About listing

A unique opportunity to sleep and relax on the majestic Hudson River only one hour from the great cultural center of New York City. Located on a quiet street that ends at an entrance to the Palisades State Park with a 5 mile bike/hiking trail along the Hudson. Five minutes away you can take a small ferry across the river to the Hudson River train line to Grand Central Station. Very unique location with spectacular river views. You can visit the museums and theater of NYC and come home to hike and relax and listen to the sound of the river. We have a stairway down to the Hudson and provide the use of a canoe & kayak and a fire pit on the shores of the Hudson. The house is a 5 minute drive from the Village of Haverstraw with an array of Latino food and small bodegas and 15 minutes from Nyack, with its charming shops and restaurants. Bear Mountain & Harriman State Park are within a half hour drive with a myriad of amazing hiking trails.

Joan, Staying in your home was a wonderful experience. The view was spectacular and everything about it was splendid. Enjoyed the hot tub and the bicycling trails right down the street. Anyone looking to get away and relax this is the place to go. You and your husband were wonderful hosts and your pick for dinner (Union) was spot on. Can not thank you enough for our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay the week of August 1st. The house was clean and comfortable, and the views were fantastic. There was always something to look at on the river: the ferries, the barges, or sailboat races. We used the grill and kitchen to cook each night, eating out on the deck to enjoy the view. The house is not a far drive to Harriman State Park where we did some fishing and hiking, and we used the bikes on the hiking/biking trail at the end of the block. We took the canoe out on the river and searched the beaches for 'sea glass'. For people who enjoy outdoor activities, it is the perfect place. The hot tub was nice to relax the sore muscles after our days of hiking too! The owners are helpful and we would definitely recommend this place to anyone. 17 August 2016 - 16:48:00

We had the opportunity and pleasure to spend 4 nights in this property while attending our daughter's wedding. The property is very unique from the location literally right on the Hudson River to the decor including thought provoking art. The bedrooms are large and the beds and pillows very comfortable. We spent most of our free time on the deck overlooking the river appreciating the view and enjoying the peace and quiet. It has a large flat panel TV but honestly we never got around to turning it on. The kitchen is fully furnished including little touches like real maple syrup for pancakes/oatmeal, spices and ice cream in the freezer (we replenished the supply when we left). Previous reviews have commented on the neighborhood. Our experience is that the neighbors are very quiet and respectful and the people we interacted with were friendly and helpful. The location is close to shopping and restaurants and the hiking/biking trail at the end of the road is an added bonus. We will have occasion to travel back to Haverstraw periodically and without reservation we will look to stay at this very special property. 09 October 2016 - 11:24:00

We loved the Hudson River views from this quiet artist's retreat. Lovely hot tub deck with sweeping views and private beach access. Great time to be here for fall color and eagles flying overhead. Walked in Palisades Park just down the residential lane and hiked up to the hawk watch on Hook Mt. a short drive away. The funky neighborhood is a secret waterfront enclave that serves as a great base for a weekend of hiking and birding! Clean, comfortable, art-filled home! 13 November 2016 - 15:54:00

The river view from the house was truly breath taking. There is a large deck on the back of the house and a stairway to the private beach which features a cabana with electricity and stove. You know right away by all the special touches in the house that it is owned by a talented artist. We were very comfortable there and we hope to return in the future. 03 October 2016 - 23:55:00

We greatly enjoyed our stay here. It was a perfect location for us. Close to NYC to visit with friends and a good meeting place to visit with other friends from Garrison. The house has so much to offer being right on the river. With the snow, though, we could not make the most of everything here. We will have to go back when it is warmer and enjoy the kayak and hang out along the river's beach. 19 March 2017 - 00:56:00

This house was amazing! The perfect romantic getaway. Cozy, intimate, beach vibe, amazing hospitality and view. Every detail was thought of to make guests feel welcome. Very clean and well kept. The hot tub is super fun (it's outside- even in the winter it was great!)! Joan is so nice and easy to deal with. 29 January 2017 - 13:29:00

While the neighborhood seems a bit rundown- the house is a wonderland of views besides a great kitchen and countless amenities. The house is immaculate and well designed for maximum relaxation and enjoyment. 19 September 2016 - 21:24:00

We really enjoyed our time at this Riverfront home in Haverstraw. It was clean, cozy and equipped. We especially enjoyed the deck and views of the Hudson river. I was aware in advance that the road is tight from other reviews. My only suggestion would be to add a window air conditioner to the master bedroom as my guests were very warm (but they do like things cool). Overall, very nice. 30 May 2017 - 20:18:00

Pleasant, comfortable, convenient to Westchester County and West Point. Great view and access to the Hudson River. Haverstraw Ferry is 5 minutes away and takes you to Ossining Train Station for easy access to NYC. Didn't want to leave! GB from TN 05 June 2017 - 13:32:00

Our family of 4 enjoyed our stay here. We wanted to travel into the city, and upperstate, and this was a great location to do that. Good neighborhood, easy to get around and get what you need,. Very comfortable home. Please note, there are ALOT of stairs to the boat house, but it's very peaceful and relaxing down there. Thank you for letting us stay ! 19 September 2017 - 23:27:00

