot in the City. I will definitely return. Jim J. 18 February 2016 - 18:26:08

Our stay at the W. 11th St one bedroom in March was very enjoyable. We love the cozy, residential feeling of the West Village and in our opinion it is the best part of the City. The apartment was clean and well equipped. This location was not only convenient but we are always thrilled with all there is to do such as countless cafes, bakeries, restaurants, jazz spots, off Broadway theaters and galleries. Thank you for your recommendation to go to the Comedy Cellar. It was so much fun. We will definitely be back again. Kind Regards Lydia DC 19 March 2016 - 22:05:01

This is a a great little gem in a wonderful part of the West Village. I stayed here for two months and found that the apartment had everything I needed. The bed was comfortable with a mattress topper, and I love the rain fall shower head in the bathroom. The owner and caretaker are very helpful and responsive. 09 May 2016 - 21:05:39

This was one of many times that we have stayed in this lovely apartment. We always feel at home and find it warm and comfortable. It has become our home away from home. The bed is very comfortable and we enjoy our morning coffee and pastries that we get from the wonderful Magnolia Bakery that is very close by. We adore the neighborhood that is welcoming and cozy but also offers a huge variety of places to eat, great, music and theater. We love the The Whitney Museum which is close by. Its an easy walk to the Chelsea Market which has amazing food. It is very easy to get around the city from this spot. We must say that the Village is our favorite place in the city and we look forward to staying here again next year. 01 January 2017 - 21:47:46

We found this the perfect location for our visit to NYC. We had stayed in Midtown before and found this to be accessible to all the sites via subway and bus yet also within a lively community for food, shopping, etc. I would remind people that it is essentially a 4 story walk up but that it is quaint and so "Old New York." I loved it. 05 January 2015 - 18:13:28
