The large gas fireplace has a beautiful maple mantle cut & polished by a local sawmill. Comfortable, casual furnishings surround this one of a kind art piece with a 55 inch flat screen TV mounted above it. From the rocking chair front porch, which is the perfect place to sip a cup of coffee to greet the sun as it peeks over the tree-tops, to the back deck where you see the sun set behind the mountain tops, Mountain Vista Retreat is surrounded by nature! Towering tulip poplars, maples, pines, and oaks, in addition to the mountain laurels nestled beneath, provide coverage for the birds and wildlife that call this place home. Conveniently located between Hendersonville and Chimney Rock, Mountain Vista Retreat is 12 miles from Lake Lure, 20 minutes from downtown Hendersonville and 35 minutes from Asheville. The Biltmore Estate, the area's number one attraction is only 35 minutes. Other major attractions close by include DuPont Forest State Park, the Carl Sandburg House, Chimney Rock Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are too many hiking trails and waterfalls to mention them all, along with many farm stands selling fresh locally grown produce (during season). The area apple orchards are open from August through October and several of these are an easy 5-10 minute drive from Mountain Vista Retreat! While the road leading up to the house is paved, because of the steepness of the road we recommend a 4 wheel drive vehicle during winter stays. Be sure to check out our other two properties, Saluda Vista and Verandah Vista, property ID's 709549 and 949224, and our website. We take pride in providing "the best" for our guests. Check in time is 4pm Check out time is 11 am It is important to keep these times in mind as we sometimes have a turnover and need to get the house ready for the new guests. This was an amazing weekend getaway. The cottage was immaculate and a definite WOW as soon as we drove up. The cottage was equipped with everything you would need. The views were absolutely breathtaking. We have decided this will be one of our yearly getaways and we would recommend this to anyone. 12 February 2015 - 16:51:57

My husband and I just got back from this amazing property. We didn't wan to leave! The view was amazing and the hot tub was simply awesome! The house was cozy and felt like home. Suzanne was great. We've stayed at many other rental properties up in the mountains but have never had anyone call us to make sure everything was great. So that was a real treat and there weren't any problems when I asked if we could stay an extra day. The whole house was equipped with anything you could ever need. Which was another first for us since it had never happened before at other places we had stayed in. We were always short something that we needed and had to go get it. Not the case here everything was perfect! We can't wait to come back. We're already looking at the calendar to pick out dates for our next visit! 18 March 2015 - 01:28:08

I will come back here! The cabin is beautiful, comfortable, and clean. Suzanne was wonderful and checked in on us the night after our arrival. My wife and I were there with a good friend from the UK to visit both Asheville and the Biltmore House and Gardens and it was very convenient to travel to both without having to use the interstate....plus Hendersonville and surrounds are just great. Do no hesitate to stay here as I certainly recommend it. 30 March 2015 - 22:16:25

House was perfect, quiet and secluded. Decor was up to date and had every comfort of home. Love the view. The back deck was great. . Grilled out and full size hot tub made this weekend a relaxing getaway we needed. Would most definitely stay again. 24 April 2015 - 01:10:42

The house is beautiful and very comfortable, the view is unbelievable. The owners arranged everything so nicely! It was a great pleasure to stay in this place. Thank you so very much. 05 November 2017 - 22:56:00

Once again, something like the 5th time we've stayed here, we love it! Seems like we spent more time in the hot tub than out of it this time, but everything about the house and property is amazing! The kitchen is well stocked, the TV has Netflix (this house is where we discovered Netflix), the frig has an ice maker, everything we need. Thanks again! 06 November 2017 - 01:57:00

This property as well as its owners are fabulous. The home is well secluded from the view of others but a careful ear can detect moments of road traffic during certain times of day. This is not a criticism since we were just as happy to be convenient to the roads that lead to our activities. My wife and I marveled at the quality of the furnishings, decor, and appointments. Suzanne and Marty are great people and hosts. During our stay, a thunderstorm knocked out power for about 12 hours which was clearly unavoidable and no one's fault. However, that means no water, phone, or internet during that time. It was not the end of the world and Suzanne was apologetic but it is something to consider. The dishes, utensils, cookware, and linens, etc. are top shelf. The location is very convenient to Asheville and the other area centers of interest. The hot tub and deck were the main attraction for my wife and I. Some may prefer a gas grill over charcoal but we were okay with the charcoal. My wife suggested, and I agree that a fire pit on the property would be nice. But that's getting really picky only because everything else is so perfect. We've rented a few properties in the area over the years and this is the nicest and most complete. It also fully accommodates all it sleeps. By that I mean that all six people who can sleep there can eat indoors, eat on the deck, watch television, and even squeeze into the hot tub (tightly) together. So many properties sleep 6 or 8 but all those people can't be in one place at the same time. This was refreshing to see. 2 master suites is also really cool. We picked up our daughter from camp and she had her own luxurious space in which to spread out for a couple days. If our plans allow, we would stay there again and certainly recommend it to others looking for the same experience. 28 July 2015 - 19:02:40

