About listing

We work very hard to make The Cottage at Where Water Falls a magical oasis just for you. After all, this mid-century cottage was built by my grandfather! When you open the gate you'll discover an AMAZING private backyard. You'll hear a waterfall splashing next to a hot tub that's awaiting you & your favorite beverage. You'll feel the warmth of a fire pit (that uses real wood) to snuggle up & roast a s'more or two or three... Take a midday snooze on the hammock tucked in a small grove of redwoods. Rekindle that child within with a game of Ping-Pong or horseshoes. Wanna come inside? The interior is decorated in a fun yet relaxed retro style. The living room has a 'kick back & relax' feel with original wood walls, a wood burning stove, Foosball, lots of games & books to keep you entertained and of course many personalized touches throughout. The updated kitchen is fully loaded - just bring the food! Slip into the king size bed in the master bedroom and... RELAX. The bedroom has views of the redwoods & its own private bathroom. The second bedroom has a king size bed & decorated in a lighthearted style with original artwork & views of our garden. A second full bathroom is just down the hall. There are twin roll-away beds (that can be rolled outside for the more adventurous!) to accommodate two more people. The deck overlooks 70-year-old apple trees (that were planted by my great grandmother!) & the iconic redwoods. You'll hear chickens crowing in the distance and even an occasional wild turkey! I guarantee if you sit in our rocking chairs with your favorite beverage, you'll notice your worries melt away... Whether it’s outdoor solitude that you desire or a little good old fashioned fun – you are sure to find it at The Cottage. Give yourself a reboot in our neck of the woods! Other Amenities Include: gas BBQ, wood for fire pit & wood stove, cable TV, free Wi-Fi Internet, free local & long distance telephone, CD/DVD player, iPod cable to sound system, washing machine & dryer, parking off the street and of course the mountain views!

  1. If you are looking to destress, this is the perfect getaway. We are very particular about our lodgings, but fell in love with this cottage. It is beautifully decorated, newly renovated, and super clean. But what makes it so special, are the details and care that the owners have put into making your stay memorable. Every time we turned around, a surprise awaited us. Whether it was a hammock tucked in the backyard amongst the redwoods, the welcome basket, or the quilt made by the owner's grandmother, we just really enjoyed being there. We have stayed at Costanoa and would much rather stay here. The cottage has everything to keep you occupied: movies, foosball, old-fashioned games, table tennis, a fire pit, hot tub, swing, logs for a fire, etc. The owners are a delight to deal with. The booking process was simple and very efficient. Can't wait to go back! 17 November 2012 - 07:01:56

My recent visit to this property was outstanding. The attention to detail that was given to the cottage(inside and out), as well as the amenities provided is exceptional. I have never experienced the level of comfort from any other rental property. The purpose of my visit was to show my extended family members the beauty of California. The location of the cottage was the perfect setting to show off the gorgeous redwoods, the ocean, and fantastic food California has to offer. We utilized all of the recommendations listed on the owner's website and we were never disappointed. The family excursion was a complete success and all the credit goes to this fabulous cottage. On our last day, everyone was sad to leave but we are already planning our next trip! 15 November 2012 - 19:08:38

The pictures on the website do not do justice for what awaits you upon entering the property. The minute you enter the wooden door, the outside patio beckons you to follow the path towards the waterfall, where you just want to lounge by the fire pit with a glass of wine in your hand. The back patio is spacious and delightfully landscaped and decorated, and is even more stunning at night with the lighting. Upon entering, our family was greeting with a special welcome message on the board. The cottage is spacious, clean, and had all the amenities one can want. The attention to details was amazing. We really appreciated the warm welcome basket waiting for us with a bottle of wine, fresh baked sugar cookies, cheese & crackers, chocolates and marshmellows to roast in the fire pit. The abundance of board games, ping pong table, foosball table, dvds, entertainment system left not a moment of boredom. The cottage was well stocked with basic necessities from shampoo to towls, and even provided make up remover in the bathrooms. The kitchen is modernly equiped and suited well for our family Thanksgiving weekend there and the dining table was spacious. The fire place created a warm ambiance pre & post dinner - giving us many hours to talk and laugh the nights away. The perfect to end the night for a few of us was to watch the stars and reminisce about good times, while the stress of daily life melted away in the hot tub. What more can one ask for? We commonly rent vacation homes when we travel, from within California, to Hawaii, and all the way to Italy. We have to say, this has been one of the most positive experiences we've had...not only from the property but from the begining of the process with Amy all the way to the thoughtful card after our stay. We would recommend this property to anyone who wants to have a memorable trip and experience, wheter it be for good times with family & friends or a quiet relaxing time to rejuvenate the soul. Thank you!!! -The Mack Family 30 November 2012 - 06:35:14

