Our group of 5 couples just spent 4 of the most wonderful days at Blackthorne. We have taken many weekend getaways together over the past 40 years of our friendship, and this ranks right up there at the top of the list as one of our best. First, we all had looked at the pictures and video of Blackthorne, but upon driving up the driveway we were awestruck with the beauty of the home. Robert was just leaving when we arrived and he could not have been more helpful and accommodating with our rental. Once we entered the home we realized that no pictures or videos could capture the magnificence of this home and we couldnt wait to explore this castle in the trees. Some of the most spectacular features were the fireplace, the spiral staircase, the Eagles Nest room, and most of all the outdoor decks.all beautiful, but the whole house is amazing. The setting in the trees couldnt have been more peaceful and beautiful. Our weekend was filled with many highlights with a Murder Mystery dinner one night and a crab feed another night with fresh crabs from Bodega Bay. By far, our favorite memory of the weekend was when a member of our group passed down 5 king-size handmade quilts, made by his mother, to the 5 ladies in our group. What a special and priceless gift to all, and we couldnt have imagined a better setting than the Blackthorne Inn. We unanimously decided to come back next year for our annual getaway and have already booked with Robert. If youre looking for a special place to gather family or friends for a weeks vacation or a weekend getaway there is no better or more special place than Blackthorne. a true castle in the trees. 24 November 2012 - 18:37:31

Fabulous! The artful woodworking in all the unique rooms, the large decks to hang out in, great kitchen for meal prep, and the hot tub for night star viewing. 17 October 2017 - 13:01:00

We hosted a couples retreat at the Blackthorne, and it was perfect for our needs. The bedroom to bathroom ratio is great, the house was clean, and ready for our arrival. It was so clean, in fact, that I wondered how much time goes into resetting the house between guests. We stayed at the house in the spring, and the guests (12 of us, total), knew at most 2 or 3 of the other guests. Lots of friends of friends. The house was big enough that there was no discomfort with that, allowing people to spread out and congregate at whatever levels they'd like. On the last night we stayed there, half the guests left, and so our children (4 & 6) joined us and they had a wonderful time at the house, too. It felt safe, and they got a kick out of the different rooms, the layout, and the banana slugs. 11 June 2013 - 04:13:53

We had the pleasure of staying here for the labor day weekend in 2013 and while the photos made the place look magical - it was even better! The common areas were great for socializing, and the rooms private enough to let one escape when it got late or you just needed a nap. The eagle's nest was absolutely stunning (though the occupants were very grateful for the blinds - it gets sun early!). 5 of the six rooms also accommodated babies (8m-4y) and while the house is not childproofed, we had no troubles at all. Our little toddlers were able to crawl, walk, and run about quite safely (with close adult supervision at all times of course!) and there was a nice box of blocks and infant-appropriate toys - a sweet little bonus! The stairs would likely be an obstacle to the elderly, frail or otherwise disabled - there are lots of 'em. We hope to come back. This place was really amazing 03 September 2013 - 16:07:43

My five siblings and spouses, 11 in all, recently returned from a reunion at the Blackthorne Inn. We had all seen the pictures and the video but this wonderful residence exceeded all our expectations. We enjoyed especially the top deck, soaking in the hot tub while birds flew and chattered in the trees. We enjoyed long catch-up visits in the beautifully appointed living room. We enjoyed our breakfasts on the deck in the crisp morning air. In fact, in general, the architecture of Blackthorne as it climbs up the hillside and the ready access to beautiful decks on all levels made us feel close to the trees, the animals and the natural surroundings. All furnishings and appointments were interesting and beautiful. The workmanship in many details was a pleasure to behold; i.e., the stone fireplace, the revolving door at the top of the circular stairs; the stained glass windows -- amazing! The kitchen where we prepared breakfasts and a dinner was stocked with everything one could ever need. Each bedroom space was lovely and unique and allowed all of us to find just the one that suited. I read the history of Blackthorne which was provided and it was thrilling to me as a NorCal resident to learn of all the historical bits and pieces that have been found and lovingly incorporated into the building. Blackthorne is so centrally located, we were able to enjoy Limantour Beach in the Pt. Reyes National Seashore. Other favorite easy-to-reach places we explored were Stinson Beach and Muir Woods. The beauty of this wonderful place truly provided an ambience of relaxation and pleasure that made our time together extra special. We were there just three nights and it wasn't enough. Everyone wanted to make this magical place a yearly event. 28 September 2013 - 20:38:48

