About listing

Owned by The Schmidt Family since 2001, this lovely 1905 brick home sits on a treelined block with friendly neighbors. Around the corner is the scenic and active Sunset Park with expansive western views of New York Harbor, Manhattan, Staten Island and New Jersey from one of the highest points in Brooklyn. The separate apartment has its own private entrance below the front stoop of this one family home. Enter the airy, open living room through a cheerful vestibule welcoming guests to a sitting area by the windows with contemporary furniture and a sturdy, comfortable sleeper couch. At the other end is the bright fully equipped corner kitchen with stone counter tops and the dining area set around a french country table. Original art is hung throughout the apartment of which many are made by local Brooklyn artists. The loft bedroom up two steps from the living area is cozy with a queen bed, a modern bureau and ensuite bathroom only accessible through the bedroom. (Attention:Ceiling height is 6’3” in bedroom.) The apartment is best for 2 people but can accommodate up to 4. Free WiFi included. Located on residential block between Brooklyn’s Chinatown(8th Ave), Latin American(5th Ave), Waterfront Bush Terminal Park (Soccer and Baseball playing fields) and Industry City(2nd Ave). The Avenues are filled with ethnic groceries and restaurants, shops and pharmacies. Sunset Park still offers an affordable place to shop and experience a vibrant, multicultural stroll. Just 2.5 blocks down the hill to 45th Street Station (Local R Train) and 1 stop(or a 10min. walk through the park) to 36th Street Station(Express D & N Trains), it is a great location to access Manhattan(approximately 30 minutes) and other parts of hip Brooklyn. The local 5th Ave bus takes you through Park Slope to the Barclay’s Center and down to Brooklyn Heights Waterfront Park. Historic Sunset Park located 1 block away, offers green open spaces and shaded tree spots. It also has a playground, chess tables, handball courts, soccer, basketball, and in summer free swimming pool access in art deco recreation center built by WPA in the 1930’s. The Schmidt Family welcomes you to their home and hope that you enjoy discovering Sunset Park as you visit the Greater New York City area!

Elise was wonderful, and made our stay very comfortable! She literally thought of everything. (: It was such a convenient location - right around the corner from Sunset Park - my companion and I just loved it. Would most certainly recommend both Elise as host, and her lovely apartment, for the most wonderful Brooklyn stay. 22 May 2017 - 16:37:00

Feel SOOOOOO lucky to have found this WONDERFUL HomeAway Apartment in Brooklyn! Elise is THE BEST HOSTESS we could have hoped for! So easy to communicate with, and willing to offer guidance to the overwhelmed Single Mom traveling with her Teen....for the first time in NYC. Elise has a great welcome packet prepared to greet guests, with loads of information about the neighborhood and NYC. The Apartment was SPOTLESS. Kitchen had EVERY appliance, utensil, and dish we could have possibly needed, even if our visit was much longer than 8 nights. The mattress in the private bedroom was SUPER comfy! "Fresh air" served to cool things off and serve as White Noise. Hot water immediately available in the shower, every time. Also appreciated the plush, nice sized bath towels. Surprisingly quiet, but only 3.5 blocks from the subway! Grocery also within 3 blocks, but could have easily grabbed all our meals (and THE BEST bagels, baked in house!) from Sunset Bagels, open 24 hours. Breathtaking Sunset Park within blocks offer spectacular views of NYC! Love the ethnic feel of The 'Hood. We look forward to returning many times, since of course, there's SO much of NYC yet to discover! Thank you Elise (and family!) 05 June 2017 - 04:06:00

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at this cozy, charming and well-stocked apartment. Elise was extremely accommodating, true to previous reviews, and she was helpful via long distance even as she was out of town most of the time that we were there. Her husband Steve also made himself available and helped us with an ironing board. The bedroom was dark, cool and the mattress was comfortable, important elements for us to ensure good sleep. We appreciated the kind gestures of a few small breakfast items left for us and a thoughtful neighborhood guide created by our hosts to help with recommended coffee shops, restaurants and public transportation. The apartment sits on a quiet street straddling bustling Chinatown and a Latin American neighborhood, which made for an exciting and enjoyable cultural experience, and we felt safe walking late at night as well. The access to the subway, Sunset Park and many ethnic shops and restaurants made this a memorable location and it was nice to stay in a Brooklyn neighborhood that hasn't been impacted by gentrification and chain businesses yet. Thank you! 13 June 2017 - 21:26:00