The listing description of this property and location sounded wonderful, but the privilege of actually staying in it exceeded our highest expectations! The darling cottage was so clean, well equipped and decorated! The landscaping was gorgeous. There were six of us staying there and we took advantage of ping pong, horseshoes, hot tub, hammock on the hill, television, books, well equipped kitchen and more. We definitely would recommend this property to friends and relatives (providing that we could go there with them!). The owner was very helpful, both in emails and by little notes of descriptions and information in the cottage. On our way home we went to the tiny town of Pescadero, saw the amazing goat farm and market and bought very special food items. There are very good restaurants in nearby Half Moon Bay and we recommend Calvary Chapel there for Sunday services. There aren't many other places that provide the beautiful forest and ocean so close together and we love it!!! 03 April 2013 - 05:57:02

After full days of sightseeing, the cottage was so nice to come back and unwind. It is absolutely beautiful both inside and out!!! The house was equipped with everything you could possibly need. A ton of love and attention has gone into this lovely home. I did not want to leave. Thank you Amy and family!!! 30 June 2013 - 20:00:42

This Place is really fantastic!!! Location is good and the photos was fine. But nobody can't describe this place with photos, you must see it by yourself. The property was VERY CLEAN!!! We are two couples from Sweden, and we have never rented such a good place before. The owner was very helpful and answered all our questions. We would really recommend this place to our friends. One thing about the restaurants in Pescadero and also the shops. The people there were not so friendly, we don't know if it was because that we are Tourists, but I Think the need to change their behaviour. We are used to all friendly people in the restaurants in California. 04 July 2013 - 08:00:16

The cottage exceeded our expectations in every way possible. It was extremely clean and organized. Some examples... Every appliance was so well taken care of it gave us the impression we were the first family to use Them. There were a lot of little extra things for us to use like the welcome basket, fresh coffee, shampoo and body wash, and so much more. We felt at home in this beautiful cottage. All the extras like the hot tub, ping pong table, football table, and all the board games made our time at the cabin very enjoyable. We are definitely going back. 10 July 2013 - 00:04:54

Our family took a vacation in the San Francisco area in July. After exploring the big city and the area north, we spent the final 4 days here in this beautiful cottage. We made the right decision to end our vacation here and just RELAX. We have rented many vacation homes over the years and this has to be the nicest we have ever stayed in. Our hosts made it very welcoming for us, even including a gift basket with wine, cheese, crackers, pistachios, and marshmallows for roasting over the fire pit. The kitchen is fully equipped to include coffee and even a stocked espresso machine. There are many thoughtful and interesting things to notice in the cottage from labels on containers to the artwork consisting of locals photographs of chickens, pets, flowers, and even a banana slug. The landscaping around the house is a treasure -- many different types of plants and flowers. My son and I had fun playing ping pong on the back patio. Wood is provided to build a fire in the fire pit and my wife read there in the evenings while my son and I relaxed in the hot tub. We loved the lack of humidity and being able to sit outside with no mosquitoes! I am an early riser and sat on the front deck in the mornings and listened to roosters crowing in the distance and watched a deer grazing in the grass next to the driveway. The cottage is in a heavily-wooded, hilly, rural area. While there are neighbors nearby and people driving by on the road, the cottage has plenty of privacy with a fence and trees. We always felt secure and private. The cottage is about 20 minutes from Pescadero which has a gift shop, small grocery store, and Duarte's Tavern which is a good place to have a nice dinner. A little bit farther and you are on Highway 1 at Pescadero Beach so it's easy to get on the highway to explore Half Moon Bay or Monterey on a day trip. When we arrived at the cottage, all three of us were burned out. When we reluctantly left to go home, were recharged. I hope we can come back one day -- we would definitely stay here again! 27 July 2013 - 16:39:48

We stayed at the Cottage for a fantastic three day weekend with our adult son and his guest. The Cottage is charming and meticulously cared for, and the gardens are cozy and welcoming. The Cottage owners anticipated every need by providing directions, entry instructions, grocery and restaurant locations, and links to area activities; they also left a delightful welcome basket, We spent our days hiking in area parks and beaches, and at the Cottage, we enjoyed the hot tub, horse shoes, ping pong, indoor games, and more. The Cottage is roomy, comfortable, and well equipped, and the owners could not be more hospitable. We did not have enough time to take advantage of all that the Cottage and area have to offer, and I would love to have the opportunity to return. 29 October 2013 - 00:10:49

Charming, magical, close to nature...hidden gem in Pescadero! Amy's rental was the perfect place for my family....we visited the goat farm, Half Moon Bay, downtown Pescadero, the beach...stayed in the beautiful redwoods but only 5-10 minutes from the beach - the best of both worlds! Wish we could have stayed more than 2 nights!!! Not a thing to bring with you, the cottage is FULLY stocked! My family will return again and again :-) 25 April 2014 - 22:50:07

I have stayed in a lot of VRBO places all around the US and Caribbean and The Cottage experience was THE BEST! Amy goes above and beyond to accommodate her guests - she literally thinks of everything. The house is immaculate, stocked with everything you could want or need. The decor is cute and the outdoor area is awesome. So much to do - ping pong, horseshoes, bbqing, fire pit, hot tub, hiking, all on or from the property. I am picky, and I was so pleased. We kept noticing new things throughout our weekend stay, the herbs to cook with, the games, and on and on. Thank you Amy! 09 September 2014 - 20:19:21