This property is absolutely beautiful and there isn't a detail that the owners haven't thought of. The furnishings of the home are gorgeous. The bedrooms are all nicely decorated with ample size and the beds are incredibly comfortable. The deck offers beautiful views and the side yard is wonderful for relaxing or as in our case, letting your toddler explore and take in all of the beautiful trees. The hot tub was heavenly and perfect for relaxing after spending a day hiking at Chimney Rock or checking out the annual Apple Fest. Chimney Rock is a short drive with beautiful scenery. The owners have even included a huge binder with plenty of info on nearby attractions. This is a beautiful part of the country and the home perfectly accommodated my husband and I as well as our 3 yr old son, and my parents with room to spare. I highly recommend this property and would absolutely stay here again! We found the area to be very quiet and relaxing. I would only caution that the road to access the property is a single direction uphill road with lots of trees however it's part of the incredible experience and the view at the top is well worth it! 09 September 2015 - 21:46:00

This is the first time we rented a vacation property through VRBO, and the experience couldn't have been more positive. Suzanne was prompt in answering our questions before booking and again in sending us all necessary information before our arrival. The house did not disappoint in anyway. It is beautifully decorated with extra touches that make it seem more like a comfortable home than a vacation rental property. Our ages ranged from 6-75 and everyone loved the house, the very comfortable beds, gorgeous views of the mountains from the deck and woods from the windows, excellent TV reception, and the use of Netflix and Wi-Fi. The well-stocked kitchen made our meal preparations a snap. Suzanne and Marty provided a notebook of all the basic house information as well as two notebooks full of information about area attractions. That was so helpful in planning our activities. We enjoyed visiting Justus and Granddad's Apple Orchards, shopping and lunch in historic Hendersonville, hiking at Chimney Rock, a visit to the Folk Center near Asheville, and hiking in the NC Arboretum all of which were just a short drive away. The area lends itself to many different interests and activities for every season. We did not find the drive to the house to be as challenging as described by some other visitors. We did not have a 4 wheel drive vehicle, only a Toyota Camry and a Honda van. We had one day of continuous rain but navigated the road just fine. It helps that the road is paved all the way to the house which is rare for many mountain properties. (Winter with snow or ice might be more of an issue, but we are confident Suzanne could answer all your questions and provide pertinent information if you plan a stay during the winter.) The view makes the drive worth it. There is an open area at the front of the house that would lend itself to lawn games. We have rented numerous vacation homes, but this one is definitely a cut above! We had a relaxing and refreshing week in a beautiful setting. 20 October 2015 - 02:39:13

We spent a lovely 4 days in the cabin. The weather was rainy off and on, but we did get outside to hike and see the beautiful fall colors. My grandchildren, daughter and son-in-law and husband totally enjoyed the beautiful cabin with everything there you might need. Beautifully decorated, and quality dishes and silverware. The hot tub was very nice after a day of hiking up 400 steps!! Thanks so much. We will be back. 12 November 2015 - 18:59:50

Just came home from a week at Mountain Vista and it was a wonderful week! The home is comfortable for 6, every detail has been thought of and addressed and the owners Suzanne and Marty were wonderful in providing suggestions for local activities. This was the second cabin we have rented on the last 4 years. This experience by far was superior to our prior rental. Spotlessly clean, beautifully laid out, convenient location this rental is a true gem! 11 July 2016 - 00:30:47

I love the North Carolina mountains especially in the summer when it is so much cooler than lower elevations. Suzanne and Marty's Mountain Vista Retreat is my favorite place I have stayed of all the places I have stayed through the years (except I wish I could bring my dog!). The deck and the hot tub are great -- the view is truly spectacular -- and the house is attractive and comfortable, with absolutely everything you need right at your fingertips -- and really really clean! With three bedrooms and three bathrooms, the house was perfect for three women who wanted peaceful time to paint and write and read. You feel completely secluded -- but it's only a short drive to any store or recreation you need. I feel that Suzanne has thought of everything to make her guests feel pampered. 02 August 2016 - 17:25:30

