About listing

LIVING ON A HOUSEBOAT Experience a unique way of life, the freedom of your own apartment, privacy and independence, the typical Amsterdam charm of living on the water. Fall asleep at night to the gentle rocking of the boat, wake up the next morning to the sound of ducks and swans swimming past. The boat is perfectly located on a small canal right between the old city centre and trendy neighbourhood ‘De Pijp’ in Amsterdam. Just around the corner from the boat is the river Amstel, the river the city took its name from. THE BOAT Recently the houseboat was completely renovated and modernised. It measures a total of 70 m2, has an elegant modern design, luxurious with some antique touches. It has large windows all around, it is a very bright place, like a bungalow on the water. It has a spacious living room with a fully fitted kitchen, two double bedrooms with queen sized (box spring) beds and a private sink/shower each. And maybe best of all, right on the water there’s a nice outside terrace from which to enjoy the ships passing by or watch the sunset over the water. The boat is ideally located for sunshine all day long, from a balcony breakfast to a sunset dinner. FACILITIES Modern kitchen with fridge/freezer, oven/microwave, dishwasher, toaster, coffee machine. Central heating in all rooms. Flatscreen TV, DVD player, soundsystem, wifi/highspeed internet. Two Bathrooms with private shower/sink, hairdryer. Separate toilet. Safety deposit box. Washing machine and dryer. Towels and linen (Egyptian cotton) provided. LOCATION This boat is located on the edge of the canal ring area, the 17th century historical center of Amsterdam (UNESCO World Heritage Listing). This is the area into which you can endlessly wander, discovering historical gabled houses and beautiful hidden courtyards. Cutting all the way through the canal ring is the Utrechtsestraat, a cozy and classy shopping street with great boutiques and a number of excellent bars and restaurants. To the south the boat edges on ‘De Pijp’, formerly a 19th century working class area but with a recent influx of students and artists this area is often nicknamed the Dutch Quartier Latin with endless shopping, numerous bars and dozens of great restaurants. Cutting right through this area is the Albert Cuyp Market, Amsterdam’s largest open-air food market. Public transportation is just a few steps away and takes you in a few minutes to the Museum area (Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum) or across all canals all the way to Central Station. We enjoyed our stay on the canal boat. It is in a good location for walking to the main sites or taking the tram. There is a small gorcery store near by which was more than adequate for the amount of cooking we did during our stay. We enjoyed being on the canal and having the tourists on the tour boats take our pictures, as if we were locals. 24 July 2017 - 21:16:00

Lovely to stay here for 4 days Clean , modern , all the kitchen essential were there which is very nice of the owner , one negative thing is the dinning table with very tall chairs not easy to use . Other than that Amazing house boat 09 August 2017 - 15:17:00

We loved our stay in the canal house and felt like a local. The accommodations were very nice and updated. The deck was a nice place to relax with a glass of wine in the evening while watching all the sightseeing boats drive by. The location was very convenient and within walking distance to many nice restaurants and a supermarket. I would highly recommend the accommodations and the overall experience. 27 July 2017 - 15:30:00

After my two grandchildren and I spent four nights on this spacious and comfortable houseboat, it's hard to imagine wanting to experience Amsterdam any other way. The kids loved living on the canal, feeding the ducks, watching the tour boat traffic and hearing the water gently lapping against the sides at bedtime. The houseboat is close to tram stops, restaurants and grocery stores and is beautifully furnished and maintained. Highly recommended! 31 July 2017 - 17:00:00

Such a great choice! Surprised my hubby and son and they were happy! We were welcomed with a bottle of wine to start. Love the patio where we could see boats pass by and wave to the passengers. Ducks and swans would swim up to the patio! Love the Spanish restaurant nearby called Pata Negra. Houseboat is nearby all the attractions and if need be there are the teams and buses nearby. Wifi is great! My son loved that! All in all it was a wonderful experience! Thank you fir allowing us to enjoy your houseboat! 03 August 2017 - 20:50:00

We have been to Amsterdam many times and have wanted to stay on a house boat. This property definitely fulfilled that bucket list item. Carolien, the caretaker, was very helpful showed us where to shop and how to operate all the appliances, and even arranged a 4am taxi to Schipol the day of our departure. The house boat is roomy and equipped with everything from shopping bags and umbrellas to a hair dryer and wifi. The bed was wonderful, and the area becomes surprisingly quiet after dark, making for a very good night's sleep. The canal-side deck was a joy--swans and Eurasian coots looking for handouts, flocks of feral parakeets flying overhead, the parade of canal boats and bicycles were all very entertaining. We can hardly wait to return! Thanks very much! 08 September 2017 - 14:44:00