Had everything to make it feel like home, and plenty of good lighting and A/C. 13 June 2017 - 15:04:00
  5. Don't pass up this wonderful apartment. We were a family of 4 ( 2 kids) and fit comfortably in this very nice and very clean Brooklyn apartment. The area was very safe with great restaurants in every direction. Close to sunset park with amazing views of manhatten. Neighborhood is a great mix of diverse cultures. Just a few blocks to the train station. The owners were friendly and quick to answer any questions we had. Would definitely stay again 21 June 2017 - 15:33:00

Very clean interior. Well laid out floor plan. Elise was always very helpful in adjusting to the new surroundings. Sunset Park is a block away with wonderful view of the city and also has a very large public pool. The subway is only 2.5 blocks away. Neighbor hood is relatively safe. There were 2 nights where I walked back to the apartment from the subway after midnight without any problem. However that probably isn't a smart thing to do no matter where you're at. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. 13 July 2017 - 03:53:00

27 September 2017 - 07:41:00

We had an amazing time in NYC! Elise was amazing. Super responsive with any questions and very helpful with suggestions. This was a great home base for all of our adventures across NYC. We walked through the neighborhood late at night coming back from broadway and a nighttime sail boat and it was very safe and beautiful. The park near by has amazing views of Manhattan. We would stay here again! 30 September 2017 - 15:04:00

We loved our stay in Brooklyn ( of course being only 3 doors away from our new granddaughter helped) Elise is such a lovely , hospitable host. It's quite roomy for a 1 bedroom with a nice sized bath. Everything was very comfy and well kept. Parking is a pain, but that's NYC. 12 October 2017 - 01:53:00

Everything was homey! Milk and eggs in the frig with a fresh loaf of wonderful bread. Great bed to snooze after long days of hoofing around the city. Elise's beautiful art on all the walls...great shower...wifi...always felt comfortable! Close to the city...only 2 1/2 blocks to the R train which took us right to the Battery for Ellis Island and Miss Liberty, the 9/11 Museum, the Village and of course, McSorley's! Caught a game at the new Barclay's Center...just 3 stops! The views from Sunset park are amazing! Make sure you take a tour of Greenwood Cemetery, just a few blocks away. We don't see how this stay could have been better! Thanks Elise!!!!!!! 26 March 2015 - 19:32:48

This was, for us, an ideal place to stay while visiting NYC! A perfect place for a family or a couple. Elise was a fantastic host, welcoming us from the start, and making us feel at home. She is very accessible and prompt to reply. Everything we needed was provided, and then some! Her local food recommendations were great, and she made our 5th anniversary extra special with a lovely gift (Thank you again!!). The home, decorations, and lighting were beautiful and comfortable. We loved the proximity to the subway, and to the nice variety of neighborhood eats--Latin American (multiple countries), Chinese, Vietnamese, to name some of the choices--all within a couple blocks in any direction. Sunset Park was alive with locals and beautiful to walk. We spent a lot of our time in Brooklyn Heights and Manhattan, not too far by subway and some walking. There is a nearby car rental which allowed us to take a day trip upstate. Best of all: After a long day out, this was a place we looked forward to going home to. The place you stay should be part of the vacation, not just a place to sleep.Thank you, Elise, for creating just that for us! We have recommended it to friends and can't wait to come back ourselves. 06 July 2015 - 01:45:36

Dear Elise We have had a great time in the apartment. Thanks for that. Elise is (and Steve) a very warm and nice owner. She helped us with all the questions we have had. She helped us with our camping equipment and with the delay of our luggage. We couldn't find a better place for our visit in New York. The apartment is very clean and has everything that you need for a vacation. We have stayed here 1 week with our 2 daughters. Also the location is very nice. Sunset park is nice to walk through with all the chinese people dancing Salsa and doing Thai Chi. We have never feld unsafe. Even not late at night coming back from Manhattan. The metro is nearby and easy to reach. Also a supermarket (Keyfood) is nearby for daily grocery. I hope lots of orther quest will enjoy your apartment. 16 August 2015 - 20:56:53