Family and friends gathered together for a delightful week and an enchanting New Year's Celebration! This magical house is nestled among hundreds of trees, immaculately groomed gardens, and massive wood decks; each level leading to the next treasure. It has lovely guest rooms and beautiful features that took us days to fully discover. We enjoyed our days at Drakes Beach, lunches in Pt. Reyes Station and in SF, dinners around the hearty table followed by cozy fires at the hearth with games, movies, s'mores, and fun conversation. The pleasant Blackthorne caretaker kept the firewood well-stocked and the spa nicely heated. Blackthorne was the perfect setting for our happy gathering. This spectacular home is most memorable and we look forward to returning! 10 January 2014 - 16:38:39

My co-workers and I went here for a staff retreat in April of 2013, and it was truly dazzling. We work for a small non-profit with mentally ill people, so we really need to relax on our retreats, and this was prefect. The aesthetics of the home were straight out of a Tolkien elven village! The beds were very comfortable. The only thing I should say is that if you are very prone to motion sickness do not stay in the top room, the round one, because it sways ever so slightly. I stayed in that room, and just loved it, but some of my older co-workers were a little nervous about it, fyi-put the youngsters in that room. The kitchen was very well equipped, and we have some very fine chefs, in fact several of my co-workers have done professional cooking in the past, and were impressed with the kitchen. The owner was very kind, and easy to deal with. I highly recommend this lovely place!!! 25 February 2014 - 07:46:56

The Blackthorne Inn is truly paradise. This architectural wonder is the perfect place to gather with family. We loved the huge fireplace under the equally huge sky light nestled under a canopy of towering trees; the hot tub, the all glass lookout "nest" room, the sun room and deck. Hosted by the gracious Robert and well tended by the grounds crew, the Blackthorne makes you feel like youre perched in a treehouse in the forest, but youre only a short walk down the hill from a first class gourmet food store, and perhaps two miles from the fabulous Point Reyes Station with several great restaurants and terrific boutique art galleries and clothing stores. We hesitate to write more to help insure well be able to secure a reservation for ourselves when we want to come back in the future. Plan ahead! The Blackthorne Inn is one of the very most desirable lodgings in this very popular vacation area. 03 March 2014 - 05:41:19

I do not even know where to begin with how perfect our 4 night stay for my 50th Birthday Celebration was made because of the magical surroundings of the Blackthorne. I originally wanted to book a unique stay in a Lighthouse for my party weekend and just happened upon the Blackthorne in my internet research. I booked the Blackthorne after seeing the website and listing on the rental site. I sent the owner Robert an email then my husband called and gave a deposit about 10 months in advance because we know Memorial day weekend would be a big one for week-end getaways, weddings and vacationers too! Have to say I always think the sites with photos and professional videos have a way of exaggerating the beauty of a place, but not in the case of Blackthorn. It is truly beautiful. At the end of the street is a market called Perrys with a fabulous Deli and a short drive to Pont Reyes Station where there are several very good restaurants, like the Station House, Stellina and the Cowgirl Creamery. We didnt get into the Bovine Bakery, but based upon the length of the line, I would say it must be pretty good too. A few miles away is the Bear Valley Visitors Center where you can obtain a permit for a beach bonfire, which we did at Limantour Beach. Drakes Bay Oysters is about 10 miles away and Hog Island Oysters is about the same in the other direction. There are so many things to do in the area, or you could do nothing but enjoy he tranquility that surrounds this magical home. The personality the home has in unmeasurable. . The price is remarkable considering the fact that I have spent the same for mediocre 2-3 bedroom homes in the non-private not so tranquil Dillons Beach and Bodega Bay areas. The 4 floors of fabulousness with tranquility and so much outdoor living space is fabulous. The home was also stocked with so many dishes and spices, we brought out own napkins, saran wrap, foil, garbage bags, shampoo and extra t.p., but one would not need to as they even had those there. The little touches like super lux soft throws on the sofas and books and movie were very appreciated. Basically this is home is a work of art with some architectural fabulousness everywhere you look. It is lovely to wake to birds singing and the fresh due and amazing to sit on any one of the many expansive porches during the sunny day hours and in the welcoming Jacuzzi in the evening. Just Heavenly! 28 May 2014 - 23:09:28

"We just got back from a long awaited return to the Blackthorne Inn. As many have said before, this place is total magic. My husband and I had stayed in this property when it was a B&B for our first two wedding anniversaries almost 15 years ago. We returned this past weekend with friends in tow. The Blackthorne is SO much better than we remembered due to the amazing improvements of the new(ish) owners. They have lavished much love on this special place -- beds are amazing, kitchen is upgraded, living room furniture is both hip AND incredibly conducive to a fantastic night in front of the fire. Every room has its own features and offer privacy when needed. Our kids LOVED exploring all the nooks and crannies and games and books and music. And we loved the late night hot tub under the stars and trees -- joined by birds and deer. You can't get a better west Marin experience. Wow! Folks with disabilities or trouble with stairs might want to check in with Robert about the windy stairs before they book. And Robert is super easy to deal with -- very responsive. Can not recommend highly enough!" 27 May 2015 - 21:50:25