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay on the houseboat! We felt like we were part of Amsterdam, not just visiting. The houseboat was spotlessly clean, very well outfitted with plenty of cooking implements, towels etc, and deceptively roomy - plenty of room for 4 adults to comfortably stay. All our correspondence was promptly answered, and Carolien did a fantastic job in warmly welcoming us, giving handy hints about local supermarkets etc. Would definitely recommend! 22 September 2017 - 20:15:00

What a great experience to see Amsterdam! Walking distance from several attractions or to the Metro station that can take you to Central. We purchased passes that made the stay perfect. Would stay here again! 11 October 2017 - 13:38:00

I am not one to casually throw around superlatives, but in this case it is appropriate and deserved. The houseboat is superb, the location is perfect, the communication with the owner was easy and attentive, and the assistance we received from the manager, Carolien, upon arrival was above and beyond! The houseboat is fantastic. It is very tastefully decorated, stylish, comfortable bedrooms, all the amenities, a great deck on the water, and quiet street. It was beyond our expectations, which is rare. My friend and I both felt the location was ideal. Outside of the main city center (which we did walk to, a good hike, but our least favorite area during our stay - very touristy, crowded, and not much of interest for us) the houseboat is very near great museums, shops, the outdoor market, fabulous restaurants, pubs, cafes, and parks. Our favorite moments were walking streets like Utrechtsestraat, which is lined with unique shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs. People were friendly, helpful and patient. We had a wonderful time in Amsterdam and a big part of it was the houseboat and the area. It is such a unique place to stay and blows any hotel or apartment we stayed in other cities on our trip away. On top of all that, on arrival I left my mobile phone in a taxi and only thanks to Carolien's efforts and tenacity with the taxi company was I able to get it back!! We highly recommend a stay on this houseboat!! 07 July 2012 - 19:09:41

We had such a great time in Amsterdam! The houseboat was such a treat...so nice, comfortable and so much fun! The location was excellent. Everything was within walking distance, Rembrant Plaza, museams, markets etc. When we arrived (early morning from USA) there was coffee and cream and nice bottle of wine, cheese and crackers for that evening. Carolien was a gracious hostess and gave us the info we needed to help make our trip a success. My thanks to her and the owner. We will definitely be back on our next trip there! 01 October 2013 - 21:10:04

We loved the houseboat. It was convenient to all the major sites in Amsterdam. We enjoyed the little deck for coffee in the morning and a glass of wine in the evening. Carolien was very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. The floor plan was great for two couples. The separate living area was wonderful as we all had different degrees of jet lag! 03 June 2015 - 21:28:13

Four of us spent a wonderful four days on the houseboat. It is extremely well designed and comfortable in every way. All the big windows and the patio made it possible to enjoy the canal to the fullest. The location is great with two important tram stops just a couple blocks away and with wonderful places in easy walking distance. It was a treat to live like a native. Rocking was minimal and we slept soundly. Booking was easy and Carolein made checking in a breeze. We would go back tomorrow if we could. 15 September 2015 - 03:14:52

Loved the location of this houseboat and very much enjoyed our stay. There are convenient tram and metro stops nearby and the layout was perfect for two people. The patio area is large enough to enjoy coffee or wine. Both the owner and manager were extremely easy to work with, I highly recommend. 22 June 2016 - 20:04:58

Perfect ending to a Viking Cruise down the Rhine. Houseboat is perfectly located within walking distance to all the must do stops in town - and direct access to the Central Station for out of town excursions. Accommodations within the houseboat quite roomy and very window lit - Using the Digital Concierge App provided by the owner made the directions easy to get to along with most of the good restaurants around. Having the supermaket a block away another plus. And, the hospitality offered by Carolein with quick response to any questions superb. Highly recommended 25 June 2016 - 11:01:56

We were two couples travelling together. Our stay on the houseboat was wonderful. The boat was well equipped and the beds comfortable. It was fun to sit on the deck and watch the other boats on the canal. The location was convenient to grocery stores, restaurants, and public transportation. Carolien, the manager, greeted us on arrival, gave us an excellent overview to the boat and surrounding area, and arranged seamless taxi return to the airport. One thing of which a potential renter should be aware: the info indicates that there is a shower in each bedroom---this is true. We assumed this meant a full bath in each bedroom. However, there is only a sink and shower and just one toilet at the end of the hall. Larger groups may want to be aware of this. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay on the houseboat and recommend it to travelers looking for a unique experience. 12 October 2017 - 12:20:00

We really enjoyed our stay on the houseboat for four night's over the New Year's Eve/New Year's Day holiday. We are a family of three so having two bedrooms and two showers really helped. We enjoyed the privacy of a single home. Very convenient to grocery stores, restaurants, public transportation. Loved having a clothes washer and dryer in the houseboat. Beds were very comfortable, all the amenities we needed were there, everything was explained to us when we checked in! Would definitely stay here again! 02 January 2018 - 23:42:00