We had a wonderful time. Best of both worlds with water and mountain views. Amazing. Very peaceful. We never wanted to leave the deck and enjoyed strolling along the water. Weather was great so we slept with Windows open, wonderful breeze with the water lapping the shore. Just awesome! Cute quaint home just as pictured. Close to Sleepy Hollow, Tarrytown and Hyde Park. Wonderful recommendation to eat in town at Union restaurant. It was really great! Highly recommend! Thanks for sharing your wonderful place and we will certainly come again. We didn't have time to enjoy the hot tub or fireplace and will go down the road next time you catch the Staten Island Ferry into the city and hike through Palisades Park. 29 September 2017 - 23:14:00

We will begin with the positive, the vies of the Hudson, from the upstairs bedrooms in particular, are wonderful. There were a few surprises however that we felt we should share with others considering a peaceful getaway. The home on a residential street with houses very close to one another. While the view of the hudson was lovely from the back deck, we did not really enjoy sitting out there due to the noise coming from the surrounding active families who own the homes in very close proximity. The other decks were close enough to hear quiet speaking voices no less boisterous children. There was also a fair amount of debris in the adjoining yards that detracted from the ambiance of the deck view. The other surprise was that we had not rented the entire house. We were told upon arrival that we should leave the outside front door unlocked to allow access to a "caretaker" that lived in the front portion of the house. This became an issue at 1AM both nights we were there when the other tenant came home and played loud music with the bass reverberating throughout the house resulting in waking all of us up. We took awhile to write this review as we have never given a mixed review before, but really love HomeAway and depend heavily on reviews of others. Our disappointment was in that we expected to be the only occupants of the home and we hoped the home was situated in a more tranquil setting. If these surprises wouldn't be a bother, the view of the Hudson from inside the house was in fact outstanding and the beds were clean and very comfortable. We just want people to get the full picture before spending precious vacation time in a place that does not fulfill their needs. 01 March 2014 - 19:20:51

What a lovely place to stay! We reserved the Riverhouse during a visit to see our son at West Point. Our blood pressures immediately decreased upon walking onto the spacious balcony that overlooks the river. Our hosts were terrific, the kitchen was the best equipped in all of our VRBO travels, the beds were comfortable, WiFi was great, the living room (tv area) was inviting, everything was fantastic. We will surely book again! 21 October 2017 - 15:31:00

Good location, close to grocery stores, restaurants and West Point. Enjoyed the views of the Hudson, the deck, and gas grill. Excellent communication from the owner. 30 October 2017 - 14:39:00

I love this house! This was my first VRBO experience and it will be hard for any future places to top it. I stayed for a week and it was amazing. I am a hiker and there are numerous excellent hikes in the area-- a great (round trip) 10 mile one begins just at the end of the road. Plus, easy access to Bear Mountain and Rockland Lake Parks. I do not believe I have seen more beautiful sunrises. The house is a unique place and very, very cozy. I recommend this home, and the very pleasant and respectful owners, without hesitation. 23 May 2016 - 13:46:58

Let me begin by saying that my sweetheart and I had an unforgettable stay because he proposed to me right in that cute little boathouse by the water! Of course I said yes! The location is like a well-kept secret street that you wouldn't even know was there if you didn't have an address to go to. There's almost zero car traffic and the eclectic grouping of river houses is pretty neat. The house itself is charming and comfortable, full of little homey touches that make you feel welcome. There is artwork to enjoy and shelves upon shelves of books to read. Rooms are bathed in beautiful natural light and there is a view of the water from both bedrooms and the downstairs kitchen/living area. The deck is huge and even though the houses are close together it is very private and you feel like you have your own little piece of paradise. The landscaping is so pretty with flowers blooming everywhere attracting a ton of butterflies, I even had a close encounter with a hummingbird! There are a lot of stairs on the property but that was not a problem for us. In fact, going down to the water is an experience in and of itself as you leave the garden and descend into the trees using the wooden stairs to get down to the Hudson. The stairs are sturdy and have handrails as well as string lights for nighttime ambience. We enjoyed the hot tub, which is huge and could probably fit 6-8 people. It is not on the upper deck, but has its own lower level surrounded by hibiscus and other garden beauties. This, too, has been very well planned out as it is very private even though the houses are close. We will definitely return to this little secret garden gem of a house! Thank you Jim and Joan for a wonderful stay! 12 August 2016 - 14:42:19

Joan and Jim were very responsive and Jim met us at the house at check in. He was very friendly and very helpful in telling us about the house and the area. As other reviews have stated the street is tight, crowded and not attractive, but the house is so nice. We were with another couple and found the house to be roomy and comfortable. The bedrooms are large, have closets and the windows look out over the river. The deck and outside are going down to the river are wonderful. The kitchen was adequate and the dining area had the "view". The only bad surprise was watching TV and feeling that the train behind the house would surely come in. It is really loud and disruptive and seemed to go on at all hours. The TV however is good, as is the internet. This was a great location for exploring Nyack, West Point and several beautiful State Parks and bridges. I would recommend this property. 20 October 2016 - 13:14:00
