About listing

Ground floor apartment of our Brooklyn brownstone/townhouse. The house was built in 1898 and has lots of beautiful original details. Free WiFi included as well as Coffee/tea with a Keurig Platinum Brewing system. The kitchen is fully equipped with plenty of cups, glasses, pots and pans, etc. We recently renovated the kitchen with new cool zinc countertops. Guests may also use our beautiful decked garden area with a bamboo wall, couches and an outdoor fireplace table. We live in the house upstairs and generally leave guests to themselves, but the garden is shared with us, and we may hang out by the fire pit with friends on occasions. The apartment has one large bedroom with a Queen size bed and a twin size daybed that also has a trundle bed underneath. Both are beautiful Restoration Hardware furniture pieces. The small bedroom is really just for sleeping and has a twin size bed and another pull-out twin size bed trundle underneath. Please see photos. For guests staying during the hot summer months (July/August), we have a standalone air conditioner in the main bedroom, but there is no AC in the small bedroom or the kitchen. It's generally just fine with the fans we have, but if you are very sensitive to heat and need the room cold, then this may not be the best place in the summer. Please always turn off the AC when leaving the apartment to help us preserve engery. A few blocks to Prospect Park with beautiful walks, great for jogging or cycling. The Audubon Center is right there by the Lake with Boat Rides. At the Prospect Park tennis center, there are always courts available by the hour. Prospect park also hosts the famous Drummers Circle and Brooklyn's large farmers market on weekends at Grand Army Plaza. The kitchen has a 4 ring Wolf gas stovetop, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, kettle and all the utensils needed. The smart TV has lots of cable channels as well as netflix, amazon prime, etc. No smoking anywhere inside or in the garden, no parties, and no guests other than the guests on the reservation. Local Attractions: * Prospect Park – Few Blocks * Brooklyn Museum – 15 Minutes * Brooklyn Botanical Garden – 15 Minutes * Brooklyn Zoo – 15 Minutes 20 minutes by subway to Manhattan Children 10 and older are welcome. Bedroom Configurations: * Bedroom 1 – 1 Queen Bed + 1 twin daybed + 1 twin pull out bed * Bedroom 2 (Optional) – 2 Twin Beds You will have the full self-contained apartment with your own entrance, private bathroom and fully equipped kitchen. We had a fantastic time staying in the apartment while visiting for a wedding in Park Slope. As a group of six, three of us longtime friends plus our partners, and we fit close but comfortably for two nights. The backyard patio is lovely to sit under with the lights at night, and the seating area is mostly covered so we could even sit outside for coffee on a rainy morning. Easy and convenient to walk a few blocks away for groceries. Great open kitchen layout to cook and chat together. The apartment was clean and stocked with everything we could need - just what we were looking for! 16 October 2017 - 23:14:00
  2. We stayed at the apartment for a long holiday Valentines weekend and had a great time! The apartment is a welcoming cute little space yet very roomy with great artwork and a wonderful eclectic feel, two showers and plenty of room for a family of 6. We even ended up spending an evening in just to rest up and enjoy the space. The neighborhood seemed to be safe and the people walking at all hours of the day and night appeared to be local residents and at no time did we feel unsafe. Parking was tight(it is NYC after all) but there is a parking garage at the end of the block. We found street parking all but once during our stay. The owners are a family and live in the upstairs living quarters and are very friendly and helpful. There was a bottle of wine on the counter to greet us as well. We would definitely stay here again if we get the chance. Thank you Sylvia & Andr for the opportunity to share your home! 20 February 2013 - 16:15:30

We stayed here while in town for our daughter's wedding. This was a wonderful place with all the comforts of home. We were able to get around with out a car as the public transportation was very close. Our hosts were very attentive and yet allowed us to enjoy the space privately. I especially appreciated that there was coffee available in the morning as we arrived very late the night before due to airline issues. They were great at giving us a map of the neighborhood so we could get out and find a grocery right away in the morning. Thank you we will be back! 12 June 2013 - 14:23:38

