If you are on a budget (it is extremely difficult to find this quality at this price anywhere in NYC) and or just need a place to crash after a busy day in NYC (has all the basic necessities), look no further than this boutique studio apartment in historic Harlem. It is within walking distance of most everything that you will need (groceries, subway, etc). We found the owner to be extremely friendly and helpful, both before & during our stay. The neighborhood in which it is situated, is both beautiful and safe (entrance is well lit, and the door to the apartment, as well as the windows are protected at the street level). We highly recommend taking the bus from LaGuardia Airport (purchase a Metro Pass) to within a few blocks of the apartment (after which, you can walk or take the subway; return to the airport using the same mode of transportation). So, what are you waiting for, book this place for your next trip to NYC. It will not disappoint. 28 March 2013 - 23:09:04

Thanks K for being so nice and friendly. We highly recommend this property. A real great value. 19 November 2015 - 18:54:25

My husband and I stayed in Kakuna's rental for our 5th anniversary trip to NYC, and it was just amazing! The studio is small, but so comfortable. Both beds are nice, and the perfect height to pull the table over to use while you're sitting on the bed. The bathroom is also stocked with shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. The kitchen is the perfect size, with everything you need to cook full meals during your stay. Kakuna had bread, eggs, milk, juice, coffee and tea, all there and ready for us when we arrived. It was so nice to not have to worry about breakfast after a long day of traveling! We were SO close to the subway, I don't think we could've asked for a better location since we only took the subway while we were visiting. The corner market is also walking distance away, very convenient. My husband and I are already talking about our next trip to the city, and we will absolutely be renting from Kakuna again if we can! She made our trip even better than it already was, and she was just a text or call away if we needed anything! 22 March 2015 - 00:21:04

We stayed in the studio for a week early January. Everything was perfect: the place is fully renovated, clean, comfortable. It's near the subway and close to restaurants and coffee shops, on a beautiful, quiet street lined with brownstone houses. Kekuna is a dedicated host, in all the little details, you can feel that she likes hosting people. She even provided us with fresh groceries for breakfast. We'll definitely come back! 11 January 2017 - 15:32:00

We stayed for 14 days in this studio apartment. The studio is nicely located at historic Harlem and right across the station where we could easily reach all attractions in NYC. Kakuna was always extremely helpful with tips and suggestions. The studio is well organized, clean and you can find everything you need in the kitchen. I have gluten intolerance and was very happy to know that in Fairway Market (15-20 min walking) I was able to find a great variety of gluten free products. We certainly had a lovely time and enjoyed our stay! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! :-) Amanda & Marco 22 December 2015 - 18:11:35

The whole apartment is full equipped and located in a great position (1 min away walking from the subway). The studio is well organized and the hosts are extremely help! Unfortunately during our staying the building in front of us was under construction so it was very noisy in the morning. I would recommend it! 13 February 2017 - 22:22:00

Like others, we'd never been to New York, and were concerned about Harlem. Based on the other reviews we read and Kakuna's feedback, we went ahead and went for it. So glad we did. My wife was a little concerned a few times about the neighborhood, but only because of her own fears... We never experienced anything upsetting at all. I loved being in a place full of so much history and character. I felt like I was in a genuine place in New York, not some sterile environment. The studio was perfectly fine. We were able to get in late, and sleep in late, without any problem. I was surprised how quiet it was... very nice. Kakuna was very attentive and provided great ideas. We had a problem with the fridge, and they took care of it right away. I would definitely stay here again, and recommend it to others. As a side note, if you haven't been already, go to the famous Apollo, especially on amateur night (Wednesdays). It's just a few blocks away, and an amazing time. 01 April 2017 - 19:46:00

Loved staying here...had everything we needed and convenient to 135 St subway station. Local neighborhood was great too with lots of places to eat and hang out close by. We would stay here again if in New York. 18 August 2017 - 15:02:00

My daughter and I stayed in this little basement studio for 4 nights. Everything went well, Kakuna the host was great with helping us and being in touch with us before we arrived and during our stay. She left us some bread and eggs and jam and milk and oj for our stay and she helped us with our itinerary. The room was well supplied with blankets and towels. It wasn't fancy but it was a lovely little spot to stay and we would do it again! It felt safe and a nice quiet neighborhood just a couple mins walk to the subway.. our only disappointment was that the bikes weren't in working order.. thank you Kakuna for everything! 21 September 2017 - 01:41:00

The studio apartment was perfect for my visit to NYC - I have previously stayed in Harlem and love the neighbourhood, and this apartment was perfect, close to the subway, clean, with everything you could possibly need - and at a great price. It was a great size - perfect for one or two. The owners were helpful and provided assistance when needed. I would definitely stay here again without hesitation - and hope to be back in NYC again soon. 08 March 2017 - 13:45:00

This studio apartment is small but very efficient and has everything one needs for a very comfortable stay. When I arrived, I was a bit concerned because the window faces the street. As I am rather noise-intolerant, I was worried about street noise at night. It's a quiet street and nice neighborhood, and noise was not a problem at all. I met Kakuna, the lovely owner, shortly after arriving. She had breakfast items available (eggs, orange juice, bread and butter), which was just so thoughtful and welcoming. The bathroom is a good size for NYC. There is a dishwasher and washer/dryer, which is really a nice option. The kitchen has everything needed for cooking a meal. The subway is very close and there is even a park nearby. I felt very safe and would definitely stay again. 28 April 2017 - 13:48:00

We stayed in this studio for 5 nights & could not believe how quiet this neighbourhood was. Very convenient to both the bus & subway. The studio has every amenity you could possible need & we were greeted with fruit juice, milk, tea & coffee, butter & cereal. Very much appreciated after a very long & delayed flight from Western Australia. Extremely nice & helpful host's. We hope to stay longer next time & enjoy this space again! 28 July 2014 - 13:28:46

This property was really bad first of all nobody mentioned in overall description that this is the open studio in the basement. We rented this place for three nights but we didn't want to stay there because of overall conditions of this place. It may seems like it is great place based on the reviews but it is not. Stay away from this place. 02 September 2017 - 00:38:00