What an incredible place. Totally exceeded expectations. Every touch was personal and welcoming. So much so that I had to keep reminding myself that I didn't actually know the owners. The place was beautiful, well appointed, decorating with charm and taste and very gracious. Generous treats at every turn. We hope to return again and again. 12 October 2014 - 18:22:54

The cottage is lovely and well-appointed with everything you can think of. Amy was responsive to our requests and questions and was always pleasant and helpful. It was a perfect location for a get-together with old friends. We enjoyed the rockers on the deck, the hot tub, cooking in the well-appointed kitchen, grilling fresh fish outside, fires in the fire ring after supper, and fires in the living room fire place on chilly evenings. (We also enjoyed local wines during many of these activities!) Spent one day going to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, another exploring nearby beaches and picking up fresh fish in Half Moon Bay. The last day we took a couple of nearby hikes through the red woods and then returned to the cottage to laze around. I have particularly fond memories of reading a book in the hammock under the redwoods. I highly recommend this vacation property. It's a great get away just an hour from San Jose. 14 October 2014 - 00:09:18

Oh my gosh, I don't even know where to begin! My husband and I and another couple stayed here for only 2 nights (wish we'd stayed longer) to celebrate my 40th birthday. My friend and I were running a 50K close by, so we found this lovely cottage that looked perfect for the 4 of us. The Cottage exceeded our expectations! As soon as we walked in, we fell in love. It is bright, clean, and comfortable. In January, it was decorated with winter themed pillows and other decorations, including twinkle lights outside. Now, that's personal! Amy communicated very well and really made us feel at home. The Cottage has so many personal touches to make you feel pampered. There was a welcome basket waiting for us when we arrived, the fire pit had wood AND newspaper in it ready to be lit, and the hot tub was ready to go! There were shampoo and soap dispensers in the bathrooms, plus hair dryers and plenty of towels. There were board games, books, foosball, ping pong, horseshoes, and many other games and activities to enjoy at your leisure. They thought of everything and didn't cut any corners on this place. The front porch was relaxing and the back porch was amazing! We spent both nights out in the hot tub (REALLY nice after that 50K) enjoying the sound of the waterfall and a croaking frog. The kitchen was well-appointed for the most part. My husband loves to cook, so he and my friend's husband cooked dinner for us both nights. The only thing they said they wish they had were a few basic spices, but I'm sure if we'd have just asked, Amy would have brought us what we needed (her house is right behind the cottage). They even used the grill for burgers one night. This is an old family home that has been completely remodeled beautifully, but they kept the charm and a few items from it's former glory, such as some artwork, a quilt, and an old telephone. Many of the photos on the wall were taken by Amy herself. The beds were comfortable and there were even robes for use in the closet! There were little signs and labels to tell a little bit about the history (and let us know where things were), which was really neat. We also didn't realize how close we were to the coast! Hwy. 1 is super close, so if you want to sightsee, it's a great place to be. We will definitely be back! This is a great getaway, and it is definitely better than any description or photos will show. Thank you so much for sharing this with us, Amy! 5+ stars! 15 January 2015 - 15:23:01

4 Moms+1 amazing sanctuary= an unforgettable weekend. We literally spent our first hour there just oooooohing and ahhhhhhing and discovering the endless amenities. We were already blown away with the website, correspondence and the welcome postcard in the mail, but then all the personal touches in the house, the amazing garden and whimsical decor, the welcome note and goodies....every sight line was filled with joy. The serenading frogs in the evening by the hot tub are a nice touch too ;) We will be back! 20 June 2016 - 06:17:16

This was by far the best VBRO house we have rented! Amy was amazing from the initial contact. She goes above and beyond to make sure you are comfortable and know all the sights and places to eat in the area. My husband and I were traveling with my cousin and her husband and our only regret was that we did not have more time to spend at the house. It is out in the country, but only about 15 minutes to the interesting little town of Pescadero, where we ate at Duartes (tried the artichoke/green chili soup) and a few minutes more to the beautiful Pescadero Beach. We used this cottage as home base for our drive down Highway 1. It was also an easy and beautiful drive into San Francisco from there as well. As for the house, it was very comfortable, nicely decorated and stocked with everything you could possibly need. Amy had music playing for us when we arrived and we were also treated to a wonderful welcome basket and note. The front porch was so peaceful with it's rocking chairs and swing. The back patio was amazing, nestled in the beautiful landscaping. We played ping pong, horseshoes and soaked in the hot tub by the little water falls. There was a hammock and swing up a little path behind the house also. The beds were very comfortable and the linens and towels were like new. We used the washer/dryer and were comfortable in the living room which was stocked with games for every age. I highly recommend this property. You will not be disappointed! 18 August 2016 - 22:41:57

They house was immaculate, so clean and nice. Beautiful porch to sit on and watch the sun set beyond the trees. They hot tub was great for a relaxing soak after adventures. The location is great for wanting to get away. It's far enough from everything to feel like youre in a different place but close enough if you want to go to the coast or the city. The fresh baked cookies and spa water in the fridge were a great addition and welcome gift. It was such a great experience that we all decided that it would be a great place to visit again with more time. 01 May 2017 - 22:46:00