My dear girlfriends & I met up for a weekend getaway in NYC. We opted to stay in Brooklyn rather than the hustle & bustle of Manhattan. What a treat this home away from home was!! Sylvia & Andre were wonderful hosts - we even had a bottle of wine waiting for us when we arrived! The neighborhood was quiet & beautiful but still close to any amenities you may need. This will be our choice when visiting NYC again - HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! 03 October 2013 - 20:13:27

Loved the stay, the hosts were so kind and quick to help! Great patio to hang out in and good private location but close to active places in and around Brooklyn. Even for the fall it was nice to be outside in the evening on the patio and the kitchen was well - stocked and huge! It's an older apartment but very clean and well appointed and very comfortable for 2 couples. Thanks for everything. 19 October 2017 - 18:28:00

My brother turned 21 on September 11th so my family and I decided to plan a surprise trip to NY. To pay our respects to the September 11th memorial and to say good bye to our childhood hero Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees. We arrived in Brooklyn from Los Angeles and the trip immediately got off to a great start when we met the awesome artist Sylvia. The apartment is very spacious and very comfortable. Can't beat the location specially for the price. Just a 5 minute walk to the Q train and 15 mins later you're in Manhattan. The neighborhood itself has many grocery stores including one that is similar to a Wholefoods. I think it was called Wholesome. Few good pizza spots and terrific Indian food too. All in all our trip was amazing. The Yankees won on a walk off homerun and that was worth more than the price of admission. Sylvia thank you for your hospitality. Definitely be back. The little touches of your art and your husbands photos make for a cozy stay. Oh and thank you for the free coffee. I've already ordered my own through Amazon. We'll be back for sure. 06 October 2014 - 18:38:56

Our family of five enjoyed four nights in this comfortable brownstone. We fell in love with Brooklyn, which though huge, is a borough of neighborhoods. The residence is about an 8 minute walk to the subway (a Q train gets you to the south end of Central Park in 30 minutes), and to Prospect Park, which is Brooklyn's own Central Park. The residence is located in a diverse, historical, "real" neighborhood. We enjoyed sweets from Cinnamon Girl, dinners at King of Tandoor and J&J Jamaican restaurants, and breakfast at Wholesome Foods, all within a 5 minute walk. We also took in an Easter service at Brooklyn Tabernacle; took in Coney Island rides/games/boardwalk; hiked through Prospect Park; explored neighborhoods like Midwood, Brighton Beach, Park Slope and Borough Park; and walked over the Brooklyn Bridge---all (except for Coney Island and $31 for a 7 day METRO pass) for free. A bottle of wine and Snickers treats were a nice welcome, and the residence was a great place to launch out from and return to at the end of adventures. The residence also doubles as art and photography gallery that displays the owners' striking creations. Skip Manhattan, and come (or at least stay) here. 10 April 2015 - 16:19:51

Andre was very welcoming.........we arrived early for check-in and the apartment was ready for us. Great location, close to train/park/grocery store/restaurants, etc. Air conditioning was quite inadequate for the summer heat and the apartment was very hot, although we only spent early mornings and nights inside. A safety concern was the fact that the two rear doors to the owner's back yard were padlocked (I presume for privacy which I totally understand)...........however, in the event of a fire at the front of the residence, there would be no escape route through the back (or the windows as they are all gated for security) and any guests inside would be literally trapped. That being said, good value for the price and location. 23 August 2015 - 15:36:29

We stayed in this charming old-world style apartment for three nights recently - we were a large family group but felt there was sufficient room. The kitchen is lovely, the furniture is great. It is a basement apartment (which I didn't realize before we arrived) although there are large windows. The back door is padlocked, so no access to the back yard (fire hazard?). Easy walk to subway and coffee shops, street is charming. There was some violence on Flatbush (shooting at 3 am) but never felt any hostility on the streets during the day. Very international vibe to the area, with fun food options (one of us is vegetarian). 01 September 2015 - 12:35:38