Our family found this beautiful home to be the perfect place to reconnect with each other. We enjoyed cooking our meals and gathering around the big dining table together. We also had fun exploring the nearby beaches, hiking trails, and Point Reyes Station. Robert was great at communicating with us; we appreciate this lovely retreat he has provided. 11 July 2015 - 20:36:34

The Blackthorne Inn was just the perfect setting for my long birthday weekend this past November! We loved the house so much we spent most of our time here. Hanging out and enjoying the many decks, hot tub, beautiful scenery, majestic redwoods, wildlife, peace and quiet. There is so much more to explore within minutes; beaches, shopping, kayaking, hiking trails. It's a quick car/bike ride to downtown Pt Reyes, you have to go to the Cowgirl Creamery, free samples, yum! Everyone enjoyed the fireplace in the mornings and evenings with plenty of firewood, supplied and stacked right next to the huge rock fireplace. One night we had Personal Chef Claudio cook dinner for us which was a big surprise for my guests. We ate, drank and danced the night away...Off to bed for a good nights sleep in the cozy, comfortable beds, nicely decorated bedrooms, we all had our own bathroom how nice is that? Well, it was so nice we booked it again! Robert the owner is great to work with, he let us check in early so we could even enjoy more time at this beautiful clean and very well maintained home, much appreciated. Until next time...All the best! 07 January 2016 - 21:22:36

I was looking for a place near San Francisco to take my team of 6 business intelligence developers for some yearend reflection and new year goal setting. This is the first year we've decided to meet away from our usual business offices and it was a bit of an adventure for us. We had a mixed group and needed a place that could accommodate bathrooms, privacy, gathering space, and sometimes solitude (I think I mentioned we were developers) to each member. The Blackthorne was one of a few locations that had 5+ bathrooms in the San Francisco area and the photos definitely made it look adventurous. Its many levels and ease of access between outside and indoors gave us the perfect venue to gather as a group and still allow small spaces to recharge. The structure itself is multi-tiered and eclectic which was a bit of a shock at first. It is well constructed and its charm quickly captures you. The large dinner table was perfect for work sessions and the large comfy chairs in the living area were perfect for serious brain-storming or just gabbing. The surrounding area and town were really great. I cant say enough good things about the food and staff at The Station House Caf which we ended up eating all our lunches and dinners at for the three days we stayed. We were less than 20 miles away from beautiful sand beaches and crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean and even stopped in to the Cowgirl Creamery. I would strongly encourage a stay at the Blackthorne, and I know I will be coming back with my family. The technical nature of our business required us to have stronger connections to the internet, but the Wi-Fi provided worked well for smaller devices. 03 March 2016 - 19:49:23

The Blackthorn is truly a beautiful home and a tranquil hideaway destination. We all loved and enjoyed this place. Each of the room has its very own distinct character.. Especially the octagonal room on the top floor, with six sides completely wrapped around by windows. My daughter, the birthday girl, felt as if she was in a tree top house nestled in the forest. One of the days, she chose to stay in the room whole day, experienced the light changed from dawn to dusk which provided different feel of the room at different time of the day. It was truly an amazing experience, a specially memorable day for her. The owner, Robert, is very responsive and accommodating. 29 March 2016 - 19:35:07

Staying at the Blackthorne Inn is a little like staying in the Winchester Mystery House. You never know what you'll discover when you open another door, climb another flight of stairs, or survey your arboreal surroundings from atop the octagonal tower. The home was built in the 70s and still retains that woodsy, post-hippie vibe. The furniture is comfortably eclectic, the kitchen well stocked and easy to cook in. The location is great for all sorts of day trips - Point Reyes Lighthouse, national seashore hikes, Tule Elk preserve, Cheese Trail, and those amazing oyster farms. West Marin is a hidden treasure. 08 November 2017 - 03:28:00

This place was more than we could have ever asked for. We rarely left the house because the house was truly all we needed. Nestled in the woods with great views, and comfortable accommodations for our group. My favorite room was the tower room with the deck leading to the hot tub. With unlimited firewood, we were able to have cozy nights in the living room by the fireplace which was so special and amazing. Not to mention a beautiful supply of cozy, furry blankets for the guests! Every moment spent at the Blackthorne was so special and a beautiful time for our group and we will surely be back. So grateful to have been able to use this space! 19 December 2017 - 22:22:00

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Blackthorne. It was perfect for our family Christmas weekend. The adult kids, teens and preteens loved it. Very unique design, spacious, comfortable and well appointed in a peaceful forest like setting. We will definitely be back. 22 December 2017 - 06:08:00