My family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Suzanne and Marty's Mountain Vista Retreat! There were plenty of activities galore within short driving distance. We spent our time exploring the area, hiking to waterfalls, climbing Chimney Rock, Zip lining (highly recommend The Gorge Zipline Tours), tubing on the Green River, etc. There was something for everyone. As for the stay...what can I say. Everything was perfect: a very clean and beautifully decorated home, a well appointed kitchen, soft, thirsty towels, etc. The television watchers and "connected" members of the family were thrilled to have satellite and reliable internet service. Suzanne and Marty thought of everything! This vacation was truly a retreat! 31 August 2016 - 19:03:00

I was SO excited to stay at the Mountain Vista Retreat for my Honeymoon in October of 2016. It did not disappoint! I don't think we could have felt more private and secluded anywhere else - yet we were close enough to all of the major stores and restaurants in Hendersonville (about 15-20 min) that it was still convenient. The hot tub was the perfect way to relax at the end of the day (or beginning), and all of the amenities provided were exactly what we needed for our week-long stay. We did run in to quite a few insects in the home (many of them already dead), but this is expected for such a secluded "in the mountains" home. On the bright side, the only insects we found in the master bedroom upstairs were lady bugs which did not bother us much. The only other down side of our stay was not being able to get the fireplace to turn on via remote. I just wanted to mention the issue for anyone who sees a fireplace as a necessity, but this issue did not diminish how much I enjoyed this rental in any way! Everything else was absolutely perfect, and we can't wait to visit again when we get the chance! PS - The view is one of a kind - especially in the fall time!! 29 January 2017 - 04:25:50

Although this was our first stay at Mountain Vista, it was the third time renting from Suzanne and Marty. We've rented Veranda Vista twice! This trip was a Girl's Get-Away with two of my sisters and a friend. We lounged on the comfy furniture, prepared some great meals it the kitchen (which provided for all our needs) and took in the fantastic views. The bedding and towels are luxurious and there is plenty of storage for our clothing, etc. the house was immaculate, and Suzanne always gives a "welcome" call the morning after arrival to be sure are expectations are met and to see if there is anything we need. The home is close to Lake Lure (we dined at La Strada's), Chinmey Rock and Hendersonville. Lots to do and many great places to eat. We saw a production of Dial "M" for Murder at the Flat Rock Playhouse one evening. Enjoyed the shops in Hendersonville and had a fabulous lunch at Mountain Deli. Even if the weather is crummy, the home is so comfortable and so light with all the windows, that sitting inside at reading, putting together a puzzle and watching a movie make for an enjoyable afternoon. Thank you again for proving us with a great place to decompress. We are looking forward to trying out Saluda Vista in the future, so we will have had the complete Vista Experience!!! 12 November 2017 - 23:11:00

The location was great "home base" for our blue ridge mountain vacation. The house is private and feels secluded but allows short drives (15-90 min) to many destinations and adventures such as Chimney Rock, Asheville, Biltmore, whitewater rafting, Mt. Mitchell SP, DuPont SP and numerous hiking trails, Blue Ridge Parkway, etc. After a long day hiking, the hot tub was an incredibly relaxing while gazing at the stars or sunset over the mountains across the valley below. We'd stay again! 13 June 2016 - 01:12:51

This house is the perfect retreat: its many amenities make it comfortable and inviting, its location must be seen to be believed, and its proximity to so many places of interest all make it an exceptional place to stay. The owners of the house are very helpful if you have any questions, and we appreciated all that they did for us. It truly is a lovely place, and I hope that, when you stay there, you will enjoy it as much as we did. 19 December 2017 - 10:32:00
  20. The house was absolutely wonderful. We cooked all of our meals at the house and did not need anything. All cooking utensils you need were provided. The king mattress was very comfortable. The views off the back deck were amazing, especially at sunrise and sunset. Have a grill out there was wonderful also. Suzanne was a wonderful host, calling us in the morning to make sure we go in fine and everything was perfect for us. The smart tv's were wonderful so we could curl up on the couch at watch our favorite shows in front of the fireplace. We plan on staying again, it was great! 24 January 2018 - 13:52:00