A group of us reunited in Brooklyn for a long weekend away. We had a great time in New York and this apartment was perfect for our group of 6! We didn't spend much time in the apartment itself but it was nice, had everything we needed, and was close to Prospect Park/convenient to the Prospect Park subway station. Highly recommend! 23 October 2015 - 23:37:19

Adventure seekers wanted.... Do you want to stay up all night reconnecting the air conditioning in and out take hoses (held by duct tape) so that hot air is not filling up your room? Although, large enough and has great potential, the apartment was not clean, smells of mold and has inadequate air flow. There is a fantastic outdoor space but, there is a pad lock on the back door so exiting is impossible. Although the owners apologized for the condition of the apartment and said they fixed everything, there are multiple issues requiring more than a quick fix at this apartment. We will never stay there again! 06 August 2015 - 18:31:29

We had a great stay in this beautiful Brooklyn Brownstone. The location was good with access to restaurants, parks, and subway access. This is a comfortable unique place with outdoor access and all the amenities we needed. Thanks for letting us share your house. 30 October 2017 - 10:16:00

First let me say I was very naieve about Brooklyn. The apartment itself had everything you could possibly need and the backyard with all of the outdoor seating under the pergola was heavenly. We had our coffee out there and sat out there at night enjoying the peace and quiet. The apartment is well built, older but charming and is private and quiet. Some of the beds were a wee bit firm but we all slept well after our long days in the city. It was a short walk to the subway and most of that area appeared fairly safe during the hours we were out. I will say though that we knew nothing about the surrounding neighborhoods and decided to walk to a pizza place our first night. The neighborhood that we walked to was not only unfriendly, it was menacing and threatening to 4 Caucasian women. We were stared at and yelled at. When we finally arrived to the pizza place, Tonys which was awesome, they gladly called us a cab to get Home. As much as I enjoyed my stay Im not sure I would do it again because of that. Also they had a parade the day we were leaving and the police presence was amazing! First sign of police in that area our entire stay and they were on every corner. A bit alarming. We were told we would be fine as long as we werent wandering the neighborhood. 31 October 2017 - 01:00:00

A lovely spot perfect for out three person family. Thoughtfully appointed for travelers. We were there in very cold weather and this didnt take advantage of the pretty backyard patio, which Im sure would be wonderful in warm weather. Close to subway, good neighborhood restaurants nearby. 27 December 2017 - 17:32:00

Idyllic location for our girls' weekend. Quiet, cozy and quirky spot, perfect for 6 old friends to laugh and make new memories. Good bed setup for us and love the 2 showers in the bathroom - efficiency at its best! Wonderful hosts ensured we had all we needed, including last-minute refill of the propane tank so we could enjoy the backyard fire pit on a chilly night. 05 December 2017 - 23:04:00

While the property is interestingly quirky, we were not impressed with the cleanliness, location or overall experience. The backyard, while cute, was quite dirty. 05 November 2017 - 16:42:00

This place was fantastic. The hosts go the extra mile to make sure you are comfortable and have everything you need. Andre was very kind and accommodating. We liked that it had 2 showers in the bathroom which made it easier for our group of 6 to get ready for the day. The back patio is beautiful and we found the apartment to be really charming. We hope to be back again next time we visit Brooklyn 02 January 2018 - 13:45:00

My wife and I stayed at the Brownstone during a recent visit with our daughter who lives in Brooklyn. The neighborhood is beautiful, safe, and quiet, and we were able to get on street parking right in front of the apartment. The apartment was perfect and is very quaint. Sylvia and Andre are great hosts and were very accommodating. We will definitely stay there again. 13 November 2017 - 13:55:00

Sylvia and Andre own a lovely brownstone in a wonderfully diverse Brooklyn neighborhood that features easy transportation into the city and a variety of stores and restaurants. They have preserved the historic character of the apartment while equipping it with the all the appliances, WiFi and TV any traveler could wish for. The outdoor seating area would be most inviting in the warm weather. Additionally, Sylvia was very responsive and helpful when we had a problem with a lost item. We loved our stay there. 22 January 2018 - 22:19:00
